In addition to the
Rollercoaster
and new
balloon pets
coming to the Darkmoon Faire in 8.1.5, there's a new creepy accessory--hats made from severed fish heads! The
Cabeza de escamagrana cortada
and
Cabeza de aletazur cortada
can be fished up from the waters surrounding the Faire in the upcoming patch.
Thanks to
Vanion
for reporting on these fish earlier today!
These fish took us roughly 30 casts with maxed-out Fishing to catch. Each item lasts for one day in your bag and 60 minutes when worn. They didn't grant any special buffs, but they're spooky enough in their current form.
Old God hints are everywhere in Battle for Azeroth...and our first glimpse of N'Zoth was through a fish. In
Warbringers: Azshara
, Azshara stares down at a dying fish as she struggles to hold her magical barrier together. The fish gasps for breath, and then, as if possessed by N'Zoth--the fish starts whispering to Azshara. Not a minute later, their roles are reversed (with a neat bit of cinematography echoing the visuals of
Masa sinuosa
), as the barrier comes crashing down and Azshara now finds herself out of her element, consumed by the ocean.
As she sinks to the bottom of the ocean, another unassuming fish comes along to offer her a deal. This fish later shifts forms, revealing the power of N'Zoth to Azshara. At the end of the BlizzCon 2018 "What's Next" panel, this same fish briefly flickered on the screen at the very end of the presentation.
The Old Gods also have several interesting whispers about fish:
N'Zoth in 8.1.5: The fish shall feast...
Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron: The fish know all the secrets. They know the cold. They know the dark.
We've also written extensively about the
odd similarities between the Old Gods and the Darkmoon Faire
, covering the Black Forest, blinking eyeball logo, Inky Black Potion from the Shadowlands, and more. It stands to reason that the Faire would throw in more creepy nods to the Old Gods, even if in jest. The flavor text of the severed heads reads "Something strange is happening in the waters surrounding Darkmoon Island..." and we'd agree--something
is
strange about the Faire, especially since it moved to an undisclosed-location in Cataclysm. We don't know if the Darkmoon Faire is even in Azeroth proper, since we have to take a special portal to reach it, which only spawns one week a month! Who knows what sorts of magical waters we're fishing from.
The choice of the fish colors is also striking--bright blue and red, the colors of the Alliance and Horde. This is an odd choice for fish, as the Darkmoon Faire's colors are usually purple, gold, and green. Down by the docks,
Galissa Solrocío
displays some normal-sized purple and green fish--no oversized blue or red fish heads.
How did these gigantic severed fish heads make their way to the waters surrounding the Darkmoon Faire? We've fished up many strange things from the Faire before, like
Raya aguaoscura
and
Gorro de pesca de la Luna Negra
, but not dead fish before! Certainly not oversized ones...
The Darkmoon Faire may be a fun world event providing players with carnival rides, pets, and toys, but like the
Brawler's Guild in 8.1.5
, disturbing hints may lurk beneath the cheery facade of these holidays.
