If u stand with ur back STRAIGHT infront of a keg u have to defend and when they come in (melee?) range u can hit them u cant hit em from long range, not for me anyway. It seemed easier last year.
I made a macro: /tar Dark Iron Guzzler and then chuck n chug :p
but even without targetting it worked.
They should drop a cog which can be picked up and turned in for 10 Brewfest tokens.
Only if they did not smash any kegs iirc.

2008 version was way easier, right now you do not have any aiming cursor. The only way I managed to hit a few dark irons was to go melee and shoot from inside their hitbox (which is an annoyance and a clunky mechanic as the dwarfs will end up knockback you no matter what). I've been trying for a few hours now, and I haven't seen anyone on my server getting this achievement so far.

Personally, after several failed attempts I made a macro. Since running up to them just doesn't seem to be an option when they keep kicking you back.

Its bugged on Horde servers... You cant hit them properly, the mugs just fly over them...
We were like 500 players and we managed to kill only 76...

It might be worth noting that you don't actually have to participate in the event to get the quest off the cog that's left behind if you win. I happened to run out to the Brewfest grounds shortly after the event was over, and I was able to get the quest. Though I highly recommend participating, since where else can you throw mugs at dwarves?

The Iron Dwarves drops a gear on the ground when they retreat after 5 minutes ~. If you want them to retreat you gotta protect the Kegs of Beer where you can fill your stein. If they destroy just one of the kegs its game over and you have to wait another ~30 minutes for them to come back.

Its impossible if you're alone since there will be alot of them.

Someone in general chat claimed you needed to be completely smashed in order to hit the dwarves, but I doubt it. Still, I'll test it at the next invasion, since my current tactic isn't working.

Edit: Tried using the aforementioned macro, and was completely smashed. Still couldn't hit anything unless I was standing right behind the dwarves, which of course turned into pinball. Gotta wait for a hotfix I suppose.

Fun Fact: You can pick up both factions' versions of the quest, but you won't be able to turn in the opposite faction quest, because the NPC that you need to talk to hates you.

There goes my plan to do the alliance version and complete the achievement - on my realm, the hordeside brewfest grounds are utterly deserted so doing this is going to be near impossible.

Sometimes I do think achievements that require 20 or 30 ppl to work together on realms where players simply aren't interested (or unable to) in doing that is a little unfair :)

There is way too much myth here. You don't need to target them, you don't need to be a certain distance. Get smashed, throw cups, you don't even need to pick them up during the attack, it's automatic. If you're smashed, they're homing mugs, you do NOT need to position yourself in a certain way. Only other way to hit them is whirlwind from throwing too many.

How I did it :

This is actually how i did it on my alt, because when I first went there on my main, the battle just ended so i picked up the item and returned it and **FLASH** achievment.

1) Enter brewfest
2) Wait till _:00 or _:30
3) go to a keg
4) get a Brewfest Sample
5) Keep right-clicking it

ONLY GO ON IF ALLY WINS. if not, Rinse and Repeat from 2.

6) Pick up the quest/daily they leave behind
7) Return it
8) **FLASH** achievment.
9) be happy
10) Be happy more

This seems like an insanely difficult achievement to get on classic right now. With 4-5 people spamming right click on the mugs and get the super-mugs we were still overrun.
