This was a pretty good upgrade over the Earthpeace Breastplate https://www.cuckhead.com/wotlk/item=23527 I lost a few points of healing, but got a bit more mana and HP all in all I like it.

Gameplay is going to be what really dictates whether this is better for you than Earthpeace Breastplate.

If you are looking for instance/raid healing, and you aren't pulling aggro a lot, then losing the STA isn't a big deal.

From a mana perspective, it breaks down on length of fights. If you are just questing, or doing short fights, the higher MP/5 won't come into play, and the VST is probably a better choice.

For longer fights, the EB is going to provide greater benefit, even with the INT on VST.

1 INT = 15mana, so VST adds 315 mana to your pool off the bat. Since highest shammy heals are 600+, that's not quite one extra spell off the top.

EB: 16MP/5 = 192x
VST: 8MP/5 + 21INT = 96x + 315

Fights lasting 3 min:
EB: gives back 576 mana
VST: gives back 603 mana

Fights lasting 4 min:
EB: gives back 768 mana
VST: gives back 669 mana

Fights lasting 5 min:
EB: gives back 960 mana
VST: gives back 795 mana

So, if you are with a bunch of pros who can hold aggro and in high instances where boss fights last a while, EB has a mana regen edge and the lack of stats won't be too big a burden.

The other factor to consider in choosing is that VST is going to require a group for most folks, and EB is a blacksmithing item (4x Hard Adamantite bars, 6x Primal Life, 4x Primal Earth). If you are a lone wolf, EB is WAY easier to get. If you have a guild, or friends that will help you, VST won't be too terribly hard to get.

I respectfully disagree with the poster above - I contend the Harness of the Deep Currents is preferable to both (though not by much, admittedly).

Stamina is far too under-represented in healing gear and once you start getting into raiding, you realise you need a ton of it to survive those stray shots you will get from time from time. Any item with no stamina must have huge other benefits to justify a slot.

The Earthpeace chest does have excellent healing stats and in extremely long boss fights - 7+ mins - it will have the edge over the previous two mentioned. But once the rest of your group knows the bosses and has some gear, fights of that length will be an extreme rarity. Meanwhile, you'll still be waiting for the Earthblood Chestguard to drop and wishing that you'd kept the VST or HotDC because the stats they give are now preferable to the small bonus to longevity granted by the Earthpeace.

So in short: save your mats, do the quest to get the VST, then grind for the Harness. The Harness of the Deep Currents is the best all-round item of the three, as by the time you really need a better healing chest for raiding, one will have dropped for you.

I agree that Harness of the Deep Currents is a better item, but if you aren't going into Kara, you aren't going to be seeing that. :)

For non-endgame content for the resto shammy, either of these will really be a nice boost to your healing.

Since The Patch where mana Sheild has been changed to MP5 increse i would say this is better sine the Earthpeace Breastplate Has no stats and ok 8 MP5 is alot but still theres no point in having MP5 if you ahvn't got the mana pool to support it
