Turning in 3 AB marks gives you 50 rep.
Turning in 3 of every BG marks (for great honor / concerted efforts ) gives you 100 AB rep (along with 100 to WSG and 150 to AV).

Beware those new to AB, the reputation here build MUCH slower than Alterac Valley, and that is apparent when comparing the available items at the exalted level.
The best way to achieve exalted (imo) is to start early and continue doing occasional AB as you level up. If you are at least partially through honored by the time you hit 60, then exalted won't be so painful. Once at 60 the best way through revered is to get some premade groups and alternate between AB and possibly WSG. When turning in marks try to get 3 from each BG that way the value of each individual mark is increased.

With patch 2.0.1 battleground marks are now part of purchasing the PVP gear, along with honor. Also note that you can hold up to 100 of any battleground's marks!

A good idea to not lose a node during a fight is to fight beside your teams captured node and hit anyone who tries to cap it, do not chase runners and keep fighting on the road at a minimum (the nodes are the whole point of the game not having the most kills).

Like WSG, Arathi Basin is not won by kills, but by resources. Capturing and defending nodes are often not done enough, and results in losses. Many Alliance players often complain of losing - this is not because of horde twinks, or anything similar, but because of poor leadership. I have won many games before as Alliance when teamwork was done.
-Capturing Nodes.
This is a must. You cannot win with no nodes, you don't get any resources.
However, don't just capture the nearest point you see.
Try to capture nodes which are strategically useful, and look for weaknesses. If 10 enemies are defending BS, don't keep zerging it with teammates; loop around to GM, and capture that instead. Capture points to keep enemy confused and on the move all the time. Don't try to be heroic and capture something all by yourself, or race to capture it first. Work as a team.
Capture strategically, not honorably.
Only 3 are needed, and ST+BS+LM or Farm+BS+LM is a strong combo. Try getting BS if possible, it is easy to defend and retake if taken.
-Defending
Fighting nomad fashion is no use. Just capturing a base does not win the game, it's keeping a point. Defending is a must, and with a team of 15 where 3 is required to win, 5 per point is enough to hold back most assaults.
Respond to 'incs', but at the same time only say 'inc' if it is serious. If you are level 49 and you see some level 40 trying to capture a base, chances are you can kill him/her. Do not spam BG chat by saying 'inc' every time you see an enemy.
Try to go to serious incs as fast as possible, if the point you are defending is fine. A good team moves their troops around and pushes back all assaults, meanwhile keeping at least 3 or 4 at each point for defence.
Another point - if a base is lost, it's lost. If 10 horde are capturing Stables, let it go, it's not the end of the world. Don't keep sending waves of 5 to attack them, it is a waste of time and troops. Instead, while they are occupied at Stables, go around to all the other bases, as they will not be well-defended.
Do not go off and farm HKs, or try to charge into 10 enemies heroically. It can be boring to just defend, but winning gives far more honour and joy. A good team can have a lot of fun working together, and is far better than losing again and again, dying thousands of times on the way.
Do not flee. If you die, you die.

From my experiences, the key to winning in Arathi Basin is to seize 3 nodes, but soecifically to try to take the Blacksmith first and foremost, then pairing it with the capture of two other nodes. Though it is quite possible to win without taking the Blacksmith, it will make your defensive strategy more difficult.
There are two basic ways to hold your 3 nodes, either in a "triangle" pattern which includes the Blacksmith (such as having Stables, Mine, and Blacksmith), or to have a "line" pattern which tends to not include the Blacksmith (such as having Stables, Mine, and Farm).
Of these, the "Triangle" is vastly easier to defend, since you can keep a small group at each flag while everyone else roams around and responding to incomings from the opposing team. Your ability to speedily reinforce any 3 of the nodes in this triangle pattern is considerable, and an opponent would have to engage in a very fast and brutal zerg to be able to overrun part of this triangle, which often leaves the opponent vulnerable in another area, where your team can then launch a counterattack, re-establishing the position.
The "line" however is much more difficult to defend, since you have two nodes at extreme ends of the map, which makes them vulnerable to attack. In the case of defending in this fashion, it is best to keep the bulk of your response team at the "middle" node in the line (aka, if you held Stables, Mine, and Farm, your response team should camp the mines largely) so that they can respond to an attack quickly on either of the extreme ends of your position. This position is vulnerable since the enemy can shift attacks on one of the extreme ends, then attack the other before your response team can arrive.
In any case, the key to winning in AB is to sieze your 3 nodes quickly, to have all of your defenders call out any incoming attacks upon those nodes, and to have a rapid response team to reinforce those nodes under attack.

