Tactics for the Kael fight in the Magister's Terrace:
Kael'Thas basically has two phases. He starts off by doing mostly melee attacks and the occasional fireball on a random party member. Fire resistance shouldn't be an issue, but anything you've got with you will do basically.
He will spawn a phoenix which should be kited by a ranged class as it does a fire based AoE around him. After a while the phoenix will blow up, dealing massive fire damage and an AoE knockback to anyone within range. Still uncertain about the range on this though. We just stayed a good 40 yards away from it. Once it is dead it leaves a phoenix egg that must be nuked down or else it will be reborn.
At 50% Kael'Thas enters his 2nd phase where he will use Gravity Lapse. Gravity Lapse throws the entire party up in the air and you are free to move as if you were swimming under water. He will also start channeling arcane magic to the entire party ticking for about 350 damage every few seconds. A healer with an AoE heal is much appreciated here. He will also spawn arcane orbs which will deal 2,000 damage if they hit you. Swim around and avoid the orbs and keep dps up on Kael.
Gravity Lapse will eventually end and you will get a few seconds to heal up and deal some damage to Kael before he casts Gravity Lapse again. Stay alive and keep DPS up and he should be down in no time.

From the sound of it, this promises to be a fun fight. I love when Bliz actually decides to make fights interesting with strange new features, such as gravity lapse, rather than just making bosses hit harder and summon more adds.

Normal Instance Strategy:
Kael will cast Fireballs which can be interrupted, whether you do or not doesn't matter much, they don't hit hard.
He summons a Phoenix which moves very slowly. It does a hellfire type effect while moving. It should be aggro'd and kited by someone with range while killing it. The Phoenix explodes on death, stay away. Once it dies it leaves an egg behind, kill that asap.
When Kael reaches 50% he cast a spell called Gravity Lapse. A beam will lift and stay on each party member causing small but steady amounts of damage. A healer with HoT's is best for this. He also spawns arcane orbs which slowly follow people around. If you get too close to them they do a large amount of damage to you. You can continue to damage him during this time in the air. If you go and walk on the ground you will be punted back into the air and not be able to move for a couple of seconds. If you are near an orb at this time it can be fatal.
The best tactic I found for this stage was to have your entire group "swim" to the front of the room where the door is, cast some DoT's/HoT's/Direct Damage spells and when the orbs get close everyone swim to the front and left side of the room, repeat damage. Then move to the back, repeating damage, then to the other side of the room. Always staying ahead of the orbs. By now the Gravity Lapse is over and you have about 10 seconds to DPS Kael hard before he casts the Gravity Lapse again.
All in all an easy fight if your group is paying attention and knows what to do.

Anyone have any idea how well geared you have to be to successfully take down kael'thas in the normal mode dungeon?

The fight is pretty simple, but the phoenix add was quite a surprise when I saw it.
In normal mode it hits like a truck, so you really don't want to leave it alive (It was getting 2k whites and 1.5k AoE ticks on my hunter), but if you choose to, or don't kill the egg, when he sends you up in the air, it will start casting fireballs (4 second cast rather than 3 I think, it took a while), and they hurt. Also, its kind of fun to watch while your flying in the air, because it slowly patrols back and forth in a half circle motion.
It is a very slow mob, so kiting it or killing it are both options (We had a lock on one side and me on the other side of the room just kill it, it doesn't have a super high amount of health, and the egg dies quite fast)
Another thing, Kael'thas WILL kill your pets... I don't know if its a bug or not, but every time he does his gravity lapse my pet dies. All in all pretty simple fight if you avoid the things being thrown at you (While your floating you can cast spells as if you were in water/on land.)

The Emerald that rips through is heart is a Fel Crystal that is providing him the Fel Energy that A) He's addicted to and B) That he requires to live (Since he did get throughly trashed in Outlands.)
Also, I'd like to add that, unless it has been changed recently, Warriors can also spell reflect his Fire attacks back at him in P1.

Kael becomes untankable at 50%. It'd be a good idea for the tank to switch out his weapons and help the group another way once he gets that low.
Warriors can DPS; paladins can help heal; druids can either heal or DPS based on what's needed more.

Just got done doing this fight. It was rather fun.
On a humorous note: My group was a horrible fail pug. At about 25% everyone but me (UA warlock) died. Since all his damage ceased except the aoe damage tick and the orbs, I was able to solo him by drain tanking. We had a pretty good laugh.

Ran into a interesting "issue" with Kael'thas. Not sure if this is intended
First time running it heroic mode, we got to kael no worries, but started off on him a bit slow. He was getting close to 50% when he shielded and next thing we see a pyroblast warning. We were going wtf at that when it hit the tank and one-shotted him for 43k damage..! Same shield spell effect as the Tempest Keep version of Kael.
Next attempt we just zerged him down and there was no pyroblast. Go figure.

If
you can avoid this guy's damaging spheres once he hits 50% then you're probably going to do fine.
The phoenix and egg are important to destroy quickly, but he hopefully won't get more than one of those off.

Have done Kael a few times today. He's not too difficult at all.
First up, I haven't done him on heroic - but at least on normal, he doesn't melee very hard, and his fireballs are interruptable. So if you keep the interrupts up, really, you don't need a mainstream tank. The first time we killed him I was the tank (tankadin), and I served little use in phase 2. The second time we had our druid tank do P1 in kitty gear (as bear), and go kitty for P2, and this worked really well.
For phase 2, the aim of the game is to stay alive during gravity lapses. It's all too easy for melee to hit a few orbs trying to dps while in the air, and getting squished, but he goes down like a piece of cake when his lapse ends, so as long as you stay alive while in the air, you'll get your loot. Actually, on the first attempt we were down to a rogue, priest and myself (tank), and after realising that we just had to stay alive we were still able to take him down the last 30%.
So, to sum up - phase 1, interrupt those fireballs, kite that phoenix, win. Phase 2, stay alive, win. I'd imagine the only difference in heroic is to save your cooldowns for the P1 shock barrier + pyro, but I'll try and post after I've tried it out to shed some light.

