End of Season 8 and Testing for Season 9
Hey, guys, a quick news post coming. Our local Bashiok just posted something exciting on the WoW forums: the next arena season is available for testing on the Cataclysm Beta and you should all go test it provide extensive bug reports and feedback! The official announcement doesn't tell much more than what I just gave you:
Arena Season 9 is now running and available for testing in the Cataclysm beta.
To help facilitate testing we'd like to ask that those interested in providing bug reports and feedback focus on playing arena games, but also participating in the rated battlegrounds. Please let us know if you find any issues or have any feedback. Thanks.
EDIT: Another blue post, this one about arena season 8 ending. It is by the lovely floating skull, Zarhym:
We are currently planning to end Arena Season 8 as early as October 12. At that point we will go through our normal process to determine who is eligible for the end-of-season rewards. This process should take approximately one week. It's very important

Cataclysm Beta: Tol Barad Focus Test
Blizzard Developers will be on the beta realms on Monday September 27th at 4PM PST to test
Tol Barad
. You will need to be level 85 to join the battle and the timers between battles will be sped up so several games can be played during this testing period.
We are planning to do a focused playtest on Tol Barad on Monday the 27th at 4pm PST. We would like to get as many players out there on the beta to help us as possible. You must be level 85 to join the battle. We will speed up the game timer so we can play multiple games during the test.
I will make a new feedback post after we finish the test for everyone to post in. Feedback is very important for us at this point so please take your time and try to be as concise as possible with your findings.
Thanks for the help!

Cataclysm Preview: The Battle for Gilneas
Blizzard has released another preview, this time of the new battleground coming in Cataclysm -
La bataille de Gilnéas
! This new 10 vs 10 battleground will take place in the actual city of Gilneas, and feature many familiar objectives. Much like
Bassin Arathi
, you must control
one of three capture points
that accumulate points - first team to 2000 points is the victor! What's so great about this map that it's actually
in
the city so there are all kinds of choke points and places you can strategically block the opposite faction from progressing.
You can read the entire preview after the break or on Blizzard's official
website

Cataclysm Preview: Twin Peaks Battleground
Slorkuz has just posted about a new preview of a battleground in the upcoming Cataclysm expansion called...
Twin Peaks
. Situated in the Twilight Highlands, the new battleground will be a new 10v10 capture-the-flag style battle much like
Goulet des Chanteguerres
. Both factions will be assisting either the Dragonmaw Orcs or the Wildhammer Dwarves depending on their faction.
You can check out the entire preview over on the official Cataclysm
website

Cataclysm PvE Badge and PvP Point Changes
Blizzard just posted changes to the badge system in
Cataclysm
... they are going to become Hero and Valor points! Basically the PvP point system being applied to PvE raiding.
Hero Points
will be earned from most dungeons (much like
Emblème de triomphe
) and
Valor Points
will be from high-tier raids (like
Emblème de givre
).
While there will be a maximum cap of Valor Points you can earn each week I personally think this could be one of the better changes to come to the badge/emblem/point system since the introduction of them in The Burning Crusade. So what does everyone think of the changes?
On the PvP side,
Conquest Points
will replace Arena Points as the complement to Honor Points. Personal rating requirements will also be removed from almost all items, including weapons.
You can read all the details in the original blue post, available after the break.

WSG Experts: The Official WoW Magazine Wants Your Tactics!
The industrious gnomes and goblins at the
World of Warcraft Official Magazine
are currently working on issue two. One of its regular features is
Battlegrounds Back to Basics
—this time around, covering
Goulet des Chanteguerres

As part of that feature, they're looking for hints and tips from WSG veterans. Is that you? If so, please feel free to post your favorite Warsong Gulch
one-line
strategies, tactics and tricks that help give you the winning edge! These can either be team oriented, or even class specific.
The best suggestions will be incorporated into the feature as quotes - and of course your character will be fully credited (please include character and realm name!). Remember, these should be straightforward one-liners—we’re not looking for long paragraphs packed with intricate details.

PvP Resilience Buff In Place for Season 8
As mentioned two days ago in the blog about the upcoming
Arena Season 8
, Blizzard has decided to hotfix a buff to resilience. This will
double the value
of resilience in reducing damage done by players, depending on how much you have you could see between a 10 and 20% decrease in damage taken.
The critical strike chance and critical strike damage are unaffected by this change. Blizzard also mentions how this might make healing in PvP difficult to counter and may make changes if this occurs.
So what does everyone think on this change? Is this good or bad for the PvP community?
You can read the blue post after the break.

Arena Season 7 Ends, 8 to Start Soon
With arena season 7 coming to an end tomorrow (Jan 19), it is about time we all look forward to the next arena season.
Gladiateur courroucé
will become the new season's high-end set costing arena points and having rating requirements on most of the pieces.
Relentless Gladiator
pieces will have a lower arena point cost than the previous season and rating requirements lowered or removed. Next,
Furious Gladiator
will be moved to the honor point system. Finally the
Deadly Gladiator
set will be removed off all vendors.
New Damage/Healing Debuff?
There is also a major change that might happen for the last season before Cataclysm. Blizzard is considering experimenting a little bit, as mentioned in the recent Twitter
#BlizzChat
:
Q. If damage and healing is too much per health ratio, then why don't you have battlegrounds/arenas give a -30% damage/healing debuff?
A. We have been talking about solutions

