It is a pain that it's not even a quest we can do to get it, that we're at the mercy of a drop rate, but we aren't FORCED to spend 400g on it. Only if you don't have the time/motivation to farm for it.

I finally found this for a reasonable price (more reasonable than it has been lately, i.e, 800G start with 1000G buyout) on gorefiend alliance. I got it for 150G buyout which is the lowest I've seen it yet. I will be charging regularly for level 70 water now to recoup the costs...

This is a pain in the arse, i've not seen any of these on the AH for weeks now, and with my mage fast approaching 70 i do really need it. What possessed Blizzard to put the level 70 spells as random drops is beyond me, and then just to add icing to the cake they then make it so that if we want to use one of our best utility spells, we need to have these.

Found the food one for 400g on the AH, and talking to other mages in my guild this water one tends to go for about the same. So 800g outlay purely for Ritual of Refreshment is freaking unbelievable.

Way to go Blizzard. On my server there are literally none to be found in the AH, I've asked trade channel several times too. There's no high price to even complain about, there just aren't any available. It was quite embarrassing to tell my raid group that I didn't have the table yet last night. What's a mage to do?

I am one lucky and happy lvl 63 Mage. On my second run through Ramparts to attempt to get my Crystalfire Staff, Tome of Conjure Water IX dropped. The only part of my luck that sucks right now is getting the Crystalfire Staff. I did another run on that same day and still did not get it.

Yes I realize none of you who do this care what anyone thinks of you. But on the off chance there is a price gouger out there who has intelligence I have this to say:

Anyone who charges outrageous prices like 200+g for these Tomes has NO RIGHT WHATSOEVER to ask a mage for free food or water ever again. Granted most of the pricks who do this don't even have the balls to try to sell it on their main (knowing rightfully they'll end up on the blacklist of every intelligent mage out there). If I had my way though Blizzard would put a flag on your account letting every mage in the game know you're not to be given ANY service for less than 50g for your greed. You reap what you sow...

So this thing dropped off second boss (well, we did demon second), Ramparts. Mage in party, we all pass to him, out of the kindness in our hearts.
Next day I group with the same mage, same instance - strangely, it dropped again, off some trash mob. He claims he did not have it, and everyone passes but me. I rolled need like the mage, but he wins. Party almost boots me for rolling need, and ignores my plea to boot the mage for a replace.
He denied all knowledge of me and his previous book.
I ask his guild the names of his alts, and find one of these books up for sale under one of those names.
Blizz doesn't wanna listen, so Thott, use your magical compendium powers and make this unique.
Long story short, as a warrior, I'm not paying for food conjures again, unless it's a mage I know.

I'm a mage and I definitely NEVER did and NEVER will charge ANYONE for water. In parties, I give it out for free, and unless someone comes up to me, opens a trade window first and then says "water", I'll give it to random people as well. Goes for food too. However, I must also agree that the price on this thing is ridicilous atm. You can say "it's just a skill" as many times as you want, this is the most expensive skill atm. No wonder though, the TBC is still new and so is the item, it's like that with all new things, all you mages should know this. So here's how it works: I first get my flying mount which I actually require for instances, and then I'll either go grinding or buy this. Until then, I'm afraid me and my party members will have to stick with lvl60 water.

I got lucky and found both as drops when I was doing various quests. The water dropped in an instance and my guild was more excited about it than I was :P Once I hit 70 I tried to eat it and I got the same message about it not being availble to me. I had the banker targeted when it gave me the message. Once I escaped out and had no target I was able to use the book no problem.

A lot of the points some of the guys are making is the water doesn't really benefit us as much as it does everyone else and it's very stupid to charge an insane amount for this tome and then expect mages to keep making you free water. It will be a very long time before you get 200g back for selling water. Like you said...gold is plentiful in Outland, so people just need to drop the price a bit and stop being greedy when there are more important things to spend your gold on.

I'm an enchanter as well as mage. When crusader was still big, I had no problem getting a very large tip from people when I preformed it for them even when they had the mats. Why should I get a 7g tip for clicking a button? I paid 250g for the enchant itself and around 100 for the rod to use the enchant. Thus, I get money for clicking a button; I had earned it. If people are charging 200+ gold for a simple water spell and I buy it, I have earned yet another right to gain a tip for clicking a button.