Killed this guy last night, and boy was he a pain in the arse... Hard to Kill, indeed. Here are some pointers, until a more detailed guide is posted by someone...
Phase 1 -- Standard boss-tanking scenario, though he really doesn't hit very hard. A phoenix will spawn, which procs a steady Hellfire (like the fire elementals in Mech, though without the fire trail) and slowly goes straight for the healer. Have ranged DPS take it down (and slow it, if possible) immediately while tank sticks to boss. Melee DPS should probably stay on boss too, since the Hellfire is pretty damaging. After it explodes upon death (don't be near that!), an Egg will spawn, which should be destroyed to avoid a respawn (it is a phoenix!). Also of note, the Boss will randomly target someone (seems like it was the tank most of the time) with an AoE spell -- simply move out of it, or you'll die. It's hard to miss -- bright orange/pink aura with rotating spheres.
Phase 2a -- At 50% health, Boss "turns the world upside down" (Gravity Lapse). This throws everyone up into the air, applies a steady arcane DoT, and spawns large pink bubbles that result in large damage if you run into them. (It is a good idea to make sure you've killed all Phoenix and Eggs before you DPS him down to 50%, so those guys won't be in the way, though the phoenix do stay on the ground.) You can swim through this stuff like it is water, only at normal movement speed. Have ranged DPS continue to burn the Boss, but mainly, survive and heal is the most important thing to do here. Long casting spells are not ideal, due to the interruption from the DoT. Everyone else simply move around to avoid bubbles and whoever can, apply heals, especially HoT or any instant spells. Do NOT tank boss during this 10-15 second period and do NOT touch the ground! It will throw you up into the air and stun you, at which point you're likely to fall to your death when he stops the Gravity Lapse.
Phase 2b -- This is a period of perhaps 10 seconds, where the boss is stunned and prone to 150% damage. DPS the hell out of him, everyone! Druid tanks, go cat to help DPS him, since he doesn't fight back. If he's still alive after this, he goes back to Phase 2a...wash, rinse, repeat.
We wiped several times. It takes practice. He dropped epic plate boots for us... bah!

I had the opportunity to tank him last night and here are some things to keep in mind:
You can spell reflect his fireball which does decent damage to him and helps hold aggro
You can Shield Bash and interrupt his fireball while spell reflect is down
His melee hits are pretty weak and with Thunder Clap and Demo shout up you should have no problems with the incoming damage if are able to avoid his fireballs with Shield Bash and Spell Reflect as much as possible.
One more fairly important tip is that when he summons the phoenix you may want to move because the AOE fire damage that it does can take your life down pretty quickly so move back for a few seconds while a ranged DPS pulls and kites the phoenix then move back into melee range with Kael after the phoenix is away. You shouldn't lose aggro if you have been spell refelcting his fireballs.
The most important thing to do during gravity lapse is
avoid the orbs
and don't touch the ground or he will throw you back into the air and damage you. I have roughly 15000 unbuffed HP and can survive the ticks of the gravity lapse very easily as a tank so the healers should concentrate on healing those who have lower HP. The ticks were hitting me for 241 in defensive stance and if the floating orbs hit you they were doing roughly 1800 damage. As the tank during this phase I wasn't doing much just avoiding the orbs and dpsing when I could, but as prot spec that isn't anything to brag about.
When Kael is stunned after a gravity lapse
he takes 50% increased damage
so blow your cool downs and try and take him down before he casts it again.

Kael has a 10k damage shield on Heroic mode. Cannot be dispelled. His fireballs have lower cast times and he uses them more frequently.
As a pally tank, I had to bubble up right before pyroblast hit and remove the buff asap before he killed the dps.

Ran through a small bug on him, was drinking a super mana potion the moment he threw us all in the air, I ended up stuck on the ground while all my allies thrown up, I then got a hit similar to the one in TK and died :(

Did this today with a pug group, fun fight really, just make sure you kill the pheonix and the egg fast before going on Kael again, then at gravitry lapse watch out for the orbs, you will swim really fast so it wouldnt be a problem. Gravity lapse hits you for 300 every 3 sec.

Did him as:

He has the same abilities he has in normal and a Pyroblast
All his abilities do much higher dmg in Heroic.
Fireball was hitting Protection Tank for 5000 each.
Flamestrike killed our Retri Pala fast when she got caught in it.
Phoenix does alot of dmg aswell, if it got close to any1 they died in seconds. Can be slowed, Curse of Exhaustion worked well.
He will do a shield and begin to cast a 50.000 dmg pyroblast. The shield must be dps'd down and his Pyroblast interrupted. Our group had no interruption but Divine Shield saved me from the Pyroblast.
He will start Gravity Lapse at 50%, same as in Normal Mode.
Had our Druid, Lock and Retri Pala die at 40%. Killed him from there on with me(Protection Pala) healing and Shadow Priest dps-ing. Once u get to gravity lapse its pretty much over.

Edit: Fireballs are unresistable. Dont worry about the FR, just do regualr tanking
Kael will cast something that looks like a Power Word: Shield, then begin to cast Pyroblast. When you see him start casting it, all dps must stop what their doing and burn through the shield, then interupt the cast with a kick/charge/earthshock (immune to a Priest's Silence).
If you can get him to phase 2 (flying phase) fast enough, then you dont have to worry about the blast.
If you dont burn it down, the blast will hit you for between 40-60k, oneshotting what is most likely your tank. I think it's probably on a timer since we've gotten it 3 of the 5 times we've done the boss, and on the 2 times we didn't get it, we use'd Bloodlust.
Side note, Untankable in phase 2, so switch to dps weapons / Catform and loot his sweet sweet epix

Heroic Mode

Kael'thas Abilities
Fireball -
Hits for 4k to 5k most of the time, it's his normal attack
Flamestrike -
A flamestrike that acts like a bomb, once the flame blows up it will hit players standing on it for 3k to 5k hp, taking periodic damage
Phoenix -
A phoenix will spawn and chases player with the highest aggro on it
Shield + Pyro Combo -
A shield that has 10k hitpoints is placed on Kael'thas that reflects partial damage, Kael'thas will start casting a 4 second pyroblast that will one shot the target with aggro, dealing 45k to 50k damage
Gravity lapse + 3 orbs -
Pulls everyone to Kael'thas and send them swimming in the air, increasing your movement speed but allowing 3 deadly orb to slowly follow a player, instant death if touched for more than 2 seconds because you will get zapped for 2.5k every second. The party also takes 300 damage periodically during gravity lapse
Phoenix Abilities
Passive Flamestrike
- A mini flamestrike wherever the phoenix moves, happens every 2-3 seconds and hits for 2k if you are standing on it
How to kill Kael'thas effectively
First off, make sure that your party is buffed up and possibly potted with cheap buffs because DPS is vital. If you have a warlock in the group, get him to put Soulstone on the main tank.
When battle is engaged, Kael'thas will start casting fireballs at the player with the highest aggro, the tank. It can be interrupted and should be to minimise heals required.
A phoenix will spawn shortly after, you will need to get a range class to DPS it heavily to kite the phoenix while slowing it with any slow abilities. After the range class grabs aggro, he kites it around while the group starts to DPS the phoenix down, when it turns into an egg, kill it off.
If you have a druid and priest, get them to cast HoTs on every target frequently because the next part requires heavy healing. If you have a resto shaman, get everyone to stack up before gravity lapse for chain heals, paladin can cast divine shield to lessen heals required.
At around 60%, Kael'thas will activate a shield that has 10k hitpoints and reflects partial damage, doing so, he will begin casting pyroblast. There are multiple strategies to counter this but the straight forward method is to take down the shield with very heavy DPS (About 700 per person), if you feel that he is going to activate his pyro combo soon, get party to load up their bursts and interrupt the pyroblast immediately when the shield is down. Another strategy is to either Divine Shield/ Blessing of Forberence through the pyroblast if you are a prot paladin tank. You can also resurrect back up with Soulstone and rebirth after the Pyro hits.
The pyroblast cannot be reflected

