Probably the quickest fight in the whole raid so far.
Stay buffed with which ever is the opposite of your target. "Try" to get hit with the appropriate floating ball to raise stacks of powering up to get empowered light/darkness.
Nuke boss. Was getting 9k crit ticks on Explosive shot and 21k non crit kill shots
2 shotted... had no previous experience (No PTR runs) on this boss. They do(?) have an enrage timer.

As of 8/26, this encounter has been buffed. Apparently there was a bug or two making this encounter easier than it should have been.
The following bug fixes to Val'kyr Twins were just deployed, and they will increase the overall difficulty of the encounter.
- Surge of Light and Surge of Darkness were not being cast properly on Normal difficulties.
- Light Vortex was doing less damage than Dark Vortex.
Along with those two major bug fixes, we also increased the rate with which the Concentrated Light and Concentrated Darkness spawns.

There is a strategy out there where they had the tanks stay the same color as the boss they were tanking this makes it difficult to produce threat and they take massive damage during twin pact. Just make sure to have everyone the opposite color of the one they are attacking healers it doesn't matter just grab a buff and switch when necessary, mainly during vortex.

Extremely easy encounter on non-heroic mode. Here's how we set it up on 10 and 25 man:
NOTE: The twins appear to share an HP pool (similar to the Illidari Council)
Have one tank take the Dark Portal, have the 24 (or 9) other raid members take the Light Portal (or vice-versa). Assuming the raid takes the light portal, begin the fight by nuking down Eydis (the Dark Twin). Be sure to have the dark portal tank on Fjola, and the Light portal tank on Eydis (this may be more difficult with the recent hotfix to the encounter). We tanked the twins next to their same colour (for example, we tanked Fjola near the light portal, and Eydis near the dark portal) in order to allow DPSers to quickly change color as necessary.
Now for the strategy, it's really straight forward, with only a few things to take note of:

ability. For Example, if Fjola casts vortex, all raid members must quickly click on the Light portal and DPS down Eydis until another switch is necessary.

(Twin's Pact I believe). The heal is very similar to Kael'Thas' Pyroblast, as it comes with a barrier that needs to be DPS'd down before the cast can be interrupted. Being the opposite charge is crucial to dps the barrier down fast enough to stop the heal going off.
In addition, throughout the encounter white and black balls will be shooting around the room. DPSers (and tanks if threat is an issue) should be trying to absorb as many balls with the same color as them (ex: light portal buff= get the white balls), absorbing enough of them will result in a mega buff for crazy DPS burst.
Long story short, for those who dont wish to read through a wall of text:
Be in the same color as the twin casting vortex, and be in the opposite color as the twin casting the heal.

Twin Val'kyr
- Edyis Darkbane & Fjola Lightbane - 25man Normal
Things to note about the bosses and encounter
When you first start the the first, 4 portals pop up, 2 dark and 2 light. Click the portal of color to get a debuff of the color. Dark debuff will let you damage the Lightbane and Light debuff will let you damage Darkbane.
They share a health pool for 27million HP.
Attacks to watch for
Dark Vortex
- Edyis Darkbane and
Light Vortex
- Fjola Lightbane. These do alot of damage
Twin Pack
- 15sec cast. Shields the caster absorbing 250k damage. Interrupt able after shield is down, if complete casting, heals for 20% of their health.
Dark and Light orbs will come out of the walls and move around the arena. Collect the same color orb as your debuff, dark gets dark orb, light gets light orb. Once you get 100 stacks, each orb gives you 5 or more stacks (unconfirm and its seems to share with people around you) you get a buff that gives you 100% damage for 20sec (% off my head)
At first glance, the fight looks very complex, but it isn't. Stuff we found after 2 fail attempts. 3rd and last attempt of the night is always a charm.
Set up
Very little raid damage, we went with 4 healers.
Normal 2 tank, one for each Val'kyr.
Split the dps into 2 equal strenght groups as mention by others.
1 healer per tank and 1 healer pre group, group healer also helps our tank healer.
Fight
Everyone get their Dark or Light debuff before the val'kyrs enter the arena.
Tank the twins by where they first start by the two color portals, Darkbane by the dark portal and Lightbane by the light portal.
Just dps them until the use their special abiltiy, DBM will let you know.
If its Twin Pack, see above, dps the caster asap, if need have some of the range and/or dps from the other twin switch color debuff to help out. If you get this part correctly, that's half the fight.
DBM will warn you when one of the twins will cast the Vortex attack, the Dark Vortex does
ZERO - 0 Damage
if you have the dark debuff and Light Vortex will deal zero - 0 damage if you have the light debuff. It is important to know which vortex is being cast, you have about 4-6secs to switch debuffs, so its important that the tanks tank them by their color portal.
Dark and light orbs will float around the room, try to get the color that matches your debuff, at 100 stack, it'll give you a buff for 20secs, you'll do alot of dps. The opposite color orb will damage you so be careful. The orbs will also buff the bosses the same way, 100 stack they will get a buff for 20secs, so get them before it reaches the boss.

