Of course, no one really knows where (or under what condition) these epic gems will drop yet, so this one may still be a good option for most people, especially considering the drop in cost.

The upcoming 2.2 patch introduces an epic +24 AP gem, "Crimson Sun".

It is cut by JC (recipe purchased from the Consortium, Revered rep required), however it is Unique-Equipped and Bind On Pickup.

So basically a jewelcrafter may have one +24 AP gem equipped, as a reward for mastering the profession.

I just bought 3 of these and i went to place the 2 others I got in another item and it said I reached my maximum limit of this gem. Is that an error or did i just waste 16k honor on something that I can't use?

The name Bold is wrong for the stats on this, It should be Bright.

Bold is STR, and Bright is AP.

The error is in game, so it's not wowheads fault.

Can this be put in a BoE item without makign it Soulbound? For example buy the gem on my main, socket it on a BoE item and sent it back to my alt?

Since 3.0.1 they have been non binding and no longer are unique-equip. This makes it so PVP players can get all their sockets from PVP and are able to make money off excess honor by selling top quality gems :).

As nice as this is, nearly 30k for a gem is pushing it... especially since you can get 16 AP gems crafted. When is 4 AP ever worth 30k honor and marks? heh

I have an open ticket with Wow about this item (April 5, 2008). This ruby shows for me that it's a unique item... and I thought that meant that you could put just one bold ornate ruby on ONE armor item...

Turns out that "unique" means you can only equip one ruby on your entire set of gear currently worn... correct?

Was this a 2.4 Wow mod? I see in this Allakhazam website that the Bold Ornate Ruby does NOT list as a unique item.

this item may sure look good but be careful where you socket this because if you socket on an item that you will replace eventually your going to have to go through eye of storm again as well as have to earn that honor all back again. Personally I am going to wait until I have several pieces of my lvl 70 pvp gear before going and getting one of these, and only on a weapon off-hand or shield. I've found myself already regretting having used the Halaa yellow resilience socket gem on a piece of armor that is now obsolete to the gear i use now, so be careful where you equip this.

Preferable places to socket:
Off Hands
Main Hands
2 Hands
Rings
Shields

These places are preferable because these are areas where you tend not to replace too often with newer improved gear.

I have a Blackout Truncheon which actually has two sockets and is a nice off hand mace with a good proc. I easily see myself replacing it though so no need to kill that many hours working for a +20AP gem. A 20AP gem would be bought on a top two piece of gear in game and you have no other upgrades to get with your honor. Otherwise farm for 20min for 45g and buy the +16AP gem.
PS- don't call other's nubs unless you have research to back it. Although he may have a mirror above his computer so in that case he would be correct.

Someone got better gear then what the PvP gear have to offer. So they use their honor on this. I will do that myself :) this baby is awesome

just thought I would say, its also "Unique-Equipped" I dunno if thott hasn't implemented that or what, so you can only have ONE on your person, in other words, do be REALLY careful where you put this, not only for the sake of replacing the gear, but for the fact that if you want to socket up that bracers that are the best in game, so you're gunna get the best gem in game, you may not be able to because this is in your shoulders. just an FYI

I have a question. I am making a Vengeance Wrap to sell, and I want to socket it with one of the epic PvP gems before I sell it. If I socket this into a BoE item, will it bind to me?

No need to get shirty.
To make it clear, you can buy lots of them and slot each to a different item.

BUT...

You can then only equip one of those items at any one time.
I trust that is clear, but feel free to continue posting and ignore the bullies.

is it 1 per person or 1 equipped? can I have 2 helms socketed with this? Currently I have this on my storm helm, but I am about to get a PvP helm. Just wondering if "unique equipped" means I can only have this equipped on the item I am currently wearing.

Unique Equipped means:
1) You can wear one of the same Unique at a time.
2) You can wear many different Uniques at same time so long as they are different names.
3) You can own many of the same Uniques as long as they are socketed in equipment that you won't be wearing at the same time (ie: two helms), or laying in your bags of course.

It all boils down to #1.

Its not Unique anymore? if so im going to buy Vengful gladiator's chestguard and gem it with 2 +20Ap and 1 +10HR or +8HR gem, will work out to spank just about all pve chests till BT/Hyjal
