The Shattering (Patch 4.0.3a) Hits Azeroth: It's The End of the World as We Know It
The day has finally come: Azeroth has been torn asunder, and now it's time to pick up the pieces!
Blizzard has been hinting at it by preparing patches on the PTR for release, and Bashiok was even
toying with forum posters last night
, but we have official confirmation this morning:
It is time, friends, for the world to shatter.
For the rest of the day this post will act as your homepage and guided tour to all the content in patch 4.0.3a. Any time new content is posted or added, you'll be able to find it on this page—so if you run into anyone who's wandering around Azeroth after the servers come up going "OMG WHAT HAPPENED," just link them here!
Remember, with the addition of new content like this, it's more important than ever to
download and run the
Wowhead Client
.
With these major changes in "The Shattering", we want to get new info into the database as fast as possible!

Elemental Boss Portals Open Until Further Notice
Bashiok just announced an "Elemental Portal Fire Sale" on the official forums:
All four elemental portals are open until further notice.
Elemental Invasion Guide
If you're looking to grab some last minute gear from
Kai'ju Gahz'rilla
,
Kronprinzessin Theradras
,
Höchster Botschafter Flammenschlag
or
Prinz Sarsarun
, now's the time to do it!
Due to your valiant efforts in protecting the key invasion cities, the four boss portals are now 'permanently' open. If you need anything from inside the portals, or maybe you dropped your keys in there, now is the time to go through and get them.
Initial reports from shaman in the area that were available at time of publishing suggest that this is hinting at something far more sinister. One such shaman, a one 'Krunkmaster' from Proudmoore was quoted as saying "This is hinting at something far more sinister."
Chilling!
You'll want to stay tuned to the World of Warcraft community site for the latest developments on this and other events.

Blizzard developer blog: "Why Does Blizzard Hate Healers?"
Ghostcrawler has just posted the first "Developer Blog" on the new battle.net WoW site, and it deals with a topic close to my heart: healing.
There's been a lot of concern lately about the effect Cataclysm is going to have on healing performance, and the changes Blizzard is making. When you're just looking at spell changes (like
ours
) it's easy to get the impression that everything else is staying the same, and healing is getting worse. This doesn't take into account the whole picture, though—and it's important to read blogs like these to get the full concept of what the changes are going to
feel
like in Cataclysm.
The full text is included after the break, but let me give you a quick summary:
Healers in Wrath had way too much mana.
This doesn't seem like a bad thing, but in practice it meant that most healers pretty much never had to worry about mana, ever—which makes healing boring and one-dimensional. It meant you never had to choose between your
fast, inefficient heal
and your
slower, efficient heal
. Healing became a game of "spam your biggest heal over and over", and th

News Roundup: Best Buy dev chat, what to expect in 4.0.3a, old forums locked, "Darkmoon Faire" site
Since I was out for most of this afternoon, and poor

"Darkmoon Faire" Cataclysm Contest Site
Blizzard has just rolled a brand new "Battlecry" style contest site, this one called
Darkmoon Faire!
There are several new contests, some fun toys, and a WoW-themed personality test, and you can unlock new artwork and videos (for your faction) by sharing the content on

Around the Site: Guild Advancement/Perks, Reforging in Weight Scales
We've made a few little additions around the site in the last few days that we wanted to draw your attention to—but perhaps were not large enough to warrant their own posts. :)
Guild Advancement in Cataclysm
We've recently updated our
Cataclysm Guide
(you know, that thing you see when you click the little fiery maelstrom at the top of the page there) with a bunch of new info!
We've added
all
the
guild perks

We've added a table of all the
guild rewards
available in Cataclysm, along with their achievement and reputation requirements.
Go check them on the Cataclysm Guide's

ZAM opens GuildFans.com
Once again I am breaking the unspoken "Never post about any games that are not WoW" rule, but the guys over at ZAM asked me to mention this and they have some pretty impressive content going up over there.
ZAM has just rolled out
GuildFans.com
, a new website dedicated to Guild Wars 2. The crew maintaining the site is actually made up of some faces you may recognize—specifically
Jeahr, Inde and Kattar
, the old admins from Guild Wars Guru and GW2 Guru. ZAM's really lucky to get them, they run a tight ship.
There's also a bunch of really cool content up there, including a
"design-a-skill" contest
that's actually being judged by the GW2 design team, and and
exclusive interview
with one of the lead designers.
If GW2 isn't your thing, no harm done—but if it is, this is something I'd keep an eye on.

New Forums Going Up This Wednesday
Bashiok has just posted on the official forums to let us know that they'll be transitioning to the new forums on Wednesday!
The old forums will be converted to "Read-Only" status, and all future posts will go onto the new community site we mentioned
a little while ago.
This Wednesday, November 17 these forums will be put into a read-only state. At that time we'll be inviting all posters to fully migrate to the new World of Warcraft community site and forums.
http://www.battle.net/wow
These forums will remain read-only until the end of the month, after which they and all of their posts will be removed ... forever! If you have any posts, information, stickies, etc. that you'd like to keep you'll want to have finished saving it before then.
We've all enjoyed the past few years on these forums, and look forward to creating many more with you on the new community site. See you there!

Wowhead User Survey—Win an Xbox/PS3/Wii
So one of the most common complaints we get—or any website gets, for that matter—is about the ads. We don't like it when annoying, obnoxious, irrelevant ads are showing our pages. We don't like "Shoot the Duck" any more than you do.
We want you to be seeing ads for products you actually care about: awesome games, movies, computer equipment, and so on. We have a pretty good idea what sort of ads you want to see. But in order to get those ads up on the site, we need to prove it!
In light of this fact, we've put this little survey together! It asks a bunch of questions about what games you like to play, what movies you like to watch, what sort of gear you like to buy, and so on—so we can prove to our advertisers that our audience knows their gear. And as a thank you for filling it out, we're giving everybody who participates a chance to win
their choice of an Xbox 360, PS3, or a Wii.
So click on through! It takes about 5 minutes to fill out. Wowhead shows fewer annoying ads, and maybe you walk away with a new game console. What do you say?
