Recommended Windwalker Monk WeakAuras
WeakAuras2 is an extremely flexible addon, with near limitless creative potential and control, capable of replicating or replacing nearly any part of the user interface. While designed as a simple way to create alerts to remind you of buffs, debuff, or encounter mechanics, it has become an integral part of World of Warcraft user interface customization, allowing players to replace their traditional action bars, create and share complex raid information, track other players spell casts, and much, much more. In this section, we've highlighted some of the best WeakAuras for Windwalker Monk, although there are so many different options available that we
highly
recommend visiting
wago.io
to find one that best suits your needs.
Useful Windwalker Monk WeakAuras
Remember that no Weakauras are ever mandatory to play with, but they can help condense a lot of information into a small, easy-to-track package. These are some sample sets that cover the Windwalker basics which are plug and play, or can be used for some inspiration when setting up your own set:
Name & Link
Example
Description
Babylonius's WeakAura Package
WeakAura group created by Babylonius (author of this guide), aimed at having all you need to play Windwalker.
JeremyUI Package
Fabulous addon developed by Jeremy that mimics the priority recommendations of an addon like Hekili, but does so using constantly updating math to determine the best ability to press following a variety of factors. Also includes other information like cooldowns, health and resource tracking, and tons of other useful things.
Last Ability/Mastery Tracker
Tracks the last ability you used in order to minimize mistakes with Mastery. Turns red when a mistake is made, turns blue when an ability is dodged, parried, or misses. Also has a handy sound effect you can turn on or off to let you know when you messed up.
SCK/MotC Tracker
Tracks how many targets are within range of your Spinning Crane Kick (right) and how many targets are currently tagged by Mark of the Crane (left). Turns Red when you can get more Mark of the Crane Stacks, or Green when you cannot.
Diffuse Magic Dispeller
Gives you a warning when you have a debuff on you that can be dispelled or reflected using
Diffuse Magic
in Mythic/Mythic+ dungeons.
Luxthos' Monk Package
A dynamic package that will cover all of the main things you need to track for Monk abilities and rotation in a lightweight group. Luxthos also creates similar packages for all other classes, so this is recommended for beginners and experienced players who play many different characters.
Recommended Windwalker Monk Macros
Macros are simple, in-game tools which allow you to sequence spells together, create custom names and icons, cast different abilities depending on whether the target is friendly or hostile, define targeting conditions, and much, much more.
For more information on creating macros, including full lists of conditionals, modifiers, and other command customizations you can use, check out our full Macros guide.
These can be created in the Macros window by simply copy and pasting the coded code into the creator. These will perform specific actions above the regular button presses that can alleviate some targeting issues or ability problems by automating part of the ability:
Focus Cast Macros
Windwalker has a number of spells you may want to target using the /Focus targetting option. You can replace the
sample text
in the macro below with spells such as
Spear Hand Strike
,
Paralysis
, or
Detox
depending on your preference:
#showtooltip
/cast Sample Text
Mouseover Macros
In some cases being able to cast spells/heals on targets without having to switch targets is extremely useful. You can use the following macro to make the desired spell cast on the target you are currently mousing over instead of your active target. Replace the
sample text
with the desired spell name:
#showtooltip
/cast Sample Text
Ring of Peace Placement
The following two macros will place
Ring of Peace
without having to use a targeting circle to do so The first will place if at your feet when pressed immediately:
#showtooltip
/cast Ring of Peace
And this will place it where your cursor is currently targeting:
#showtooltip
/cast Ring of Peace
Don't Clip
#showtooltip Tiger Palm
/stopmacro
/stopmacro
/stopmacro
/cast Tiger Palm
Change
Tiger Palm
to whatever ability you want. This macro prevents you from cancelling the channel of
Fists of Fury
,
Crackling Jade Lightning
, and
Spinning Crane Kick
early and missing a tick of damage. It is recommended to use this on your main rotational abilities as its very very unlikely that we'll look to cancel these abilities. If, for whatever reason, you want to be able to cancel one or all of these abilities, simply omit that line from the macro.
Recommended Windwalker Monk Addons
Addons are powerful tools that can customize your gameplay experience, ranging from graphical overlays, replacement action bars, and unit/raid frames to performance enhancements such as rotation helping spell reminders, buff/debuff tracking, popup reminders, and boss warnings. Here are some of the highly recommended and commonly used Windwalker Monk addons, which are certainly not required to play, but can go a long way toward increasing the information available to you in combat or simply make for a more pleasant viewing experience.
Unlike Macros, managing Addons is done outside of the game, but our How to Install and Maintain Addons Guide will take you step-by-step through the process.
Hekili
: For players who are looking for a rotation helper,
Hekili
can provide a powerful tool using imported SimulationCraft profiles to generate a guideline for your next button presses in the priority sequence. This is useful for new and experienced players alike to give some assistance grasping the rotation and is well maintained.
Due to the complexity and pre-planning typically needed for Windwalker combined with the difficulty of crafting a perfect and comprehensive APL, we do not recommended that you rely on Hekili if it can be avoided. If you feel the need for an addon to tell you what to press, then we recommend the above
JeremyUI Package
as it doesn't rely on an APL and adjusts to your specific character.
BossMods
: BossMods are addons that show you a timer of upcoming boss abilities and make noises if you stand in fire. You can choose between
Deadly Boss Mods
and
BigWigs
. I would recommend BigWigs.
Damage meter
:
Skada
or Details are the perfect addons to let you check the damage you and your raid member do. These addons are also useful to track interrupts, dispels or deaths.
Download UI
: If you don't want to make your own UI you can also download UI packages. The most common recommendation is to use ElvUI. ElvUI is a replacement for the standard Blizzard UI that is very easy to configure and a lot of high-end raiders are using. Check wago.io for profiles, or check out streamers on Twitch.
