Part of the Horde questline for the Wrath Gate event. This quest line is very long and spans the entire length of Dragonblight. Quite honestly, I consider this one of the most important quest lines (thus far) in Wrath. A must-do for any hordeling. :)

In quite a few of these chains there are optional prequests. I will not list these, despite them being in the quest series list, because they are just that: Optional. I will list the LATEST quest available that will start the chain, or the one most likely to pick up while completing other parts of this chain.

Additionally, these quests are Horde Only. I, unfortunately, do not have an Alliance character on the Beta, so I do not have access to any alliance quests. Sorry!

Step names are purely flavor. They generalize what that part of the chain leads up to/is about.

I highly urge everyone to read the quest text. This quest line is quite possibly one of the most epic in Warcraft history and is highly worth the time. Lore lovers and haters alike should enjoy them.

For the Alliance! Here are the quest steps you need to go through for this achievement. "Optional" quests are those that can be done with the main quests with little to no extra effort.

Like the Horde version, I cannot recommend enough that you take the time to read the quest text. Seriously, this is one of the best questlines in the game, hands down. It's worth taking the extra time to read everything.

Part 1:

1) The Lost Courier
2) Of Traitors and Treason
3) High Commander Halford Wyrmbane
4) Naxxramas and the Fall of Wintergarde
5) Flight of the Wintergarde Defender
6) Return to the High Commander

At this point, the High Commander will give you two quests.

Part 2a:

1) Rescue from Town Square (optional: The Fate of the Dead)
2) Find Durkon!
3) The Noble's Crypt
4) Secrets of the Scourge (obtained from the tome to the right of Necrolord Amarion)
5) Mystery of the Tome
6) Understanding the Language of Death
7) A Righteous Sermon

Part 2b:

1) The Demo-gnome
2) The Search for Slinkin (optional: The Bleeding Ore and Not in Our Mine)
3) Leave Nothing to Chance
4) Understanding the Scourge War Machine

Then, everything meets up again at the High Commander, and you go back to one line of quests.

Sunsmoon did a great job on the Horde questline for the Veteran of the Wrathgate achivement that I thought an Alliance one was in order. I stumbled into it and completed it without knowing what I was getting myself into, and I have to say it was an amazing storyline. Like Sunsmoon says, do yourself a favor and read the quests to soak up all the lore.

Absolutly Best Quest line EVER! I wish blizz made it a requirement instead of just an achievement. the quests that follow(at least for alliance side) Is extremely awesome and fun as well. you get to attack the Undercity with Jaina and the King of SW :) Very fun and exciting quest line.

XP/Rep through the cinematic (didn't keep track for 'Step 7', doh). In the interest of not typing as much, I didn't type 'xp' or 'rep'. First number (the big one) is xp, 2nd one is rep. Before abbreviating a faction (WO, for instance), I spell it out fully (Warsong Offensive). Totals at the bottom.

It's not rounded. Experience and Rep are kept to full decimal places. I'm alliance and play a human and you get an extra 10% rep for any rep gains. What happens if say you get 25 rep for something, you get an extra 10% so you gain 27.5 rep. What it displays in game is it alternates it saying 28 rep, 27 rep 28 rep, etc, if you gain it repeatedly. I've also confirmed it works like this out to atleast two decimal places. So you should put in exactly 2,922.5.

As a lore buff the quest in Wrath are way better then in BC becuase they are mosltly lore related instead of kill this come back quest.

And even with quest like that on a chain at stars rest i was sent to kill a commander named Emma when u kill her she drops 2 items 1 for the quest and 1 to start a hand in quest. that item is a note saying that shes a spy and is working against malganos or her family will die.

On a side not for the few people who would rather turn off the cinamatic cuz they want to lvl and only in it for the xp/rep/achivment doing this chain also "kills" for both horde and alliance Malganis "the deamon that stands next to sylvanus" so if ur going for the achivment "For the Alliance" (killing the horde leaders) you should make sure everyone has done it as if u 40man raid UC and a tank hasent done it he will be fighting malganis while most of the dps can not hit or see him.

Every dime I spent, every pain in the a## quest, every grind, every hour, all of it was worth this moment! The cimematic was wicked awesome, and then getting up close to both Red Dragons Korialstrasz and Alexstrasza The Life Binder - I'm just geeking out - and nearly speachless. This is THE moment in this game for someone who has read most of the fiction.

You MUST complete quest line, including "optional" quest line that starts with Reborn From The Ashes, otherwise you will not be able to fight in enemy cities.

I have made a mistake of thinking that movie was the last part of chain, and today I went to Orgimmar to kill Thrall for For The Alliance! achievement. As soon as I entered city, I couldn't see anyone from the raid, all horde npcs stopped attacking me, I couldn't attack anything. It was supposed to be for next part of quest where you need to visit Orgrimmar to talk to Thrall, but its bugged so even without a quest I couldn't do anything until I finished quest line.

This quest alone is worth the price of the expansion. It's dramatic, powerful, evocative, and really pulls you into the storyline. The phased questing that Blizzard has so masterfully implemented here really gives a feeling of a fluid, moving plot line.

It is a welcome change from just having a static world where nothing changes in between content patches and expansion packs. I would love to see more like this.

When finishing the last quest for the achievement: Return To Angrathar.

Please pick up the next quest Reborn From The Ashes from the big red dragon Alexstrasza the Life-Binder who stands in front of the gate.

I did not, and came up with the problem not to see Horde players in de big Horde cities Orgrimmar and Undercity. (I am Alliance.) The guards will not kill you. You can also not kill them. Even the bosses inside are not killeble. So impossible to finish the achievement For The Alliance..

