Last night, in the middle of the madness of a new Beta build, the gaming community has received word that the game critic and streamer, John 'TotalBiscuit' Bain, has passed away at age 33, after a long hard fight against cancer.
While his most recent work didn't target World of Warcraft, TotalBiscuit's career was always tied closely to the game and Blizzard. He was first known for the
Blue Plz!
podcast and the
World of Warcraft Radio
, a fanmade radio he ran from 2005 to 2010, which got him invited to cover BlizzCon 2005. As a game critic, Bain's career started during the beta testing of Cataclysm, when he became wildly popular for his narrated gameplay. Below you can see some of his work during this time.
Blizzard has released a statement about his death on their Twitter account:
TotalBiscuit was known for his opinionated game critiques and sense of humor, offering good and quick reviews on gaming news and releasing games, especially indie titles, which got him the reputation of "Indie Game Champion".
TotalBiscuit first announced his bowel cancer treatment back in 2014. The treatment was successful at the start, causing cancer to go into remission. However, later on, he discovered that it had spread to his liver and it was inoperable. Given his condition, the doctors gave him 2-3 years to live. Bain fought hard against the disease for the 3 years and last month had announced that he would
retire as a game critic
, as his condition could cloud his judgment. For the announcement, he wrote a lengthy
Reddit post
to reach his followers directly.
