Class Overview for Feral Druid Tank in Wrath of the Lich King
Unlike cat DPS, which was completely reworked from the ground up between TBC and WotLK, bear tanking will feel pretty much the same across the two expansions. The spec retains its core tanking strengths of a very high effective health pool (EHP) for soaking boss damage spikes, high single target Threat per second (TPS) and damage per second (DPS), and exceptional off-tanking capability due to the overlap between cat DPS and bear tanking talents + gear. WotLK changes also address pretty much all of the spec's weaknesses in TBC, providing bears with three useful defensive cooldowns and greatly improved AoE Threat generation. As a result, Feral tanks in WotLK will be capable of filling every conceivable tanking niche in 5-, 10-, and 25-man content, and can be leveraged as either main tanks or off-tanks in competitive raids throughout the expansion.
This being said, Feral tanks will no longer fill a
unique
raid niche like they did in TBC, since all four tanking classes were re-tuned in WotLK to generate more than adequate Threat even in heavy mitigation gear, and the introduction of dual specializations means that
战士
and
圣骑士
tanks can also off-tank effectively simply by respeccing to a DPS build mid-raid as needed. The absurd avoidance scaling of Feral tanks in TBC has also been heavily curtailed in WotLK due to the introduction of diminishing returns on avoidance stats, so bears will no longer take substantially less damage than other tanks. The normalization of Threat and mitigation performance across all tanking classes in WotLK means that class choice for tanks primarily becomes a matter of personal preference, so feel free to pick whichever tank spec is most fun for you to play, as the choice will not make a noticeable difference even in hardcore competitive raiding environments.
If you are the type of person who likes to choose your class based on its power in the current raid, we have prepared a Tier List that goes over the best Tank specs in the current raid tier and an explanation on why from our Class Writers.
WotLK PvE Tank Rankings
Class Changes for Feral Druid Tank in Wrath of the Lich King
Changes to existing abilities & talents
树皮术
—Now usable while shapeshifted, and no longer incurs a GCD.
猛击
—Now also functions as a PvE interrupt.
挑战咆哮
—Cooldown reduced from 10 minutes down to 3 minutes.
巨熊形态
—The armor multiplier from
巨熊形态
has been reduced from 5 to 4.7, and now only applies to the base (white) armor contribution from cloth and leather pieces. The second change in particular is a massive nerf to the total armor of Feral tanks, since cloaks, rings, and trinkets with bonus (green) armor allocation will no longer benefit from the
巨熊形态
multiplier. In practice, this means that bears will no longer hit the armor cap even when wearing high item level tanking gear, and their physical damage mitigation will be comparable to the plate-wearing tank specs.
激怒
—Buffed to now provide 30 total Rage rather than 20, and now front-loads 20 of that Rage immediately when cast even without
强烈
talented. On top of this,
激怒
also boosts the Druid's total DPS by 15% when active due to the new
丛林之王
talent, turning it into a powerful offensive cooldown for generating snap Threat at the start of a pull.
精灵之火(野性)
—Now deals considerable damage and generates significant bonus Threat when cast in
巨熊形态
. The damage dealt scales with 15% of the Druid's Attack Power, turning
精灵之火(野性)
into a staple tanking ability that should be cast on cooldown in the single target rotation for Feral tanks.
狂暴回复
—Significantly buffed to now restore 3% of the Druid's health every second, compared to a static 100 HPS in TBC. As a reference point, a Sunwell geared bear in the WotLK pre-patch will have around 25,300 raid buffed HP, so
狂暴回复
will provide around 760 HPS worth of healing when active, or 7.6 times more than the TBC version! The amount of healing provided will continue to scale with WotLK Stamina upgrades, changing
狂暴回复
from being borderline useless in TBC to becoming a staple defensive cooldown in a bear's WotLK toolkit.
低吼
—Range increased from 5 yards to 30 yards, and cooldown reduced from 10 seconds to 8 seconds.
裂伤(熊)
—The 1.3x Threat modifier on this ability has been removed in WotLK.
