The Nexus is an ancient ice fortress found in the center of Coldarra, in Northrend's Borean Tundra. It is a column of magical energy surrounded by levitating earth-covered rings with ice caves underneath.
Originally the exclusive domain of Malygos, the Aspect of the Blue Dragonflight, the Nexus has expanded considerably as other blue dragons choose to live near their leader and partake of his wisdom. The Nexus is an extensive series of caves and tunnels that riddles Coldarra. Every space has been carved and smoothed so that it seems more like a castle buried in ice than a natural formation. The walls are ice and crystal, and cast rainbows of light from small glowing gems set in strategic locations; most flat surfaces are carved to show dragons in various activities. The floors are solid stone, polished glass-smooth and mirror-bright. No stairs exist — in many places an archway opens onto a vast open chamber and the dragons simply fly across to another portal placed somewhere on the other side. The outermost chambers are dotted with lifelike ice statues — the statues are the remains of uninvited guests, transformed by dragon magic and placed here as a warning. The caves themselves are fascinating, and many have unusual magical properties, some of the rooms may actually change

I think Heroic Version of this instance has 5 bosses. There is a new boss in between the entrance and the trash way to Grand Magus Telestra. The boss is in a trash pull containing him and 2 adds at his sides. He had 3 to 4 times the health of his adds and dropped a lvl 80 blue BoP item.
Anyone can confirm his name ?

With the exception of plate DPS shoulders and two rogue weapons, this instance drops nothing but caster gear. This makes sense - the Blue Dragonsflight are the guardians of magic.

Required level as given here is wrong. You can get in at lvl69 and, following the logic of every other instance, I imagine you only need to be level 66.

A problem cropped up with looting the book for Have they no Shame? It looted fine 4 times, but wouldn't loot for the 5th. This was resolved by abandoning the quest and getting a party member to share it. I would not expect it to be a way to get the quest if you hadn't already got it prior to entering the instance.

As far as heroics go, this is by far the easiest. Think of it as the H-SP of wotlk except it has 5 bosses. Definitely worth doing every day for quick and easy badges/rep.

Notes for Heroic:
Group Comp: Tanks: Any will do. Given that one boss is literally nothing but magic damage, and another is half n' half, and a third spawns mobs that do nothing but magic damage DK's might be better. I wouldn't know personally, but I had little issue tanking it on my druid.
DPS: at least one CC. Repeatedly wrangling groups of four mobs can be hard on your healers. Just remember to have at least one CC (I recommend a shaman just because hex doesn't break easily from damage)
Healers: Priests, shaman or druids. A lot of the bosses favor multi-target DPS. Paladins, though perfectly capable, will find this to be a difficult instance. Especially given the last boss demanding mobility.
Wing 1 (frost / flower): Keep moving. The flowers wont die (just like on normal: they'll just shell up and then respawn later) but otherwise the trash to the first boss is pretty inconsequential. When you fight the first boss make sure everyone is up on his platform. You don't want to pull more of those dumb flowers. Actual boss fight was pretty simple tank and spank.
Wing 2 (Arcane rift): kill the rifts! They'll spawn extra mobs which just give you headaches. Kill the blue dragonflight casters first as well, they'll cast annoying heals. Boss is pretty much the same. DPS him, when he spawns rifts kill those too. Only change is that he'll spawn two varieties- one kind makes him invulnerable. Only way to tell the difference (other than physically attacking the boss) is that he'll give a different raid warning (saying something about channeling himself into it) than the normal kind. Just because of the sheer amount of AoE flying around, and the number of targets to kill this is a real endurance fight.
Wing 3 (mage hunters): Its pretty much the same. Casters think they're hunters. Dogs have mana burn and silence. Boss is pretty much the same, but when she splits into three targets its a real pain this time around. Since there's a lot of target splitting this is another endurance fight.
Wing 4 (frozen opposite faction); Once again, this is almost identical to normal with one change; the faction commander is an actual boss. I don't know about what the horde will face, but alliance is this:
PULL THE BOSS BACK, WAY BACK.
Other than being a heavy hitter for melee he'll do a heavy whirlwind (and it does its damage fast, no running away) and a fear. This means that ranged DPS need to keep their distance. If you fear into frozen mobs they WILL aggro!
Wing 5: last boss! Other than a trash clear or two its just back to the main "lobby" of the instance. Pull boss at will. Its the same fight almost, remember to keep moving to keep the DoT from building up. At about 20% the boss frenzies. Now, this part hurts like a mother. She hits for 92% more damage 30% faster. I clocked a 10,000 damage regular hit during that. This can be a pretty frustrating fight but if you keep at it there's no reason you wont down her.

