At the recent Battle for Azeroth media day, many influenceRs and press outlets were able to interview WoW Developers. Here is a roundup of all the interviews that we've found and a quick summary of each.
There was also a general
Q&A session with Ion Hazzikostas
and we also had an
interview with Muffinus
to learn more about Wrathion and Islands Expeditions, including Islands will be account-wide meaning you can level alts through them!
Highlights
Weather 2.0 has been added to the latest alpha build.
All of the collection achievements including mounts and pets will be increased in Battle for Azeroth.
The idea is that Azerite traits will contain abilities that will not change when you change spec. When you swap specs you may want to swap gear pieces. Collecting multiple gear sets and having those for specific purposes and roles is an interesting an healthy part of gameplay.
There will be a new type of pet charm and new rewards that you can only get with the new charm. This new charm will also be used to purchase the upgrade stones. The old charms are sticking around and can be used to purchase the existing rewards.
WoWChakra
WoWChakra interviewed with Matt Goss & Patrick Dawson:
New battle pets and skills are on the way.
Thrall is still out there!
While micro-holidays do not have permanent rewards, they allow us to relax and take a break from killing bosses and the serious stories of Azeroth.
The Guild Interface will be revamped soon, adding the Community Feature to the UI.
There are thematic rewards from different civilizations from Island Expeditions. For example, if you defeat the Mogu on an Island, you could get a Mogu-themed reward.
The BFA War Campaign serves a similar function to the Class Campaign from Legion as far as furthering the story.
TradeChat
Panser
interviewed Jeremy "Muffinus" Feasel, Senior Game Designer for World of Warcraft and Frank Kowalkowski, Assistant Technical Director on World of Warcraft:
Island Expeditions are going to be tuned for 3 players, you won't be able to do it solo.
No plans for BFA solo challenges like the Mage Tower, but there are cool ideas for the Brawler's Guild, or other types of solo content people get to watch.
First Aid was phased out as game design changed. Classes have a lot of self-healing and more defensive abilities, they aren't bandaging a lot. So now the First Aid skills are spread out among other professions.
With Warfronts and Islands being role agnostic, the solo players will have something to do and be able to get an insta-queue.
All of the collection achievements including mounts and pets will be increased in Battle for Azeroth.
Brand new Weather 2.0 system with the latest alpha build

Hazelnuttygames
interviewed Jeremy "Muffinus" Feasel, Senior Game Designer for World of Warcraft, and Frank Kowalkowski, Assistant Technical Director on World of Warcraft:
The Advanced NPCs in Island Expeditions were too smart at first in internal testing and had to be toned down.
While leaderboards and esports would be interesting for Island Expeditions and the framework is possibly there, nothing is planned for 8.0.
The Paragon treasure box system is planned to move forward, but pulling back from low drop-rate mounts as rewards.
There will be a new type of pet charm and new rewards that you can only get with the new charm. This new charm will also be used to purchase the upgrade stones. The old charms are sticking around and can be used to purchase the existing rewards.
Pet battle content in Battle for Azeroth will involve new world quests and quirky things interspersed in the zones. There are new cats, chickens, and even chicken hairstyles, as well as new pet ability mechanics. There are pet battle dungeons planned, just not right at 8.0's launch.
The
Uuna questline
showcased new technology which allows the pet's look to change based on criteria a player completes. In theory, you could upgrade a pet with certain features based on the content you do in game, such as talking to an NPC to toggle on/off a backpack for your pet.

interviewed Senior Producer Travis Day and Senior Concept Artist Jimmy Lo.
For Warfronts, other than Stromgarde, they aren't ready to announce any additional locations yet.
Some Artifact Weapons appearances may be able to be used by other specs on a case-by-case basis as they have a very spec-specific in their look and art style but they want to control the thematic class fantasy.
Specific mention was made to Void-y Holy Priests
Who started the attack? A lot of it will be up to debate. They think that you'll come to the conclusion that Sylvanas burned the tree, but how much of the Horde is behind that? And how much of the retribution is driven by Anduin trying to prove something versus the strategic objective.
Chapter Questing like with Suramar will be present in Battle for Azeroth. They do have two new capital cities of Boralus and Zandalar but invested heavily into the War Campaign.
It's possible that the advanced AI from Islands may slowly be expanded into the World through rares or random spawns.
A lot of work goes into creating an individual zone starting with a premise, moving into visuals, stories and more! Check out the
full story for the full answer
The idea is that Azerite traits will contain abilities that will not change when you change spec. When you swap specs you may want to swap gear pieces. Collecting multiple gear sets and having those for specific purposes and roles is an interesting an healthy part of gameplay.
As you increase in power, the traits get increasingly specific but at the lower levels, especially for questing gear, it's generic.
Invenglobal
Invenglobal
interviewed senior producer Travis Day, principal artist Jimmy Lo, and senior designer Steve Burke.
When asked about unique class raid buffs and the danger of some classes being unwanted due to lower-quality abilities, Travis replied that it's good to have diversity in raid encounters so different classes can shine on different bosses. Classes have different buffs ties into the variation. However, it would definitely be a problem if a class was completely excluded from a raid.
The minimum spec requirements are increasing in Battle for Azeroth. By moving the requirements up, it lets Blizzard have more freedom to do things with weather effects and systems. In the past, they were able to have some 32-bit client support by doing some odd things to free up storage. For example, Vrykul NPCs were stored as a race, even though they weren't playable, and freeing up that old race allowed Demon Hunter support in the 32-bit client.
Lore-wise, G'huun is less powerful than an Old God.
The story leading up to 8.0 will have more of the blanks filled in. Blizzard wants to "end up in a place where the Horde can make an argument that the Alliance started it and vice versa, as is the lead of all conflicts." Travis feels Sylvanas is not evil--she is aggressive and is trying to defend her people.
Vanion
Vanion and Tonton
interviewed game designer Matt Goss and technical director Patrick Dawson.
The developers are aware of the faction imbalance in hardcore raid guilds and have ideas on how to tackle the problem, but nothing to share quite yet.
The devs do not want you to feel forced to roll an Allied Race for a certain racial, and will keep an eye on racials and adjust if need be.
It was important, especially with the Kul Tiran and Zandalari Druid forms, to have the forms look really cool as Druids don't get to show equipment.
More secrets planned for Battle for Azeroth!
Blizzard was unaware that the Legion patches worked out to be 77 days apart!
