Dunno that anyone else cares enough about it, but it makes me pretty sad thinking about Draenosh becoming an undead minion of Arthas, going from being the son of the hordes greatest hero and could be commander, to being made a mockery of who he was. Also, that he was an uncorrupted orc, makes it even more sad.
The first fight I can think of I'll feel down about taking part in. I just wish there could be some better resolve at the end of it, like seeing his spirit freed.

Before you blame me off alliance favoritism, remember that he was the leader off the alliance for a decent time, a personal friend of the king (and a good friend may I say, he even raised anduin as his own son while varian was absent)
We also know that he has sofar resisted all attempts off the lich king to dominate him, which would make him a much better candidate then both Tirion (who is untested in this aspect) and mograine who was completely under controll of the lich king at times
Also both the ebon blade and the argent crusade need a leader
It won't also be anyone 'living' because I think the good 'undead' would not let them give up everything while they don't have much to give up anyway. Why curse someone when others are already cursed, because thats what being the lich king will be like, a cursed life allone in the frozen hell that is northrend, using all your mental capabilities to keep the most dangerous force known on azeroth under your controll, taking all blame for what the undead might and will do (it is likely some 'pocket organizations' will still try to be scourge reborn and go killing people
And which undead we have?
Sylvanas: none of the alliance or neutral organizations would ever allow her to wield that power. she would use it, and become eventually a sort of lich king of her own, she has to much anger, the temptation would be to big.
Darion: perhaps, however the knights of the ebon blade will need a leader. And it is unclear if he would accept it, seeing as he failed to withstand the controll once, he might fear he would fail once more
Saurfang: he dies, permanently
Arthas/Ner'zhul redeemed: almost no chanse of that happening, since Ner'zhul's spirit was conquered and devoured by Arthas's spirit, who also separated from his own humanity, there is very little chanse of that happening
And if it would happen It is almost certain Arthas would end his own life overcome with what he has done, killing everyone he loved and cared about, ending the kingdom he so frantically sought to protect

Saurfang the Younger shares his father's appetite. At the Wrath Gate, Saurfang the Younger was feeling a bit peckish when Arthas appeared, wielding what appeared to Saurfang the Younger to be a sword-shaped buffet of souls, and so Saurfang the Younger allowed himself to be killed. He will emerge from Frostmourne once he has eaten his fill. He will then declare himself the new Lich King, order the Scourge to drop dead, and recruit Arthas as his scullery boy. His father will then whack him upside the head for taking so long.

We got our butts handed to us the first time we did this, the second time we got overwhelmed by BP stacking and couldn't out DPS his healing, the third time we killed him without a single death and got the
achievement

One thing worth noting, the Mark CANNOT be removed by shield, ice block, or even death. If you die you are dead, don't battle rezz or reincarnate you will die again near instantly and heal him again.
This is a DPS roflstomp, the faster you can do this the better. 2 tank, as few healer as you can manage and beasts for DPS, had a rogue pull

Although there is encounter information in the general section, personal experiences may be useful for people looking for strategies or making their own. This is what we learned from our 10-man attempts.
1) You need two tanks to taunt off one another whenever
Rune of Blood
goes up.
2) You will need ranged DPS with snaring/kiting capacity.
3) You might want everyone to stay 12 yards apart to minimize
Blood Nova
. Maybe.
There are no phases to this fight, but
Mark of the Fallen Champion
acts as a soft enrage. Basically, each time Saurfang gets 100 Blood Power, he casts this permanent debuff on someone in the raid. Anyone with this debuff will need to be assigned a specific healer, as they will take ~3500-4500 damage every 2-3 seconds (based on your tanks' avoidance) until the boss is killed. If a marked person dies, they heal Saurfang for 5% of his maximum HP, and this will essentially wipe the raid (because you also lose their DPS).
Do not for any reason reincarnate, battle rez, or use a Soulstone during this encounter if you have the debuff.
The debuff does NOT go away after death, and you will more than likely die again, instantaneously, and heal the boss a second time.
Since
Mark of the Fallen Champion
is basically the only reason why you would wipe in this encounter, minimizing the number of Marks being cast is your number one priority. And the number one cause of increasing his Blood Power is when the Blood Beasts get to melee people (it increases his Blood Power by 3 per hit). We had most of our ranged stand near the teleporter in a straight line from the boss, with a hunter dropping Frost Traps just below the stairs, and a mage and warlock aggroing the Blood Beasts when they spawned. Having ranged assigned to get initial aggro on the left or right Blood Beasts works best, since if they are not picked up immediately they can aggro to melee or the tanks either by chance or from incidental AoE like Consecration. If you have a Holy paladin, having them stand near the teleporter and heal with Righteous Fury active can be useful for ensuring the Beasts go to them first. The Beasts can and should be snared at all times, and they can be stunned and/or rooted. Tanks can also taunt them to give the ranged groups a few seconds of breathing room - this is particularly useful coming from the tank with
Rune of Blood
, since they won't be able to do much else.
While Saurfang will get extra Blood Power from
Blood Nova
if you stack all the ranged and healers together, it does not deal a whole lot of damage by itself and he only casts it occasionally. Even if he were to get 5-6 Blood Power per cast, that's two melee hits by the Beasts who may have aggro'd someone off to the side and out of a straight line through a Frost Trap. I recommend just having all the ranged stack.
Finally, at 30% he will go into an undispellable Frenzy that increases his attack speed by 30%. Tankwise it is negligible, but the real danger is the fact that those people with
Mark of the Fallen Champion
will be taking 30% more 3500-4500 damage procs. Although they have
I've Gone and Made a Mess
as an achievement, I don't know how anyone could possibly heal through the Frenzy with three or more Marks active. We couldn't be certain, but it is also possible he is immune to taunting once he enters the Frenzy. In any case, save Heroism/Bloodlust for this phase for sure.
P.S. You can reset the boss by dragging him to the Gunship. This will save a lot of repair bills learning the encounter.