重殴
—The bonus additive damage done by this ability has been increased significantly in WotLK. On top of this, total
重殴
damage is scaled up by a whopping
87%
since it now benefits from the
裂伤(熊)
debuff, the reworked
野蛮暴怒
talent, and the new
狂乱撕扯
talent.
横扫(熊)
—No longer capped to only 3 targets, which is a
massive
buff to AoE Threat generation for bears.
野性本能
—The global Threat increase provided by the TBC version of this talent (
野性本能
) is now passively baked into all
巨熊形态
abilities, and the talent instead provides a significant boost to
横扫(熊)
damage.
厚皮
—Mirroring the change to the
巨熊形态
armor multiplier, this talent now only applies to the base (white) armor contribution from cloth and leather pieces, and no longer boosts bonus (green) armor on cloaks, rings, and trinkets itemized for tanks.
猛兽攻击
—Now also boosts the Attack Power contribution from equipped weapons by an additional 20%.
野蛮冲撞
—Now also halves the cooldown of
猛击
.
野性之心
—The Stamina increase provided by this talent when in
巨熊形态
has been nerfed from 20% to only 10%.
适者生存
—Both the total stat boost and the crit suppression provided by this talent have been doubled from 3% to 6%. This means that Feral tanks are now completely immune to critical strikes from raid bosses even with 0 Defense Rating or Resilience Rating from gear. In addition, the talent now buffs the
巨熊形态
armor multiplier by 33%, which more than counteracts the 6% nerf to the base multiplier mentioned above.
兽群领袖
—The 5% Crit buff provided by Feral Druids is now raid-wide rather than restricted to a single party, and its range has been buffed from 45 yards to 100 yards. However, an identical buff is now provided by Fury
战士
s (
暴怒
), and the two effects do not stack.
狩猎天性
—The critical damage bonus and AoE damage reduction provided by this talent no longer apply in
巨熊形态
.
原始坚韧
—Similar to the
狩猎天性
change, this talent no longer provides any mitigation against stuns in
巨熊形态
.
强化野性印记
—Collapsed down from 5 to 2 talent points, and now also boosts all attributes by 2% (stacking multiplicatively with the 6% boost from
适者生存
). These changes make
强化野性印记
worth talenting in any WotLK Feral build.
清晰预兆
—Now a passive effect rather than a self-cast buff. In addition,
节能施法
can no longer proc from special abilities in
巨熊形态
, but its proc rate from auto-attacks in
巨熊形态
has been more than doubled to compensate.
While the sheer quantity of spell and talent changes listed above can be daunting to process, the overall impact of the changes is simply to re-tune the Threat and mitigation toolkit of Feral tanks to more closely match that of the three plate-wearing tank classes. On the offensive axis, the changes to
横扫(熊)
and
野性本能
finally give bears the ability to hold sustained aggro on large AoE pulls in dungeons and raids, which was previously achievable only for Protection
圣骑士
tanks. Likewise, while single target TPS for Feral tanks was already superb in TBC, the WotLK changes to
精灵之火(野性)
and
激怒
significantly boost the
burst Threat ceiling
that a bear can generate immediately at the start of a pull, helping to counteract opening pull variance from an initial
裂伤(熊)
miss. Coupled with the massive buffs to
重殴
Threat, these adjustments make it nearly impossible for a skilled Feral tank in WotLK to lose aggro even to highly competitive DPS players, allowing bears to focus primarily on survivability in their gearing priorities.
On the defensive side of things, the substantial nerf to bear armor values from the
巨熊形态
and
厚皮
changes is intended to rein in the physical mitigation of Ferals to match that of comparably geared plate tanks. While this does unfortunately kill the spec's niche as the premier physical damage tank in the game, the nerfs are offset by the fact that
树皮术
and
狂暴回复
are finally usable as defensive cooldowns while tanking, thereby eliminating the primary defensive weakness of the spec in TBC. Druids finally have active control over their own survivability in WotLK, which will become increasingly important as boss damage ramps up in later phases of the expansion. Along the same lines, the
适者生存
buff is another tuning change that counteracts the lack of dedicated leather tanking gear itemized with Defense Rating. In TBC, this lack of PvE itemization forced Feral tanks to rely heavily on Resilience Rating from PvP gear for crit immunity, but this is thankfully no longer necessary in WotLK since uncrittability is now baseline from Feral talents.
