The Taunka and The Frostborn, are basicly the horde and alliance faction counter parts. The horde gets taunkas, The alliance gets frost dwarves. This was the 4th faction for the alliance in northrend.

One of the major Dwarven clans, the other two being Ironforge Dwarves (from where the Dark Iron dwarves came), and Iron Dwarves - another clan native to Northrend.

The sons of Hodir is a neutral faction, much like the Kal'uak. This is the alliance counterpart to the Taunka (Much like the Mag'har and the Kuraneii)

Hmm though It doesn't seem right. Theres Taunka in Grizzly Hills,Dragonblight,Borean Tundra and Storm Peaks.

However The Frostborn seem to only be stationed in Storm Peaks. Just seems like it'd be hard for Alliance Players to grind rep with these guys. Or maybe Blizz will add more hubs.

No the horde and alliance each have four. They form the Alliance Vanguard and the Horde Expedition.

I hope this helped clear up the confusion. The Horde's four factions were finshed before the Alliance's. The Frostborn was the last faction that was missing on the Alliance.

The only quest which gives rep at the moment is Pushed Too Far for 250/day so it would take you 156 days to get from friendly to exalted. Happy grinding.

the next major content patch will add the raid ulduar, so i can definitely see more frostborn related content added, so i plan on raising my frostborn rep. Might as well get a head start!

maybe it will be something like ashtongue deathsworn, with the rep vendor inside the raid

You can still obtain 'spillover' rep for these guys by grinding dungeons without a tabard.

(Generally +2 per non elite, +5/10/25/30 per elite, +250 per boss to Alliance Vanguard (i.e. not Valiance Expedition))

Nevermind, while you gain reputation with Alliance Vanguard, you do not gain rep with it's subfactions.

Hopefully the Ulduar patch will bring some more quests for these guys, and some rep items.

I remember back in the day before Netherwing was a proper faction, so there is hope yet!

there has to be a lot more to the frostborn than there is atm. I've noticed a currently unused (possibly future raid instance) portal in Ulduar adjacent to HoL and HoS, which can only mean one thing. frostborn rep, frostborn mount, and other goodies. There is a quest where u can ride an eagle as a vehicle to kill protodrakes, it looks amazing!

They can be set to "At War" (unlike every other Valiance Faction), however, none of the Frostborn-aligned NPCs are attackable. Probably just an oversight on Blizzard's part.

To get this faction on Exalted will take much more time than in a case of Explorers' League. The Frostborn has less quests than Explorers' League. You will be happy if you complete all quests and be Friendly with them. After this, your only way how to increase reputation with them is Pushed Too Far. This is very boring daily quest. You have to kill 16 Stormpeak Wyrms, while your Eagle is much slower than most of them. Assuming that you are Friendly with them, it will take you through this way about 160 days. Let's hope that Blizzard will add another daily quests or enlist them into the Championing system.

The Sunreaver's faction for Horde is also inactive and provides no quests. I'm guessing that content for these factions will be implemented in the same patch.

I suspect that the Sunreaver's and Silver Covenant will be the faction that give rep and quests relating to Icecrown, when it's opened up.

Taunka and Frostborn both have quests that relate to fighting Loken and the Iron Dwarves, so I'm going to assume more content will unlock with them once Ulduar is opened.

Although, the Taunka have a lot more quests at earlier levels, with quest hubs in Borean and Howling Fjord.

Not as many quests in Storm Peaks however.

I just worked the Frostborn up to Honored with no additional content thus far. It's part of my daily route for gold farming so I will probably continue to do it so long as I need the gold.

I believe the factions such as explorer's league and the frostborn will be used when blizzard introduces patches that involves Uldar and Arthas. More content and quests with these two factions (and the counterparts of horde) will be added.

im guessing more quests and dailies will be opened when ice crown opens aswell since the npc in place of the "king" atm says he has unfinished buissness in icecrown / with arthas

I made it to Exalted on April 11, 2009 – roughly five months after Wrath of the Lich King debuted – and checked out the NPCs in Frosthold. They have no new emotes, nor are there additional items to buy. This came as no surprise since none of the Frostborn NPCs actually have the Frostborn as their faction, but I still wanted to check.

By the way, even though I only missed about a week of dailies since the expansion's release and my character is human, it still took that long to finish. It's much easier to gain reputation now, but back then there was just the one quest. I got really sick of those wyrms after awhile.(##RESPBREAK##)2056##DELIM##adashiel##DELIM##

There are three races of "flesh" dwarf: Bronzebeard/Ironforge, Wildhammer, and Dark Iron.

Within Bronzebeard, many other clans, such as the Stormpike, exist.
Within Wildhammer, all dwarves are considered a member of the Wildhammer Clan.
Within Dark Iron, all dwarves serve Ragnaros unquestioningly. Surnames such as Doomforge and Anvilrage based on their servitude to the Firelord.