Hey,
This was always one of my favuorite strategies.
First you need a premade 15 man to pull this off if you are allaince. PuG's on the alliance side have no coordination, and dislike eachother.
Second, you need a group of 7. Make sure they are rather skilled, because these players will be of most use to you.
Thirdly, you need 2 groups of four. One group to keep teh lumber mill okay, and the other to keep the mine defended. If necessary only go for a 3 - 2 win instead of the 4 - 1. In that case, one to defend stables, and the other mines. Make sure that these two groups are evenly distributed with class sets. Do not stock up on one class, and none on the other. Have say, a drui, preist, pally, and warrior on one, and maybe a rogue, mage, pally, and preist on the other, for example.
Now, on to the group of 7. You need to keep this group as coordinated as possible. Teamspeak is almost a must, unless you have been doing this for a while. (What you are about to read is the 4 node to 1 node strategy) You need to keep these 7 bouncing from Stable to Blacksmith, Stable to Blacksmith. Keep say, 4 at BS nad 3 at stables, and when one is in large enough trouble, bring almost all, say 6, or all 7, to that posission. And fight it off, and the return to the original posts. Now, if one spot that is being defended by four, such as the mines is under attack, and it is almost all of the enemy, bring most or all of yer group of 7 to aid them, and then return the 4 to BS, and 3 to Stables.
Keep this up until you reach 2000.
(3 to 2 node version.)
Keep the BS, LM (Lumber Mill) and Stables. Put the group of 7 at the BS, and the other to groups at the stables and LM. It is very similar to the 4 to 1 version, where the group of seven goes to aid whichever is being overrun too much, and then returns to the original node.

for most, getting rep for this battle ground will be the toughest. at the end, the rewards are worth it i guess. with the new patch and all, the rep that i grinded for those shoulders seem like a pure waste of time.
with the new patch however, grinding this battle grind is a must, for mages atleast. that high warlord's spell blade is obtainable in a week or two. good luck with the grind

When you have captured a base, stay there! And, once your faction has captured 3 bases, keep them, stay on defense! At this rate, if the other faction has less then half their points by the time you capture 3 bases, you will win the round!

The concept of defending 3 nodes seems impossible to some people. For whatever reason they just can't quite grasp the subject. Premade AB groups are the way to go.

i personally think that if your a rogue you should be defending and not being offensive. (no fair for night elves they can go stealthed withought moving if their not a rogue) i also think at least one healer per node. (very useful against several enemies.)

Rogues defending is, at least i think, in any well orginized raid is simply what they need to do. They can stall people from getting the flag when out numbered and get the jump on anyone who come to get it. Of course holding the bases you captured is a must and the rogues are best fitted for it.

When playing AB, you need to have a leader. It doesn't matter what level they are - what matters is how well he can plan things. If someone is obviously a better leader, give him the honour. A leader should not abuse his power - besides, it's his game too, it's his choice to win or not.
A team without a good leader often fails, as it is quite hard to do teamwork. A level 49 (out of lvl 40-49) is not always better at ordering where groups should go as a level 40.
Groups are often overlooked. Use them well. With 3 groups of 5, you can easily assign them to guard different posts. All the players have to do is check which group they are in, and correspond to the leader's tactics.

If you are a mage, remember to use slow fall and blink to your great advantage.
Jumping off from LM has 3 great reasons -
a) Escaping cleverly. Only engineers with their parachutes and others who have bought them can jump down, but they will probably not waste their cooldown.
b) Strategically. You can jump off from LM if there are lots of enemy there and then go to capture BS, or other points close-by.
c) Lemmings! You can get a trail of hungry melee classes desperate to kill you, and lead them off the cliff as well. Always fun to do.
If you have no feathers, blink just before you fall. But be careful - you are furthur away from the ground as it looks.
Another place is to jump down to GM. This is mainly for strategical uses, as you can sneak down and capture the point, while they are busy fighting off assaults from Stables or Farm.
Use these spells to your advantage, they have short cooldowns.

Maybe its me but there are several choke points along this map when you have certain sets of bases, for example. If you are defending BS, LM and Farm, you can put several at the fork in the road and only leave 1 back to call out rogue or someone trying to run all the way around. From BS you can do the same by holding the part between stables/mine. Again people are rezing at stables or mine so cutting off is just as important as attacking the mines or stables. In that scenario you can take the 3 players defending farm/bs/mill and put them at the fork in the road. Everyone else can zerg the mine. It takes good coordination, but can be done with pugs if you control them a little.
Of course there are ways through the water and such, but seeing as you can pretty much see the whole area from the choke points and the water is so slow you have an enormous time to react, it hasnt been an issue.

euh as far as i noticed defending really is nice and its especially good when peops of the oposing fraction r spread out in not to big groups prob for me at level 70 is that a lot of times the oposing fraction uses a large breaking group meaning 5-10 men on rampage in this case countering it at a point where youre allies res is intrestring while having a few peops to exploit the fact that they lose defensive power

Small tip for both horde and alliance.
Typically, if the stables are taken by the horde, alliance will simply zerg it repeatedly from troll bane hall.
Alliance players should ignore the stables should it be unable to be reclaimed.
I can't say how upset I am whenever people can't do a simple thing like ignore this one node.