New abilities & talents
狂暴
—Powerful offensive cooldown that massively raises the snap Threat ceiling for Feral tanks at the start of a boss pull by allowing the player to spam
裂伤(熊)
, the highest Threat ability in the bear toolkit, continuously for 15 seconds before reverting to the standard single target rotation.
野蛮防御
—New passive ability that gives Feral tanks an analog to the Block mechanic for
战士
and
圣骑士
tanks. The effective "block chance" is set by the bear's crit chance and melee attack speed, while the effective "block value" is set by the bear's Attack Power. As a result, melee DPS stats like Strength, Critical Strike Rating, and Haste Rating now provide mitigation value to Ferals in addition to their impact on Threat generation.
生存本能
—WotLK also gives Feral Druids their own version of the
战士
破釜沉舟
defensive cooldown, which is invaluable both as a reactive tool in the event of an unlucky damage spike, and as a pre-emptive tool to increase your available health buffer when anticipating an upcoming boss special ability.
强化裂伤
—New single target Threat talent that lets you cast
裂伤(熊)
once every three GCDs rather than four conventionally.
感染伤口
—New attack speed and movement speed debuff that can be passively applied when attacking a target. This talent is typically skipped in PvE builds since the same attack speed debuff can be applied by
战士
s (
强化雷霆一击
), Protection
圣骑士
s (
正义审判
), and
死亡骑士
s (
强化冰冷触摸
), but it is invaluable in a PvP setting.
自然反射
—Hefty avoidance boost that is particularly valuable because it is not subject to diminishing returns, unlike Dodge from gear. The talent's secondary effect of regenerating Rage when you dodge is also a nice quality of life benefit when tanking trash mobs, as dodges will be quite frequent in AoE tanking scenarios.
原始血瘀
—Allows
割伤
bleed damage to scale with Crit on top of its existing Attack Power scaling.
原始精准
—Free source of Expertise, which is by far the highest value Threat stat for Feral tanks when under the soft cap of 6.5%.
兽群卫士
—Hybrid Threat + mitigation talent that simultaneously increases your DPS/TPS output and substantially reduces incoming damage. Importantly, the 12% damage reduction applies not only to physical attacks but also to incoming spell casts, which become an increasingly large fraction of the total burst damage output from raid bosses as the expansion progresses.
变形大师
—Flat 4% physical damage boost in
巨熊形态
, which stacks multiplicatively with the 10% boost from
自然主义
.
The new abilities introduced in WotLK fill pretty much all of the previously missing holes in the Feral toolkit from TBC. Bears now possess a strong offensive cooldown for snap Threat, a
破釜沉舟
effect,
and
some much needed spell damage mitigation, giving them all of the tools necessary for competitive PvE performance as a main tank across the full range of encounters in WotLK raids. Importantly,
the combination of
野蛮防御
and
兽群卫士
more than compensates for the significantly lower bear armor and avoidance values in WotLK
. As a reference point, Sunwell geared bears will take about 8%
less
damage on average when tanking
布鲁塔卢斯
in the pre-patch compared to Phase 5 of TBC, despite losing almost 8,000 armor and 5% avoidance!
