In Patch 8.1.5, crafters unlock new Tools of the Trade questlines, rewarding special profession items! Today we are reviewing the Inscription questline coming in Patch 8.1.5, which rewards the
Cálamo de pluma sanguino de Lana'thel
. This item allows you to create Blood Contracts that summon creatures to fight outdoors for you.
Inscription Questline
In
Sacar sangre
, you learn about the magical and disturbing Blood Contracts. You're eager to sign your name in blood to learn how to make the contracts:
Hey, <name>! I have something exciting to tell you about, but you must keep a secret. Just between us scribes.
<Zooey gives you a wink and pulls out a large tome.>
This is the Bloodbound Ledger. Inscribing your name in it allows you to learn how to craft "blood contracts" which can hurt a little bit, but are absolutely worth it!
I currently know one of them and I get so excited when I use it 'cause it... well, you'll see.
So whaddya say? Interested?
You next find a Blood Scribe in
Giro a Drust
. Kronah is a Tortollan willing to train both Alliance and Horde scribes in Drustvar.
Dere are blood scribe masters all over de place who'll teach you what you need to know. De first master I'd recommend seeking out is Kronah.
She's a bit... eccentric to say de least. One of de few tortollan who've experienced a thing or two.
She's de one who taught me de blood contract I know how to invoke!
She prefers to hang out at de Smuggler's Cove on de western coast of Drustvar.
Kronah then has several tasks and challenges for you. In
Escritos de sacrificio
, you use a special scroll to heal the wildlife.
<As you peer inside the tome, you find a verse appear, glowing bright red.>
"For blood to bond, one strikes a deal,
A sacrifce which will appeal.
Seek out the lame, and never yield,
For in return, you shall be healed."
<As you finish reading the verse, you notice that a scroll has appeared in your hand.
Written across the top it's titled, "Writ of Sacrifice". Various runes, unknown to you, appear on the rest of the scroll. Yet, there's no explanation as to what to do with the scroll...>
Completing this quest unlocks
Contrato de sangre: Sacrificio
.
You also pick up
Según las normas
, a book you suspect is related to your trial:
As you open the book, you stare at a blank page, waiting for something to happen.
Instinctively you flip to the next page only to find it blank as well. Perhaps your trial awaits you further into the book?
The entire book is blank, and Kronah says that you must start writing your story in it. The book comes to life and starts to write:
As my hand got close to the book, it began to write all on its own...
At the moment my pen touched the empty parchment, something began to stir within the pages.
I could feel my very essence being pulled into the book.
My vision began to fade.
You wake up and find yourself in
The Prison of Ink
. You appear to be trapped in a book, as your surroundings all have a brown parchment tint.
...and as it refocused I found myself in a strange chamber.
Suddenly a voice filled my mind, and in a lyrical tone it recited a poem.
"Intermingled here within.
Beware the jet, collect the crimson,
And your blood-bound slayer shall be arisen."
As I entered the chamber, a larger version of the creatures I'd been fighting stood before me. Perhaps this was the trial I was here to complete.
The viscous ones were beginning to be quite the nuisance.
These sludges were the key to the riddle. And so far, I was finding what I needed.
After you collect 12 Sanguine Ink from the globules in the prison, the voice continues. You activate the runes and summon a blood beast.
Once I had collected enough ink, I felt a strange pull towards the back of the prison.
As I stepped into the room, I saw four runes spread out on the floor. This must be what the ink was for.
The ritual complete, I saw a creature coalesce before my eyes.
It finished forming and cried out with its newfound life.
It caught my eyes and peered inside my mind, filling it with the knowledge I needed to summon it.
My trial complete, I finished the last stroke of my story and returned to the material realm.
As you return from the trial, you are now worthy to learn
.
Kronah has now taught is everything, but there are more-dangerous contracts for us to learn. For the quest
Líneas en la arena
, we seek out the Sethrak Veriss in Vol'dun.
This was all I had to offer you, young scribe. But your journey is not yet at an end.
If you're up for some traveling, and interested in some of the deadlier blood contracts, you're going to have to travel to Zandalar.
Once there, seek out a sethrak by the name of Veriss in an area known as Vol'dun.
<Kronah grabs an odd-looking jar and opens it. The foulest odor you've ever smelled emanates from it and you reel in disgust.>
Pickled crocolisk eggs are my favorite. Would you like some?
Veriss sends you into the Temple of Sethrallis dungeon for
Templo de Sethraliss: cobrar un favor
, to retrieve the Tome of Oblivion, a book left behind when the Devoted had to flee.
When the Faithless came to power, we Devoted fled our sacred temple and took shelter here.
However, in the midst of our exodus, many of us were forced to abandon some of our belongings.
I myself left a tome that is used to learn the Oblivion contract. If you wish to proceed with the trials, you must retrieve that book for me, <name>.
I trust you won't disappoint me.
We then begin our trials for Veriss, in the quest
Roce con la muerte
<As you open the book, a sudden chill comes over you. You shake the sensation off as you read the verse.>
"A fatal bargain, in blood is struck.