Had a lot of trouble tanking the last boss (Keri) for some reason. Without getting critted he hits me (22k armor) for 7-9k dmg a hit when he hits frenzy, which the healer simply cannot keep me up from... I suppose the best way is store your shield block (or make sure its ready at the point of frenzy ) and put up your shield wall as well..that way you will have 10 seconds of "very little" dps :) I didn't get to try this out, though, since group split after the first try.

Just a small bit of information, you can kill the
Chaotic Rift's
at a distance and not agro the surrounding mobs. Gives the healer a much easier healing experience in those areas.

Wolone's short guide for people who know how to play
The Nexus: The Nexus
These are the highlights of the instance, it's easy enough to where you don't really need a long explanation unless you suck.
I recommend for speed having at least 4 good players in the group.
Fewer melee dps makes this run easier and easier.
Follow the trail to the left along the blue path
Where the mobs are stuck in ice you can AOE pull 5-6 or more depending on group
FF the healers for easier fights
1st boss, mage telestra summons adds(@50%ish) and tosses you in the air.
Kill purple blue then red (or whatever, they have dif. colors but if you're colorblind its hard to see)
Chaotic rifts can be range killed.
2nd boss, anomalus pretty easy fight. every little bit he becomes immune (lol why cant I hit him) and summons a chaos rift(kill these)
the rifts summons non-elite mobs(lol pushback on healers casting)
in the tree part watch out for the pats
healers first (duh)
3rd boss ormorok is really easy just dont stand in the ice
Note: does a spell reflect be sure to lol as your magic dps kills itself(no i will not decurse you)
after him look around and go up the little hill and drop down(2 pats below)
Look at mini map and work towards the entrance
Last boss only 2 ppl get hurt, the tank and the person that is "ice trapped"
Tank can jump to avoid stacking debuff or with all range can run around room in circle
You can cast a spell and the run a yard, cast a spell and then run a yard, going back and for forth for the duration of the fight
Don't forget your shards!
The better the group, the easier a time you will have.
A good group should take 30minutes with no wipes.
A decent group should take 45minutes with no wipes.
Really there should be no wipes, unless you're in a bad group (or are the bad player)
You know you have a bad warlock in your group when:
He's asked to summon and says 'no shards needed bag room'
Player stats:
DPS ~700 (500 min, 1100 is good)
Tank ~ 15k hp, 33% dodge or high (50%)+ DR
Healer~800sp 8k min mana
I did this with 757sp, 10k mp, and 470/230mp5 and NEVER ran out of mana, was really easy to heal

Death Knight Tanking Tips
After running the nexus and UK on heroic quite a few times for getting badges, I sort of got into the mechanic for each boss fight. So here are some small tips for Death Knight tanks running nexus. Note that while I present mostly frost DK tactics, some things can apply to other spec DK tanks. I merely mention frost tactics because my DK just happens to be frost.
From the start of the instance, I usually head through the left-most hallway (aka left of Keristraza). This leads into one of the dragonkin patrol (which you can easily take out), and I head left into the room full of frozen mobs.
Tip #1: Always agro and death grip the rangers, while making sure you keep AOE threat (
howling blast
,
death and decay
,
blood boil
) on any other mobs in the group. The reason for this is merely just to bring the ranger into melee range, and also to avoid having to run towards the ranger and possibly agroing any other frozen mobs and/or the boss.
Tip #2: When fighting Commander Stoutbeard (or Kolurg if you're alliance), make sure you kite him back towards the "entrance" of the frozen mob section. Again make sure you keep AOE threat on the other mobs but make sure the fight happens near the entrance, and let your party know. The main reason again here is because the mob fears, you definitely don't want to be feared into other frozen mobs, agroing them and possibly wiping your party. Focus your attacks on him, while the party attacks his friends. Make sure you have the threat on the adds by keeping up death and decay (which I will refer to from now on as
D&D
), and by using deathchill
(
DC
)
+ howling blast
(
HB
)
to seal the deal. Obviously if you have a shaman, they can drop tremor totem to avoid being feared. When he casts whirlwind, BACK AWAY (not too far, but just away from the melee range of the boss). During this time, pop icebound fortitude
(IBF)
and unbreakable armor
(UBA)
(always try to use both as a combo).
After this major fight, I usually finish up the rest of the frozen mobs and head up the ramp towards Grand magus telestra. For the four mob regions, make sure you focus deeps on the casters, and then continue on to the stewards. Watch out for the pat that comes in while you take the sets of mobs closest to the boss. Now onto the grand magus.
Tip #1: When she does the
gravity well technique
and pulls all your party around the room, keep doing damage and maintain your threat. Try to cast death coil (if you have the runic power) and definitely keep up icy touch. Once she finishes taking your party on the rollercoaster ride from hell you won't have to worry about threat loss.
Tip #2: When she splits into her multiple personalities, always maintain that order of purple, blue, orange (or Blue purple orange) but make sure you have agro on all of them. I've wiped my party once because I just focused all of my attacks on the arcane form (purple), and they agro'd the other 2 versions.