This was one of, if not the easiest fight in ToC10 as of yet. Minimal knowledge of the fight (getting the light/dark buff, playing pacman), and the assistance of DBM should be more then enough for a guild to 1 or 2 shot this encounter.
The heal was no big deal. One went off on the attempt that they were downed, and we just continued on, as if they had a bigger health pool.
The vortexes were just an excuse for DPS to get to the 100% bonus, and the only reason we wiped our first attempt, was because a healer dc'd on a vortex, ended up not switching, and died.
I would say that this fight can be considered to be easier then a couple of Naxx fights, to be honest. This seems more like a reward fight after getting through the Faction Champions (who my guild, as well as numerous other guilds, end up having trouble with, due to the whole "pvp in pve" thing).

Heroic Twins (10 man)
This fight is very much like the normal version. Raid damage is high and *spiky*; your dps needs to be on the ball about picking up the right color orbs - losing a dps or so is likely a wipe (hard to get through shields). There are a lot more orbs than before. There's a new ability - it's like a vortex, but only affects one person - you have to switch colors immediately.
The shields are much bigger than before, you really need the whole raid to switch to the shielded target. You should have your dps split roughly evenly between the targets/colors; changing colors before burning wastes more time than the shift would be worth.
We had a tough time with this until we changed the positioning a bit - on normal mode we tanked them where they spawn, but the floating orbs gave us too much trouble that way. Now we put them close together, near the entrance, and array the ranged dps in an arc around the - the ranged dps move around to pick up orbs of their color.
They have a new debuff - it's like a single-target version of the vortex. Stay near the appropriate portal to change colors quickly, or you might die.
Honestly, play dodgeball. If you pay more attention to the orbs than to dpsing, you'll beat them; it's a loose timer, and even half-assing your cycle you'll do more dps this fight than in any others.

Power of the Twins - Increases Physical damage done by 20%, hit chance by 20%, and attack speed by 10% for 15 seconds. Used only if Fjola is less than 60 yards from Eydis. Both Twins gain this buff .
* This information not right anymore , it is chanced , last little patch . You do not need to seperate them . When the black or white one of the Twins start up casting Shield of Lights or Light Vortex the other one will have Power of the Twins buff and this buff can be stack as how many boubles ( black or white ) the boss taken . Be carefull about the boubles take all of them in your color or not , couse of if the boss will take them Power of the Twins will be more harmful for your tanks .

There is an important aspect of this fight that should not be overlooked.
I have found out from my first tries on the Twin Val'kyr that they follow a pattern. Or, at least, i have formed a theory that has been proved 3 times in a row correct and will see more often untill i see 10 times in a row.
They have 4 major abilities: Light Pack (by Fjola), Dark Pact(by Eydis), Light Vortex(by Fjola) and Dark Vortex(by Fjola).
Now, the trick is, that they always cast the 4 abilities once, before they repeat a certain ability. They do this randomly, but all 4 abilities are casted in the end, before begining a new "cycle".
For example, they cast the Dark Vortex first, then the Light Vortex, then the Light Pact, then the Dark Pact. Then they will begin again, only that this time is the Light Vortex that comes first instead of the Dark Vortex.
Are you getting so far? I hope so.
Now why is this supposed to be mentioned? Why is this order that important?
Because you can then predict the FINAL ABILITY of the "cycle" and optimize your dps
. This can be even better if it's a Pact ability, because your raid will be ready to intercept it and not let them heal. Of course you can do this without this logic, but predicting an ability can help the raid, especially if the raid leader fins the logic and then manages to help the raid.
Again, i have found this theory only today, and i need help in gaining more confirmations about this. The next time you engage the Twin Val'Kyr, please reply in saying that this is either correct or wrong. It would be a big help ^^