One inks their pledge,
with strokes of luck.
Stay true your lines,
keep still your breath,
Lest you stray too far,
and summon death."
<As you finish reading the incantation, a quill appears next to the book.
For this trial, we turn into a quill and must trace circular runes on a piece of parchment, each one more elaborate than the past one. Stepping outside the lines causes us to take damage. Finishing this trial rewards
Contrato de sangre: Olvido
.
For the other trial,
Cerco de protección
, we collect bones from pirates and mill them into a fine powder to create Ossien ink.
<As you open the book, you turn each page and see portraits of champions standing alongside a large beast.
Eventually you come to a blank portrait, and touch the page. Runes begin to appear in an ancient language, and quickly translate into words you can read.>
"The creature within, a guardian of men,
A mixture of blood
and of bone inked with pen.
The blood from the scribe,
the bone from the land,
Milled to perfection,
and signed by the hand."
For passing this challenge, we learn the
Contrato de sangre: Guardia de sangre
, which can summon a volatile creature that may turn on us at low health.
We've now learned how to craft the four contracts, but we need a special quill to invoke them. In
El último verso
, you will complete your final trial.
It appears you are finished here, <name>. Thank you again for getting my book back.
But between you and I, this was the easy part. Just wait till you meet the grandmaster.
If you haven't noticed already, you'll need a special quill to invoke those contracts. And he'll be the one who shows you how to craft it.
His name is Miju and he lives out on an island off the southern coast of Zuldazar. Good luck, <name>!
Miju is surprised you learned all four contracts, but sets up the trial in
Una prueba de plumas
:
The recipe you're after, young one, is that of the Sanguine Feather Quill of Lana'thel. I...
<Miju motions to a pile of stuff.>
Am the only other person I know of who has one... err... somewhere. But be warned, this trial may be your undoing!
I shall have to invoke all four contracts against you. You must defeat each of the creatures, and from each one learn the rune needed to carve into your quill.
Once you've learned all four runes, your trial shall be completed.
You then fight the avatar of each contract in a special arena. For passing the trial, you're given
Cálamo de pluma sanguino de Lana'thel
.
Blood Magic
Blood Magic is generally taboo in Azeroth, so it's disturbing that we're embracing it, without hesitation, to learn a few new recipes.
In
Ofensivamente defensivo
we learn that the Zandalari have mostly stayed away from Blood Magic:
Let me guess, Loti had you kill any trolls dat smelled of blood magic, yes? Well, dat is barely a half measure.
See, blood magic comes from de old ways, and our people have only been giving in to its allure since de walls fell on our northern border.
Come, we will go for a little ride and patrol de border to Nazmir. Dat is where all dese bad ideas are coming from.
Under King Rastakhan's rule, Blood Magic was forbidden (
Prácticas prohibidas
):
You come at a good time, $p. I have need of a weapon such as yourself.
Yazma's spies say dere are blood cultists in our ranks. King Rastakhan has charged me with tracking down any trolls guilty of practicing blood magic and purging dem.
Take dis totem, route out those with de stench of blood magic, and cleanse dem from dis holy place.
When you are done, tell dat lazy Hexlord Raal to get off his perch and help keep dis place secure.
The Blood Trolls are one of the major enemy forces in Battle for Azeroth, serving G'huun in
Uldir
and corrupting the creatures around them into Blood Beasts. Adventurers who aid the Zandalari especially should be leery of using Blood Magic, as they've seen the destruction it can cause in Nazmir.
Even Alliance adventurers have experienced the power of blood magic in Icecrown citadel, first fighting the blood princes and then
Reina de Sangre Lana'thel
, the namesake of the
Cálamo de pluma sanguino de Lana'thel
. We're not sure if the quill belongs to her, as the flavor text says, "It was never known if Lana'thel was the orignal designer of the quill, or merely the inspiration behind its design," but the similarities are clear.
As we forge ahead with this questline, seemingly oblivious to the risks of blood magic, we're reminded again of how we constantly place our desire for power over other concerns in BFA. In the Blacksmithing Tools of the Trade questline, for example, we upset Therazane by learning how to craft a magical hammer, and then we have the option to betray the blacksmith who taught it to us, jeopardizing his life.
Cálamo de pluma sanguino de Lana'thel
With the
Cálamo de pluma sanguino de Lana'thel
, you can create four types of Blood Contracts which summon creatures to protect you outdoors. All of these creatures have extremely bloody effects:
Contrato de sangre: Sacrificio
: Summons an
Avatar de sacrificio
stag to heal by your side. So much blood.
Contrato de sangre: Guardia de sangre
: Summons an
Avatar del guardia de sangre
which acts like a tank.
Contrato de sangre: Derramamiento de sangre
: Summons an
Avatar de derramamiento de sangre
which attacks in melee range.
Contrato de sangre: Olvido
: Summons an
Avatar de olvido
which attacks as ranged DPS.
Each Blood Contract takes 10
Tinta escarlata
, 5
Tinta verdosa
, and 5
Agua destilada
to craft.
You will also need
