If you're an Herbalist, the bog lords in SW Zangamarsh can be "skinned" for several things, including motes of life and the odd Ancient Lichen. The lords can also drop the motes themselves.

I farmed those bog lords for an hour today, and 'Herbing' them didn't give a single mote. I also think the drop rate for the bog lords and the starving bog lords is reversed. The healthy mobs dropped way more motes.

I made a quick outline of where all the best places to farm motes are. Very useful if, like me, you are farming many of them for a recipe of some sort.
Layout:
(Zone) NPC name - Coordinates - % drop rate - link to page at Wohead
Mote of Air:
(Nagrand) Storming Wind-Ripper - 69.21 (Throne of Elements) - 33.9% -
https://www.cuckhead.com/wotlk/npc=22310
Mote of Fire:
(Nagrand) Raging Fire-Soul - 69.21 (Throne of Elements) - 34.1 -
https://www.cuckhead.com/wotlk/npc=22311
Mote of Water:
(Terokkar Forest) Crashing Wave-Spirit - 63.17 (North-Western Throne of Elements) - 33.7 -
https://www.cuckhead.com/wotlk/npc=22309
Mote of Earth:
(Blade's Edge Mountains) Sundered Rumbler - (Basically above and all below Area 52) - 18.8 -
https://www.cuckhead.com/wotlk/npc=18881
Mote of Mana:
(Netherstorm) Mana Wraith - 36.60 and 31.73 (Anywhere above Area 52 and more below. While you're at it, kill the Nether Rays as well, they have just as good of a chance to drop and are mostly in the same area) - 25.8 -
https://www.cuckhead.com/wotlk/npc=18864
Mote of Life:
(Zangarmarsh) I didn't find any specific place to farm for these because the zone is just rich with them. But I would suggest farming the Bogg/ Starving Bogg Lords and Fungal /Starving Fungal Giants because they are all very close. - The Spawning Glen (SW Zangarmarsh) and East of there is the Quagg Ridge - Very similar drop rates on all 4 mobs that I pointed out, 18.2 to 18.8 -
https://www.cuckhead.com/wotlk/item=22575#00Rmz
Mote of Shadow:
By far the most commonly found mote. This is dropped in almost every zone and can be easily farmed anywhere. But there may be a few exceptional areas just because npcs that drop them are close together, non-elite, and easy to kill. Here's one spot in a few that are exceptional:
(Nagrand) Voidspawn - Again, no specific coords, but all around Oshu'Gun, the bigass crystal SW Nagrand. - 18.4 -

I used to farm the withered bog lords in northeastern Zangarmarsh for these(quite successfully), but today after about 30 kills I haven't received a single one.
edit: after 10 more kills I got 2 of them. But normally I would have a couple primals at least.
wtf...nerfed in 2.1? Or am I having really bad luck? I have never had this bad of a drop rate for these before.
(I did notice the added Living essence drops though. I picked up 8)

If you're a protection paladin and can AoE grind, I've found the best way to get these motes is thus:
Bring a friend- anyone is fine, but if you aren't an herbalist this person should be an herbalist.
Go to dead mire. Pick an area where you can see 6+ bog giants. Attack one, seal/judge light, then have your helper round up the other nearby bog giants and drag them to you (you should be consecrating to pick them up). Once you have a bunch, stop pulling them and kill them. Loot them, herb them, move on.
Using this strategy, a level 63 rogue and I were able to get a grand total of 79 motes of life in about an hour and a half, plus 5 bars of experience for the rogue.
I was also able to pick up half a stack of Adamantite on the side, and about 8g worth of vendor trash.

Yes, people are saying that the Dead Mire is a good place to farm these, and I can confirm that.
I spent about 1-2 hours there and picked up 4-5 Primals, or so. A very nice place! Not very much competition and and I can almost 3 shot them as a Priest. Easiest thing I've ever farmed!
Good luck!

The best I have found to farm these post zangarmarsh nerfs is in Skettis, on the elite trees that pat there. If you have the gear to kill them and no one else is farming them the return is huge, guaranteed 2-5 motes per mob.

I found the Dead Mire in Zangramarsh to be an excelent place to farm those motes. gotta admit that i haven't tried so many places though.
In about 1,5-2 hours i got 9 primals.
According to my MobInfo addon the Boglords had ca 36% droprating.
The lvl 62 Giants had 34% (!)
The lvl 61 Giants had 16%
So you should try to kill mostly 62 mobs(all Boglords are 62)

I don't know how or why, but I'm seeing a dramatically different drop rate. After killing 47 of the giants in Zangarmarsh, I've had one drop. One. That's a 2.1% drop rate, almost an order of magnitude below the one listed. In the same space of time, a friend grinding on the same mobs (not grouped) got a full primal. She took pity on me, and gave me the motes she got from herbing my kills. I currently have 30 motes, of which only 5 actually dropped for me.
All I can say is, if you look at the above drop rates and think "surely there's something wrong here!" there isn't. The server just hates you. Hang in there; I feel your pain.

Holy Paladins who need Primal Life for their healing enchants can easily AOE farm Motes of Life at Quagg Ridge. Get some spelldps gear (you should have some from levelling), and gather about 4-5 giants. AoE them down with conc while stacking crusader on each. Easy farming.