Allow me to share the
25man Heroic
strategy my guild used to take them down last night, after several wipes on the more "regular" strategies.
The old idea
The more conventional tactics for this hardmode revolve around splitting the raid in two, and having one half protect the other from the wrong color orbs.
What we did was to have melee and healers as
Dark
and have range as
white
standing in a circle around the middle, trying to grab all the white orbs they could, while dodging the black.
Several problems occurred with this:
1. The black shield proved troublesome, since melee wouldn't have time to switch, and range would get twoshotted by wrong color orbs while trying to stand still and dps.
2. Light vortex was a b#&%h since melee+healers had to leave the safety of the middle to switch colors... twice. (first to light to survive, then back to dark to uphold the rules of the strategy)
3. Empowered Light/Dark is very often gained during Vortex, meaning that 90% of the time, either melee or range would have to discard the benefit, and switch back to their previous non-empowered color.
The new idea
My roommate, some guildies and myself spent an evening after our wipe raid to talk about the 3 problems I listed above, and here's what we came up with. (and in case you missed it, it works like a charm)
Setup
6-7 healers (we went with 7 since dps was no problem)
4 tanks (yes, alternative, but it will all make sense soon)
rest DPS (melee is to be prefered, but on our kill we actually had heavy range)
Strategy
Our new strategy revolves around minimizing movement and color switches and thereby maximizing the benefit gained from Empowered Light/Dark while keeping fairly safe.
What we do, is to have the entire raid go
dark
except 3 tanks.
1 of them would be tanking Darkbane, and the 2 others will simply be "soak tanks" running around eating as many white orbs as the can before they get to the raid. The whole idea behind having tanks, is that their high hp allows them to be a bit less careful about dodging dark orbs, and thereby granting them the ability to shield the raid more effectively.
We stand like
this (click me)
so the melees can hit them in the back naturally. Additionally, we stack the raid. And when I say stack the raid, I really mean stack! Trying to hide inside your boomkin is to be recommended, since minimizing the area that wrong color orbs can hit is paramount to survival. The "soak tanks" will be running around the raid and eating up orbs all the time (they are not included in my drawing)
Now this all seems very simple, and the beauty of it: it's all there is to it!
Here's how this strategy deals with abilities (this is just an example order, to give you the idea):
Dark vortex
Mmmm, free damage boost! (Soak tanks switch if they feel like it, or pop a cooldown)
Light shield
No action required since the whole raid is already black and dps'ing the light one.
Light vortex
Again, a free damage boost, the whole raid is standing within clicking range of a light portal, so we simply click it, and take position by the dark portal in the front (like
this
) and STAY THERE. No reason to throw away our color, since now everything is just inverted. Our soak tanks will go dark, and start eating the other color, and all dps simply just switch targets.
Dark shield
If this one comes after Light Vortex, then no action is required like above, if it comes before, then the whole raid simply clicks the portal they are standing next to, dps it down, and take position by the dark portal.
Summary
So, we simply take a position depending on what color the raid is, and we will
maximum have one switch of color per ability
. Every color switch comes with a position switch, but once everyone gets it (it took us 2 tries to get the position switching done fast and properly), it is no problem at all.
Advantages/Disadvantages
This tactic is very very strong in dps, and can therefore easily afford the 7 healers and 4 tanks, since every correctly colored orb reaching the raid will buff
all
the dps at the same time, and no one is ever giving up an empowered light/dark.
The cost of this, is that every incorrectly colored orb reaching the raid, will damage everyone, but thats why you have the soak tanks.
The order of abilities will decide how many minutes you spend killing them and how many times you have to run back and forth between the two positions, but other than that it's not really a problem.
The "worst" order possible is Light Vortex - Light shield - Dark shield - Dark Vortex since you will have to move every single time, but it is still not harder in any way due to the fact that you are always standing next to the portal you'll need.