as soon as she splits. Use your
DC
+
HB
combo here if need be. THE BIGGEST ADVANTAGE HERE is that you can silence these forms. While the main boss is of course unsilencable (not a real word I know), use your Mind Freeze and your Strangulates here. Don't waste MF, cast it when you notice the boss casting Polymorph or time stop. Use strangulate on the frost mob to prevent her from casting any of her nasty spells. Of course if you have CC in your group, it helps and you should augment their abilities with your silences.
Optional Tip #3: I say optional here because it really depends on the dps in your group. I remember running with a low-ish dps party and we struggled a little in this area. If you have a high dps group, this boss is cakewalk so long as you keep the threat on you. However sometimes you may have a few member thats are underperforming (under 1000 dps for example). Therefore this is party-dependent. Basically what happened was out of desperation I cast army of the dead after the unsplit. This helped take away threat for a second, let me breathe (as I was running out of hp and the healer was oom), and helped add to dps. They don't seem to survive for long so I wouldn't trust my life wth them, but they managed to take some of the heat. Again, this is optional.
After this boss, I head towards anomalus. Obviously for the mobs on the way,
D&D
,
HB
and keep agro on all mobs. As always take out the rifts first. Then comes the big annoying boss that has wiped my low-ish dps group many times: Anomalus.
Tip #1: Always kite the boss somewhat towards the rifts. This is because you will be helping your group out by taking some of the flak from the possible adds that spawn.
Tip #2: When you see a rift (especially the one that causes him to go invulnerable), cast
D&D
underneath it. This allows you to take the flak while your group focuses on taking the rift out. You don't want your group to wipe because the adds were hitting them.
Tip #3: When there are 2 rifts up (one fake, one causing him to go invul.)
D&D
on one of them, and as adds come out from the other, use your
HB
to keep threat on you.
Tip #4: This falls under general threat but whenever you need to seal the deal for generating threat, always use rune strike and obliterate. The combo you want is Icy Touch, Plague strike, howling blast, rune strike, obliterate.

of course before you start the combo or afterwards and you will never lose anomalus (or any boss for that matter) to your party members.
Those are the most important tips. Ormorok the tree-shaper is basically a tank and spank so be sure to use your cycle of attacks to maintain agro and spank his spiky ass. For the last boss, keep her facing 90 degrees away from the rest of your group, so they can attack her from the sides. Oh and make sure to keep jumping as you attack her.

Never depend on army for the bosses, never open a boss fight with army, only use it in dire straits.
USE MIND FREEZE AND STRANGULATE WHENEVER POSSIBLE. I cannot express this enough, they're such valuable tools and often times I used to neglect them until I really saw their potential. They can bring certain mobs and boss forms down to pathetic whacking low dps melee mobs.
Help out your healer by popping
UBA
and
IBF
. They have low cooldowns, so spam them whenever possible. Save for boss fights.