Class Viability for Feral Druid Tank in Wrath of the Lich King
As mentioned in the overview at the start of this guide, the most important thing to recognize when evaluating the viability of tank specs in WotLK is that
every single tanking class is more than capable of tanking all of the content in the game at an extremely high level in a competitive raid environment
. This is a stark departure from prior Classic WoW expansions, where there were clear differences in how the specs performed on one or more axes that influenced how they were valued in competitive raids. For example, Protection
战士
tanks were unpopular in competitive
黑暗神殿
and
太阳之井高地
clears in TBC due to their poor Threat scaling, while Protection
圣骑士
tanks were considered mandatory in any TBC raid comp since they were the only tank spec that could effectively AoE tank. In WotLK, the developers deliberately tuned every tank class to minimize such obvious hierarchies in performance. All 4 classes will have more than enough single target and AoE TPS to hold off competitive DPS players, comparable damage mitigation and gear scaling, and a full set of offensive and defensive cooldowns at their disposal. As a result, spec identity will have almost no relevance relative to differences in player skill when evaluating the quality of a WotLK tank.
With the above caveat in mind, the primary metrics to look at when forecasting the "optimal" tank choices for competitive WotLK raids are
(a)
the unique raid buffs and debuffs provided by each spec, and
(b)
the personal DPS of each spec both when actively tanking and not, since the usual axes of comparison like Threat and survivability are functionally irrelevant in WotLK (assuming competent players of equal skill). Based on
(a)
alone, Protection
圣骑士
tanks are expected to be the most popular tank choice in WotLK simply due to the insanely high buff density of the
圣骑士
class. Each Paladin in a raid comp provides an additional Blessing to each player, and the Protection spec provides a
unique
Blessing option (
庇护祝福
) as well as an additional unique raid cooldown
神圣守护者
, both of which significantly reduce overall raid damage and allow for fewer required healers in the comp. In contrast, the two highest value raid buffs provided by Feral
德鲁伊
tanks are not unique: Fury
战士
s provide an alternative source of a Feral's 5% Crit buff via the
暴怒
talent, while Arms
战士
s provide an alternative source of the Mangle debuff via the
创伤
talent. By the same token, running a bear tank and cat DPS simultaneously in the same raid comp will also be suboptimal, since the second Feral adds no additional raid utility.
Given these constraints, current theorycrafting suggests that, similar to TBC, the optimal way to leverage a single Feral Druid in WotLK speedruns will continue to be as an off-tank performing the "Tank 2" role. However, unlike TBC raids, where a significant fraction of boss encounters required multiple dedicated tanks, 2-tank fights will be the exception rather than the rule in WotLK, with most fights solo tanked even at their hardest difficulties. This means that the personal DPS of off-tanks when not actively tanking will be even more important for WotLK speedruns than it was in TBC, making Ferals highly attractive for this role due to the impressive performance of cat DPS on boss fights. Importantly, Ferals can tank at over 90% effectiveness in a primarily DPS-optimized talent build, allowing them to DPS for the majority of a speedrun and tank only when required without incurring the 10 second time loss for an in-raid respec. This characteristic is also shared by Frost
死亡骑士
s, and both specs are expected to be competitive choices for the "Tank 2" slot in high DPS environments. In contrast, assuming that a Protection
圣骑士
co-tank is used due to the external buffs they provide, it will be optimal to utilize them as a main tank rather than off-tank as much as possible, since the Paladin's DPS potential when not tanking will be substantially lower than that of a Feral or Death Knight,
especially
if the raid is moving fast enough to avoid in-raid respecs.
Class Mechanics for Feral Druid Tank in Wrath of the Lich King
EHP
Effective health pool, or EHP, is one of the primary metrics by which to measure the "tankiness" of a character. EHP tracks the
worst case survivability
of a tank, and is most relevant when tanking hard hitting bosses with spiky damage output. Specifically, a tank's EHP divided by the largest hit they might receive from a boss tells us the maximum number of worst case hits that can be soaked without heals before the tank dies. For example, let's suppose a bear with 108,000 EHP is tanking
帕奇维克
, whose melee swing hits for a maximum of around 27,000 unmitigated damage once the boss is enraged. The EHP number thus tells us that the tank can survive a maximum of 4 sequential enraged hits before dying. EHP is an important metric to optimize as a tank because it provides buffer room against bad luck, giving healers time to react and keep the tank alive.