I've been finding quite a different picture; I've been farming Motes of Life for my nature resist gear for the past two weeks and have tracked a pretty stable 10% drop rate from the Bog Lords in ZM (both locations). I was turning over about 1 Primal Life every half hour as a protection pally, but a DPS class could do it much faster.
I found watching the television while farming makes it that much easier :-)
PS: be warned when AOE grinding; the starved mobs do a stacking debuff that hurts quite alot once it stacks 5 times.

After been grinding Starving Fungal Giants and Starving Bog Lords for like half an hour I only have got a single Mote of Life. What is going on? The Bog Lords in Quagg Ridge was nice to grind in patch 2.3. Have blizzard changed the drop rate to like 5%? In the same among of time I could get around 4-5 Primal Water (40-50 Mote of Water) in Elemental Platue just by grinding elementals and fishing. And now I can't even use my Mote Extractor in Zangarmarsh go get Mote of Life, as of patch 2.3 Zangarmarsh nodes gives Mote of Water too. Is there any good way to farm for Mote of Life now? Or do I have to trasmute to get them?

Talonsworn Forest-Rager's
in Skettis are somewhat tough but a good place to herb-skin for motes. They generally give 2-5 motes and 2-3 other herbs like Felweed and Mana Thistle. But they're immune to nature damage like many elementals so Boomkins and Shamans beware.
Note: Skettis is only accessable by flying.

All of the primals (earth, wind, fire, life, shadow) are used for LW, BS, JC and tailoring, i suspect they are also used for eng, and enchanting. I am an alchemist, i know some of the greater prot pots use motes, and many xmutes use primals. The primal might xmute uses 1 of each, some of the stone xmutes (used mainly by JC's) use them, the alchemists stone, awesome lvl 70 trinket, uses 3 primal mights and one of each of the transmuted stones, it takes a total of about 20 primals. Bassicly they are a reagent used by most proffesions, like many gems.

Just grind them off the different types of Bog Lord in Zangarmarsh. They drop frequently off the ones in the Spawning Grounds. In grinding rep there the other day I gathered around 1 Pimal Life worth of motes per hour of grinding, and that was stopping to take frequent gank breaks (either being ganked, or ganking back). So, with constant grinding you can probably earn 2 Primals per hour if you kill fast enough.

I farmed Starving fungal giants in the spawning glen, and fungal giants in Quagg Ridge, 1 hour each. I averaged about 75 kill per hour, and got approximately twice as many mote of life from the regualar ones (30 motes) as opposed to the starving ones (17 motes). Plus, I got about 1200 rep with Sporregar per hour, and counting all money from gray and white items that I vendored, and the primals and greens that I auctioned, plus the pots that I made out of the things I picked, I gained about 90 gold for one hour. Overall, Quagg Ridge is an awesome spot to farm life, not just for the motes but for all the other stuff you get. Especially great if you have herbalism.

I dont know where they got that % drop rate from the rotting forest ragers, or how many where used in the % estimate, but i've killed like 20 of em the last 2 days and gotten 2 motes of life, or a 10% drop rate.
评论来自
Allakhazam
The Rotting Forest-Rager does not really have a 50%+ drop rate. The addon used to gather the loot info for each mob does not count a loot when the mob doesn't drop anything. 9 out of 10 kills there will be nothing on this mob to loot. When there is something it "might" be a
and it may be a grey item. In reality the mote drop rate from
Rotting Forest-Rager
is more like 9 - 10%.
Also there are only about 6 - 7 actual Rotting Forest-Rager roaming around the edges of Auchindoun. You have to mount up after each kill and find the next one which makes actually farming Rotting Forest-Rager more of a pain than it's worth.
If you really want to farm a lot of
, go to Zangarmarsh and farm
Bog Lords
and
Fungal Giants
. When these mobs drop motes, about half the time you will get
X2. There are so many of these mobs around that on average you can farm 60 - 80 motes an hour (this is of course not counting ganks and the occasional vender run to sell off greys for 2g a stack). Their spawn rate is really good also. If you farm just east of the spawning grounds, there you will occasionally see a bunch of "Starving" Fungal Giants and Bog Lords walking your way. These guys are just extra mobs that you can kill for more motes. All these mobs here can be harvested by Herbalists increasing the chance that extra
s will drop for you increasing the actual drops to almost 100 an hour.

Okay, I was farming these in Zanger, in Quagg Ridge, and I said, Hey, Ill take a tally of this to see what I get. Well after 1 hour of farming, i got 30 Motes of Life, 2 greens, and 56 kills. At that rate, I'd say that that is probly the best place to farm these. Though there are times when you go 12 of these things and not get a single one, and most of them drop in pairs after 4-7 kills, It is still a good place to farm these. One Reason: MUSHROOM PEOPLE! Yes, Sporegar loves you after farming these things. Every kill gives you a rep reward of 12-16, so this is a very easy way to get some happy mushrooms and some motes at the same time.
Note: The Fungel Giants and Bog Lords seam to drop them more then the starving ones that wonder in there sometimes. The ones on the east side of the ridge also seam to have a higher drop rate then the ones on the west side. This is probly just a flook, but I thought it was worth mentioning
Happy Farming!