Shields go for peanuts and the best ones are BoP anyway. This should be a standard spell for all mages, but blizz find it necessary to screw us on it. Mages can't function without water, and not having this almost doubles our grinding time.

Would have preferred if they had made it a quest like the old DM water, at least we have a better chance of actually getting this by putting in a bit of work, instead of having to rely on good 'ol Blizz's crappy random drop.

According to Blizzard, the job of the mage is threefold:
1) dps
2) crowd control
3) party support (portals/food/water)

If such a large part of our job is water/food, then why is this a world drop? Mages are not the high DPS class BECAUSE we have the other jobs to perform.

How many other classes have to find their end game abilities via a world drop with a LOW drop rate? Food is the same way. Come on Blizzard- what are you thinking?

And yes: If you charge me an outrageous fee so I can learn this spell (or Conjure Food VIII), then you shouldn't expect me to give you the water/food for free.

For you people complaining about mages charging for water/food/portals, consider this...
Do you ask a rogue to pick a lock for free? Do you expect an enchanter, blacksmith, leatherworker, etc. to make things for you for free if you supply the mats?
Most of you don't. You give that person a tip. And those of you that don't tip should be on every ignore list in the game.
Personally, I make free food/water/portals for any guildy or friend. I frequently teleport to where a friend is just to make portals to get them somewhere else (And for those that don't know it, teleporting and portals require reagents that a mage has to BUY). But after the Sunday morning that I had 6 complete strangers wsp me in 3 minutes for free stuff, I started charging simply because at that point, I was just a vending machine and couldn't even play the game.
So for all of you complaining about mages charging for their services, tell you what... Go farm or buy these items and GIVE them to a mage (And if that mage is a complete stranger, you just made their day). That mage shouldn't charge you for that item. But, if you're planning on sticking it in the AH for some unreasonable amount of money, don't complain when a complete stranger expects you to pay them instead of giving you something for free.
Just a thought...

Every class has some specila abilty rogues can open stuff, mages make food/water, and druids can fly. Why is only one class supposed to be the #$%^&*!s when every other class can do the same thing but they actually get money... I think losing mana is alot worse then lvling your lockpicking once...btw MAGES ROCK

I remember a mage friend in my guild got 2 of these at AH for for me and him. When we were in shadow labs and a lock asked us for water we said "Thats 20s each stack plz." I picked this up on a greed roll in Mechanar from the last boss if I recall correctly, don't think it was a trash mob. On Misha, my auctioneer has seen it 8x at AH and suggested buyout at 171g. Of course my initial reaction was cha-ching cuz I hadn't thought it through...

The only time I ask mages for water is if I'm questing or instancing with them, and I always bring 60 of my own purified draneic water - I just try not to ask.

I'm going to check with the 70 mage in my guild, and if he doesn't need it, will pass it over to my 64 mage guildie so he has it right when he turns 70.

wow Cyfre that probably the most @#$%^&* comment here on thott (and that is really saying a lot). Say we go by your philosophy, be !@#$%^&s and charge ^&*! that normaly should go for 25g down. Why are you #$%^&ing that mages are charging for water and food? Most mages charge 1g down and give at least 2 stacks of water. You know you could just buy draniec water for 50s for 5 waters, because you know, no mage will ever give you water again.

And btw, why bring up those books that locks have to buy for pets? I never been a group where someones health and mana regeneration was dependent on your imp or succubus. So have fun being alone on the server buddy

Just bought this off a Rogue for 42g thru trade channel on Silvermoon(Horde). I am only 65 so in the bank it sits for now. cant wait to eat it.

Ports i whip up for free too. whats the big deal? the hardest part is explaining to people that they cant use it since my group is full. Rune of Portals cost 18s. Kill one mob anywhere in outlands and you get one. DONT BE SO CHEAP!

my mage makes the water and the food for my group. i also turn enemies into harmless pigs till the others are ready to fight, and when they are I DEAL MORE DAMAGE THAN ANYONE. At the end i zip people all around the world.

I charge if it is some random person that messages me when I'm questing. If I'm in an instance though I'm more than willing to give free food/water because it speeds it along and we are all working together. Just don't expect a handout.