Some clarifications, if you'd be so kind:
4 tanks
1 tanking Darkbane with light essence buff on

Correct so far?
Yes indeed.
Everyone still switches to the same color to match the vortex, right? So the 3 tanks with light essence beeline for the dark portal (with Lightbane in tow) to switch to dark when Darkbane is doing Dark essence.
Actually, we found it easier if they simply popped a cooldown to survive it, but beelining is an option if the field is clear enough of orbs to do it safely.
So we'll say Rogue A and Deathknight B are a soaker 'team'. B starts out normal, with the same essence as the dps and stacking in the same spot; A starts with light essence, running around collecting light orbs. He get's empowered light, and goes to DPS Darkbane, telling B on vent or via whisper macro that it's his turn to soak light orbs. B switches color to light essence and goes ape on the orbs, probably picking up enough until he's got empowered light and then peeling off to hit Darkbane. A switches back to soaking etc. etc. I suppose it could be tight and very close quarters, but it sounds like it could squeeze more dps out of the raid if things go right.
Not a bad idea on paper, but their chances of survival would be very very slim.
The thing is, when for example a black shield pops (assuming start position), then the whole raid will switch to white, and thereby be extremely vulnerable to dark orbs (which the soak tanks have so far avoided, and let through to the raid).
To avoid this nasty situation, the soak tanks will immediately start collecting black orbs when a black shield hits, and dps'ers will simply not be able to do that without faceplanting.
It is a noble cause to try and squeeze out more dps, but for comparison, if a white shield comes in start position, it will be down at around 50% cast without popping BL or any other cd's, so dps itself is not a big problem.
Depending on the ability order (which is extremely important with this tactic) it might be worthwhile to make the raid beeline after some abilities that has required a switch, if you are at the point where the next ability can be determined before it comes (since all 4 abilities will come once before they start a new cycle of random order)

You don't really need tank soakers. This is how it also can be done aswell with normal DPS soakers.
Whole raid is Black (and standing near a White portal at the start) except for the 4 White colored soakers with
Shadow Resistance gear
. Those soakers will catch all white balls and barely need healing from black orbs if they hit them, because of the Shadow Resistance gear. Soakers will stay White for the whole duration of the fight.
Dark Vortex
Enjoy your dmg boost. Soakers will take low dmg due to Shadow Resistance gear so stay White obviously.
Light shield
Obviously easy and nothing changes here, just nuke the shield with increased dmg done.
Light Vortex
Raid (always Black when this happens) is standing next to the White portal so click it and survive easily getting a damage boost (soakers are already white). After this the whole raid has to move to Black, click it and move back to the White portal again.
Normally this would cause troubles because at that point the whole raid (including soakers) is white. That's why 2 of the soakers at the Black portal side will move ahead of the raid in the direction of the Black portal, take all balls (yes, also black) to protect the raid from black balls, until the whole raid is Black again. After that they will simply catch light balls again only.
Dark shield
Raid (always Black when this happens) is standing next to the White portal so click it and nuke down the shield to interrupt the heal. After this is done the whole raid has to move to Black, click it and move back to the White portal again.
Normally this would cause troubles because at that point the whole raid (including soakers) is white. That's why 2 of the soakers at the Black portal side will move ahead of the raid in the direction of the Black portal, take all balls (yes, also black) to protect the raid from black balls, until the whole raid is Black again. After that they will simply catch light balls again only.
The idea of this tactic is that you will have soakers almost completely immune to the black ball damage. This gives a huge advantage.
The raid (and soakers) does have to move twice, but if soakers do their job well (they can easily take black balls while doing so) this is a perfect tactic where the DPS requirement is very low (so if you want you could also take an extra healer/soaker).
Edit: You could/should pop surviving cooldowns (especially Divine Sacrifice) when the raid has to move between the portals, just to be sure.

However, apart from using 2 more people for soaking, and thereby prolonging the kill, you will also give up the empowered light gained during Light Vortex due to always going back to black.
I don't know if I understood you well, but the soakers still do a reasonable amount of dmg while soaking, even though soaking is the main priority.
But the collective DPS in this fight is only important during the "bad" shield and this is not a problem at all because the raid will be able to switch to the right color instantly to nuke it down. This is also why losing the Empowered Light effect is no problem.
This figtht is just about surviving and topping DPS at the right time (bad shield).
The whole raid beelining to the black portal and back is also more dangerous than it sounds, since the ones going there will be white, and the ones returning will be black, meaning all orbs will damage someone.
If the soakers do their job well, they will be catching all black (and preferably also white) balls when the raid moves (close together) and after the raid changed to black again they can ignore the black balls again and catch white again.
The reason that the soakers should also catch white balls at that point, is because when the raid switches to black again, there should be no white balls near the raid. Therefore the raid should not blindly move, but instead look around for opposite color balls and wait with moving back if that is the case.
All this would be a problem if the soakers took an insane amount of dmg from black balls, but they won't because the Shadow Resistance really mitigates alot of damage from the black balls and healing the soakers will be very easy and they don't have to worry about any color balls.

