BlizzCon 2015 Legion Interview Highlights Round Up

We have rounded up some recent BlizzCon interviews with the WoW team and summarized their focal points. Lots of info was released concerning demon hunters, artifacts, class order halls, item scaling and more! All the interviews are linked below (do check them out for more details), as well as our own interviews with Chris Robinson and Cory Stockton.

Interview Highlights
You can access the Demon Hunter starting zone before launch with the Legion pre-order.
Moose mount from Archimonde kills will be available for a limited time only, between Patches 6.2.3 and 7.0.
Accessories will appear on some Artifact weapons , like quivers or librams. They will not take an armor slot, but will appear as an item on your character.
Two new arenas are in the works, instead of a new battleground.
There will be a new "Lords of War"-esque series starring Gul'dan, Khadgar, and Illidan.
Prospecting will be back for Jewelcrafters.
Wowhead and Cory Stockton
Transmog system will allow you to save specified looks that you can change at the touch of a button.
Item scaling a huge new tech that you will experience throughout the game.
Many new passive a for all specs that allow you to focus on your core rotation.
Emissary quests in your class order hall stack up like Hearthstone quests do so you can do several on one day if you miss a day or two.
Keystone/CM dungeon rewards will be commensurate with the difficulty you are able to complete.

Wowhead and Chris Robinson
Challenges of creating Legion zones were discussed - Broken Isles looked too peaceful at first.
Inspiration for Class Halls was tied to the inspirations for Artifacts and armor sets.
New artifact weapons are slightly more elaborate than familiar ones like Doomhammer so they can compete with coolness.
Discussion on how model revamps for famous NPCs are handled, like Varian.
Melee combat animations are getting revamped, including the timing of the combat log above your character's head.

Video
New Demon Hunter starting experience is amazing, and they are currently working on making sure the whole game is at that level of quality.
Only having one major content patch (HFC) was, in retrospect, a mistake. Our intention was to bring our Legion quickly.
Suramar is planned as launch content, not like a Tanaan-style release.
Pre-patch and Pre-launch event will be released 4-6 weeks before Legion. This will involve the Broken Isles.
If you have Pre-ordered, you can access Demon Hunters before Legion launch.

Wanted DH to be an incredibly mobile class
6.2.3 will be November or December
Moose mount will be limited time between 6.2.3 and Pre-Legion patch.
The collection aspect of the new transmog system is interesting as an addition to the use i.e. You'll feel satisfied being able to say "Oh i've collected all the gear from Black Temple!"
Vanion & Cory Stockton
Legion introduces new story-telling tech "talking heads."
Not 100% sure about the standing of Warforged items but we're looking towards beta and feedback. Item scaling will relate to these decisions.
Raid boss runes: We don't 100% know yet how they will work, but it is related to inscription and think it's a cool concept. Although we don't want it to feel required.
You can start working towards flying immediately upon release of Legion but you won't be able to actually unlock it until a later patch.
Is there an artifact power cap? Yes, could be something we might have to implement but we don't have sources set yet.
The Legion invasion will not only be seen on the Broken Isles but also in other parts of Azeroth
The new Legendary world drops should feel exciting, like old epics were back in Vanilla.
No big Old God related story lines in Legion.
Legendary drops are world only at this point.
Blizzplanet & Cory Stockton
Cinematic sets you up for the concept of the direness of the invasion. Harkens back to BC and going through the Dark Portal.
Accessories that are not armor slots that go with Artifacts - first time we're seeing that, in Legion. Librams for Paladins, possibly Quivers for MM Hunters, possibly Totems for shamans. Starting this with Artifacts, it could possibly grow.
Some world quests can be up for 3ish days, some for 2 hours. The 2 hour one could drop a mount!
Zone scaling - say you are levelling with a 110 and you are 104, how does that work? Tech scales to the higher level character but you'll still be able to hit 110 mobs as a 104.
Ion Hazzikostas & MMO Champion
Opening scenario will be 20 Alliance and 20 Horde with seamless queuing. It is a beach assault in stages as completed by the raid as a whole. You fight your way up the hill to the Tomb of Sargeras.
This is playable pre-launch.
Cap on ilvl from Keystone dungeons? The difficulty should, ostensibly, be infinite. You can go forward, but rewards will be capped at a certain ilvl range.
Keystone dungeons will have leaderboards.
The goal is not to replace Mythic raiding but possibly, if you enjoy normal raiding but want a smaller group size, then it could be comparable.
Each person can get 1 key stone each week (with possibly a chance to earn a bonus). Keystones are empowered/depleted in terms of loot rewarded, not level of keystone.
Cosmetic CM rewards? Still working on this. Definitely cosmetic armor will be tied to Artifacts.
No cap on how many world quests you can do but you might run out eventually.
Ion Hozzikostas & MMORPG
Playstyles aren't changing to fit Artifacts (i.e. it doesn't matter that bears are wearing fist weapons)
You can't join mid questline but you can start new zones with other leveled players.
We have more ambitious plans for patch sizes in Legion.
Adam Final Boss & Luis Barriga
Taking lessons from WOD for leveling (rares, treasures, etc) but tweaking use of cinematics.
Stormheim for Alliance is a Genn Greymane storyline, and for Horde it is Sylvanas' storyline.
If an artifact has a mainhand and an offhand, they skin together (it's one item)
Some spell animations are going to be affected by your Artifact.

DH PvP testing hasn't happened totally yet
DH is a darker story than our usual player characters. Embrace dark power and leave their lives behind. Illidari backstory.
DH story starts while the normal player character heroes are attacking Illidan at the Black Temple, so we defeat him but how does that effect the Illidari?
First internal game reference to player character heroes. Showing the other side of raiding Black Temple.
We can't save Illidan and we're captured. How does Alliance/horde ever trust DH? We'll leave it at that /wink.

No new battlegrounds but we want to add battleground content in different ways.
2 new arenas in mind.
Khadgar, Gul'dan, and Illidan will be starring in a new "Lords of War"esque type series.
Keeping to 2 banned BGs for queuing
Prestige incentives: Prestige! Bragging rights, but clearly optional
At 48, 49, and 50 for PvP Prestige, you earn things like title, portrait badge, mount, and they are new every time you prestige.
"Omnitoken" will drop from PvP boxes if you need to fill that one slot of PvP gear that you haven't been able to fill
PvP mini game in Dalaran sewers still in the works (mentioned at Gamescom)
Current plan: 2 seasons of PvP per raid tier, since we no longer have to match gear to raid ilvls.
PvP rewards split into top percentage of horde and top percentage of alliance
Elvine & Matt Goss
Rerolling crafted gear wasn't very "clean" and we think obliteratum will help solve that
JC crafted items will always have sockets, other items it will remain a random chance
JC Prospecting will be back
Alchemy masteries "possibly" coming back but more than likely recipe ranks will solve this.
BlizzardWatch & Dave Kosak
Most ambitious prelaunch event yet
Prelaunch will have flying Legion citadels, that land and "implant themselves on the ground."
We have some new tech that allows us to have buildings that just embed themselves in the ground, and demons will just pour out of this, and the whole zone’s going to have to come together, there’ll be some quests to do to cleanse that zone.
We will be "tinkering" with Acherus to make it a nicer class hall
Regarding class halls, "like Craig (Amai) said yesterday at the Q&A, the goal is not to have everybody has something equally cool, some of them (class halls) will have something special, some of them might not.