Kael'thas will put you into gravity lapse mode pulling everyone to him, 3 orbs will spawn and follow a player, the party will start taking 300 damage periodically. All you have to do is distance yourself as far as possible away from the orbs and start hitting Kael'thas. When the lapse is over, he will drop you to the ground, you will have a split second to do double DPS on him while he is powerless before he starts to cast gravity lapse again.
Kael'thas will eventually die, you can enjoy your drops now.
TL;DR version

This one MIGHT be a bit hard. But really easy dooable if you know how. We didnt bother to read the extremly LONG explanations on how to kill it.. it was just to much to read:P Here is the easy way to explain it:
Phase 1:
Start off with the tank tanking, the rest dps like hell.
When the phoenix comes, all the dpsers change targets to the phoenix, then hit the egg, then do the boss.
Phase 2: After a while, he casts a gravity spell, you will now "swim around" in the air above him, you can still cast spells. Swim around, avoid the energy balls. (Zoom the camera out to the max, place it above your head) Heal when needed.If you have enough dps, you can down him in the first gravity thing.
NOTE:
We actually downed him in the first gravity thing, so we never had the problem with the thing he does on the ground (DOnt remember what it is:P
and his RANDOM fireball wasnt random:P It kept hitting the tank ONLY. Will test this today to check if it is random or not.

Tactial Information:
If you manage to get him into Phase 2 you are able to kill him, as long as you have a healer alive. He will deal no damage but the DoT applied throughout the Gravity Lapse.
I, for example, was able to solo him to death as a holy priest. Just keep yourself topped of, avoid the charged spheres and dps whenever possible.
Note: If anyone dies, they are able to run back into the instance and re-join the fight. As soon as a new gravity lapse starts, all party members will be teleported into the room, no matter were they are in the dungeon. :-)

On heroic, he is pretty tricky. The best tactic I've found is to burn him really really fast (use all trinkets and cooldowns). This is especially doable if you have a hunter who can misdirect for that initial aggro. When the first phoenix comes, zerg it fast, kill the egg, and then go back to intensely burning down Kael'thas. If you have the dps, you will manage to get him below 50% before a. The second phoenix spawns; and b. He pops his shield and casts a pyroblast that one-shots your tank.
Once you are in the air (phase 2), swim around, avoiding the bubbles and relying on your healer to keep you up from the aoe damage that everyone takes. The damage is only 300 per tick so it should be no problem to stay alive, so long as you can avoid the orbs. Do whatever DPS you can, but the trick here is to stay alive. When you land, your trinkets should be up again and you should DPS him as hard as possible (don't waste any time). If he puts you into the air again, just repeat it: stay alive by swimming around, then do hard DPS when you land on the ground again.

In response to archeronx's post: you are correct; his fireballs are not random but are aimed at the person who is highest on the aggro list - which should be the tank ><
While swimming around, it can be hard to keep up any DPS and avoid getting hit. Not every group makeup will be able to get him down in the first gravity lapse, but since he doesn't do anything nasty aside from the orbs, waiting it out and zerging once you land again is fine.

I recently did this on heroic mode. My group wiped once during magister's terrace due to a bad trash pull. Honestly, i did not find Kael'thas to be much harder on heroic. He summoned one phoenix in all. When he shielded to do his pyro we had the shield down within 1 or 2 seconds and i(a mage) simply counterspell'd him. On gravity lapse he's the same, you just have to not be dumb and move away from the orbs. His shield seemed to have absorbed about 5-6k damage and then dissipated.
Group consisted of
Me(frost mage)
Warrior(prot)
Druid(feral)
Priest(holy)
Hunter(Marks)
The druid did a small amount of off healing but not so much that you cant do this without it.

One small tip for tanks, at his pyroblast and groups with lack of DPS or just incase. What I did:
1. Told a healer to have me topped when Kael starts casting pyro.
2. Used Shield Wall and Last Stand.
3. Used Bulwark of the Ancient Kings (150 stamina, optional). Also you can use some stamina-giving-trinkets or Nightmare Seed if you don't feel confident (don't think you'll need it if you got that far into the instance).
then I received a 10k pyro while having more than 24k hp overall, party even didn't notice that.
Do not "save a cooldown for a better situation" because a pyro starts at around 60% and at 50% you (tank) become useless.
...Well not that useless, if you manage to "aggro" some bubbles letting thus another ppl be more relaxed and continue DPS, remember to execute at 19% (if you get there hehe).

It's not listed under the Heroic drops for Kael'thas, but he can drop the Phoenix Hatchling on both difficulties. I've personally seen it drop in both places. Please add this to the initial boss loot post.

He dropped the enchanting formula for Boar's Speed on normal mode for me the day before yesterday.
The formula was Bind on Pickup, unlike the world drop recipe. Also got Steelweave the same run.
Just thought I'd mention the Boar's Speed formula, since it's not a listed drop yet.

Some tips for low DPS groups for Kael'thas:
Soulstone the tank if you have warlock, because hes usually the one to die on pyroblast. After 50% Kael can be pretty much killed by a healer and any ranged dps.
Finished heroic run where lock and paly killed boss down from about 35%.

As a warrior tank, I found that this fight is very easy if you set up a Shield Bash --> Spell Reflect rotation. You can mitigate/stop most if not all his spell dmg on you by timing this correctly. Once he's into phase two, as others have said, no worries about tanking... just spank him.

I am an extremely well geared warlock that needed to do this place on normal for the heroic key. My group was very under geared and I carried them though most of the instance. When we got to Kael, our tank(a prot pally) couldn't hold aggro for anything and I eventually ended up tanking him after a few failed attempts. One of our dps left and I put on my pvp stam gear and tanked him as if he was capernian/illidan/leotheras. Our prot pally put on healing gear and our other dps (a mage) kited the phoenix around. This was a very unconventional way of fighting him but it works if you have good healers and/or a crappy tank.

