According to what I've read various places, the trinket increases speed by 10%. It doesn't add 10% to your current speed.

So, while your Swift Flight Form flies at a regular speed of 380% (it's +280%), with the trinket's increase of 10%, you'll end up with (380% * 1.10 = 380+38) 418% flight speed.
Now -that's- fast.

I just got the charm and wanted to use it when I'm flying and to re-equip my previous trinket when I shift back to caster form. Here is the scrip for ItemRack i came up with:

Is it possible to equip a +run speed or +movement speed increase item to stack with this or your flight form abilities? For example if I was to enchant my boots with this: https://www.cuckhead.com/wotlk/item=28280 which increases movement speed, will this also increase flight from since it does not directly state, run or swim?

For those who would rather use a macro instead of ItemRack, here's one I use.

/equip {your normal trinket}
/equip Charm of Swift Flight
/cast Swift Flight Form

This will equip the charm if you go into Swift Flight Form and equip your regular trinket if you use it to switch out. You can replace the final one with "/cast Flight Form" if you wish.

Reducing the mana cost of flight form... Please tell me this is a placeholder - in what scenario can this POSSIBLY be of any value? You can't switch to flight form if you're in combat, so it's not like it's a great benefit to be able to switch when out of combat and save the pittance of mana that it will take all of 5 seconds to regen.

Also, with Northrend flying mounts at 310% speed, flight form should be able to attain an increase to match. I don't think it should be done necessarily with this charm, as it would give too much of a benefit to druids until others have 'caught up' by obtaining a Northrend mount (ok, moot poing in Northrend till flying is available at 77 (?), but still valid for time spent in Outlands).

Maybe this is done through some WotLK questline for a new charm, maybe not, but it needs to be made available or one of the core differentiators of druids will have effectively been nerfed out of the game.

I'm in the beta and all flying mounts are still at 280% even after buying the "Cold Weather Flying". You probably read this info on wowwiki but it states

With World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, new mounts will be able to carry multiple players on their backs at 80. These mounts will also be as fast as the Swift/Merciless Nether Drakes. Furthermore, flying on mounts in Northrend will be possible from level 77 onwards, after players hit level 77 learn Cold Weather Flying by paying 1000 gold to a "Cold Weather Flying Trainer".

As you can see the 310% only applies to passenger mounts as it stated now.

Every little bit helps when you are running away from a player that tries to kill you and manage to pop into Flight Form. Your mana pool could allready be close to 0 from all the hots you had to cast and shapeshfting to get away.

This is almost a slap in the face.
After spending 5k to get epic flying and then completing a chain of quests they give us this trinket with NO USE...
The mana reduction is SO minimal that I can regenerate that in less than 2 seconds.

Very unhappy with this change...this trinket is vendor trash now. Why blizz do we do this gigantic questline (albeit fun) to get a trinket that has absolutely no use whatsoever. I'm not sure where there philosophy is on this.

The trinket is not worth to do the chain anymore but for those that already have it can still give the benifit of the mana decrease, the way i found usefull is by using it together with Outfitter, it will auto-equip as soon as you swift that form, well 0.1 sec earlier even so the effect works.

This will take one spot in your bags still, i found it very benificial while grinding and you need to mount and dismount all the time, definatly not better then the speed increase it had before, but still usefull in some way, me thinks

What I particularly dislike about this is that it appears to decrease the mana cost by a set amount that will never scale. Meanwhile, both flight forms will always cost 13% of maximum mana. Thus its already limited usefulness actually decreases the more mana you have. Even for Feral druids with little mana, I doubt -115 will make a noticeable difference. At L70 my feral druid has 4880 mana, which would mean it costs 519 with the trinket and 634 without.

Note: I don't have the trinket myself, so I'm relying on the tooltip info and that Wowhead lists its effect as "Apply Aura: Add Flat Modifier (14) Value: -115"
If someone who does have it can test if this is true, I'd appreciate it.

Sure it sucks that this no longer does anything useful, but come on, we essentially get INSTANT CAST FLYING MOUNTS. Beyond that, you can loot, grab sparkling quest items, and pick herbs in flight form. Flight form is ridiculously better than regular epic flyers, and you all know it. Personally, I don't mind losing this trinket much, so long as I get to keep all the other perks of flight form.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that you also get Idol of the Raven Goddess from the end of the quest chain, so I still think it's worth doing if you have very little choice in idols at the time. Besides, it's a fun chain--regardless of reward.

Blizzard has a tendency to change something, then go and change it again. I'm holding onto my Charm of Swift Flight and my idol just in case they decide to do something else with it.

This is a great thing to have with a mod such as ItemRack to automatically equip/deequip as you change forms. Defently worth hanging on to if you manage to work up the 5000G

It's near the last of the druids Epic flight for quest. If you aren't a druid you can't get it.... the effect wouldn't benefit you anyhow. Get a riding crop and call it a day.

it is 380% speed, because you are going the additional 100% normal speed, plus and INCREASED 280%. Normal flight is 160%. The trinket doesn't add 10% of your current speed though, just an additional 10%.

So either 170% or 390%

Ha. I think alot of you are having trouble understanding what kinda math is being used here. Normal form , like just runnnig around = 100% speed according to how he was calculating . Kinda of a silly way to do you math . So if you get 280% speed , he just added in the 100% of normal run speed ontop of 280% swift flight . So yes , technically you could way 419% speed , actually the correct number would be 418% . Because it isn't 10% speed increase , it's a 10% speed increase to the already fast swift flight speed . If you do the math and only get 290% you should def pick up one of these "clators" and learn to use it. So ontop of notmal run speed which is 100% , this trinket in flight form grants you an additional 308% movement speed . Anyway you look at it you are moving faster than everyone else on their normal epic flying mounts , and it's insta cast , IMO effin' groovy .