So for anyone wondering as proto pali this entire instance was soloable. I know these days it can be hard to get a group for a normal instance, and i wanted some quests finished for rep and gave it a try.
Picked up quests "Have They No Shame?", "Postponing the Inevitable", "Prisoner of War" and "Quickening" before i began.
I threw on two pieces of icebane gear, just to get some extra frost protection (although i probably didnt need it). Picked up the quests (listed by some helpful souls above), and headed in clearing some trash and moving to the research journal for "Have They No Shame" quest. Trash was never really a problem at anypoint, some of the Azure Scale-Binders did some healing of each other and themselves, which was a pain, but you can beat through that, just takes a little longer. Took on Grand Magus Telestra first. This is where the frost-resist gear probably helped some, let the gear take care of frost, put on fire-resist aura, and when she split into three, took out the arcane version of her first. Simple fight, other than that, normal buffs on (blessing of sanct BoS), (improved righteous fury), (seal of light SoL), always keep up sacred shield and pop holy shield as soon as it wears off. Threw down judgement of light/wisdom (JoL or JoW) as i needed, popped divine plea to start off the fight for some good mana return. Just rotated righteous hammer, excorcism, shield of righteousness and avenger's shield. Throw in a consecration every now and then and hammer of wrath when it becomes avaliable. Never really had to heal.
Next Anomalus was a bit more challenging. Same setup as above, but with devotion aura, same cycle, but everytime he summons a chaotic rift, switch your smash to the rift and knock it down. Anomalus will take damage from your multihits as you do this anyway. Just knock down the rifts and focus back on anomalus, dont worry about what comes through they are just fuel for the (BoS) mana battery and die with hammer of the righteous anyway. SoL and JoL should be plenty to keep health up, remember divine plea and pop a JoW every now and then. Someone in previous postings suggested clearing all the trash between Anomalus and a crystalline frayer and kiting the frayer from the treeshaper zone to kill at Anomalus. When they die they give a buff (usually +4% health +2% mana every 2 seconds), very useful. I didn't have to do this, but it is a great idea. If you want to do this, make sure to not kill Ormorok the Tree-Shaper first, because they all die when he goes down.
After he is dead, you can activate the 'Interdimensional Refabricator' at the end of his platform for quest "Postponing the Inevitable".
Next Ormorok the Tree-Shaper, was reasonably easy too. Just as soon as you see the ice spikes form, move off of them. They knock you up in the air, and youll take fall damage, nothing too major but it would add up if it happens too much. He also does a spell reflect with 4 charges. I more or less ignored it, SoL and JoL healed right through it. At 25% health he enrages for 100% damage buff, then its time to add up the damage a bit and speed up, but with 'ardent defender' in your talent pool, he will be dead before you get too low.
The Crystaline Protectors in this area drop the 'arcane splinters' for the quest "Quickening".
Last Keristrasza. She wasnt too hard, i'd say Anomalus was more difficult than she was. Still had my 2 frost resist pieces of armor on, and went in to say hello. Clear the trash around her if there is any, and activate the orbs around her. Same grind as with all the other bosses, same rotation, keep sacred shield and holy shield up at all times. I kept it with SoL and JoL the whole time to keep heals high, she does hit hard, for me main damage was her melee. Divine plea and SoB kep my mana high, but i did pop a mana pot near the end. Just keep moving or jumping to keep the 'intense cold' debuffs off.
When she dies you will complete last nexus quest "Prisoner of War".
Had LoH and Bubble ready if i needed it, but never used it. But obviously use when needed.
My gear isnt great, its mostly rep/ah blues with some crafted purples, some gems and enchants.
Always enjoy reading about people's solo strategy for lower end difficult dungeons, since they provide an opportunity to test out your class' strength and weaknesses while exploring perhaps previously unexplored content. With other's advice here on wowhead ive solod all the pre-bc dungeons and a good part of MC. All the outland dungeons on normal and a good portion of Karazhan. I really recommend all you 80s out there to give a it go with your class, and post here any usefull strats on how you did it. Good fun. Off to Utgarde keep, and if someone hasnt posted on it already, ill let you know how it goes.

Solo'd as a blood DK in naxx/uld gear. Not too many problems, use runic weapon and hysteria on bosses, death strike to heal and save IBF for the enrages on golem dude and dragon lady. Also used IBF/AMS on the pull before anomalus cause you get spiked pretty bad at the start of it. Used blood presence the whole time, just regular dps gear. Used army of the dead to start off Keristrasza so that I'd still be pretty high HP for the enrage.
Basically just do what you would do if you were DPSing a heroic. Not very profitable though, took about 23 minutes and made 60ish gold. Shattered Halls is better.

done it 1hr ago for the first time with the first time crew and have to say that it is pretty much basics and intuition on the first run-first boss is kinda hardish for low geared healers if they dont have HOT heals (like mine priest) but can be managable...all others are easy except the last one who has some nasty spells---all in all much exp and nice drops for caster in my run--i've got 5194exp per kill of the big tree so i've got over 250k exp in a run (which was not full)---and a quick remark--isnt it funny that we had nexus crystals b4 the nexus instance?:)

There are a fantastic selection of quests to do in this dungeon providing very good gear to players fresh to Northrend. It is worth going to the Transitus Shield and doing all the quest chains to start them and they can then be easily completed in a single run.