For Alliance
Most people have a thing with the black smith and not wanting it (alliance anyway) they say its to hard to defend, but i fact it is really one of the easiest considering it is were most of your people spawn as long as there not defending there own base, thats why mainly if u have BS u win.
Secondly, another belief is that LM is better then GM because u can see more, this isn't really true considering characters cant see that far un-less u have a far see abilaty. When people go to attack LM u can't see until there right on you, but with GM u can see them straight away.
My plan for AB is simple get BS ST and either LM or GM. 2 at ST 4 at LM, GM and the rest Ding BS and attacking farm( this keeps the horde busy so they can't plan to take one of ur nodes)
Any1 got anything to add to that or bad points?

There is an interesting (and often very useful) strategy for mages and priests whose factions currently control Lumber Mill but need to quickly get from Lumber Mill to Blacksmith. The fastest way to get from Lumber Mill to Blacksmith for these two classes is to mount up, leap off the Lumber Mill cliff, and cast Levitate (priest) or Slow Fall (mage). The mage or priest will quickly glide over to Blacksmith and hopefully have an edge on the opposing faction possibly attempting to cap Blacksmith.
This is one of the many things that make these two nodes the most important nodes in Arathi Basin.
By the way, when Levitating or Slow Falling to Blacksmith, make sure you're mounted first. Otherwise, you won't have enough speed and you'll simply Slow Fall into the water or land Levitated above it.

People use different abbreviations for Arathi Basin. Some of them include but not limited to:

Just a little help for those who are new to AB, and were completely befuddled with the new terminology. Like me.
Tips:
Calling out 'incs' is a great way to keep your nodes.
Killing the rats that spawn in the Farm is a great way to generate rage.
Do not leave a node undefended. This makes the node susceptible to being ninja'd, causing you to lose several points or a big amount of time. Also, the message will encourage people to leave the node they're defending (or leaving the offensive group) to go help the node that was ninja'd, giving the other team a huge advantage of fighting a weakened offense or defense.
Fight at the flag or keep an eye on the flag intently. I've had several cases where the defending group wandered off while fighting some attackers when a ninja came and took the flag, causing the defending team to lose their graveyard. Usually, when the message come up saying <base> has been assaulted, the whole defending group will run back to the flag. If they were still fighting baddies, the enemy can score several hits while the defender was running. In addition, it's near impossible to retake a flag whilst being pounded upon. If you can't defeat the attackers quickly enough, you'll lose even more time.
Listen to others. If the one who is giving out orders seems reasonable, listen to him or her. Being organized is one of the best values in a team.
Outwit your foe. "Inc, Stables!" ... Lots of defenders go to the stables... While everyone is fighting at stables, other nodes will be undefended (Dependent on the team). By the time someone says "Inc LM!" defenders at ST would think, "Heck no, I've got lots of honor kills right here!"
Speak up. If you're the only one defending, be sure to call out a possible inc so the node may be saved. If you sit around and fight on your own, it would be too late. Likewise, be sure to state the number of attackers, no use in sending half your team to a death pit.
Make proper judgments. If a node gets assaulted, do not rush to that base immediately, but make a small judgments. If it was a simple ninja, go for it. If there are lots at the node (usually accompanied by " overrun"), it's probably not wise to try to defend the assaulted base, and even a better tactic to attack another base, as everyone is at the attacked node. A social group would be easier to handle this tip, as they would be calling out incs and giving you a judgment before it gets taken.
As an added bonus from the previous tip, once you assault the other base and trigger the attack warning, the defending team at stables (say... they recently attacked stables, and you attacked lumber mill because you made that judgment) would most likely rush to defend LM and leaving stables undefended, and a small band of players can take stables with ease. If LM succeeded at defending, you've got yourself two nodes. This takes a considerable amount of balance, and that's hard to get in BGs unless it's a premade.
Try not to die. Well duh. But what I'm mainly referring to is the first death. Deaths after that are insignificant. Why? Because in the beginning, you have all these buffs (Dependent on the team)... Who buffs in combat nowadays?
The general WoW population loves honor kills. This is how you keep them distracted.
Why are we losing?
Possibly:
Lack of speed. Defending is easier than attacking (with a graveyard), so whoever gets three nodes first has an advantage.
Gear. While some may disagree, gear plays an important role. A team with supreme tactics but crap-for-gear won't have the manpower to execute those orders. Likewise, a poorly-coordinated brute wouldn't know how or where to attack effectively.
Tactics/Communication. Your team did not call out incs or did so very poorly. Your team may also have not been aware of several tips listed above.
You are Alliance.