Just beat Kael on Heroic!
priest as heal,
druid as tank,
lock, mage, and rogue as dps.
First thing, if you are surrounded by spinning fire, RUN! after 2 seconds you will die, if you do not relocate. Second, dps the first bird down, and then dps the egg even quicker. Continue to dps Kael and he will begin to cast pyroblast. Pyroblast will kill you tank, but dont worry you dont need a tank anymore. Next, with only 4 people, quickly dps the second bird and egg. By now, you should be in antigravity. Simply swim away from Orbs of Death while keeping some dps. Kael will release you from antigravity for 10 sec while he is vulnerable, again no tank is needed because he is vulnerable. Keep repeating antigravity and vulnerable stages with you remaining four players until Kael is DEAD!

i was doing this right now. the group was realy retarded,a rogue(me)shadow priest,druid(full green gear, i mean greens from quests in hellfire)holy priest,and a mage. we wiped 4 times.at the first phase just tank him down,and when he summons the pheonix egg kill it asap, i mean it. in the 2. phase if not killed it will give you dmg while in air. if oyu survive the 1. phase just stay alive

If you aren't a pally (you can divine shield yourself to avoid pyroblast, simply click off the buff after it "hits") simply take the pyroblast as close to 50% as possible, while making sure the bird has been killed, as well as the egg that spawns after the bird, you will die, and that's fine, a prot warrior or feral druids dps/heals will be almost useless anyway, so simply die, encourage the 3 dps and healer to continue on and assure them it's easy-mode as long as they stay in LoS of the healer and don't touch the ground or the orbs

The best tactic I found for this stage was to have your entire group "swim" to the front of the room where the door is, cast some DoT's/HoT's/Direct Damage spells and when the orbs get close everyone swim to the front and left side of the room, repeat damage. Then move to the back, repeating damage, then to the other side of the room. Always staying ahead of the orbs. By now the Gravity Lapse is over and you have about 10 seconds to DPS Kael hard before he casts the Gravity Lapse again.
During Phase 2 (50% Health), Kael'Thas can be soloed as a Affliction Warlock. I've done it, in normal difficulty, using that strategy.
To add some more details, be sure to have your Healthstone and Health Potion, as well as your imp out for Dark Pact. As soon as Kael casts Gravity Lapse, 'swim' to the room's entrance, and while doing so throw your instant DoTs. Once there, while you wait for the orbs, cast Unstable Affliction and start to Drain Life. When the orbs get close, swim to one side of the room and then to the back, and then to the other side of the room, and then back to the entrance (while renewing your dots). At each of these four points (entrance, left side, back, right side), be sure to Drain Life (so that Kael's dot doesn't kill you).
Use Dark Pact to recover mana, and if you really need to: use your Potion (yes the potion first), and if you need again use the Healthstone (that way you're be able to heal a 3rd time if the potion's cooldown is already gone. When Kael stops the Gravity Lapse, trinket and start casting Shadow Bolts, and be sure to renew your DoTs, but always keeping an eye on your mana and health (if you need health, Drain Life instead; for mana, Dark Pact)
This doesn't require "great" gear, but just good strategy and be able to keep an eye on your health to not be killed by Kael's DoT.

Just attempted him on heroic difficulty. We could not down him, and stopped after 5 wipes simply because we were done trying to do something useless.
Group makeup:
Prot Warr, T4/Kara, some SSC Gears
Rogue in Kara Epics
Lock in Kara/SSC Epics
Priest in Kara/SSC Epics
Ret Pally in Kara/S1 Glad Epics (Me, and BTW its entirely possible up to here with this group makeup)
His Phoenix is pretty much the same as normal, a little more damage (2k-2300ish) on his aoe, but easily doable by intelligent people (read: not a PUG). His main attack, the Fireballs, went as follows:
-Hit our 15000hps tank for about 5k per
-Was definitely resisted once according to combat logs (Dodged maybe?)
-Can be reflected by a warr/kicked by a rogue
-Cannot be Spell Lock'd by lock pet
After the first Phoenix, he casts Pyroblast, which hits for like 40k+. We tried burning through this "shield" thing that we read about and couldn't. Seems ridiculous that there is a freaking "gear check" requiring T5+ when the epics he drops aren't that level of gear. Also:
-Cannot be Spell Reflected by a warrior
-Cannot be interrupted by Spell Lock, Kick, Shield Bash (at least during shield)
-Cannot be LOS'd. After slowly dragging him over to the left of the stairs and waiting for the pyro, our tank ran behind the wall there and Kael pyroed her through it. Evidently, the laws that apply to everything else in this game don't apply to this pyro.
So evidently Blizzard finally found a way to make everyone really really love paladin tanks; make it so you have to take one into their new dungeon. Or be in T6.

First, thanks to all of comments above with valuable info. We got him in heroic mode last night.
Timing on the pyro is tricky for the tank, but we figured out that sacrifying our tank is ok. Also if we dps hard enough to burn him quickly down to 50% from about 65% when he begins casting pyro, we can avoid pyro at all, but managing threat can be hard in doing so.
After the pyro, he's pretty weak as long as we can dodge those orbs properly (otherwise suffering 2k dmg/sec/orb). We found swimming to the door can buy us more space.
Having said that, this battle is kinda luck based. There were several times he summoned a phoenix right before entering the swiming phase then wiped us.

I've done this two times now on heroic and he is definitely one of my favorite encounters. I've found that if your DPS is really good you wont even see the pyroblast in heroic.
There are two ways that I have found that works with this boss:
1. If your DPS is subpar, it is worth stopping dps 60% and wait for the second phoenix, kill it... kill the egg... then drop him below 50%. You don't want to be in the air when the second phoenix is up, it just becomes another thing to dodge and screws you up when you get the free dps time after the gravity lapse.
2. If your DPS is really strong, I've seen him drop below 50% before he gets a pyroblast or a second phoenix. This is significantly better because it is significantly less to worry about.
In either situation, I have found that the best way to deal with KT when he is gravity lapsing is to have everyone run to the back of the room, wait for the bubbles to float near to you, then sneak around them toward him and do damage to him. The gravity lapses are survival times, not damage times. After the gravity lapse completes he goes into a weakened state and cannot attack back for a few seconds. At this point DPS should be full tilt.
Fire resistance is good, but don't gear for it, its only about 4-5k damage every few seconds and a tank should easily have enough HP to take that if you are this far into the instance. Fire resist aura was enough to toss up a few resists...His melee is weak... ~800-900 on plate.

If phoenix is alive during gravity lapse, it will stop moving and instead spam fireballs. Dunno if this is true on normal too.

Just down Kael'thas on Heroic for the first time. We had quite a few problems with him, the worst of which was the Pyroblast. The Pyroblast is not reflectable with a warrior's Spell Reflect. It hits for 40K and therefore is instant death to anyone it hits. The normal way to avoid this is to nuke Kael'thas as fast as possible to get his shield down and then interrupt the spell. We had problems with doing this before time ran out. So, what we did was we had our Warlock put a Soulstone on the tank and made the tank eat the Pyroblast while the ranged DPS handled the Pheonixes. The Pyroblast hit, tank popped and reestablished aggro. Was able to keep the group alive for the second phase. After this it is a easy task of keeping away from the bubbles and DPSing Kael'thas down. The swimming to the entrance and then around the bubbles works very well here.

This way, the pyroblast only hit for 10k. Immediatly after it hit, I used a healthpot, a Healthstone, and one of those Depleted crystal foci from BeM.

Just to add my $.02
On normal difficulty, the group was Bear tank, pally healer, mage, mage, shadow priest (I played mage). I found that just me on phoenix duty was not the best use of the time, because by the time I was trying to kill the egg, we'd be at 50% and Gravity Lapse would make me unable to finish off the egg before hatching.
When the shadow priest and I killed the phoenix and egg, it allowed the both of us to go back to dps on Kael and made the fight cake (using the 'swimming' rotation above).