I got out my "clator" and decided to do this nice little story problem. "Normal" running speed with no movement enhancements or debuffs is 100%. A "280% increase" for swift flight form is adding 280% to this 100% speed (100% + 280%*100% = 380%), making swift flying speed (with no trinket) 380%.

This trinket increases your flight speed (which is 380%) by 10%. That means the trinket gives you an "increase" of 380%*10% = 38%. (This is like 380% * 0.10 = 38%.)

So 380% + 38% = 418%.

418% is the speed at which you fly in Swift Flight Form with the Charm of Swift Flight trinket equipped, while normal running speed is considered to be 100%. The bottom line is you're flying 4.18 times faster than you can run.

You don't need to take my word for it. You can also check out http://www.wowwiki.com/Mounts for a similar bit of math.

Also, since you fly along the ground at a 100% increased speed in swift flight form, by analogous math you will travel along the ground at 220% speed with this trinket equipped. This is the same speed as an epic land mount with the Riding Crop trinket. If only we could use this form in the Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, we could throw away that land mount and Riding Crop and clear out two bag spaces. . .

The shear lack of any basic math skills on this page terrifies me.

280% of 100 is 280. Epic flight (without any enchants or trinkets) makes you go 280% faster than normal run speed. For all of those saying it makes you go 380%, 380% relative to what? Standing still? 380% of 0 (which is the speed you're going at when you're not moving) is 0.

Let's quantify this in some metric way

100% is the normal running speed. Let's say 100 points of speed.

So we have
Running :100pts speed

Let's assume a blue mount that says that increases the speed by 60%.
That's 100pts + 100pts x 60% = 160pts speed (it is also 160% of the normal speed)

Now an epic mount that gives +100%

100pts + 100pts x 100% = 200pts speed (200% of normal speed)

Ashes of Al'ar (phoenix) give you 310%

That's 100pts + 100pts x 310% = 410pts (or 410% of normal speed)

Dont know how they stack with trinkets etc, but I need to farm some g to get the damn swift flight form :D

First of all. Normal running speed is the base off of which this is calculated. It's referred to as 0% increase when calculating this because it is prior to the increase you are calculating given by a mount.

Calling running a 100% speed increase is not correct. ANY movement compared to standing still is an increase. And you can't calculate that unless you take into account how long you would stand still... which is &*!@#$ed.

So, when you calculate the first mount you ever get at lvl 40, you can now move 60% faster than you could run. Then with your lvl 60 Epic ground mount you can now move 100% faster than you can run.

Next, regular flying mount; 60% speed again, not 160%, It only moves as fast as your first lvl 40 mount. Then Epic flying mount(with the exception of the phoenix); You can move 280% faster than you can run. Very simple, so quit complicating things with your bogus figures.

Lvl 40 ground mount = 60% movement speed increase.
Lvl 60 Epic ground mount = 100% movement speed increase.
Lvl 70(or 68 in the case of the druids flight form) = 60% movement speed increase.
Lvl 70 Epic Flying mount = 280% movement speed increase.

Riding crops, and the charm of swith flight(only in a druids case) are both only a 10% movement speed increase. So, in any case, 290%(faster than running) movement speed is the fastest you can achieve. Enchants DO NOT stack on top of these; Not mithril spurs, and not the glove enchants.

You cannot move more than 290%(faster than you can run) unless you have the Phoenix mount.

Naturalist's post is correct only when he states the actual increases given by different mounts. Normal movement speed is 100% because if you were going 280% faster than 0 movement speed, it'd still be 0 (0 x 2.8 = 0). Furthermore, all mount speed increases are multiplicative. You don't add these speeds like 100 + 280 + 10 = 390. It's normal speed + (normal speed x some percentage).

Running is 100% of your normal speed, not a "100% speed increase."

Let me help:

First of all, you can use a popular addon called Monkeyspeed to see your actual in-game speed. I will start by saying that using an epic flying mount with a riding crop, Monkeyspeed will report your speed as 418%.

Now let's back up and take a look at the basics of Monkeyspeed.

When you are standing still, your speed is shown as 0%.

When you start moving forward (running) your speed is shown as 100% (or 108% if you have boar's speed etc.).

The reason 100% is used as base run speed is because if you used 0% as the base, then how fast would you be moving when you are standing still compared to running? It would be something negative...Intuitively this sounds like moving backwards but actually moving backwards has a positive movement SPEED as well. The idea is that 100% is your max unassisted movement speed, not your speed increase. Following this logic you can see why moving backwards would be a speed of 64% (i.e. 64% of normal 100% run speed) and not some negative number.

Now we can use some math here to determine your speed with different mounts and trinkets.

Running = 100% or 1.0
Epic Mount = 100% + (100% x 100%) = 200% or 1.0 + (1.0 x 1.0) = 2.0
Epic Mount with Riding Crop = (100% + (100% x 100%)) x 110% = 220% OR (1.0 + (1.0 x 1.0)) x 1.1 = 2.2

Now what exactly does 220% speed mean? This is basic math. 220% of 100% = 220%. You can state this as "you are moving 220% faster than normal movement speed" (normal movement speed = run speed). Percentages can get complicated so you might want to convert 220% to 2.2 and say you are moving 2.2x faster than normal movement speed (1.0 x 2.2 = 2.2).

Epic Flying Mount = 100% + (100% x 280%) = 380% or 1.0 + (1.0 x 2.8) = 3.8
Epic Flying Mount with Riding Crop = (100% + (100% x 280%)) x 110% = 418% OR (1.0 + (1.0 x 2.8)) x 1.1 = 4.18

Again this means you are moving 4.18x faster than normal movement speed or a 418% increase.