I have to say, I played a few games today and what made a game enjoyable to me was not if we won (though this is a plus), its if we have a coordinated team.
Playing alliance Coordinated PuGs are hard to come by, but I wound up in a game with a leader who knew how to organize, and teamates who followed orders. It was quite enjoyable, and I plaied three games with this group.
I also happened to have a game with little to no organization what so ever, with everyone doing as they pleased. We happened to win that on sheer luck, but I would have prefired loosing a game with the first group to winning one with the second.
Though, that probably makes me the odd one out.

While playing in AB today I came a cross something that made me wonder. The thing was, we both had 2 nodes each, but none could grab the third. as i watched the resources tick i noticed that we had the exact same number on both teams (yes i know, du'h,)
eventually we managed to capture the third, but what if none had?
My question is this, is it possible for a AB to end in a draw? And if so, what happens then? Do both get 3 marks or do both get 1 mark?

I've been doing AB a lot lately, first time I've done any sort of major PvPing since I started to play. It can be a lot of fun, a lot more fun that Warsong Twink. I mean Warsong Gultch. You feel really good after Arathi Basin, whereas as WSG just ^&*!es you off. The horde side is pretty good.
We had a guy named Steelhorn, from the Burning Blade server the other day. He was damned good at what he was doing. Basically as the match was starting he was calling out to just hold the three positions, and then said 'any questions' afterwards. You gotta love someone who takes charge.
One thing to note though is that if someone is calling out orders or instructions, listen! I tried to do that at the start of one AB the other day and someone was like "No, I do what I want.". Well if you want to lose you can do that. If someoen's trying to help YOUR side win it might pay to not be a jackass.
You usually will wind up with three sides in control of your faction and two others, probably stables + one other. If your team is good, you can capture like all five and then zerg the graveyard. But 3 is enough to win. Choose whether you wanna do defense or go around helping out, and stick to it. If you're by yourself, ask for someone to come help. If someone says there is a 'big inc' somewhere, or if you see a large movement by your side on the map to one point, join them.
also, don't waste your own bandages in this place. if you enter the BG at Hammerfall in Arathi, you can buy special PvP pots and bandages from Twing. These are health pots, mana pots, as well as mageweave and runecloth bandages. Usually the pots are a few silver and 1 honor point. They can come in handy.

A small way to help against something everyone (mostly Alliance) has been doing lately in AB. Firstly they like to capture a point by swarming it and move onto your next captured point. Everyone on your team gets ^&*!ed so you want to act fast before a flame war starts up. Most crucial thing here is timing. When they swarm a place of yours wait for them to leave. When they do leave they leave 1 person tops. I've seem the LM zerged with 8 people then they ran off to the farm without anyone to guard it. Try following their path of destruction instead of trying to stop it head on.

Usually what i do is, when the alliance is at the Farm, i run to stables and cap it. Then i run back and cap a different one and defend it. Allys will go to stables and you have the other one for free.

okay, alot of people have been saying take 3 and defend dont attack. This might be a good strategy, but not always does it work. always have at least 2 people attacking at all times. dont go overboard and send thre whole team, you still need D. But not attacking at all is an even bigger mistake, because if they have absolutely no pressure on any of their bases they can go and attack anything that they want anytime because they dont have to Defend since your team isnt attacking. Usually there are people who will go and attack anyway, but if you see that there are more than 3 people atacking when you have 3 bases then its time to drop back 2 of those people at least and defend. you need to have pressure yes but some D is much needed as well.
One more thing, like some other people have been saying, a good strategy is to take the 3 bases have 3 at each node have 4 running artound helping where they are needed and 2 on Offnece is my personal strategy. Until you come up against a premade. Then aboutt he noly thing yo ucan do is try your best and probably lose anyway, because it ahs been an extremely long time since i saw a pug win against a premade.

A fun, yet useful, tactic is to take LM. Have a couple of

If BS needs reinforcing these people can

, mount up and jump towards BS. From my experience this will usually get you landing just short of the BS flag with a 100% mount.
Priests using levitate will have to mount up, jump and Slowfall immediately after jumping in order to get the speed bonus (Priest's cannot mount while Levitating).
By using this "tactic" it is possible to share the defenses of LM and BS allowing a few people from BS to go defend or attack elsewhere.