Lich King isnt real final boss in ICC, Saurfang is. Lich King only figures as final boss, because of terroristic attacks, but in fact, he and all scourge fiends are nothing but Surfang´s bodygurads!

Having done this on both 10- and 25-man, here's my view of the fight:
1st of all, props to Blizz for a challenging and fun fight. Moving on...
Have all the range spread at least 12 yards apart. Crucial on 25-man, not so much on 10-man though, depending on gear. Since the /range command only seems to give 11 yards as the closest, you have to use that and then move "a little more" :).
Make sure all the melee don't drop lasting AoEs (DnD, consec etc) unless they're absolutely sure they will expire before Blood Beasts are summoned (on our clears, the summon occurred approximately 8 seconds after the timer on DBM expired; will probably get more accurate as more data is collected and newer versions emerge).
Make sure the ranged are on top form as they absolutely must pick up the Blood Beasts when they spawn and then kite them across frost traps, earthbind totems etc. Stuns can also be used on the adds to help. You can even go so far as getting a dps to taunt and kite (I, ret pally, did this on our 10-man attempt a few times during the fight) but I wouldn't recommend it for 25-man. You really can't afford adds to be hitting people, especially on 25-man.
On 10-man this fight is relatively easy for well-geared people (245 ilvl avg or above) who know the tactics. But on 25-man, it will really test the group's coordination, spatial awareness and reaction times, especially the healers for getting those marks under control.
Regarding bloodlust, after several tries, we decided the best point to pop it was 15% for the last burn phase (25-man), ideally immediately after a set of Blood Beasts have been killed.
When marks start appearing, a holy paladin gives them a beacon and ensures that they refresh it to ensure the marked person is constantly receiving heals. Other paladins can help out by using Hand of Protection and Hand of Sacrifice. Raid walls (Divine Protection + Divine Sacrifice talented) are saved for the last 15% burn phase when bloodlust is popped as the faster healing and reduced raid damage will compensate for Saurfang's frenzy (30% increased attack speed) and the number of marks in the raid at this point. If there are 3-4 marks at 15%, then the fight is on course, if there are more than 4, then it's gonna be a close one. If anyone with the mark dies, you may as well wipe it up and try again. Divine Intervention is a godsend for pallies btw :).
One more thing, during the burn phase, DO NOT get tempted to ignore the adds and try to zerg the last few percent of the boss' health. This will almost certainly cause him to quickly get another mark off, kill someone because the healers are already occupied and unprepared for it, and therefore wipe the raid. It happened to us once, so I'm telling you now -- don't do it :). Just continue to handle any beasts that spawn (1 or 2 more waves after hitting 15% with sufficient dps), spam heal, pop CDs and burn the boss. He will go down in the end.
As for the loot, I can't recall exactly what dropped on 10-man (wednesday's kill), but I think the staff and tank bracers were among the spoils. On 25-man, we had leather agi wrists and 2 264 tier tokens, in this case, hunter/warr/shammy and priest/pally/lock dropped. Sadly my DKP wasn't enough for the token, but gz to the holydin that got em (but can't use them for at least another week due to badge limitations lol/aww).
Final note: we got the achievement on 10-man mode on our group's 1st attempt (I've Gone and Made a Mess). On 25-man we had a bunch of wipes and then on our kill, everyone was alive (w/ no deaths during), although we did get 6-7 marks, so there's room for improvement. We did have a lot of ranged though, which made positioning tricky. Make sure to balance the melee and ranged :).

4th boss in Icecrown Citadel, and the final encounter released on Dec. 8th 2009 on live realms.
The following strategy is based on the observations of a Melee DPS and pertains specifically to the 10 man encounter. I have not had the privilege to engage this boss on 25 player mode yet.

Tactically simple, yet numerically difficult fight. First major gear check in Icecrown. It is also important to note that this fight is heavily back-loaded, meaning the last 5-10% of the boss's HP is going to be the real moment of truth, because he will have as many as three Marks of the Fallen Champion up at that point.
Bloodlust should be used off the bat because it gives your ranged a chance to go all out on Saurfang before they need to worry about adds.
EDIT: Bloodlust may be saved for the Frenzy if your raid wishes.
Simply position the boss where he stands and have ranged/healers spread out around the platform.
Melee DPS will devote 100% of their effort towards burning the boss. Ranged need to kite and kill the blood beasts which periodically spawn around Saurfang. Earthbind Totem and Frost Trap are amazing for this. The beasts can also be stunned. Because we had a hunter as one of our ranged, we were also able to use misdirect to ensure a beast never got onto a healer.
Healers need to watch for Boiling Blood and
especially
Mark of the Fallen Champion. It is almost a guaranteed wipe if the marked player dies, as this will heal Saurfang significantly (5% of total HP). This coupled with Saurfang's fluctuating tank damage makes for a hectic encounter for healers.