Arena Season 7 Ending Soon
According to a post by Bornakk on the official forums, Arena Season 7 will be ending as early as January 19. When that time comes around it will take one week for Blizzard to calculate who will be eligible for end-of-season rewards, such as
Wyrm de givre du gladiateur implacable
and season titles.
We are currently planning to end Arena Season 7 as early as January 19. At that point we will go through our normal process to determine who is eligible for the end-of-season rewards. This process should take approximately one week. It's very important for players who feel that they may be eligible for the arena-specific titles and/or Relentless Gladiator’s Frostwyrm to refrain from transferring their character to another realm until after Arena Season 7 ends.
The following Arena Season will not begin for at least one week after the current season ends. During this time between seasons, all rated matches will be turned off and only skirmishes will be available. When Arena Season 8 begins, all team ratings, personal rating, and arena points will be wiped, but matchm

Arena Season 8: Wrathful Gladiator
With 3.3 approaching at an alarming pace it is about time to talk about the Future... Of Arenas. As some of you may know the next season is going to be called
Gladiateur courroucé
.
Now many of you may be asking the $25,000 question: When is Arena Season 8 going to be coming out? Well I might have an answer for you, but it isn't confirmed by Blizzard in the slightest. From my calculations I am guessing that the current arena season is going to end around the end of the year, which would put it around December 29th or January 5th. The last 3 arena seasons ended after 17, 17, and 18 weeks respectively which would put those two dates in the same time frame from when the season started (Season 7 started September 1, 2009.)
Along with this we also know what the reward for season 8 is for the select few who make it into the top ranks: the legendary
Wyrm de givre du gladiateur courroucé

3.3 Patch Notes Updated! (Build 10747)
So the latest PTR build has some very interesting changes to the
patch notes
, including one I've been waiting for for a long time—it appears that meeting stones no longer have a maximum level requirement. Anyone above level 15 can be summoned by any meeting stone. It also appears that 71-80 battlegrounds now reward a small number of arena points. Veeeeery interesting...
Edit:
Looks like they've adjusted that line in the patch notes. It now says "All level 71-80 Battleground daily quests will now award 25 Arena points in addition to their current rewards."

Q&A Crusaders' Coliseum + Isle of Conquest
Looks like the class Q&A were popular enough to make Blizzard create non-class Q&A as well :) I don't know about you, but I feel better seeing that all those questions we ask on the forums are being read, and some of them - even answered. Publicly.
This time it's a combined Q&A about the
Crusaders' Coliseum
(the new 5-, 10-, and 25-man dungeons) and the
Isle of Conquest
(the new Battleground).
I myself didn't find a terrible lot of new information in this Q&A, but it helps to see all those thing put together by somebody from Blizzard. Follow the link to the WoW-Europe forums, or read on to find out what

Isle of Conquest Preview
Alterac Valley, Arathi Basin, Eye of the Storm, Strand of the Ancients, Warsong Gulch...and soon the
Isle of Conquest
.
Blizzard have finally released some info about their new battleground, to be launched in the next major content patch - 3.2, Call of the Crusade. Apparently the events from the Wrathgate, Undercity, the Broken Front, and a few other locations of conflict have led to something very close to all-out war between the Alliance and the Horde. Even places of no clear significance have become contested zones, certain areas of which are literally ravaged by war! One such place will be the Isle of Conquest, a small island somewhere in the Frozen Sea.
But enough fluffy-talk! Take a look at the entire article, following the link below...

Arena Changes
Crygil recently announced some changes to the arena rating system. To give you a basic overview, they're changing the 3v3 and 5v5 rating systems to correct the imbalance between the ratings people can achieve in those brackets vs. the 2v2 bracket. Please note that they're also increasing the ratings requirements for the ilevel 239 weapons to compensate—
but the tooltips will not change immediately

There's No Such Thing as a Cheap Lunch
I feel like I might have been a little too down on PvP last time, so I'd like to continue my Street Fighter metaphor from my
last post
. To that end, I have a shocking revelation for many of you:
“Being cheap” doesn't exist in competitive games.
I, like everyone else, have fallen repeatedly to rogues in PvP situations where I've been simply stunlocked from 100% health until I die, and frequently even by rogues that have worse gear or are lower level than me, just like I've lost against people in Street Fighter that do nothing but jump kick/sweep.
We all know that classes have had balance issues in the past, and will continue to have balance issues in the future (though some might argue they're worse now than they have been), Blizzard isn't perfect, but when you get demolished in PvP by a Death Knight, ask yourself: Do you say, “Oh, well, it's a DK, so it doesn't count” or do you say, “Hmm, okay, what can I do differently next time to increase my odds of winning?”
Live
Player vs. Street
I never got particularly into fighting games. Until fairly recently, I could never pull off any of the special moves with any amount of regularity, let alone ridiculously complicated combos, and without being able to do the move you want to do, suddenly you're not competing against the person you're sitting next to or against a computer, you're competing against your own hand eye coordination. I'm not down on personal tests of hand eye coordination, but I generally dislike situations in which I'm faced with a challenge that I need to surpass to even be able to compete on the same level as someone else.
That's why I'm so excited about Street Fighter 4. According to my brief experiences playing it (it only was released for consoles on the 17th), and what I've read about it, it seems like they're trying to move away from complicated special moves and combos, and towards predicting what the opponent is going to do, and reacting to it before they can do it.
I guess what I'm really trying to say here is that I don't particularly like PvP.