Recently, Stone, Iron, and Frost Dwarves have been found.

Stone Dwarves (Earthen) can be found in the Storm Peaks and Uldaman. They directly serve the Titans.
Iron Dwarves can be found in the Storm Peaks and Ulduar. They are the product of Mechagnome genesis on the subterranean being matrix. They serve Yogg-Saron. They are named based on which rune they inscribe on their body, such as Dark Rune, Iron Rune, Steel Rune, and others.
Frost Dwarves are exiled Earthen who partially succumbed to the Curse of Flesh. Instead of turning into flesh, their stone froze. They worship the Titans, but are not in direct communication with them.

You can indeed get exalted with these, the first best thing to do is doing all their 15 quests and then star doing the daily ''Pushed Too Far.'' will award 250 rep and each 1k rep takes 4 days, so just from 0 revered to 0 exalted takes 4x21 days, 84, your patience will really be tested here, the faction, and the possibelity to rais the factions rep is made lore wise, just as SWC (steamwheedlecartel) and shen'dralar is, but its now made as a recuire ment for the FoS, The inane, this might be taken in use later on, and getting the whole way to 999 exalted is possible, a friend of mine achieved both explorers league and the frostborn to exalted. (explorers league is same drill but the faction has more quests so you will first have to do the daily around honored)

I don't know what you mean by that. He said that the Iron Dwarves were a product of Mechagnomes.

The Wildhammer do NOT consider all dwarves wildhammer, infact they werent even very friendly with other clans until recently.

You misread his statement. He means that all dwarves within the Wildhammer clan are part of the Wildhammer clan only. Contrast to how the Bronzebeard/Ironforge dwarves are a part of different clans.

I think it should be noted that you can "buy" your way to friendly with the ulduar marks (the same that you turn in to sons of hodir), so you can go get to friendly on those, then start the quests and not have to do the daily for 164 days, but a good few less than that.
for exalted anyway.

I think you're wrong, but if not, please tell us how?

There's a quest, Ancient Relics, which provides Explorer rep, but it can only be done once.

There's also the Horde version of the same quest, and the repeatable Sons of Hodir quest.

Where else can you turn in Relic of Ulduar?

Please note. The Exiles of Ulduar talk about the earthen from there found at bouldercrag's refugee. The Frostborn are something TOTALLY different.

The mechagnomes never created the Iron Dwarves, its unknown where they originate from as the Iron Dwarves are going out of their way to destroy the history and secrets of the titans.

The Frostborn's origins are unknown, they have used the name Frost Dwarves before as well, while they do have the earthen patterns on their bodies they seem to be more evolved, much like the dwarves currently present in WoW.

"Stone Dwarves" do not exist as they are a special type of earthen found in northrend only at the moment. Earthen were present in WoW long before WotLK (Uldaman anyone?). They are simply special forms of earthen, speculation on them is that they are the earthen the Iron Dwarves originated from due to similar appearance also because during beta they had runes on their bodys as well before they were removed.

Now allow me to put what Faction/Races of dwarves there are:

Mountain Dwarves: Main dwarves of the Warcraft universe.
The Bronzebeard Faction of dwarves/Ironforge faction and all the associated smaller clans (Stormpikes for instance) Are mountain dwarves.

Dark Iron dwarves are also considered mountain dwarves. They do not have an actual tie to iron dwarves other then in name.

Wildhammer Dwarves have recently re-ignited ties with the alliance, they are best known for being the gryphon riders through out the series. They are Hill Dwarves.

Earthen (Uldaman): The first revealed earthen, they are esscentially dwarves in a more primal state, made of stone ofcourse. In esscence that is what they are, the original dwarves.

The Frostborn (Frost Dwarves): Recently discovered this race of blue skinned (there is a pale skinned frostborn as well, forgot his name atm) dwarves make their home in Frosthold, they have the earthen design imprint on their foreheads, something that is not found on dwarves of the present warcraft world. They are not earthen however, and are actually evolved much like the other dwarves. They may have been earthen that adapted to the cold of northrend.

Iron Dwarves: A mysterious race of dwarves who are adept in forging (more so then their modern cousins) and use runes of power. They are led by the deranged watcher Loken, and are determined to destroy and hide the secrets of the titans, and their origins. As such we do not know their true origin.

Earthen (Ulduar): These special earthen are much more burlyer then the other earthen and are more stone like then the other earthen. They are apparently made of a special stone from northrend according to a quest. (The above comment mistakes the Frostborn for these earthen, The Exiles of Ulduar quest refers to these earthen). The Iron Dwarves may have originated from these earthen, they share several physical traits and in the beta of WotLK these earthen had runes on their bodies as well.