EDIT: Important! I forgot to add that Mark of the Fallen Champion persists through death! Do not under any circumstances attempt to battle res a marked target, the damage will tick instantaneously and heal the boss for an additional 5%.
EDIT: 12/18/09 Today we were able to get the "I've Gone and Made a Mess" achievement (10 man) which was made incredibly easy by using a Disc priest. He doesn't gain blood power unless he actually deals damage, meaning a disc priest perma-bubbling our tank and our add kiters doing a stellar job resulted in him only having one mark up when he died.

A method my guild has used in the 25 man encounter is to let the first 2-3 people who get the mark die. He gains blood power MUCH slower than he would of had we left the mark up. The downside is he heals for 10 - 15 percent but we bring in extra dps over healers to compensate and not healing the mark definately helps out the healers we do have.

Don't use bloodlust or heroism straight away. Sarufang begins to cast Frenzy at 30% and you will want to pop BL/Hero at that point so that you do not get too many marks inbetween 30-15% (you should take him down to 15).
Between 15-0% after a BL/Hero @ 30% you may loose 1-2 players to marks but you should be able to dps through the healing taken.

If you are druid tanking this, make sure you remove your Glyph of Maul, or you are going to have some serious problems with bloodbeasts aggroing you and generating tons of runic power which means more marks which means....you get the idea.
Just don't forget to put a new one back in when the fight is over.

Nobody seems to have mentioned it so far, so here a few observations from the 10man:
- He has an 8 minute enrage timer, after which he screams "I have become DEATH!" and wipes your raid. When that happens, you will be unable to kill him, as he still heals with every dead player.
- As has been commented, Battle Ressurection / Ankh should
not
be used for players who have the mark. While it was possible for us to get a (healing) Priest with the mark back and not instantly die again, he was unbuffed and with low mana pretty much 100% busy healing only himself and once he ran out of mana again, he died a second time. So dead players with marks should stay down. Don't waste a combat rez.
- Unless your DPS is pretty high (we were in a twink group), you cannot afford to have 3 healers at this fight in 10man. Pretty high means above 5K on the fight, a value a melee should easily obtain but the ranged are probably busying themselves with the beasts and have much less on Saurfang. BL if you have it at the start boosts time ranged is exclusively on Saurfang as well. If your healers have no problem once the frenzy is active (at 30% I believe) better use BL at the start, otherwise keep it for the burn at the end.
- A discipline priest shielding often can reduce the amount of blood power severly (we were up to 30% Saurfang's HP prior to his first mark this way and with proper beast handling)

Here was our 10 man strategy for those who are interested and may be running similar 10 man comps. Below was our raid comp for that night:
Pally tank, feral tank, holy pally, resto shaman, resto druid, ret pally, rogue, hunter, ele shaman, blood (dps) DK.
We found that before Saurfang casts a mark on anyone, the healing is
very easy
, at least comparatively, and after a few wipes, we tried running 2 tanks and 2 healers, switching the druid to moonkin form. The pally would keep both tanks up while the shaman healed anyone else taking raid damage.
When the blood beasts came out, we had the DK taunt the left-spawning beast and he immediately cast chains of ice on it, reapplying as necessary. He would do any incremental ranged damage on it, but for the most part was kiting it at full health away from the raid. Meanwhile, the ele shaman (myself), immediately cast frost shock on the right-spawning beast, ensuring that I had control of it over healers since frost shock generates a ton of threat. All the ranged dps switched to this target, while I kept FrS up and/or earthbind root down (the boomkin would typhoon if things got dicey). Once killed, we all switched to the DK's beast. Saurfang essentially gained no blood power during this phase, and it allowed the two tanks to continue their business, and left the other melee dps to stay on the boss.
We kept ranged and healers spread out in a semi-circle around Saurfang to mitigate blood nova; ranged aligned on the right side and the healers in the center. We kept the left side mostly clear for free kiting room for the DK. Unfortunately, if blood nova was cast on one of the melee we pretty much let it go through and allowed Saurfang to gain blood power. We felt that effectively containing the blood beasts would in some way offset the amount of power Saurfang gains during blood nova.
In most attempts, we were able to get to his Frenzy phase with nobody or just one person to have the mark. We blew bloodlust as soon as the next pair of blood beasts were kited and killed, and then focused hard on the boss. We also learned the hard way that its best
not to pop Army of the Dead
during this phase (or at all during this fight really), because the ghouls screw up aggro and force beasts to hit them, giving Saurfang even more blood power. Knowing that healing would be difficult in phase 2 with only 2 healers, we saved pally cooldowns like Hand of Protection and Hand of Sacrifice for this time. When he went down we only lost 1 person, and having the extra dps really helped speed up the process.

HoP those with Boiling blood, it will remove the debuff and deny the boss the supply (we used HoP on a rotation between us palas when it hit healers or the mage to not gimp dps)
BL at 20% and burn him down. we tried the kite tactic a coupel of times, but this one worked the best for us.

As a disc priest I found that my shields seem to prevent him from gaining blood power. I can't confirm this, but he seemed to build it up much slower when I shielded tanks as much as possible, as well as targets with Blood Boil and Mark of the Fallen Champion. When I focused on this we were successful in downing him in 10-man, and there were only 2 marks up when he died.
Obviously shadow and holy priests can shield as well, but it won't be as effective.

some tips which may help..
1) have your tank have more avoidance for this fight, avoiding/parrying generate no BP for saurfang
2) have your dps-es dps adds down ASAP. dead adds generate no BP.
3) have a disc priest keep PW:S up on targets with boiling blood as well as melee dps-es to prevent blood nova from generating BP.
4) have the OT ready to taunt whenever rune of blood is up on its targeted tank.
5) use your snares/stun on the adds. hammer of justice, frost trap, slow, chain of ice etc. most will work and help tremendously with the kiting. ( cyclone/shackles undead etc CC won't work. )
6) the adds now take full damage from shadow spell, according to the buff's tool tip.
Decreases damage taken from AoE effects by 95%, from diseases by 70%,
and from Shadow spells by 100%.
will be an easy encounter if you can efficiently manage his BP and have enough dps to finish the encounter before 3 marks.