I have done this a number of times with strong melee groups : 1 tank, 2 melee dps, 1 ranged dps and 1 healer.
The ranged dps should have enough dps to take out the bird and egg solo. When the phoenix spawns DO NOT fully kill him, take him down to about 10% and continue to kite until Kael is on 70% then kill the phoenix and the egg. In this respect a second phoenix wont spawn prior to the 50% gravity phase.
Also Kael is susceptable kick, however he is immune to cheapshot and kidney shot.
In Gravity Phase (2) with a melee heavy group just use your ranged weapons in the air and go all out dps when back on the ground. It should take 2-3 rotations before he is dead.
Rogues can also cloak of shadows through the phoenix's aoe damage and through some of the gravity damage.

The awesome of the awesome! Just killed Kael'Thas! What makes it awesome? Im a Resto Druid, on phase 2 all party had died but me, I solo'd him to 10% then party popped into instance and ported to him to finish him off! Resto Druid FTW! No frap though, happened too quickly >.<
But let it be known, if you have a good running and you die while fight, during phase 2 you will be ported from the entrance of the instance to Kael'Thas' room!

It is possible on normal mode to have a Warlock solo phase 2.
Using spells like
Drain Life
and
Siphon Life
heals the player through the damage, while they can DoT and avoid the orbs. They can then use the free time on the floor to nuke or
Life Tap
.
The only major problem a lot of groups encounter is the fact that they may get a stray pheonix just before the second phase. it's caused many wipes, because the pheonix will cast fireballs which ignore Line of Sight if your party is in the air.

I obviously did not read all those 100 posts before me, but let me say a couple things that i noticed on heroic.
First, a dps+healer is more than enough to kill him in phase 2, not sure an affl warlock could do in solo, but i did coupled with a druid and all went REALLY easy.
The other and maybe more important thing is about his shield. If the warlock in your gruop casts "Curse of Doom" immediately after the pull, it will detonate on the shield, almost deleting it with one shot (with 1000spelldmg my amplified one did 8700 the time i timed it too late, so if timed correctly takes out a large amount of the shield).

Something I thought about after giving this encounter a shot the first time. Since you are "swimming," would a swim speed potion make you move even faster in the second phase? I understand a health pot or mana pot would be better to use in this phase, but I can't help but wonder. If it does work and the game mechanics as if you are in the water, it would be possible to wait untill the last possible second, use the pot, zoom up and accross the room in half the time to get a little more DPS time in. Just more out of curiousity and if anyone has/could try it just for grins and giggles I would be interested in knowing if it has the same mechanics as swimming in water.

Heroic Mode:
Kael will only cast a pyroblast if you don't manage to dps him to 50% quickly. I can't get a clear timer, but we tried it a few times (wipes for testing purposes!) and he definitely never casts a pyroblast if you manage to get him to 50% / P2 about 2-3 minutes after the fight starts. If it takes you longer than those 2-3 minutes he will cast a pyroblast and kill your tank (if it happens *not* to be a paladin).
We did it with T5/6 equipped people (Prot Warrior, Balance Druid, Fire Mage, Enhancement Shaman and me as a Holy Priest). With this equip its probably pretty easy getting him down to 50% in time. I think people who just hit 70 with blue gear will not be able to do it without a pyroblast.

DPSing through the shield can be a hella pain in the ass, especially if he drops a Flamestrike right before he does it. But a Warrior can pop Shield Wall and Last Stand and survive.
Of course you can only do this once every 30 mins, so be sure to kill him.

I can confirm this. I even did it on heroic mode as an SL/SL warlock. Dark Pact is not mandatory (of course it helps a lot to avoid having you sacrifice health for mana). Had to use my healthstone when I kept draining a bit too long and an orb came too close, and used a pot and a charged crystal focus later on when my health got a bit too low. You can however easily heal yourself to full by draining when he's weakened. It took a while, but I managed to convince my party that warlocks are overpowered once again.
I'd like to add that this is of course not a main strategy when dealing with Kael. Your party is not supposed to die if they interrupt the pyro, kill the bird/egg and stay alive during gravity lapse, but if your entire party gets killed off and you're the remaining warlock... try it.

a little further adding to the "how Kael lived" saga it turns out if you are in dawnstar village up the ramp of one of the buildings ( the south-westernern most one ) and there is a summoner and a blood knight there they will occasionally go through a scripted event where they say about how Kael actually survived it. apparently the Priestess boss from MgT came along and healed him as he lay there dying, i just found this little bit while i was doing the Taking the Harbour daily quest thought it might be of interest to someone

Some tips for Pallies and mages in Phase 2.
Pally can cast bubble and focus healing on your group members.
Mages can Ice Block to lessen the healing pressure.
Also, If you become Invulnerable(bubble or Ice Block) while the boss is casting Gravity Lapse, you will not be tossed up and will stay on ground instead. By doing so, you will not suffer from the continuing damage, but you still have to dodge the flowing balls when comes out from your bubble or Ice Block. So it's not recommended unless your healer is dead or oom.

For all the warlocks out there, you can make this fight trivial in the heroic version. His shield pops up exactly 60 seconds into the encounter. Curse of Doom right after your tank pulls and your CoD will take care of most, if not all, of his shield, allowing for easy interrupts.

Heroic Mode:
If your tank is a feral druid as it is my case, I just asked a mage to go as close as possible to my agro, and once the Pyroblast was close (about 58% boss hp), he passed my agro.
The pyro should be absorbed by Iceblock, although he wasn't able to do it in time, but you can always use your rezz-in-combat.

We did Priestess Delrissa, the trash before Kael and Kael himself without a tank (on heroic) very easily. Our group build was Holy Priest, Shadow Priest, Mage, Warlock and a Hunter. None of us were beyond T4 gear. For Kael, we just enslaved a Sister of Torment on the trash pull before him (I'm not sure if she's always there), had her tank to 50% and burnt him down fast, probably one of the fastest attempts I've ever seen. So if your tank leaves you for any of the last two boss fights, don't freak out, with the right group makeup (a lock would be mandatory), you don't need them.

Tanked as an Enhancement Shaman on Heroic. Very easy. Just wore PVP gear and his melee was only hitting for around 1000-1100 without a shield on. Fireballs only hit for around 4-5k max.
Just a nifty tidbit of info for anybody that's after the mount like me and ends up tanking the first three bosses on a different character :P

The best and easiest way to kill him is to go with a Rogue as a tank and let the real tank switch to DPS gear as Kael's fireballs are the only real threat.
The good things about it are that the Rogue has cloak of shadows to prevent fireballs from hitting him if he's on low HP and if he is Subtlety he will have 2 evasions(30 seconds of "invulnerability") and this must be enough to put the boss in 2nd phase. Also you shouldn't care about the Pyroblast because the Rogue will just Cheat Death it :)
The bad thing is only that the Rogue must be well-equipped so he can hold agro but if other DPS from the group use threat-reduction abilities it shouldn't be a problem.
I'm a Rogue myself and I've tanked this boss several times and there were no problems with it.