Currently in PTR, the new 5man instance (Pitt of saron) gives rep with them for each kill. Don't know if it's going to be this way once it comes live, but it's going to be a great way to boost it.

Haven't tried other two instances, so I can't tell if they give rep. too.

I could be wrong, but im pretty sure Alliance vanguard rep is now working similar to how "Alliance" town rep would work. you get whatever faction Vanguard rep for doing the instances and a smaller amount for other factions in it, but a majority if not all 80's running around in new 5mans and daily randoms were allready exalted with sunreavers and valiance expedition and this rep is listed while you gain rep with all 4 factions.
the frostborn and explorer league daily also gives rep in the same way. 250 rep with frostborn 62 unlisted with explorers league

the rate im getting explorers leage rep is going up by the same amount for frostborn inside instances

tl:dr. all vanguard rep is gained, yay rep

The Frost Dwarves are definitely made of flesh, in the quest "Missing Scouts" they cough up blood before they die. I would presume their blue skin is a result of them evolving in Northrend. Not because it is colder there as that would scientifically make no sense, but rather because there is an abundance of cobalt ore in Northrend, so the Frost Dwarves probably have cobalt in their blood rather than iron since when iron oxidizes it turns red (hence red Human blood) and when cobalt oxidizes it turns blue. This is also the reason why Draenei have blue skin.

Im not sure how or why, but i dinged up a rep level (Friendly to honoured) part way through a HoL heroic run, while recieving Silver Covenant rep for kills. Maybe you get a very small amount of rep per mob killed or something? It might have been 'Splash' rep?

As of Patch 3.3, you now gain reputation for both the Frostborn and the Explorer's League just from running dungeons. This is of course unless you are wearing a faction tabard. I was midway through honored before Patch 3.3 hit, and I just hit exalted with them today. Same with the Explorer's League.

It just seems to me that the only reason these and the Explorer's League are available for rep grinds is for acheivements. There are people out there that just like grinding rep with various factions albiet unnecessary to overall gameplay.

As of patch 3.3, it is now possible to get Frostborn rep (along with Explorer's League) from running random heroic instances (maybe normal too, not sure as I haven't tested for that). 1 rep for most non-elite mobs, standard elite mobs yield 7~8 rep, while bosses will yield 125.

I've read over the comments here and I noticed one "branch" of dwarves is missing: Troggs.

While they may have evolved differently, they stem from the same Earthen.

Well, since last 3.3 Patch there will be reputation given for Explorer's League in any Dungeon. And in addition there will be "splash-reputation" for Frostborn reputation. Just make sure you're not wearing any Tabart of another fraction.

So there is no need anymore to do the (single) daily 156 times to get your reputation to exalted.

Just do Random (Daily) Dungeons. It got me from friendly to exalted in 2 weeks, for both Explorer's League and Frostborne. :)

Sad for those who did do the 156 days of solid grinding that daily :S

As of 3.3 rep is gained with this faction in 5 man dungeons while a Champion Tabard is not equipped. This appears to be the last of the Argent Vanguard that will be filled in, but no matter which rep set it says your getting, you still get the full rep.

To get it all straight from now on Explores League quests give Frostborn rep aswell.
If you want to get the rep through dungeons, mind that it will be one of the last reps to raise. There is also no tabard like Argent Crusade, Kirin Tor, Wyrmrest accord and Ebon Blade, so again rep for this faction will be given last (together with Eplorers League) in lvl80 dungeons.
It is probs best to first get rep through tabard with Wyrmrest (2 dailies ain't goin that fast)
Next depends
- If you try to become Champion of your faction, keep the AC tabard for last, if it's even needed then. Your Silver Convenant/ Warsong Offensive will get to exalted aswell.
- If you're doing all cooking daily's to gain all recipes and the chefs hat and like to do some fishingdailies you probs won't even need the Kirin Tor tabard.
- If you like to hang around with dead people, Ebon Blade offers multiple dailies.
And Valliance Expedition/Hand of Vengeance rep increases with practically everything you do in Northrend. I noticed the increase when I got exalted :P
As Champion of the Alliance and Chef I didn't need tabards for the KT and AC reps. Almost exalted with those dragons and yeah it ain't half bad hanging with Sliver and the Leaper, but there comes an end to how many days of staring inside some rotten blubbers guts every single day.
But anywho, after you get these exalted you can finally storm the dungeons to get rep for these guys. The Frostborne, for those who already forget what this comment was all about.
Btw if you finally get into the dungeons for them, make sure you don't wear any of the other factions tabards

I haven't done the daily once, how did I get 1500 rep from exalted? Is there a hidden mob somewhere that gives rep?
Do holiday quests give rep? I must know.