Like noted in previous posts, BLACKSMITH IS A MUST!
From the Blacksmith, you can defend with ease because of its moat and bridges:
-Send 1 person to each side and have someone call out an incoming so the rest of your teamates can come to help
-Have at least 1 Hunter help defend, to get the most out of the moats use. Hunters can use Track Humanoid ability to find any enemies slowed by their swimming speed
Blacksmith is also useful for it's strategic location that helps players cap nodes at an advantage:
-Blacksmith is in the middle of Arathi Basin, so you have easy access to any other node

this BG as a 49 hunter. It's insanely fun to defend the Blacksmith.
After I played a few games it seemed like the people who I'd killed over and over would avoid me even if they had the advantage.
I have to agree, that on strategy, organization is the key. Make sure you say you're going to help defend somewhere (when responding to an inc) or everyone may leave their defense points to help that one inc. Also, don't abandon your posts! If you're the only one at a point, STAY THERE. Don't leave to respond to an inc unless the entire Allie force is attacking!
Hunters, make sure to use track humanoids and eagle eye. Flare is great for defending as well. set your pet on aggressive and position them near the flag. if they can stealth, stealth 'em and throw down a flare. Put on aspect of the beast and hide somewhere nearby or scout with eagle eye. When you see someone approaching jump in and kill 'em quickly.

are among the most coveted in the game. Appropriately, they're some of the hardest PvP tabards to get, requiring a full grind to exalted with two factions which are notoriously stingy with giving out reputation.
From a lore perspective, Arathi is the
cradle of human civilisation
so it's pretty appropriate that humans and undead humans are warring over it so viciously.

Three things I have noticed about Arathi Basin is:
1. Alliance is very unorganized and hate each other.
2. Alliance starts out strong but loses stables to Horde and can't do anything.
3. Once #2 happens the Horde rogues wait in the graveyard and ninja reviving players.
So to stop this you only have to do is prevent #1, work together!

Here are some things i've noticed about the 29 bracket
1. Since the new major patch, twinks have been slapped in the face, this comes from disabling all(good) armour kits for legs for people lvl 49 and under, this is also true for head enchants obtained through libram quests
2. Blizzard has also made +100hp to chest enchant req lvl 30(probably to nerf 29 twinks) one thing i have noticed about this is that if you are a leather user in the 29 bracket go to stv and finish the quest for raptor hunter tunic(sorry i dont know how to link) this can acyually use +150hp to chest chant bcause blizz has not put a lvl req on it, only an item lvl req on it.
3. GET ATLAS LOOT, you can browse REALLY nice chants that you would have never thoght would actually be in this bracket. certain OP chants are +22 int to weapon, +20 spirit to weapon, i have not checked melee based twinks in a while so i guess stick with 15 agil or 25 agil or the time bein4.
4. When in warsong USE DEFENCE how can you win if some level ten with 150hp can casually walk in and score.
5. Hunters are OP in both 19 and 29 bg's they are some of the best bgers and in my opinion the eisiest to play, I have noticed this on two players, both hunters and i have no idea how they did it. The player puts on a burst of speed for a couple of seconds, This has an unimaginably short cd from my estimation about 5-10 seconds(keep in mind i was busy due to the fact i was on the recieving end of this bull)If you can get this you'll be automatically OP
6. If you are creating or facing twinks keep in mind gnomes are just too hard to click, i mean really i remember several times where some random lvl 10 rogue comes out and kills my 19 twink because i can't click him.
7. Engineering is best for twinks due to all of the extra items you can wield including helmets and freefall cape thing, bombs are also a great way to damage an enemy while running. the ones that stun people, you have to stop to throw but pure damage bombs can be thrown while running.
8. Alliance was extremely overpowered before the latest patch, but apperantly during the night horde wins much more, both factions of players can use this tip to win more often.
8. finally, don't be greedy. whether in wrsng or arathi dont steal the flag or dont ry to capture, when you know your screwed. wait for the right moment or let someone who CAN do the job do the job.

This is my strategy for Arathi Basin, and while it may contradict the triangle one you guys love, this is how I win my AB games everytime (if people follow orders <.<):
With a full game I make 3 groups of 5. I send one to the Farm (Horde) ST (Alliance) one to LM and one to BS. I send the farm group to gm and once they are taken I order 1 person from each group to patrol the roads within our territory to see if any Ally's are sneakin around or planning to attack. This way, we gather resources faster, and if we lose one, we can still win. Hope this helps =) oh and JarheadRl you don't walk into the portal, you talk to the guy in front of it. And to an above note about honor marks, you only able to get 100: this is not true. When you get a 100, they come in the mail because your currency tab can only have 100 at a time.

As of patch 3.2, it seems as though you gain experience every 200 points (the amount of experience changes with your level). If you win, you gain the experience for getting to 1600 points, as well as an amount of experience equal to double the amount of experience you gain every 200 points.
Edit: Sorry, you gain experience every 200 points on the weekend holiday, it's every 260 points under normal conditions.

