Confident bougie
has garnered a lot of attention recently after it was utilized in the Nerub-ar Palace Race to World First. While this trinket is incredibly powerful, it is also quite easy to obtain as you can get it by just completing Delves.
Farming a Champion track
Confident bougie
from Tier 8 delves, and upgrading it to 619 will beat out many trinkets that are significantly higher item level than it, being roughly equivalent to a 632 ilvl
Changelin délié
for most specializations.
However, picking one up from your Great Vault will let this trinket really strut its stuff, as the increased item level helps it substantially.
So, what does this trinket do, what makes it so strong, and how can you take full advantage of it yourself? All of that will be covered here.
Meet our Waxy Friends
While its description isn't very assuming, when this effect triggers, it will summon one of the three potential little candle friends to assist you in combat. Those 3 candles are
Ciire
,
Wayne
and
Prendre
, all of which do slightly different things.

These little guys are adorable!
Note: Keep away from Kobolds.
All three of these little friends behave slightly differently, as you can see.
Ciire
is a caster, who likes to hang back at range to attack.
Wayne
is an aggressive little one who runs into melee range to melee attack, and hits enemies with their
Flamme pas si gentille
. And finally,
Prendre
which seems like a combination of both. But, due to being a combination of both, they sometimes get a little confused, running between melee range to hit enemies with
Flamme pas si gentille
and their auto-attack, then back out to where you are to cast
Allumage !
.
Due to their different fighting styles, there are some differences in the damage each one deals.
Wayne
is generally the best spawn, as its aggressive nature and focus on the target lets it deal a lot of damage with its auto attacks.
Prendre
is the next strongest, as their
Flamme pas si gentille
and
Allumage !
are just stronger variants than the other two cast, but its confusion holds it back, with all that running around it doesn't get much time to really show what he can do. Finally
Ciire
is the weakest of the bunch, being a pure caster with a relatively weak cast which means its damage is nothing to write home about. With that in mind, if you get lucky and spawn
Wayne
frequently, this trinket can deal an incredible amount of damage. There are other ways to increase their potential though.
Min-Maxing our Candle Companions
Since 2 of the 3 little friends like to run into melee range to attack their targets, the first thing you can do to optimize their damage potential is to be there already. While its not exactly normal for ranged specializations to hang out with the melee group, doing so for this trinket can increase its potential substantially, as they will spend less time running from you, to their target to start dealing damage. This also helps
Prendre
's confusion, as they want to be by your side, but also want to run into melee to attack. This behavior causing them to run back and forth between the two areas hinders its potential drastically. While this doesn't really help
Ciire
, it's already trying its best!
The other major thing you can do to maximize this trinket is pretty simple, find abilities that buff these little guys! The easiest one for anyone to get would be the Orc racial,
Commandement
. There are specializations with many of these effects that can make this trinket just incredibly strong, such as Diabolist Demonology Warlocks, which can buff them with
Maîtrise : Maître démonologue
,
Flammes de Xoroth
, and
Domination abyssale
.

Technical Details
For those of you who want to know exactly what makes this trinket so potent, from the effects that buff it, to why their auto attacks deal so much damage let's go over that here.
Auto Attacks
It's very likely this trinket was not intended to have any of the pets melee attack, as their auto attacks utilize NPC level-based scaling to calculate its damage, meaning it will be unaffected by your trinket item level. They just do as much damage as a level 80 enemy would do, while we did explore their scaling, it seems like they thankfully utilize open-world scaling values rather than utilizing the current dungeon/raid/delve difficulty multipliers.
Weird pet AI
Prendre
's AI is also entirely just broken. It seems as a caster pet, it wants to stand next to the player who summoned it, but
Flamme pas si gentille
has a 5-yard range limitation, forcing it to run into melee to utilize this ability. So when summoned, it will run into melee, use
Flamme pas si gentille
, run back out to where you are standing, try to cast
Allumage !
, and repeat this a few times. This makes his damage substantially lower than you would expect it to be, given his abilities have the highest coefficient of all 3. This is just due to all the time spent moving, and not really doing much else. If it were not for the auto attacks these guys do, this trinket would be exceptionally bad.
Stat Inheritance Issues
The pets themselves, also seem to have some issues with stat inheritance from the player who summoned them. Their melee attacks do not scale with critical strike chance at all, always utilizing the base 5% chance (

&
Allumage !
scale fine with player crit chance). Alongside this quirk, everything they do is unaffected by haste, meaning the 2-second cast time of
Flamme pas si gentille
will always be 2 seconds, no matter how much haste you have, their auto attacks are a static 2-second swing time as well. This might be due to the trinket having a 1+haste RPPM rate, meaning the proc rate will increase with haste, but the pet damage per proc will remain static with haste.
Pet Scaling & Aura 531
Since its introduction in Shadowlands, Aura Subtype 531 has been causing things probably not intended to scale with these effects to scale. The most infamous instance of this was

in late Shadowlands, causing Unholy Death Knights and Demonology Warlocks to buff this summon with their Mastery. This caused this soulbinds scaling to just go entirely wild and had to be changed to not apply the effects of aura subtype 531 to Bron. This aura subtype is meant to buff any "guardian" type pet, which are summoned by Aura Subtype 28. But, not affect pets summoned by Aura Subtype 56. But this has been issue-prone with Trinkets, and other external effects since its introduction, and will cause trinkets like
Confident bougie
, and
Sceau de concordance algari
to go absolutely wild if a player can get enough of these auras stacked on them.
With this aura type also being an inherent part of the Specialization Auras that Blizzard utilizes to tune much of the time means when you see "All ability damage buffed by x%", that will often also apply to trinkets like this. For example, if a Blood Death Knight utilized one of these items, it would see a massive 47% passive buff to the pet's damage, without any real explanation as to why it does that to players. No other trinket types are affected by the specialization auras, so, why are pet trinkets?