EHP is calculated as:
H / (1 - r)
, where
H
is the total raid buffed HP of the tank, and
r
is their fractional damage mitigation from armor, talents, and raid buffs. For example, a Sunwell geared bear with 26,600 raid buffed armor will have around 61.5% mitigation from armor against a level 83 raid boss (
rarmor = 0.615
), 12% mitigation from
兽群卫士
, and 3% mitigation from
庇护祝福
, which multiply together to yield 67% total damage reduction (or
r = 0.67
). The relationship between damage mitigation and armor is
rarmor = A / (A + 16635)
, where
A
is the fully raid buffed armor value in
巨熊形态
. In these formulas, we see that the only stats that can increase the worst case EHP of a tank are Stamina and Armor (from both gear and Agility), which makes sense because avoidance stats are irrelevant when considering the worst case outcome where none of the hits are avoided. Due to their naturally elevated Stamina levels, bears are expected to have the highest EHP of the tank specs throughout WotLK, but the nerfs to
巨熊形态
and
厚皮
armor scaling rein in bear EHP levels to be much closer to the plate-wearing tanks than they were in TBC.
Avoidance
In addition to armor, which reduces the damage dealt by each boss swing, the other key way to reduce a tank's damage taken per second (DTPS) is by reducing the fraction of swings that land successfully. In Classic WoW, there are three ways for an attempted melee attack to be unsuccessful: the attacker can miss the target entirely, the target can dodge the blow, or the target can parry the attack. A tank's
total avoidance
is defined as the sum of these Miss, Dodge, and Parry stats when raid buffed. Bear tanks cannot parry unlike Warriors, Paladins, and Death Knights, so only Miss and Dodge apply when optimizing avoidance.
A level 83 raid boss has a base 4.4% change to miss a level 80 player with no Defense Rating. The only way to increase this further from gear is via additional Defense; each point of Defense Rating increases the boss miss chance by 0.008%. The other way to significantly increase boss miss chance is via the raid debuffs
虫群
or
毒蝎钉刺
, which both increase Miss by 3% but do not stack with one another. The 3% Miss debuff is tremendously impactful when the tank already has a lot of base avoidance, which is especially the case for Feral tanks in later phases, so it is worth lobbying for a Balance
德鲁伊
or
猎人
to keep it up.
Raid buffed Feral Druids in
太阳之井高地
gear will have around a 30% change to dodge melee attacks from a level 83 raid boss, which then increases with every WotLK raid tier. Dodge chance can be enhanced by three stats: Defense Rating, Dodge Rating, and Agility. Each point of Defense Rating provides 0.008% Dodge (in addition to its effect on Miss), each point in Dodge Rating provides 0.022% Dodge, and each point in Agility provides 0.021% Dodge. The
豹之迅捷
and
自然反射
talents provide an additional 10% Dodge on top of this.
WotLK introduces a mechanic called
diminishing returns
on all avoidance stats in order to counteract a fundamental scaling issue with avoidance in prior expansions. In TBC, avoidance stats exhibited
increasing returns
in their value: each additional 1% Dodge provided more value for tank survival than the previous. This resulted in tanks (especially high avoidance tanks like Feral Druids) scaling far better with gear than desired, so much so that the
太阳之井的光辉
aura needed to be implemented so that mitigation gear would continue to be relevant for tanks at the end of the expansion. In WotLK, avoidance stats have been re-worked so that each point in Defense Rating, Dodge Rating, and Agility provides less of a % Dodge and % Miss increase than the previous in order to counteract this effect. In practice, all this means is that avoidance stats on gear have roughly constant value for tank survival across the entire expansion, rather than fluctuating in value based on your current gear. The stat conversions for Dodge and Miss mentioned above are applied prior to the diminishing returns mechanic.
