World of Warcraft Classic Category Added to Twitch - Now Removed

World of Warcraft Classic now has its own category on
Twitch
, splitting up the universal WoW category that encompassed both Retail and Classic streams.

World of Warcraft Categories on Twitch
For many Twitch users, this has been requested for some time as some viewers prefer to only watch Retail or only watch Classic streams. For the content creators that play both Dragonflight and Wrath, this does put an extra burden on them, as they will need to either swap categories frequently or choose one dedicated category, potentially missing out on the audience for that particular version of WoW.
As of November 9th, the WoW Classic category on Twitch is extremely small. Many content creators that stream Classic exclusively either don't know there is a new category or are actively choosing to remain in the World of Warcraft category.
This category split happened to Runescape on Twitch, adding the
Old School Runescape category
, and was received well. While content creators in that community said the split was a positive change, World of Warcraft content creators currently feel this could have a negative impact for both Retail and Classic streamers.