I'm not sure how the Thottbot % drop rate works, but i definitely agree that the kill-loot drop rate is nowhere near 22%. But, if you consider the loot obtained from, 'herbing' the mob corpse (like skinning but for an herbalist), then the drop rate is probably close to 20%. Keep in mind that the mob is considered like a herb spawn point for herbalist, therefore you can 'herb' up to 3 motes of life from a single herb attempt. Averaging this out in addition to the kill-loot % drop, i believe the Mote of Life loot rate is probably close to 20%.

Im a tailor and need a $%^&load of all the primals for various things.
This morning, I got up, and watched the trilogy while I farmed motes. keep in mind, i was never interrupted the whole time and was not one other person was farming any of the areas.
During STAR WARS, I farmed motes of water at skettis. By the time the movie was over, I had 7.5 primals.
During EMPIRE, I farmed motes of fire in the western part of blades edge. Here I came away with 8.2 primals.
During JEDI, I farmed motes of life at the spawning ground in Zangamarsh. 9.1 primals.
During the BONUS DISC, I farmed motes of mana from the mobs north of area 52. 7.8 primals.
The droprates according to thottbot were very close to my observations (using mobinfo mod) and I farmed over a hundred of each mob during this time. The first two places, the droprates are higher (about 60% for water and fire taking into account drops of 2 motes about half the time) but the going was slower because the mobs are 70-71, more mana per figh, more downtime.
In skettis there are also other mobs that get in the way, and they're farther apart. In blades edge, only 8 fire elementals spawn, there are other mobs in the way (which drop motes of shadow - a bonus) and i tended to die once in a while (remember, I was watching TV so multiple adds would be a problem).
In netherstorm, the mobs are squishy but they drain mana. To make life simple, I basically fought them with like 1000 mana in my bar so by the time they tried to drain me, I was oom anyway.
Motes of life drop at around 20% given that you get 2 motes about half the time that a mote drops. But on the upside, as a 70 shadow priest with almost 700 bonus damage, these guys dont require much work to kill. Usually I had a pile of bodies around me 2 deep!
My point is, over the long haul... around 8 hours of nonstop farming, I came away with droprates that match thottbot very closely. The palces with higher droprates make up for it by either fewer mobs or other things that keep you from killing them very fast.
Anyway, I'm done farming for a good while.

Because I'm a tailor I farm for motes of life all the time. I'm not a herbalist, BTW, so all my drops come from kills. In my experience, some days you have a reasonable drop-rate (maybe 2 - 2.5 primals per hour), and other days they just never seem to drop. I farm for 30 mins, then if the drop-rate is too atrocious I leave it and come back later in the day or the next day. I have found the dead mire to be the best place, BTW. Just IMO...

It's a shame that Thott doesn't allow you to see the breakdown of drops based on mob level. If it did you might see something like this :
http://members.aol.com/thelrain/BL64.jpg
http://members.aol.com/thelrain/FG64.jpg
http://members.aol.com/thelrain/FG63.jpg
The level 64 Bog Lords and Fungal Giants in Quagg Ridge are 'THE' best source for farming motes. I farmed for about 2 hours and I got 5 Primals. Almost the entire 2nd hour I was picking my targets to get 200 kills of each above. I do NOT have herbalism so a good dps class with herbalism could get 5 primals an hour here. I got 3 primals my first hour and I had to take a break and go back to Shatt to sell. The second hour I wandered around and farmed the kills for this post. I am also a Holy spec'd priest so I gotta stop and drink after about 5 or 6 kills.
You will also notice that the lvl 64 Bog Giants also have a 6% drop rate on greens ( uncommons ).
The reason people don't like to farm here is the giants throw a spore mushroom that grows and when it blows up you take a DOT and have speed reduced. So it's not easily farmed with bot programs. But a little manual hard work pays off well here !
I'd like to see if there is a difference using herbalism on these based on mob level too. It would be great if someone could gather that info.

By far... the hands down number one place to farm motes of life is the elite tree elementals in skettis. Granted you have to be 70 with a flying mount to get to them and and an herbalist to skin them, but each kill yields 3-5 motes of life. They are on a pretty consistent spawn rate. There are four elementals to kill and if there is no one else to bother you, you can net uup too 2 primals per 10 minutes. They arent very tough to take down, you just need decent gear.

Been farming these for 2 hours and got like 8 primals. Dropped quite good in the beginning, but when I later logged in to continue the droprate "was the sux".
Bog Lords along with Fungal Giants (both lvl 63 and 64) seems to have the best droprate. Deadmire wasn't so good - try Quagg Ridge for the best farmingplace in Zangmarch. Oh, and Spawning Glen isn't an option. Worse then Deadmire.

Starving Fungal Giants in The Spawning Glen are indeed the best mobs for motes of life right now. One further tip: farm motes of life on an herbalist character if you have one. Motes of life can not only be looted from the corpses, but have a chance to drop when you perform gather herbs on the giants' corpses as well.