Im actually surprised he still uses normal fire moves. I would have thought that he would use a fel fireball and fel flamestrike since he's with the leigon now and all. He can be tough if your group doesnt know what they are doing. make sure you swim away during the gravity lapse. Resistances do nothing against his fireballs. Make sure you have a paladin because their divine shield can save you from it. Keep your tank well defended and make sure they dont get hit by orbs. A paladin tank is actually a good idea you can save your self a group with one of them. If you have any hunters make sure their pets are on passive for certain parts of this fight (gravity lapse for example) unless you want them running to their death and wasting themselves.

there is a cool way to get rid of that absorbing shield prevents interrputs on pyro.. it will pop up in 1 minute after the combat starts.. so just get a warlock with u to put curse of doom at the exact beginng (amphly if possble) So by the time Kael pops the shield Curse of Doom will deal high amount of damage so either shield will be destroyed (depending on the lock being affliction) or will be weakened, in a very short period of time

This boss is a walk in the park. On herioc, I was a holy paladin healing in PvP S1 gear and we had a protection tank. However the tank DC'd for over 10 minutes and so everyone was just about to give up, but really who gives up at the end boss?
So we got a holy priest in and I slapped on abit more Stamina and I easily kept aggro. With both myself and the priest spam healing me I survived his nukes and i even tanked the pheonixs at the same time. (bubbled on the pyroblast also)
We got him down after the second gravity lapse with everyone alive and the entire party on vent laughing.
So yer, next to the first boss in the dungeon i'd say Kael is the second easiest.

Just took him down about 20 minutes ago on Normal.

The whole instance requires good CC. Without it, Fail.
Killed Kael first time with only 2 deaths.
AND it was a PuG.
Just this simple fact is enough to prove he isn't hard at all on Normal.
Have not attemped Heroic yet.
But will do soon :)
Also, confirm most of the Above (Reflect, Inturrupts etc.)

Fun fact for all you shaman out there, regardless of spec. A Fire Elemental totem at the beginning of the fight can easily survive to the end, without any heals on it. The entire time you're floating in the air, the totem itself is whacking Kael, I'm not sure why, but it works (The elemental may have recieved heals during the first phase, but not once during Gravity Lapse)

So yeah we did a Heroic mgt and we got to the final boss. I am a lvl 70 resto druid and when we were fighting the last boss my group died at 51% with a Phoenix up. So i thought i was dead so i just moonfire spammed and got him to 50%. Then i ended up soloing him from 51% to 10% then my battle rez got done with its CD. So i Brezed the hunter and me and him killed kael. I used innervate 3 times. It is the easiest but longest fight ever. So even with a Phoenix up u can still solo him.

I've heard a lot of people complain about this fight in heroic as a druid tank, because warriors can last stand + shield wall and pallys can bubble to survive the pyroblast.
This is definitely doable as a druid tank if you have a rogue or a mage in your group and the omen addon.
Basically what you need to do is keep the mage (or rogue) right bellow the tanks threat (within 2-3 thousand), and when he starts to cast pyroblast you have the tank immediately stop building up threat and said mage or rogue burst - this will change his pyroblast target to the rogue or mage who can iceblock or CLoS it.

Mages can avoid the gravity lapse with a well-timed iceblock. Stay on the higher platform near the door, not down the steps, and you avoid getting pulled in, don't get the debuff, and don't get floor damage. You can dps at will without having to worry about swimming around and avoiding any orbs, save for those that stray a little close to the ground.

Ok, for all the idiots saying that Bliz messed up making the Blood Elves fight their own leaders, well Kael isn't their leader. You see, the Burning Legion is pissed off at Illidan for failing. Kael probably saw that they wouldn't win a war against hte Burning Legion, and that Illidan isn't as uber powerful as they are since he got WTF PWNed by Arthas. The story goes, that the blood elves of azeroth traveled to outland only to discover that their beloved leader had learnt to tap and dispell arcane magic by a demon called Illidan. Even worse, he left Illidan and sided with the demon lord Kil'jaeden. To their horror, they also found out that the warrior blood elves that went with Kael new about this and chose to side with Kael dispite the horde blood elves attempt to turn them back. The result of all this is that the horde elves desided that it was time to bring Kael down....once and for all.

I'll refresh your memory on what happened in WC3, obviously not everyone had played WC3..
Illidan was first ordered by Kil'jaden to destroy the frozen throne, he went to the Tomb of Sargeras and looked for the eye of Sargeras, he failed because his brother, Malfurion Stormrage thought Tyrande died over Illidan's actions, then Malfurion and Maive and this Paladin you save from that mission killed all the witches who were trying to activate the eye, first try failed..
Then Kil'jaden gave him another chance AFTER he and his gang ( Vashj and Kael'thas ) took out Magtheridon ( the previous lord of the black temple, a pit lord, not as mentioned above that Illidan took out some "Draenei" from the temple, duh..)
Illidan went and tried again, this time he was defeated by Arthas, yes it was an evenly matched fight but Arthas did beat him at the end ( remember the scene where Arthas cut him up deeply and he fell to the ground? ) so whoever said they ended up in a draw was another idiot.
I'm nowhere near the best player in the game but I sure as hell hate people twisting the storyline, it poisons the young who had never played WC3! like drugs! true history ftw!

Most Blood Elves don't know that Kael'Thas is evil. In fact, in the Blood Elf starting place, most of the people talk about going to Outland to meet up with Kael. Only the Scryer faction blood elves really know that Kael is working for the Burning Legion.
See, when Kael met up with Illidan in Outland, he sent a messenger back to Silvermoon just to say that Kael had found a way to master their hunger for magic. The messenger went to the Blood Elf city, and then told everyone what Kael told him to say. This is the last that the city had heard of their leader. A while after this, Kael went evil and joined the Burning Legion. However, Kael didn't send another messenger to say that he went evil, so everyone in the city didn't know about the side change, so they still think he is good.
The Scryer faction, they worked for Kael'Thas, but then they discovered that he went mad and joined the demons. Because of this, they defected and seeked shelter in Shattrath City. They now try to convince other Blood Elves that Kael is evil.

OK...go buy Warcraft 3 reign of Chaos, and The Frozen Throne. Beat both games without cheating, do NOT skip the cinematics, listen closely to everything...
Now...power lvl a toon to whatever lvl you get the tour quest in shatt... listen closely to EVERYTHING...that should explain everything.

