I can confirm that the 'required level' on this oils is based on the ilevel of the weapon u're putting the temporary item buff on, and not on the required level to use the item. There is no way to tell the ilvl of an item in game without using an addon.

Does this enchantment works with melee wepons?

I have fiery enchantment on my sword and aplying this oil
to it I have seen that the efect hapens more often.
Is it my imagination or is it good with melee wepons too?

Perhaps, a level 70 friend could apply this to your weapon if you're a 39 twink? If so I'd take the expensive stuff!

At the release of Lich King, temporary weapon enhancements (oils & stones) worked on items all the way to those requiring level 80 (I applied it to Totemic Purification Rod with no problems), this was changed by Blizzard within weeks of release. After much experimenting I found that (at version 3.0.9) the current cut off for using these is any weapon with item value of 162 (as rated in the Armory). Any weapon at or above 166 will alert the user that the attempt failed but will not consume the object. I was able to apply oil to a Levitating Dagger (BOE green) which requires level 75 to use.

The oil sells for around 1g on my server. People just use it to level their skill on the cheap. You can probably make a profit on the brilliant oil but you are SOL trying to make money selling this.

This does not stack with other temporary buffs such as totems or poisons, but does stack with enchants (+dmg etc). The person holding the flask can also apply it to other people's weapons thru the trade screen, works the same as getting it enchanted, just drop weapon into no-trade slot and they can apply the oil, saving you from trading the flask back and forth to get everyone buffed.

If you have a shaman in group and you apply these oils you will not be able to recieve the totem buffs; not sure what happens to a shammy tho, but I think their casting a totem overrides the oil and they just lose the oil buff in favour of the totem.

When it says that it requires Level 40, in my understanding it means that to apply the oil to a weapon you need to be level 40, and the weapon can be the weapon you start the game with.

Also, a level 19 could (I think) have a level 40 or above friend buff the weapon through a trade window when they are between matches although should a match go more than 30 minutes your buff will expire and you won't be able to re-buff before the end of the battle.

Also, with totems they do stack with weapon buffs, although not the Shaman's enchants that they can put on their own weapons.

i talked to a GM today and he said that your weapon also has to be level 40 and + to apply the Wizard oil.
They should really put the "only usable on items level 40 or more" as they did with armor kits...really

this thing is EPIC for leveling enchanting.. befor this the cheapest thing to make for me was 7 agi to gloves wich cost 3 lesser eternals and some illusion dust that adds to about 20g on my server.. making this oil only runs me about 9g and i think im going to use it to get me to 300 enchanting

it even persists after death :) and stacks with permanent enchant , so ye 30+24 =54 >>> +30 alone , think before posting :p

if u could enchant a ranged weapon with this... for a hunter anyways, aimed shot would be pretty helpful in a situation like that.

I guess it stacks with normal enchants. There wouldn't really be a point in using this if it didn't...

Seems like the level req doesn't mean your character's level only, but also the item level. Couldn't put this on a Hypnotic Blade which is item level 39.

The effect doesn't remain while zoning :(
So if you join WSG, apply OIL and then go to AV, the effect is gone. Thats why I mostly use them for AV only since its the only BG which last more than 20 min.

Its alot easier to make then the +30 spell dmg enchant, but it only lasts 30 minutes....

i dont know if it'll be worth it to make these...