Would you after the LS still make the raid beeline to get back their black color even though there's a 100% certainty that the next two abilities will require white?
After those first 2 abilities of your example you are still black (haven't even changed yet) and know that the next 2 need white, true. But since your soakers are already white you still want the raid to go black after, that's obvious.
So to "counter" this we currently only change on bad shield. We just heal through the bad vortex (staying black) because it's easily outhealable while popping cooldowns like Divine Hymn, Divine Sacrificae, Aura Mastery, etc. This way we only have to move once, which is after the bad shield is broken.
But yeah your tactic also seems very solid and the fight can be done in many ways. We recently also did the door tactic and that one is also viable, though it has a pretty high DPS requirement on bad shield and if you get a second bad shield on 5th ability it's most likely a wipe, but it's doable at the end.

Small... well, bug is the wrong word, but I'll use that:
If you time it JUST RIGHT you can interrupt the heal before the shield gets up. The shield will then remain and do nothing, allowing you to ignore it completely and focus damage elsewhere. You essentially have to press your interrupt just as the timer hits 0, between the spell being cast and the shield going up.

Before the fight, locks with light essence can use hellfire to gain stacks of the debuff while the hellfire ticks are absorbed. This allows locks to gain empowered light almost immediately as the fight starts, which could be useful in increasing raid dps.
EDIT: As of 3.3, this, along with lev on gormok no longer works.

You guyz don't switch the essence for dpsing when opposite colored Val'kyr shields? Can someone clarify this? We are losing a lot of time to change our essence.
I would like to emphasize that you do not need to switch essence when breaking the shield, since the shield will not take reduced damage. Your essence only affects damage that will damage the boss, not their shield.
...this quote comes from a comment on ArgentSun's TotGC strategy, can someone please confirm if essence doesn't matter on shields?

It is possible to actually interrupt their Light/Dark pact with a shield bash before they raise the shield. This results into a shielded valkyr, but no pending heal. It requires a lot luck though. I'm talking about a 0.2 second reaction.
So, experiment with it.

The drop rates seem a little bit low, i.e. there are 6 epics in the drop table, thus assuming that 1 must always drop, the average drop % should be 16.6%. The numbers shown in the last column oscillate around 8-9%.
I presume that this is due to the fact that wowhead aggregates the total attempts made for
both Horde and Alliance alike
while calculating the drop percentages. Therefore you should assume
double
drop rate for your own faction's raids, i.e. a given epic should drop with ~16% chance for you.

Remember the Twinrova boss from Ocarina of Time? This is like that, but from hell. Like them, you need to empower yourself with the opposite energy of the one you're attacking. If you go for Fjola, get Dark energy, and if you attack Eydis, get Light energy. (This is only true for DPS, the opposite holds for tanks and healers due to the damage reduction.) Also like Twinrova, when they ready an attack, you need to charge yourself with the
same
type of energy that they are about to hit you with. The fight is basically pretty much that over and over. Oh, and if they do their Twin's Pact move, wail on the caster HARD until the shield breaks, then do a Wind Shear or Silencing Shot or something.

So, if I got this right, 4 things can happen at any time, either one of the twins can cast Twins-Pact or Vortex!
When you dpsing a twin (with the right essence you need to have at that time), you need to change essence if the one you are on casts Vortex, or the other one casts Twins-Pact!
This way the names and the colours dont matter much! You just know when you need to change!
Is that thought correct at all?
(ofcourse, practice makes perfection, I just needed a way to not confuse myself in the first encounters)

The shields cast during the Pact's do not apply to there respective essences, everyone does their flat damage to the shield regardless of essence. You can have your raid on any essence you wish as long as the tanks are opposite each other and tanking the appropriate sister lol. The trouble with the stacking method is the orbs opposite of what your raid stacked will run a muck increasing the needs for extra healz.