Defensive Cooldowns
While gearing for high EHP and avoidance helps improve your
passive
survivability while tanking, WotLK finally provides Feral tanks with an
active
way to boost their survival chance via three strong defensive cooldowns:
生存本能
,
树皮术
, and
狂暴回复
. Especially during the early stages of progression in a raid tier, when tanks are relatively under-geared for the content, these cooldowns are very helpful for easing the tank healing burden while the raid learns boss mechanics. Even when bosses are on farm, these abilities can function as "bad luck protection" to prevent tank deaths in the event of unlucky damage spikes such as a long string of unavoided swings. By the end of the expansion,
Heroic
difficulty bosses in
冰冠堡垒
will be tuned directly around defensive cooldown usage, and most raid encounters will feature "tank buster" mechanics like
's
灵魂收割
that
require
tanks to pop their defensive abilities preemptively in order to survive. As a result, learning the right times to use each of your three defensives in a given boss encounter will become a key element of raid progression on hard mode difficulties, and will be the primary differentiator between an exceptional tank and a mediocre one (regardless of class or spec). Generally speaking,
生存本能
is the cooldown of choice when anticipating or responding to a temporary
burst
damage spike, while
树皮术
and
狂暴回复
are better suited for periods of
sustained
damage increase relative to your available healing.
Threat
In addition to gearing for survivability and reducing damage taken in an encounter, the second key responsibility of a tank is to keep the mob's attention (or aggro) away from DPS and healers. World of Warcraft uses a Threat value for each player on a given mob to determine which player has aggro and takes hits from the mob. Maintaining higher Threat than all of the DPS in the raid is just as important as survivability, especially in the Classic WoW meta where DPS has been tightly optimized compared to original WotLK.
Bear tanks generate Threat primarily by dealing damage, since the Threat value of the key bear abilities
裂伤(熊)
,
精灵之火(野性)
,
重殴
, and
横扫(熊)
is tied directly to their damage. This means that defensive stats such as Stamina and Dodge are not the only valuable tanking stats for Feral Druids, and DPS stats such as Attack Power, Haste, Crit, Hit, Expertise, and Armor Penetration also provide tanking value. Compared to vanilla WoW and TBC, however, the balance between DPS stats and survival stats in a gear set can be shifted way more towards the defensive axis in WotLK, due to massive buffs in the Threat modifiers on most
巨熊形态
abilities. As a result, a skilled Feral player will be able to generate more than enough TPS to hold aggro against any DPS spec in the game simply by wearing high item level tanking gear and executing the rotation correctly, without needing to specifically prioritize Threat stats in their gear set.
Rage
Rage is the primary in-combat resource used by bear tanks to generate Threat. Unlike Mana, which starts high and is depleted slowly over the course of an encounter, or Energy, which regenerates rapidly on a fixed server tick and is spent immediately, Rage is
actively
generated by the player by dealing or taking damage. Therefore, Rage generation is directly tied to both the offensive and defensive stats on the tank's gear. At level 80, bears generate 1 Rage for every 180 damage
taken from
a mob, and generate 1 Rage for every 120 damage
dealt to
a mob from auto-attacks (white damage). The Rage is then spent on special abilities (yellow damage), and it is up to the player to manage the TPS rotation so that the Rage consumption rate matches the generation rate. In order of priority, Feral tanks in WotLK should spend their Rage first on
裂伤(熊)
so that it is applied on cooldown, and then spend the remaining Rage to cast
重殴
as frequently as possible while maintaining 5 stacks of the
割伤
DoT. If enough Rage is generated purely from incoming damage to replace every single auto-attack with a
重殴
, then the remainder can be dumped by filling any open GCDs with
横扫(熊)
. Since a sizable fraction of Rage generation comes from incoming damage, mitigation stats such as Armor and Dodge actually have a negative impact on bear TPS, as they reduce the Rage that is available for casting Threat generating abilities.