If you are struggling with him on 10 man, what worked for us last night was actually reducing the number of healers, and trading for more DPS. On 10-man, the healing is fairly trivial until that first mark is applied. With an extra DPS, we had him down well below 50% when it hit. The other thing that occurred was that the marked individual immediately died (a DPS), which I think actually
helped
us finish him off. The 5% heal is fairly insignificant if you consider how exponentially more difficult the fight becomes after that. However, this does not work if the target is a healer or tank.

Does anyone know if disarm effects still work on DB Saurfang? I know that on the PTR, if you were careful, you could disarm and then dismantle him when he got over 75 blood power for reduced damage on the tanks.

I haven't seen it written down here somewhere yet, but a good tactic for 25man is to let the first one or two people who get Mark of the Fallen Champion die as soon as possible.

For every person alive with Mark of the Fallen Champion on him, Saurfang gets one extra blood point. With 1 mark up, he gets 2 bloodpoints instead of 1 on each tick, with 2 marks up he gets 3 points each tick, etc. That's why marks keep coming in faster and faster during the fight, until your healers can't keep up anymore.
If you let the first one or two people who get marked die, the following marks will come in on normal rate (like the start of the fight).
When we figured this out, the fight became incredibly easy and we got the achievement
I've Gone and Made a Mess (25 player)
without any hassle and the 10 player version an hour or so later.

It goes against what most guides say, but we handle this fight a little differently on 10 man
We have a melee heavy raid team, made up of
Tankadin (Me) Prot Warrior, Rogue, Ret Pala, DK, Mage, Ele Shaman, Holy Pala, Holy Priest, Tree (yes we have 3 healers)
Rather than kiting the blood beasts I pick them both up as soon as they spawn, and all dps (including both tanks) focus them down ASAFP. They may be immune to AOE but not to multi target abilities (Hammer of the righteous, seal of command, divine storm for example).
While they gift blood power to the boss while they are on me, my avoidance is still around 40-45% with Icecrown radiance, and they die so quickly the boss gets very little BP from them.
While we have some 245 gear from ToTC25/badges, most of our raiders are in mostly 232 gear and we still made a mess the second time we downed him.
EDIT:
Seems having a Ret Pala made a big difference with this strat, on our latest attempt we had a Fury warrior instead, and the adds seemed to die a lot slower (leading to him charging much faster)

Very easy to do with a Disc Priest, if posible get 2. Shield target (absorb) won't generate Blood power, so if u can absorb as many incomming damage as posible, he will not be able to get alot of blood power. We did it, first the priest was holy, we wiped a few times, each time we had like 4 marks at the end, priest went to disc and we killed him before the first mark, also mage went to frost, so the add was easier to kite, but the disc priest is a key element in this fight, if you're having trouble with it.

We did it yesterday in 10m but were having trouble with the strats detailed here.
We only had 2 ranged (both locks) and they had trouble kiting and dealing with the adds.
What we did was that our pally tank would stun one of the adds using hammer of justice, and the 4 melee burned it down immediately (6 seconds is more than enough if all the melee switch as it spawns, and the rogue threw in a kidney shot once when stun was about to expire).
The 2 locks just had to take care of one of the adds, and that made it easy for them.
Once we tried that strat, we 1-shot the boss. He actually cast his first mark when he was at 8% life, so yeah :)
Having melee dps switch to burn a stunned add works great in 10m if you have a melee heavy group, as they only lose 5 seconds and can resume hitting the boss.

Priest is a mandatory healer for this fight. We tried last week without one & spent two hours wiping. We must have run it a dozen times with a well geared group, 9 players with togc and one10-toc level gear. Got him down to 1-200k four or five times. The 100k time we had 5 marks spread around the party (some incredible heals that time), but couldn't punch it through. The previous week, with a priest present the same group was surprised at "how easy" the encounter was.
Priests work so well because they cast power-word-shield. This prevents damage. Each attack they prevent is one less point of "energy", slowing down the marks and moving the encounter into easy mode. Any 25 man group that is having difficulty should increase the number of priests and make sure that priests are chain casting PWS on the tanks.
Bottom line: bring 1 priest for 10-man, 3 for 25-man. Focus on chain-casting PWS on the tanks and anyone kiting the adds.
When pugging I wouldn't join a group that doesn't have a priest healing the main tanks.

Man I tell you Saurfang Jr. Really lives up to his name. After a few wipes I had realized that this is truely the hardest of the bosses for

. Why you may ask? it aggros the blood beasts. And why is this bad? Cause everytime thoses guys hit someone Saurfang gains Blood Power? And why could this be important? Cause he will reach 100 faster and cast Mark of the Fallen Champion more coincidently. And this will occur in chains. After realizing this mistake I truely realized that tanks truely can mean the difference between victory and a wipe! Also if things go a little awry, have someone that can rez go to the gunship. It will reset him and you can rez other party members. You've been warned!