Yes, I foresee gaining rep at AB is going to be tough - I only know of two repeatable ways for Alliance (presume it is similar for Horde):
1) Win once, or lose three times to get 3 tokens and turn in for 50 rep
2) Get 10 rep for every 330 resources you accumulate in AB
So you can see, to buy that nifty purple shoulders and staff, it's going to take quite a few rounds in there.
Also, there is one quest where you need to take the four resource nodes furthest away from your home base. That gives 200 rep if I recall correctly and isn't repeatable.
EDIT: I've recently hit 'friendly' with them and this opened up a new quest where your team needs to own 4 nodes at the same time (I'd argue that this could actually be easier than the other quest where you need to personally tag the further 4 nodes). I remember getting 440 rep for this quest, though a friend also mentioned getting 880, so whoever has done this, I'd appreciate getting some confirmation on the number. This quest opening up gives me hope that reaching 'honored' will open up yet another quest...
Anyone know anything else I'm missing? I sure hope so or this will be painful.

Okay, now it's 1.10 the rep bonuses have been icnreased dramatically.
Previously, a victory gave
110
rep (60 for win and 50 for handing 3 marks in).
Nowadays, you get 10 rep for every 200 recources your team earns. And on top of this you now get 100 rep for handing in the 3 marks, meaning a potential of
300
rep for every victory!
Now let's do the real calculations:
Friendly = 3000
Honored = 6000
Revered = 12000
Exalted = 21000 +

Total = 42000
Now, at 300 rep per win this calculates to a mere
140
wins! At approximately 25mins per win this caluculates to
58 hours and 20 mins
of pure PvPing to reach exalted... at a bare minimum...
Now, let's say for servers where there isn't a dominant faction - let's say you win 50% of the games you play, and only score 1000 resources the other 50%... Each win is 300 rep, and every loss will equate to 133.33 rep. That's 433.33 rep per every 2 games, meaning approximately
194
games to reach exalted. At, say 30 mins per game, this would take approximately
97
hours to reach exalted at a 50% win rate scored half the resources... If you only lost by say 500 resources each time the number of hours would be shorter than 97, obviously - so I'm guessing this might be something to work towards...
Edit: Also note that you have to take into account queueing time. These calculations were taken from a neutral level 60 player, and are estimates showing that if rep rewards do not differ as rep with the Defilers/League increase.

When you get into the lineup, a screen pops up, it says you are able to join. No matter where you are, you can press OK to join, or cancel to get out. Though, when the BG ends, you will be teleported to where you entered the queue.

This is a basic guide to advance
Basic Start:
#1)Learn the Map
#2)Play the board a few times
#3)Run around as a ghost a bit and see both sides or use a Allie to do the same.
#4)Understand that Horde players Tend to attack and not defend.
Allies players Tend to defend.
People get bord and start to wander.
#5) Don't Lose your cool or people will blow you off.
#6) Lots of freaks are now bot-ing or can't speak english, so dont lose your cool.
Advance
#1) Get control at the start of the game. Say something like "This is what we are going to do..." or such.
#2) Make 3 teams, Put a healer and balance the filler people in 3 groups. If you have time, blance the filler people too; tanks,damage,healers.
#3)Remeber keep it simple, Make all commands 2 to 3 words tops, after the fighting starts. Its ok to repet 2 to 3 times, but over that people will blow you off. Always assume that people are fighting and not reading. So its ok to repet your commands ever few mins.
Remeber to have one vision, One plan. If you break from that you will create confustion and distrust of your ablities to lead.
#4) With the 3 teams say "Group 1 to the lumbermill" "Group 2 to the Smith" "Group 3 to the Mine" Then put in something like "1 to 2 people guarding each flag. If you see a flag open defend it" Marco this so you dont have to type it over and over.
Reality is that Ive marcoed each one as well (ie marco - Group 2 Defend the Blacksmith its under attack!)
#5) Make general Marcos your going to use. (ie Defend the flags... Farm is under attack... Assualt the stable they are weak...)
#6)Remeber to keep cool, Remeber lots of people speak little or no english, remeber there are bots on both sides. Remeber people join and drop so communication is the key to winning, this is a team effort not a solo fest.
#7) Lasty Marco Praise "Great job Team keep up the good work fight as One" "We are Winning Fight Hard!" etc... It boosts Moral and causes a small surge in some people to do better. Most people are Praise #$%^&s so keep it up but don't over do it. Like no more then a few times ever 5 to 10mins. Or you will be a cheese #$%^. Great time for Praise to really work well is when you have Most the flags under control and your forcing the allies up the ramp from the stable. Just Say crap like "Go GO GO Get them" "Fight Hard we have these Wimps" etc. People will surge in.

