"Slain" could also just mean "Defeated", like how in Ulduar, you don't actually KILL the Keepers, you just get them down to 1% and they turn Friendly/unattackable.

"Kingslayer" sounds stupid, IMO.

Killing the Lich King could mean saving Arthas' soul and restoring it to his body during the defeat of Ner'zhul

In order to even get to the lich king u need to defeat all of the bosses in the previous wings within 5 attempts (for each wing, so 5 attempts on proffesor putricide, then when the next wing comes out, u have 10 attempts, then the next wing u have 15 attempts) so at the end of all that, if you managed to down Professor Putricide, Blood-Queen Lana'thel and Sindragosa within 15 attempts then you can challenge the lich king.
blizzard do intend to remove/add more attempts at a later date

The simplest explanation is usually the right one. Kingslayer obviously implies the slaying (killing) of a king, AKA the Lich King. He will die and someone else must take up the title, as explained by Uther The Lightbriger in The Halls Of Reflection.

well now we know that we slain Arthas, not the Lich King, which is impossible because the Lich King is the Helmet, not Arthas, the new Lich King is Bolvar Fordragon, pretty convenient ending to this saga, Bolvar will control the Scrouge and you won't see the Lich King ever again.

You kill Arthas... defeat the Lich King, the Lich King can't die, there always has to be one, thats why Bolvar has to take over as the Lich King.