Our group had a pretty good strategy for dealing with the beasts on 10 man. The important classes for this strat:
2 hunters
1 boomkin (at least)
We tanked him at the top of the stairs in the middle so that the beasts spawned at either side of him on top of the stairs. Our hunters were positioned at either side of him near the edges, with their frost traps placed at the bottom of the stairs at near where the beasts spawn. As soon as the beasts spawn our hunters used Distracting Shot on the beast OPPOSITE of their position. This often allowed enough time to kill the beasts before they got out of the frost traps.
If one of the beasts did escape the frost traps then our boomkin would Typhoon them back behind the traps. Worked great.
This strategy requires hunters who can kite and a boomkin who can aim typhoon well. We got through with only 1 Mark getting off using this Strat. Good Luck!

If you have a shadow priest in the raid they can make this fight much easier. The general strat we started using in 10 man is to have melee pile on one of the blood beasts and kill it pdq meanwhile I (shadow priest) draw the second one onto me casting mind flay and mind flay only to slow him. The other range drops him quick and if he gets too close one of the tanks taunts him back towards the melee.
Using this strat we easily took down the orc boy and got the achievement.

Downed him on 10 man last night what we did was had an arcane mage slow one of the beasts, 2 hunters dropping frost traps to slow them and a destro lock stunning them. While they burned the beasts down when they poped me (ret pally) and kitty druid stayed on boss whole time unless beast was on a tank in which i stunned it. For heals we had a disc priest and a resto druid. First mark hit the kitty druid so he just jumped off the edge, and we just jept burning the boss. He only got one mark off in the entire fight.
Main things:
Tank taunt when they have rune
Kill beasts quickly and dont let them hit anyone
When you have mark just die, its not much HP to burn
If you can slow the beasts, do so

did using below lineup/strat earlier this week and downed it.
2 x tank ( pally + warrior )
2 x heal ( holy pally + disc priest )
3 x melee DPS ( DK, pally, rogue )

I was boomkin and helped with dps-ing and kiting the adds with typhoon.
The DK would Chain of ice one of the adds while the ranged dps down the the other non chained add.
The hunter/shaman would leave earthbind totem/frost trap to help kite the adds.
The tank did not aoe so as not to aggro the adds when it spawned.
I ( boomkin ) would typhoon the adds once either Chain of ice finishes or if the add is near melee range of any ranged dps-es.
Usually the 2 adds would die before giving any BP to saurfang and still have time to DPS the boss.
We would also bloodlust at start of the fight to maximize the effect of bloodlust with no blood beast's interference.
and
the one of the most important element of this 2 heal strat is "/pray mark dps" and sacrifice the marked target instead of trying to keep him/her up.
the amount of dps the sacrificial lamb did while still alive should be more than enough to compensate the ~440k saurfang healed on 10m. and letting the marked target die will delay the time before second mark quite significantly as each tick = 1 BP for saurfang and frenzy makes it worst.
Did it last week with the same strat with slight difference in class line up below and managed to down it
2 x tank ( pally/warrior )
2 x heal ( shaman/disc priest )
3 x melee dps ( dk/pally/warrior )
3 x ranged dps ( boomkin/hunter/arcane mage )

On 25man, my raid looked something like this.
We had 3 resto druids, a disc priest, and a holy paladin.
We had 2 prot paladins.
We had 2 shadow priests, 1 elemental shaman (me), 3 destruction warlocks, 1 demonology warlock, 2 rogues, 1 feral druid, 2 fury warriors, 1 enhancement shaman, 2 arcane mages, 1 ret paladin, 1 survival hunter, and 1 unholy deathknight.
Due to the fact that we didn't have a moonkin - for the typhoon knockback, we stuck one of our shadow priests on the boss and made him Mind Sear about 5 seconds before the beasts were about to come out, in addition to the hunter misdirecting to him and also dropping a trap at the bottom of the stairs. The priest stood as far back as range allowed, in the direction of the teleporter, and I stood inbetween. I didn't use Glyph of Thunderstorm, and I also replaced my Glyph of Lightning Bolt with a Glyph of Thunder, which reduced the CD on Thunderstorm by 10 seconds, leaving it at 35 seconds. The beasts spawn roughly every 35 seconds, so when they would come running through the trap towards our priest, I was able to knock them back and give ranged actual time to kill them.
Additionally, due to the great amounts of threat that they generate, we had our three resto druids spread around the back center. They stood as far back as possible, with one on the left of the priest, behind the priest, and to the right of the priest. This allowed for any of the beasts that were attracted to them instead of the priest to still get dragged through the frost trap from the hunter, and kept them grouped up for Thunderstorm.
As a further note, we initially tried knocking them off the back edge behind the portal - we'd come in on the second day after a soft reset and the boat wasn't there. This didn't work. The mobs now hit an invisible wall and do not plummet to some sort of death below.

As a mage,

works great on the Blood Beasts. In our 10-man group, we had myself, 2 warlocks and a boomkin as the ranged dps. I used this macro to target, mark as skull and slow the closest Blood Beast, which we burnt down quick:

/cast Slow
The boomkin used Entangling Roots on the non-marked one until we got the skull down, then I simply click the macro again to mark and slow the second one, burning it down quickly and switching back to Saurfang. We only had one mark up (and luckily it was on the main tank) when he died.