Remeber to have fun, thats the key. Do not lose your head. Most the people playing are proply dorks in real life or emotional basket cases. Most probly just got their pubes and Don't understand that unity is the key to strenth and victory. Whatever you never bytch people out in chat, never debait people, never never ever follow someone else orders or say thats a good idea. Issue your orders and thats it or command will be split.
ANd remeber From time to time you'll get people that are guilded that will only work with their peepz or their majong club, just consider these people a worthless random element put them in group 4.
If you really want to win bad... Form a group before hand with your guild and people you know.

Is it me or do alliance sucks so badly. I was just playing Ab and horde where 400 points down..... we came back to win the game by 300 points.
seriously alliance get your act together, i mean i saw a lvl 40 undead mage own a lvl 48 dranei shaman, THATS JUST WRONG!
then again im not complaininbg just me quicker marks for me and quicker to my epic mount :)

If you die, please ghost walk and look how horde play...they have healer and they move in small group..and they don't chase a single enemy like ally does...imagine 10 ally chasing 1 horde.

I read a bunch of the previous comments and they all seem to have the same message (our side always wins/loses and it is usually due to teamwork/disorganization).
From playing AB at the 29, 39 and now currently holding in the 49 (until i get all my "possible" gear upgraded) I've seen "my" team (pug) go from winning 2000/800 to losing the next one (most of the same players) with an ally 5 cap for the first half of the game.
When starting off, I've found that grabbing 3 nodes and holding (on D) them until they cap is the safest way to start the game. Communication is necessary and your D has to move fast to counter rushes or assaults. I'm a 49 BM hunter and with a shammy we can D a node from 3 attackers usually 90% of the time. This involves focused fire and cc (crowd control).
One MAJOR factor during any PvP is buffs. If you are able to, but don't buff at the beginning this comes back to haunt you (you aren't as well defended by the mail/plate wearers due to average stats) And heals through-out a fight are a must. I don't care if a shadow priest can out dps a mage, I can too, but a quick heal means that two players can dps, and this is better than one.
Watching and relaying opposing faction movement is another must. If there is no-one in your area (visible) state it. Hunters, this is mainly your job (eagle eye's and tracking). If you see (say, from LM) that 6 are rushing BS, call it and if LM is safe atm, bust down there and pick off a healer (usually sitting at the back, are lowbies and drop real fast :D ) but don't forget to return to your node.
Overall, if you aren't twinked, "hero's" die, and are quickly forgotten (unless repeated attempts at solo caps are noticed to fail again, and again and again: then your team may just laugh and remember you for it)
For assaults, think of the groups like balls. Once they start rolling, unless acted upon by an equal or greater force, they will continue in a generally straight line (this is usual, however, variations may occur if there is distinct leadership). Knowing this, a good trick is to take a group of 3 or 4 and follow in behind ( two can usually manage, but can get swamped)

All I have to say about AB is not to go solo, always be in a group with at least one dps and one mana user, preferably a mage or loc, because this has been the most succesful tactic for the alliance thus far, and even though we always beat teh alliance, they always get close with these small groups of complimentary players who can 2v2 really well together, and usually always take me, a 59 warr with decent gear. Moral of the story; don't solo cuz u piss everyone off