We work just as hard and have to pay for all the same stuff. So...why can't we get a brake? lol one time i was in a group and the priest whispers me "hey can u make me some water" so i make him 2 stacks and he whispers me saying "can i have like 5 more stacks" im like dude 2 stacks is enough just dont waste it cause i myself had more mana then him and dont even need 2 stacks of water in 1 instance so unless he wants to follow me around while i grind giving me stam/spirit/and shadow resist buffs im not gonna waste my time making him that much water when hes probably not gonna use 3 stacks of it before he logs so it is just a waste of time

What a laugh! The other day, I had a really bad day, and was in the mood for roasting all that moved. So, at the end of this day, just to make it perfect, I went to Manatombs...
Our priest asked for water, in a less pollite way - "Mage, water plz!" Well. *sigh* I had seen worse that day, so I just made her 2 stacks of water. - But she actually had the nerve to ask me to make her 12 stacks in total. - I asked her, what the hell she would do with 12 stacks..? And a little hesitating, she answered, "well, tonight I am going to do an instance with some friends. And I just want to make sure everyone's got water. - 2 stacks for each, and 2 for me at this run. That's 12...". I told her that was madness. No way I would spend half an hour on that! - Unless she paid me 20s a stack. - Response?
- "20 SILVER PER STACK? You're out of your mind... - You're a real #$%^&!"
So I made her an other offer:
"We can't all be as lucky as you, Mother Theresa. But then let your friends come to me everytime they run out, and I shall make them another stack of water, for the price of their buffs."
From that moment she stopped healing me... Hmm... Very adult behavior, huh?
Of course she was then kicked from the team, and we finished the instance with another healer.

Later in the evening, I got an invite for Manatombs again. Turns out, that it was her with her friends... And guess who knew the other 3 in the party VERY well? (2 of them in real-life). - And guess who was suddenly in a really bad mood? Hahaah! Holy Priestess my arse!

ALL THIS TROUBLE! - Just because she expected me to dedicate half an hour for making HER some items, so SHE would deliver it to HER friends, and SHE would get credit for free water and all...

But ive just dinged lvl 70 on my BELF mage and the tome for water cost 300g bit and 400gold BO and i say omfg, a mage have to learn these b4 they are able to make the refreshment table and i used to play warlock on another server and i did the /who mage and asked polite if they were kind enough to make me some water and food and i would even pay for it if they wanted me to, but i think its very very greedy to ask 400g for it and then afterwards have the nerve to ask a mage to make them water or food, and in groups ppl aint asking .. they kinda demand it.. give me some water

ok so how come some classes have to either get a bit of luck with drops, or pay excessive amounts of gold just to learn a skill while other classes can just go to their trainer and get every skill available to their level? i know for a fact that when a rogue hits 70 he gets all the skills from his trianer. yet a mage has to farm this, arcane brilliance, tome of food. fair? i think not

I have read most of the comments and I gotta agree with alot of the people here.

Being a mage, people just don't realise that NOT all mages come equiped with a refreshment table.

It first needs to be obtained by luck with farming or in most cases bought from the auction house with sky high prices.

The prices on my server were 200+ for each book. I thought that was absolutly ludacris so I decided to try farm it. Neither book ever dropped for me.

Each group I got with there was ALWAYS people demanding a table. When I explained to them I can't make the table they act like i've just made their day that much harder.

This one guy even had the nerve to *sigh at me and request a different mage. There was nothing wrong with my gear or ability to perform...just because I could'nt make a table it sounds insane but it's reality.

Today I have just bought the book to learn how to conjure food and I had to pay 100 gold. (Cheapest price I saw) I believe ill have to pay a similar price for the water...but for now what bugs me alot is that
not one single person is ever going to know that I spent almost 200 of my farmed gold to make it possible for them to have FREE fuken food and water.

I never get tipped for my service, and 70% of the time people don't give a royal @#$% to politly ask for one.

Anyways I do hope blizzard changes this because at the moment I think this is rediculous.

I got this as a drop on my druid. But on my mage. I had to pay about 100g. My server doesnt seem to ask for water/food much. I'm more frustrated with anytime I port someone, it seems the lowbies tip more than the t6 raiders. A guy in 7/8 t6 got a shatt port and didn't tip at all =(

Bought it today on Spinebreaker - 150 g BO...:/ from now on I will ask money for stack of water or food (conjure food tome - 80 g, also bought today). In my oppinion its average prices in Spinebreaker AH, ofc If u get lucky like some ppl that posted above, u can get both for like below 100g. But in this case u can wait ages to see prices like that....