Paladins, If your group is considering letting someone die to avoid Saurfang getting the runic power instead try asking a Warlock to soulstone you at the start of the fight and simply divine intervene anyone who gets the mark and instead of them dieing (and healing saurfang) they simply sit in the bubble for another 3 minutes hopefully cheating death long enough for you to achieve a kill!
In short:
1. Be a paladin
2. Get a soulstone/druid res ready
3. Have divine intervene reagents.
4. Wait for the mark of the fallen champion to be placed on a raid member
5. Cast Divine intervetion on said raid member
6. Come back to life and continue your job

If you've got a warrior tank and are having trouble kiting the blood beasts, you can play ping-pong with the beasts between the ranged and the warrior.
Because the warrior will have vig on his co-tank, he doesn't need to worry about the Taunt cd and can happily spam it at anything he wants and still make the Rune of Blood taunts.
If the warrior doesn't have vig on his co-tank, you'd better hope he has his Taunt glyphed, or you're likely to wipe from a resist. Our raid's DK, who was the recipient of my vig for most of the raid, persuaded me not to vig my fellow tank on this fight. A single resist was all it took, and we wiped. I'm not letting myself be persuaded out of it again. ;)

This fight turns out be like most fights really, very straight forward, if you only keep things simple,
We did this last night, after a number of atempts following the many guides that can be found,
But found out that this wud only make the fight more confusing,
So inteed of having the ranged kit the adds we desided to put all of our dps on them the sec they spawn inclueding melee dps, in the 10man bloodbeast have only 100k hp witch can easily be taken out if all dps just focus em down,
Our set was
2 Tanks Pally - Druid
2 Healers. Disco Priest - Druid
1 Ranged Dps Hunter
5 Melee Dps, DK,- RedPally2x - Shaman - Warrior
Simple Tact
Our warrior put 5 stacks of sunder armor, and we blow BL and all dps CDs simply to get a good headstart on taking down his hp this allow us for take him down to 70-75% befor the first adds spawn.
when the adds spawn we toke all our dps of the boss and put them on the adds taking them down in less then 5sec, this only allowed the boss to gain 10-15 bloodpower pr set of adds and we cud get our back on the boss asap,
If done fast enought the few points of bloodpower that the boss gain did not in anyway counter the dps he was taking ad the time, also we used all our dps CDs as soon as the where up,
We took down the boss in 4min 23sec and we only had to suffer 1 mark of the fallen champion.
Hope this helps out abit, Just keep it simple and kill him

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet (Too many comments to wade through), but I thought this was worth mentioning:
My guild was doing this last night on 25. Someone screwed up, and we got a mark REALLY early. Part way through the fight, one of the pugs we had seemed to have disappeared. He was on the gunship, in a cannon. And he wasn't taking damage from the mark he had.
This probably isn't intentional and might be fixed before long. But for now, this seems like a pretty good thing to consider for 25-man. On 10, losing that 1 person is a much higher percentage of the raid that it might not be worth it, but on 25 it's relatively small, and could be worth it to avoid healers from panicking, and to avoid Saurfang from healing.
Edit: We had only had time by our raid schedule for 1 attempt on Saurfang when we got to him, and when we came in on our next raiding night, the ship was gone. So if you're going to rely on this as a strategy, either make sure you get Saurfang down on the same night as the Gunship, or don't finish looting the chest on the Gunship until AFTER defeating Saurfang (As this would presumably keep the Gunship spawned)

Done with two healers: A resto druid and shaman.
All DPS were range. We used a lock with shadowfury, and a balance druid for the typhoon knockback to get the adds, as well as a hunter with a frost trap. Lowest DPS was 4k, highest were about 6k. The only trouble we had was with our healers going OOM.

Not sure if this is listed in the comments yet, but as of tonight, DI doesnt remove the Mark on people at least on 25. Just tried it a few min ago and while it does prevent that person from taking dmg and generating energy for him, it does not remove it, so its not such a grand idea anymore.

The idea of casting DI wasn't to remove the mark, it's to prevent him from healing 5%, (as opposed to letting that person die) -- that's my understanding at least. The downtime from a paladin DI'ing someone, accepting a soulstone rez, and charging back into the fight, is a relatively small hit.

When I was doing this on 25 the other day (Different day than in my previous comment), I got the mark (Which I shouldn't have because I was tanking. It was timing, though. A hunter, trying to use Distracting Shot on a Blood Beast, accidently hit the boss with it. The mark went off right about then, and I got it). We wiped, and when I ran back, I still had the mark when I walked into the instance and for some reason immediately died again.

Piercing Howl works well against the bloodbeasts, dazing both (and this halving their movement speed) for six seconds without drawing threat. I'm a Prot Warrior running a 5 / 15 / 51 build, with one of the Fury points spec'd into Piercing Howl specifically for this fight. I've had to sacrifice a little health, but we're one-shotting him now.

This probably won't work for everyone, but our group kept wiping due to marks, healers going oom, the fight was just taking too long in general. We popped Bloodlust at the start of the fight so that dps could use the time before the first beasts to burn him. We got him below 40% before he popped his first (and only) mark.
We had 3 ranged and 3 melee; a mage and rogue nuked and stunned one blood beast down, while the other two casters and I (warrior tank) just ran the other back and forth with taunts until it died. This strat worked brilliantly after about 4 close attempts trying to bloodlust at his soft enrage.

I have done some experimenting with this boss, and have discovered that AOE's are ok to use even around the beasts. Multi-target spells, or spells that specify a specific number of targets (like Hammer of the Righteous, Heart Strike, or Divine Storm) are bad. Consecration will hit the mob for so little that even with righteous fury up, i dont pull threat on the mobs, it is when i hit my hor that I pull threat on them. Also back this up I have done the saurfang fight with no marks going out, so you know that the beasts are not hitting anyone.