Coming from someone who used to be a 29 twink, here are some more tips:
1. Do not go into AB or any BG unprepared. What this means is, go get your potions, water, bandages, etc., before you queue up. Don't expect the mages to pop a table, don't expect you'll get a healer at your node, etc. Take care of yourself and you'll play better. Stay buffed, keep poisons on your blade, etc.
2. Same goes for armor. Please don't go into BG without having passingly decent armor. You don't, necessarily, have to twink (it helps), but please get appropriate gear for your class and level.
3. Get your add ons. You can get BG add ons for WoW that will help with everything from telling you who's killed you before but who's in your current BG (fun for revenge) to ones that pop a mini BG map on your screen. YMMV with these, so pick the ones you think will work best with your playing style, and needs.
4. Make your macros and equip them on your bar. I always have the left and right action bar and the right side bar up, so I have plenty of places to put things I use a lot. This is done under interface options, advanced.
5. While you're equipping your macros, equip your healing potions and such so you can heal quickly when you're losing health. Nothing ticks an opposing player off so much as getting someone close to dying and watching their health pop back up :P
6. Ok, now you're ready to queue up. Premades are nice, but usually you're not going to get in one, and a lot of time they're just pre-mades out of trade chat, which is about as good as a PUG. Queue up and watch for when BG pops. Don't come in and then go AFK. Please.
7. While you're standing, waiting for the BG to start, buff the group if you can. Hit your macros and let people know where to go. If you're BG leader, arrange your teams (don't rely on the person who has this title to actually lead, btw). If you're not, ask them to arrange the teams logically.
8. Ok, BG starts. If you're alliance, ST is a given, if you're horde, ditto farm. The other two nodes to get should probably include LM. It's easier to defend than BS or mine - less ways to approach. Most people like to get BS as well, because that gives you a triangle that's closer together if you get attacked at 1 of them, but it's usually a tough one to get unless you bring more than 5 people. Leave 1 person at your "given" node to cap flag for the moment, 1 group of 5 to LM and all the rest to BS.
9. Work on clearing a node as follows: First, pull defenders AWAY from flag. I can't stress this enough. If they're not looking, you can have 1 person cap during fighting, but they HAVE to be pulled back far enough that they don't see the capper. Be aware that this isn't possible in every case so don't keep trying til you die, but it's great when it works. (This also means, if you're fighting while trying to take a node, don't pull your opponent over to the person trying to cap).
Next, have your team go for single target beat downs. Put 2 or more attackers per opponent and take out the ones with the lowest health first. Move from opponent to opponent, and watch your health. If you get low, step back and do what you have to, to get healthy fast. Potion, bandages, whatever...just make sure you do, because your dying doesn't help your team.
Once you're clear and there's no more incoming, post someone who can see the various ways to approach the node and who will call out incoming attacks, not only to their node, but others if they see them (calling out specifics is nice - I like to know if there are 3 incoming and 1's a lock, or a healer, for instance - but don't take that kind of time if it's your node being invaded). Get at least 3-4 on defense per node - 5 is better. Again, start playing defense the minute you have the node starting to cap and opponents cleared. Switch to fighting at flag, stay together, and stay alert.
10. Look at your map and see what nodes you're holding and what you still need. If you need a third node, leave at least 3 guarding each node and take additionals to ONE node to clear it. Try not to get into a squabble with people in BG chat over which one. Take the one that's least defended, or the one getting the most responders from your team and go.
Additionally, this is not the time to sneak off by yourself and try to cap a flag that looks undefended. I can't count the times I've heard someone yell over BG chat, "Hey, there's no one at farm, I'm going to go cap it," and when they don't wait for help, the rogue saps them and they die. Please, don't be that person...take a team.
11. Once you have three nodes, if the score is reasonable, HOLD. At this point, it's just a waiting game and the attackers will come to you. You need to have enough people per node to defend...that means at least three (I know I've said this a few times - it's important: don't leave 1 person or worse, NO people to guard a node). This is the time that the opponents will start to zerg. What that means is a huge force will come in to try to overpower your node. They may try to pull you off flag (see above). Fight together and stay close to the flag so you can hit anyone who starts trying to cap. Remember to use the strategy of hitting single targets and killing the characters with the lowest health first.
12. If you lose a node, don't panic and don't immediately cry that everyone "needs to go get it back immediately." At that point, the opponents may be stronger than your attack force and you'll go in singly and die. Regroup at your graveyard and see how the other nodes look.
13. If you have a BG full of people who don't listen (this happens often), there's a good chance none of these strategies will work because no one will follow them. Just remember, QQ helps no one, demoralizes the team, and ticks off everyone so they won't want to play with you. Try to give groups doing the right thing your verbal support, and don't respond to whiners. If you're losing by a lot, farm your honor and get out with your mark. Chances are, you'll have a mostly different group in the next AB.
Additional notes:
Don't forget to re-buff during the game.
If you're a healer or a clothie, a good bet to stay alive is to stay mostly out of sight but just within range of where your spells will be effective. If you're healing or mana-ing up, stay back and out of sight, too.
Sometimes fighting at the points between nodes works better than fighting on flags. Doing things such as catching your opponents between BS and LM so they can get to neither can work if your team is dilligent.
Don't go for 4 nodes unless you're sure you can take them. Going for a 4th node can lose the game for you because it pulls your D away from nodes that are going to get zerged.
If you get 4-5 nodes, go graveyard camp. The opponents wouldn't hesitate to do it to you.
If your D isn't working, it's fine to change strategies. Go on a zerg of your own.
Don't forget to call out incoming attacks, especially if it looks like you're going to get overwhelmed. Communication is a big key to winning BG. Call out all-clear's too, so people don't come help when they don't need to.
Pull insignias. Don't antagonize opponents unless you know you can kill them every time. Otherwise, there's a good chance you'll be their target for the rest of the game. If an opponent tries emoting at you, don't let it get to you. That's the point, of course.
Remember not to kill the pet, kill the owner. You get both that way.
If you're about to attack a node, watch to see how it's graveyard pops. If it's the one where all your opponents are rezzing, you'll need to wait til they run off before the attack. Hit at the opportune time, so the opponents don't get the next rez off, or you have incoming masses.