Just for all you dumb arse people, Arthas didn't PWN Illidan, Arthas just managed to land a cheap blow in on Illidan that merely incapacitated him. Arthas being a dumb ^&*! assumed he was dead and wondered off into the Lich King's thrown room. Otherwise Illidan would have kicked the $%^& out of Arthas.
Going back in time, lvl 6 Illidan (or something around that) was equally powerful with lvl 10 Arthas. Illidan absorbed the Skull of Gul'Dan making him even more powerful. Arthas got weaker as did the Lich King but the Lich King returned his power at the last moment. If you do the level without cheats you end up back on lvl 10. But Illidan is still 4 or so levels stronger and has the Skull of Gul'Dan under his belt if you actually played WC3 you'd know that. Arthas strikes in a quick cheap shot and leaves Illidan with nothing more than a scratch on his torso. Then Arthas goes and combines with Ner'Zhul (the Lich King) making him stronger than Illidan, obviously. Then Illidan with a major wound to nothing but his ego goes back to the Black Temple to sit on his arse and sulk about being beaten by a pussy.
So don't ^&*!@ about Arthas being was tougher than Illidan because he's clearly not. The only thing stopping Illidan from following Arthas up the Frozen Thrown spire to kick his arse was it's not Arthas anymore its Ner'Zhul. As the whole storyline from WC3 goes Ner'Zhul chose Arthas to be his champion, so he brainwashed Arthas and made him free Ner'Zhul from the frozen thrown, then when Arthas outlived his usefulness Ner'Zhul assumed command of Arthas's body.