As a further note, we initially tried knocking them off the back edge behind the portal - we'd come in on the second day after a soft reset and the boat wasn't there. This didn't work. The mobs now hit an invisible wall and do not plummet to some sort of death below.
Adds can indeed be knocked off the platform. Tank Saurfang at the left or right edge of the platform, facing the tanks (who have their backs to the railing). A moonkin or someone else with knockback can reliably knock one, and sometimes both, adds off.

Raise Ally'ing a marked player will allow them to dps as a ghoul without the mark.
As for combat tactics, we found our raid performed much better by BL/Hero'ing after the first Bloodbeasts spawned. Our healers didn't find the frenzy to be too bothersome, so we popped it early to get him down farther with no marks up. (I found that when everyone was on a ball without BL our first mark came around 50%, Allowing the player to immediately die would take him up to 55%, so the next mark would come at roughly 15% assuming a dead dps.) With BL we easily got him to 40-45% when our first mark came, allowing us to finally down him AND get the achievement for only one mark.
Raid comp: 2 tanks, rest druid+holy pal, ele shaman, rogue, dk, mage, hunter, moonkin

This fight is currently bugged, as of 3.3.2, at least on 25 man. Saurfang is switched to Hard Mode instead of normal. Raid difficulty doesn't say HM, but he is.
This issue already reported on the forums.

I just wanted to confirm that yes, this is bugged. Not sure if its hardmode, but, you cannot mitigate blood points in ANY way, and he casts boiling blood twice as fast. You WILL get 2 marks. Minimum. Be warned.

I might add, that if you kill him, you still only get loot of the normal loot table. It would also seem that the rest of the instance will remain in hard mode if you do not do this. The Valk's in the spire spawn adds at 3x the rate in this mode, and Stinky/Precious have about ~3.5mil HP, over the ~3.1mil on normal. I have yet to see reports of any of the boss encounters with this bug, but its safe to assume that the affects are the same. Unintentional hard modes, with no rewards, including achievements. Its a bit of a waste. No reports from players that have defeated the Lich King (as of this post, it would seem that no one has yet anyway, WOW), and engaged hard mode directly. I'd assume that there will be bugs there too. Would be a shame to waste your first hardmode kills with normal level armor. (Which stinks, because, essentially, thats what my guild did tonight.)
//edit4?: Ok, after even MORE reading (and recollecting my thoughts from tonights kill), the effects of hardmode include-
- No change in HP.
- Blood boil now generates 5BP, and cannot be completely mitigated, but, can be reduced based on how much of the damage is mitigated. A successful mitigation of all damage through Priest shields yield 1BP.
- Players that get Mark of the Fallen now no longer generate BP each tick.
- Each of Saurfangs successful attacks on the tank, generate 1BP. This can be prevented from a dodge for sure, but parry has yet to be tested.
- Blood Nova will now target melee DPS.
- Melee strikes from the blood beasts now yield 5BP. Have yet to see if victims can be shielded to mitigate BP.
- Blood boil now occurs twice as fast as normal mode.
*UNCONFIRMED*
10m- It would seem that he regained about ~10% of his health after a marked target died (this was not part of our strat).

Stealth buffs during the latest patch were reverted, so his Blood Power generation is more or less back to normal. However, it seems that the change to Mark of the Fallen Champion wasn't reverted. Our discipline priest got the mark at around 50% of 10man, and I didn't notice Saurfang getting Blood Power any quicker like before.
So, in order to encourage people to keep Marked people alive, the fight got a tad easier, as there's no penalty for having a bunch of marks out except for marginally more difficult healing. I haven't logged the fight, so if anyone can confirm, that'd be swell.

Just attempted to kill him on 25 man mode and here are some of my ideas (which were not used, thats why we wiped:)):
-Be sure to stay at least 12 yards from each other. DBM will help you with it. He gains too much blood power with single Blood Nova he does. Its much more important on 25 man.
-Ranged dps should be assigned to adds. If you have, for example, 8 rangeds, there should be 3 teams of 2 dpsers on 3 adds + 2 hunters single kiting and killing one. After one add is killed, rest dps should help to kill other adds before starting to nuke boss. None should have to kite 2 adds at the same time. Hunters should try to have 2 traps up all the time, it possible with good timing.
-Have 1 good single target healer assigned to heal Marks. Discipline Priset or Holy Paladin would be the best. Loss of even 1 ranged dps can provide wipe because of Blood Beasts.
-To melee dps: dont even think about any damn aoe while beasts are up. The most annoying thing is a DK/pally tank with their imba AoE tanking spells (DnD and Consecration) that pull aggro of adds. It seems that 1 pack of Blood Beasts tanked by mr. Pally can give enough Blood Power to Saurfang to place another Mark. This is the most common mistake in this fight.

As all the damage taken in this fight is from the Phisical school, it is a good idea to have your mages cast
Amplify Magic
on your tanks (it's enough at the start so you don't waste time buffing the entire raid) and keep it up throughout the fight, to increase the healing they recieve. Also, as soon as Mark of the Fallen Champion is cast on a raidmember, have him buffed as well, so your healers have an easier time keeping them alive.

I am a pally tank, and on this fight I find it useful to create a mouseover macro for Hammer of Justice, and stun one of the Blood Beasts when they spawn, giving the DPS a bit more time to get the first one down.
/cast Hammer of Justice
This way I don't have to deselect Saurfang, just put your cursor on the beast and press the button.
If you are talented into Improved HoJ you can stun one per summon. Definitely worth the points for this fight.

Do not use the following spells (even once upon warning of coming) if you are attacking the boss as they will hold the beasts to you regardless of the dps used on them (worldoflogs combat log data showing over 40k dps used to no avail against 1 use)

Interesting fact. At least right now, if a hunter pet (I used a devilsaur) tanks a blood beast, that beast does NOT provide blood power. Also, if you are a BM hunter, throw a heal or two on your pet, and your pet should be able to stick around long enough for the Blood Beast to die and yet keep your pet.

The dragons flame is the flame of Alexstrasza? At the end of the wrathgate cinematic the dragons of Wyrmrest temple burned the whole area leaving Bolvar transformed into the hands of the lich king. I think all was supposed to end this way that bolvar becomes the lich king as we will know him in cataclysm as a more fire themed lich king or hopefully he will be chilled while beeing stuck in the frozen throne.

Okay so here is our strategy to down this guy, we did him again last night with NO PROBLEMS at all.
First of all, we had 2 warrior tanks, 1 resto druid, 1 resto shammy, 1 unholy DK, 1 retri paladin, 1 MM hunter, 1 shadow priest, 1 destro lock and 1 arcane mage. ASAP as the adds spawn, lock does shadowfury, then the other ranged DPS burn them down QUICKLY. We did BL after first adds died, and Saurfang died without casting any mark of the fallen champion, because we didn't allow any of our members to get hit by the blood beasts.

Just did him on ICC 25 after doing the Gunship on Heroic, but setting it to Normal for Saurfang. Beyond just the BP bug, there also seems to be a bug where he randomly becomes Immune to Taunts. Was tanking him like normal, he got below 30% health and Enraged, and when it came time for me to taunt him off the other Tank, it said "Immune", i tried a Mocking Blow to get him on me, thinking that my Taunt somehow missed, and it once again said Immune. This basically ended up with him regaining too much health, and us wiping. I've had OTs say he was Immune to their taunts in ICC 10 too before, without any Hard Mode being activated.

Well... i killed him yesterday on hc mode after 2 hours of wiping... it's hard fight, u have no time for faults, everyone in raid have to do everything right or u'll wipe...;p (wiping at 2-4% hurts~~)

and... how we finally do it? well... we turned him at start so dpsers could atack him from behind... on my left hand was ret pala & rogue and on my right side was dk... when adds spawned left add was stuned (1st add ret pala, 2nd me, 3rd ret pala ect), when he relased dk chained him... rogue stuned him all the time aslo... Right add was downed asap (sometimes druid rooted him too), next left add was killed ... noone can died in this fight or boss will heal for 20% -> wipe... i hope that was helpfull... Gl with that boss on hc mode;)

10-Man Heroic Notes
Nothing in the fight gets "different," per se... it's just a lot more difficult, and thus the strategy needs to change. Ideal comp is 2 tanks, 2 healers, 3 ranged DPS, 3 melee DPS. Saurfang is turn away from the raid with the ranged and healers fanned around behind the boss. You want all the ranged DPS standing on the left side of the area so that the beast will always travel in that direction. This beast should be hit with a slow effect like Earthbind, Frost Trap, or Chains of Ice, and a knockback like Typhoon or Blast Wave should be ready.
While the ranged is killing the left Bloodbeast, the melee has the happy task to killing the right Bloodbeast without getting hit by it. The key here is to stunlock the beast so it never gets a bite of the melee. With the 20% damage buff, we needed 2 stuns on each beast to ensure it dies without biting anybody. The most ideal comp is to have paladins and rogues who can coordinate their stuns, as follows:
The first stun should come from a paladin's Hammer of Justice. Ret and Holy pallies can HoJ every other beast and should get the first stun; Prot pallies can talent their HoJ down to 40 seconds, and should be able to get every beast (needs confirmation, we don't have a prot pally)
The second stun can come from any other source, since the Beast should be mostly dead after the 6 seconds of HoJ. In our raids we have a combat rogue who builds Combo Points and Kidney Shots when the first stun has 1 second left. This task can be accomplished by any stun, so be creative.
With the 20% damage buff currently active, you can expect 2 Mark of the Fallen Champion to happen. Since you ought to use 2 healers (3 is acceptable if your DPS is amazing) they will be working overtime to keep up with the damage.
Minutiae: Saurfang gains Blood Power much faster. a Marked player dying is almost always a wipe.
Difficulty: 8/10. This fight heavily depends on raid comp and RNG. Our raid (below) is ideal for the fight but a lot of others will have trouble with the melee Blood Beast and heals. If Marks go out to bad places, the fight is much much harder, so don't be discouraged if you wipe a lot.
Our Raid: Blood DK and Prot Warrior tank; Holy Paladin and Disc Priest heals; Combat Rogue, Frost DK, Ret Paladin melee; Boomkin, MM Hunter, Ele Shaman ranged. Two knockbacks from Ranged, 3 stuns in melee range (HoJ, Shockwave, Kidney Shot), and Beacon of Light/Binding Heal is pretty much ideal.

If your raid is struggling with the Blood Beasts...
As a rogue in this fight, you can help by using tricks of the trade on one of the ranged dps. Melee the crap out of the Blood Beast closest to you. As soon as it moves out of range, start back on Saurfang.
Also if you have points in Deadly Brew,
, then you have the bonus of slowing the adds down. This is not ideal, but it can make a big difference.