I went to captain adams and private casey(alliance)and they both didnt have either of the quest that send u to Stars rest and for private casey i did all the quest from Thassarian. any know whats wrong?

You can always watch this clip from your computer go to C:\\ ....\World of Warcraft\Data\enGB/US\Interface\Cinematics\WOW_Wrathgate. But I suggest you to do all the quest = more fun and you will understand it.

I completed it 2day and got the achievment: the whole questchain is awsome, loads of xp, rep and the cinematic is simply kicking ass, the only thing that i found wierd (for me atleast) was that the alliance camp next to the wrathgate is basicly useless after u do the chain (not like u had 2 go there loads of times due to some quest earlyer or w/e), theres 1 gryphon master, bunch of alliance boys and girls running around screaming like little kids, and yeah thats about it, kinda sad =[

While obviously the movie at the end is epic beyond epicness, i believe it was dragged down a little bit.

I think Highlord Bolvar Fordragon is a pretty cool guy, but, his lack of a helmet made me momentarily falter in my awe for the whole movie.

You see, when they do the close up on his face as he yells at the Lich King, I had to giggle a little bit at the his cartoony facial features inherent to the game .If only they gave him some sort of sweet helmet.

Saurfang Jr. is also awesome of course, but he looked better since he has on his spiky neck-brace thing, plus he had less screen time.

Either way, much epicness was experienced, and i look foward to facing Bolvar and Saurfang the Younger as bosses in Icecrown Citadel (you know thats what's going to happen.)

But, i noticed something, during this epic battle Bolvar and Saurfang speak to each other, does this mean that either Bolvar can speak orcish or Saurfang can speak common?

To anyone alliance side who is saving their ability to go to Org for fishing for old crafty (ie not completing the quest to go to the next step so you can talk to Jaina to open a portal for you again whenever you wish) be wary. This also affects your ability to raid Thrall for the bear mount. I have been doing just that. Going to Jaina for a portal to the empty Org zone so I can fish for old crafty when I have some spare time. Last night I was invited to go on a raid for Org. Upon running there to the back door with the rest of the raid everything was normal, however upon entering myself and the other healer in the raid 'phased'. The rest of the raid disappeared though we could still see their dots on our mini map and we were running around in the empty org instance with no players and NPCs not attacking us...rendering us completely useless to everyone else. Neither of us knew that being on this quest would affect the 'real' Org. We thought the quest just took us to another instance of the city for the quest purposes. Had we known we would have of course declined on the invite to the raid, but hindsight is 20/20.

So just FYI don't try to raid Org if you are still on this part of the quest.

Also enemy commanders in alterac valley speak your faction's language, another absurd thing is that forsaken cannot speak common, as they were human after all. Let's add this to the nonsense wall and keep on playing =)

I should also note that you can get behind the gate of the wrathgate (the place the Lich King comes from) by flying over it and down. Nothing in there but blackness and sadly the gate doesn't open ='( .

Okay, to those who say, "Most awesome cutscene ever." Erm, no. Blizz themselves have done better. It was good and a welcome (and unexpected) addition to WotLK, but it was not that amazing. IMO, anyway. Mass Effect, for instance, blows this away on a regular basis. :) (Nevermind the astounding opening cutscene/preview for the new Star Wars MMO. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and check out The Old Republic's "Betrayal" cutscene. It's amazingly epic.)

Great cutscene! I have not been playing WoW for that long so I don't know what has gone on in the past, but this was awesome. My main toon is a forsaken and my absolute favorite part of this scene was when Sylvanas (forgive me if I spelled it wrong) showed up and said "Death to the scourge and death to the living!". Showed the true nature of the forsaken and exactly why I choose to play one.

Yes I realize my mistake after doing the quests in UC after getting the achievment. It was the apothecary that was at the wrathgate and not Sylvanas.

Anyone knows why the f*** couldn't i see the cinematic? =(
After a 5 secs. lag or so i got the achievement and saw the place in flames... Then i saw the dragon queen, asked her to tell me what happened, and nothing, just a tiny fps lag, where i suppose the game tried to launch the cinematic, and obviously failed.
I watched it anyways (youtube), and i agree, was awesome. Luckyly I came here to find out...

I failed at this. I am an ally and when you were supposed to kill all those things in the crypts I gave up. It was too hard! So then I went to Grizzly Hills and I am VERY jealous of all those people that goes like "ooh its the coolest!" and then I know I missed it... =,(

Ok 2 things. First thing is that if you are any level over 72 and havent done this quest go slap yourself in the face and go do this quest right now. About the language discussion and such I think its simply all NPCs have a sorta universal language, like how all horde can speak orcish or all alliance can speak common.

Guys, if you have the achivement, you have to continue to undercity.

DONT! take the UC portal in dala. Cuz you will come in the middle of UC with all the guys. And the lifts are sabotaged so u cant get out.

i found that the battle of the undercity on the alliance side is a bit easier that the battle on the horde side you only have to face 2 on the alliance and 3 on the horde though i have to admit that the worm sucked to fight a lot more than the ones on the horde side because every few seconds the worm will ingest you in which you cant attack or cast spells

I know a lot of people get lost going through the chain to get to Return to Angrathar for the achievement. I wrote a step-by-step listing guide on how to start it and get to it. I didn't write how to do the quests since the chain is sooooo long it would just hit you as a wall of text, I see it more as a map. It has it both for horde and alliance. Please let me know if I got something wrong. Hope this helps:
