In the Hodir encounter, the time to complete the hard mode has been increased to 3 minutes. (This will be applied during maintenance beginning with North America on Tuesday May 5.)

We were doing it normal way on 10 man and after we kill him after 4:30 minutes he bugged somehow and we got the achievement and the loot ofc.. :)

We wiped about 5-6 times at Hodir (10) last night and when we actually killed him, I got a Shiver down the spine.
Not really sure about the time it took us to down him, but most of us agreed that somehow it was bugged. Anyway we got the achieve, one conquest emblem and for me one more option for tank weapons.

done this twice now on 10 man. here is what we did:

one MT (protection paladin)

fury warrior
moonkin
moonkin
lock
lock
hunter
shadow priest

holy paladin
resto shaman

the vast majority of a prot paladin's threat is based in magical dmg. so in terms of keeping ahead of the casters paladins do very well on this fight. our shadow priest was consistently between 12 and 20k tps and didnt have to worry.

here are the main points to observe during the fight.

1. assign one member (for us it was a moonkin) to focus on keeping up the singed debuff...losing this is a big dps drop before youc an build it up again.
2. make sure the person with the crit dmg increase buff stands still as much as possible. utilising this buff is very much needed.
3. mark the mage add, and the shaman add (not the ice block they are in) with a clear symbol such as a star or orange circle and make sure the whole raid is focused on breaking them out first after a flash freeze, in order to keep the fires and crit dmg buffs up, but also because the mage helps break out the other npcs.
4. use savers and cooldowns to keep the raid and tank up during frozen blows. with only 2 healers and a tank with no frost res gear on it does hurt on 10 man. we were using paladin bubbles and empowered auras on a rotation. this was so effective i didnt see anyone go below 75% hp for us.

this is a relatively straight forward fight, but reminds me a lot of malygos 6 minutes in terms of being very reliant on buff control and usage.

At the very start, we freed the mage and shaman, then clumped all around fires. After Flash Freeze we only freed the mage, and during Frozen Blows both shamans tossed around Chain Heals. I solo healed the rest of it - if your group dodges icicles and stacks on fire, there's very little raid damage. Killed in 2:43.

Most of these posts involve having a paladin MT, I'm trying to explain this with a Warrior as MT

As a Warrior in the current patch (3.1.2), your frontload threat sucks compare to other Tanks (especially if you have lucky parry and dodge). On top of this, I also used 3 pieces of Frost Resist for Resist cap to help out with healing. This means not expertise softcap nor hit cap, low strength and block value. Even with all this it is still possible to tank this as a warrior.

As you can see, we don't have Bloodlust/Heroism from a Shaman. As others suggested, you break the mage on first priority, the shaman second. In the beginning, break all NPCs. After the first Flash Freeze, only break the Mage and Shaman.

As a warrior you benefit HUGELY from the shaman's storm cloud (whoever gets it will do a /yell emote) if you spec into impale and deep wounds. When that happens, your shield slam could still potential crit up to 16k. This is your frontal load of threat. Mocking Blow is used on cooldown in case someone have a burst of threat and somehow went over 130% of yours (if that happens Taunt immediately to try to "steal" their aggro before Mocking Blow's gone). I also position so that all dps (especially melee) get to use spotlights all before the 1st Flash Freeze) so I did not get the GCD reduction from this to hold threat. Tricks of the Trade and Misdirect were also helpful (especially Tricks).

We had both the mage and shadowpriest keeping up the singe buff, we (the horde) also use /tar Veesha /tar spirit to mark the mage and and the shaman before the encounter to break them out asap. We had around 20 seconds left when we finished it. Besides me, nobody else used any Frost Resist. The priest was on raid heal, and paladin was mostly on me and glyph of holy light on melee (or whenever casters get in melee rage for the crit stacking).

Benefit to this is very little tanking healing needed as I shield wall the first frozen blow, last stand/enrage regen the second. Elementary elements to this encounter become very important. People should not get Flash Frozen, people should not get hit by falling icicles, and people should not go nuts without watching threat meter. I ended up with only 6-8k TPS, with occasionally 13k TPS in the beginning or whenever I happen to chance a storm cloud from a healer or a caster.

My group has done this twice now. Our set up:

Prot Paladin MT
Fury Warrior
Ret Paladin

Arcane mage x2
Warlock
Hunter
Elemental Shaman
Holy priest

Our poor holy priest is our solo healer, except when it comes to Frozen Blows; Shaman helps with heals when that occurs. Prot Paladin wears a few pieces of frost resist to help with the damage and to lessen the healing burden.

When the fight starts, free all four NPCs as quickly as possible, starting with the mage. The mage helps with the others, but when you first start off, getting them all out quickly is imperative. Since the group is range heavy, we try to get the Storm Power buff up on one of them quickly. Melee attempts to stay inside the light columns for the haste buff. We try to ge the toasty fire buff up on the Hunter, since he can stack it quickly. We blow Bloodlust once we have 4 storm power buffed DPS. Once the Flash Freeze hits, you only really need to free the mage NPC; she's pretty good about freeing the other NPCs.

The holy priest focuses everything she's got on the MT. MT judges light for the extra healing, and the Shaman DPS's until Frozen Blows. Once he does that, the shaman starts throwing heals out on the raid. First time we had 10 seconds to spare, second time we had 20 seconds. Good luck, it's a fun achievement!

Just something I wanna clarify from the guys who've done this, the Storm Cloud buff from the Shammy hits one member and is then spread (and diminished per stack) whenever he touches someone else right? So was it more effective to have it stay on one dps or to spread it around?

Tried it tonight...

Caution: DON'T TRUST DEADLY BOSS MOD!

We had 3 seconds left to go on the DBM timer...didn't make it. (We were about 9 seconds to slow. (Damn you shaman with 3k dps! :-P ))

So to be on the safe side..aim for ~ 2:50 on the timer.