Strengths & Weaknesses for Feral Druid Tank in Wrath of the Lich King
Strengths
High EHP complemented by strong defensive cooldowns
High single target DPS when tanking
Brings a unique raid healing buff not provided by other specs (
强化兽群领袖
)
Can off-tank at high effectiveness in speedruns without the need to respec mid-raid
Weaknesses
Limited toolkit for AoE pulls
No unique raid DPS buffs/debuffs
More susceptible to opening pull variance than
死亡骑士
tanks

Alliance
暗夜精灵
is the only race option for Alliance
德鲁伊
s. In a PvE setting, Alliance is the superior faction for Feral tanks due to the
迅捷
racial, which provides the Druid with a free 2% avoidance that is not subject to diminishing returns (and therefore quite a bit better than 2% Dodge from gear). In PvP, the Alliance advantage is even more noticeable, as the
影遁
racial has been buffed substantially in WotLK to be usable while already in combat, effectively giving Night Elf Druids a proxy
消失
cooldown that is invaluable for tactical resets in Arena matches and for juking incoming spell casts.
Horde
牛头人
is the only race option for Horde
德鲁伊
s. Unfortunately, the previously amazing
牛头人
racial trait
耐久
has been nerfed to the ground in WotLK. Rather than boosting the tank's
total
HP by 5% like it did in vanilla and TBC,
耐久
now only provides a flat 370 HP increase at level 80 that does not scale with gear. In PvP,
战争践踏
remains a useful cooldown for opening up crowd control windows, but is less consequential compared to TBC due to the
自然迅捷
effect provided by the new version of the
猛兽攻击
talent, which allows Ferals on either faction to fire off instant
旋风
or
纠缠根须
casts without the need for a pre-stun.
Best Professions for Feral Druid Tank in Wrath of the Lich King
Engineering
If you are a returning Classic WoW player, it should come as no surprise that Engineering continues to be the absolute best PvE profession by a landslide for pretty much any class in WotLK. Just like TBC, WotLK brings with it a new set of upgraded explosives,
通用热力工程炸药
and
萨隆邪铁炸弹
, which offer the highest total damage increase across a full raid clear of any profession option. Especially in a speedrun environment, Sappers are a strong DPS cooldown for AoE trash packs, and also generate significant AoE snap Threat since they benefit from the global 2.07x Threat modifier on all
巨熊形态
abilities. Even when tanking a single target raid boss, having an explosive cooldown available is a bear tank's most effective response to opening pull variance from an initial
精灵之火(野性)
or
裂伤(熊)
miss. For Feral Druids in particular, Engineering explosives are even more valuable in WotLK than in prior expansions because they can now be used when shapeshifted, meaning that they no longer need to be incorporated into powershift macros and therefore no longer cost a GCD to use. In addition to its raw damage contribution from explosives, Engineering in WotLK also offers a uniquely powerful movement speed cooldown in the form of the
硝化甘油推进器
enchant, which gives
any pair of tanking boots
the same effect as
超级火箭靴
from TBC! It cannot be overstated how much utility
硝化甘油推进器
provide over the course of a competitive raid clear, whether by saving you several seconds of lost uptime on boss encounters with movement mechanics, or by unlocking raid-wide trash skips that would not be possible otherwise. Finally, Engineering also provides Ferals with two other profession-exclusive enchants that are best in slot for tanking:
思维放大圆盘
and
装甲护网
.
Jewelcrafting
Assuming that you have opted for Engineering as one of your professions,
it should be
strongly
emphasized that your second profession choice has almost no impact in WotLK
. Every single crafting profession in WotLK was tuned to provide roughly 60 Stamina worth of added stats for tanks via unique profession benefits. This means that the differences between any two non-Engineering professions are
extremely
minor and will not have a noticeable impact on your PvE performance, so even highly competitive tank players are encouraged to pick their second profession based purely on personal preference. With this caveat in mind, the mathematically optimal choice for your second profession is technically Jewelcrafting. This is because Jewelcrafting provides a very slightly higher total stat increase than other professions via its unique gems (63 Stamina worth of stat budget rather than the standard 60), and more importantly, allows the player to customize that stat budget as desired for a particular gear set. For Feral tanks, this means that you can choose to use your exclusive gems to boost your Expertise instead for improved snap Threat, whereas a generic crafting profession like Enchanting provides its bonus stats only in the form of Stamina or Attack Power.

Wasn't the ability for druids to use potions while in form added in WotLK?
Seems kinda worth mentioning if so...