Since I have written a short strat on all bosses before Kael on thott, I finally gave in and decided to write one about him too. For perhaps more in depth info on this boss fight, visit wowwiki.com, for I get some of my detailed numbers from there (I seriously can't remember all the technicalities from memory).
Kael'thas is the last boss of The Eye in Tempest Keep. He is one of the hardest bosses in the game, at least harder than some of the bosses in Hyjal and Black Temple (Arguably first three bosses in each, mileage might vary). Many, MANY guilds spend months perfecting this fight (at least before the 2.3 nerf where all his adds got 10% of their hp knocked off), so don't be downtrodden if you can't seem to get the hang of it, many are with you. And yes, he does drop a phoenix mount, at a very small chance.
He has 5 phases in this encounter, with phase 4 being the key, and the 3-4 transition being the hardest transition. I'll list the phases in detail below.
Required (for all phases): 1 warlock tank w/ full fire resistance, ~8 healers (3 assigned add healers included), 3-4 (probably 4) tanks.
PHASE 1 (Relative difficulty: *, not a dps fight so relax)
During this phase Kael doesn't actually engage the raid. Just have someone run up to him (making sure all adds in the room are down, and the two pats in the hallways before him are gone). He'll start a short speech (~20 secs), after which the leftmost mob Thaladred the Darkener will aggro. There are altogether 4 advisors that'll aggro one after another, so you can take all the time you need to position them (key!) and take them down. The adds are in the order as follows.
1. THALADRED THE DARKENER: As described, he's the leftmost mob in full war t5 gear. Upon aggro, he'll target the closest person, but after around 2 seconds, he'll start his GAZE. During this time (short timer, 6 secs perhaps), the person who is gazed randomly will shoot up in aggro, so much aggro, in fact, that he'll 99% of the time be the guy he chases during this 6 seconds. DO NOT ever get close to him, for he'll probably one shot anyone that's not a tank. He runs at a slower speed than normal, so any class is more than capable of kiting him for one gaze. After the 6 seconds, he'll randomly pick another target and repeat this until his death. Be alarmed that he can gaze a person TWICE IN A ROW (or even 3, since it's random). He has another ability that randomly hits a person (most likely the person with gaze, but not all the time) with a 4-5k shot and send him/her flying across the room (50+ yrds distance). Be mindful that he does keep an aggro list, just that the gaze overrides it. If the gazed person dies, vanishes, bubbles, or iceblocks, he'll go after the one highest on threat for the remaining time of the gaze.
Strat: Our strat is to have everyone pile up in the center of the room. Once Thaladred targets a person, that person must immediately run out of the group (to the west) and then run south, making Thaladred pass in front of the group (maximum nukage). Once Thaladred switches gazes, the next gazed person must run out in the same manner, except that he/she must run north this time, making Thaladred pass in front of the raid again. Just repeat this, and if anything goes wrong, just be aware that as long as everyone tries to stay max distance away from him, he's cake (no melee on him, obviously). Try to position him so he dies in the SW corner.
2. LORD SANGUINAR: Despite having a surprisingly deep voice contrary to his appearance, this guy is more of a pushover. He does hit decently on your tanks, but that's about all he does. While his primary threat comes from his aoe fear (25-30 yr range), casting a fear ward on the main tank (possible for the horde since 2.3) negates this altogether.
Strat: Have the tank (or tanks) pull him to the middle of the eastern wall (inbetween the doorway and the pillar). Fear wards should be up on the tanks, and casters/healers should stand at max range. DO NOT pull aggro, this is not a dps race phase. Have a tank and healer assigned to him for phase 3.
3. GRAND ASTROMANCER CAPERNIAN: This mob constantly shoots a 6-7k fireball at the person highest on her aggro list. She'll attempt to aoe knockback anyone in melee range (so no melee on her at all), and will randomly conflagrate a person (this person could be the tanking lock, so it's a source of frustration; however, as long as the tanking lock is 30 yrds away, she shouldn't do this) and anyone around him for 900 fire damage every second for quite a long time. There's no way around her fireballs, and she doesn't melee.
Strat: Have a warlock in the raid with 200 unbuffed to full fire resistance tank her. When she comes, make sure a hunter misdirects her to the lock, who should be all the way in the SE corner (to the east of where Thaladred died, but far enough away from Sanguinar, who should've died on the opposite side of the doorway). Have an assigned healer on the lock (one is enough). Every ranged should spread out evenly as to avoid more than one target being conflagged, the conflagged should be healed up and kept up by all remaining healers. Did I mention that no melee should be on her?
4. MASTER ENGINEER TELONICUS: Again, one assigned tank, one assigned healer. The only thing he does is he throws bombs at the target highest on his threat list, and occasionally casts a debuff on a random person called remote toy. The bomb has a small radius, so all melee can engage him, except from opposite side of where the tank is. The remote toy acts like the bronze mark from Chromaggus from BWL, it occasionally (very randomly) freezes the target for a short duration (5 secs).
Strat: Have the tank first pull him to the NE corner, the little corner on the stage between the right pillar and the back scenery. Then all dps can engage. If a tank gets the remote toy debuff, it is recommended to stop dps and have it wear off before finishing him off.
Once you've downed all these 4 adds, congratulations, for the real fight begins.
PHASE 2 (Relative difficulty: **, AOE DPS RACE, duration: 1 min)
Once Telonicus goes down, you have but a few seconds before Kael spawns 7 weapons in front of him (in a semicircle). All the weapons should be rounded up by all the tanks and aoe'd down. The weapons are listed below with their specific abilities / strats.
Cosmic Infuser: The healing mace that spawns around the middle. It doesn't hit hard, a dps warrior in dps gear could tank it, but it casts heals on every weapon, and it has a holy nova that damages you and heals its allies. at least one warrior (the tank) and one rogue should be on it at all times to interrupt its heals. In fact, the melee should burn down this guy first. This mace tank could possibly tank another weapon, but it's not necessary.
Devastation: The two-handed axe that spawns right in the center in front of Kael. It whirlwinds, and the whirlwinds really hurt; have one tank tank this, and pull it all the way back to where Kael is. The tank must be mindful not to let it whirlwind anyone else, but also keep it in aoe range. Locks should put a CoD on this thing once the phase starts. It has a lot of hp, so it probably will be taken down in phase 3.
Infinity Blades: The daggers that spawn. They hit hard and fast, and a prot war is preferred to tank them (feral druid works). Just keep them in aoe range, for they don't cleave. The tank tanking this should also be tanking Staff of Disintegration.
Staff of Disintegration: A staff that spawns to the left. It aoe frost novas, and shoots frost bolts at the person highest on aggro. It is recommended to have a rogue on it to interrupt, otherwise not that big of an issue.
Warp Slicer: The sword of the bunch. It hits decently on a tank, but it's almost nothing to worry about. The tank tanking this should also tank the Phaseshift Bulwark. This might also have to be taken down in phase.
Phaseshift Bulwark: The shield, it shieldbashes, but that's about it. It has the most hp of the bunch, so probably will have to be taken down in phase 3.
Netherstrand Longbow: It occasionally multishots, but even a random ranged could tank through its damage. For this reason, have ALL your ranged kill this bow while the tanks build aggro on the other weapons at the beginning of the phase. Be mindful of who tanks it though.
Overall Strat: Like each of the small pieces of info above states, a dps tank on mace, a tank on sword/shield, a tank on axe, a tank on daggers/staff, and all the ranged on the bow while melee go for the mace. After the bow goes down, locks should spam seeds while mages aoe. Have tranquil air totems down in the lock/mage groups. You have only 1 min (or was it 1.5min, anyway, a short time) for everything, so make every aoe count. The mace and staff should go down first, when they're about to die, pull them a bit away from the aoe group. When each weapons die, everyone in raid should pick up the appropriate weapons (they drop LEGENDARIES that are required for the remaining fight). Every healer should get a mace, every dps caster (and feral druids) a staff, every rogue/melee dps a dagger (yes, a dagger even if you're combat swords) and a sword, every hunter should get a bow, and every warrior tank a sword an a shield. It is of the utmost priority that when the phase 3 mark draws near, all the phase 1 tanks (the lock and the other 3 tanks) go to where the adds died in phase 1 and be ready to pick them up... you might've guessed that this is coming.
NOTE: All dps casters should activate their staffs immediately and continue to activate it throughout the fight to make sure the buff is on all the tanks and everyone around them.
PHASE 3 (Relative difficulty: ***, one star dropped since 2.3, 2 min DPS RACE)
The phase transition comes abruptly, for while you still have the sword, shield, and axe up, poof, all the advisors in phase 1 gets ressed and starts attacking. All the strats listed in phase 1 applies, for nothing has changed, except that all 4 advisors engage at once. Have your ranged burn down the axe, and the melee burn down the sword / shield (we had our Sanguinar tank tank the sword/shield). The lock tank and the lock healer (that healer better be there) should be in position as the rest of the tanks. In fact, all the assigned healers should watch their tanks.
Be mindful of Thaladred, and since he poses the most threat, have the ranged go after him once all the weapons go down. The melee should first tackle Sanguinar. The melee and tank healers could be targeted, so again, be mindful of him. Once Thaladred is down, everyone should kill Sanguinar, then the melee should go for Telonicus and the ranged should go for Capernian. This phase is healing intensive, make sure everyone is topped off.
Just when you think things couldn't be anymore chaotic, Kael himself joins the fight and starts phase 4.
NOTE: Capernian should be almost dead when Kael spawns, and Telonicus should be at 50%. If you're good, you could actually kill all advisors before phase 4.
PHASE 4(Relative difficulty:*****, dps till 50%)
Finish off the advisors, but before that, make sure your main tank is up in front of him before he spawns. It is key to have a person with the staff activate it near the main tank. Kael's abilities are as follows.
Melee: He hits decent in melee (possible 7k hits), heals on the tank).
Fireball: A fireball that hits for ~12k (I think?) on a non-mace buffed target (6-7k on your tank). It's interruptible, so have your melee not let him cast.
Mind Control: Randomly mind controls 3-4 targets, increasing their size and damage. The only way to dispel this is with time and the legendary dagger. Have at least 2 melee equip the dagger and hit (but not kill!) the mind controlled targets to bring them out of it. CC them with sheeps/fears meanwhile.
Arcane Disruption: An approximately 2k aoe that hits everyone occasionally, nothing to do except to heal through it.
Flamestrike: Please move out of this thing. It's around a 3-4 second cast, and the targeted area is marked with a very obvious Warcraft 3-esque flamestrike mark. Anyone standing in this when it blows will be instantly killed, including the main tank. Make sure your spell details is on high and avoid this at all costs even if it means moving Kael and the whole melee group. The remaining fire after the explosion still ticks for 3k every sec, so stay out.
Summon Phoenix: One key component to this fight. He'll spawn on e initially, and you should have a FR tank tank it away from the group (but close to kael for easy melee transition). The bird will hellfire itself to death. Once it dies, an egg spawns. You have approximately 15 secs to kill the egg. If you don't the egg pops and another phoenix with full hp spawns. Kael won't mind it, and will actually spawn another one on top of that. If you can't take down the eggs fast enough, soon you'll get overrun with phoenixes. Take note that the phoenix tank could get mc'd, so have an offtank ready to taunt them. Also have the phoenix tank call out when the phoenix is about to die.
Shock Barrier and Pyroblast: The other key component to this fight. On occasion (every 1 min?), he'll throw up a shock barrier on himself that damages anyone who attacks him (very light damage). The shield has approximately 100,000 hp. However, while he has it up, he'll charge up 3 consecutive 4 second cast pyroblasts. If your tank isn't shielded / buffed or even Last Standed / Shield Walled, he'll get one shot. To deal with this, have all the dps burn the shield down while the tank activates the legendary shield to absorb the first pyroblast. The dps should be able to get the shield and interrupt the 2nd and 3rd pyroblasts. A phoenix egg and a shield WILL overlap eventually even though they're on a separate timer, so make sure the phoenix tank take note of it and call out for the dps to kill the pheonix and egg before the barrier comes up. If necessary, the tank with high enough hp should be able to take a pyroblasts with shields / buffs such as nightmare seeds. Make Shield Wall your last choice.
To sum it all up, run out of flamestrikes, interrupt the fireballs, dispel the mind controls with the daggers, tank the phoenixes away from others, kill the eggs, and burn through his shock barriers and interrupt the pyroblasts. Positioning isn't important, but make sure your tank has the staff buff, for he can get stunned. Once you get Kael to 50%, phase 5 starts, and you're almost done.
PHASE 5(Relative difficulty:***, DPS him dead)
At 50%, he'll fly up into the air and do all kinds of really cool animations before coming down onto the ground all big and mad(he becomes quite huge).
Phase 5 is the same as phase 4, except much easier for while he still does the shock barrier, he doesn't pyroblast. The added twist is that on occasion he'll do a gravity lapse. He'll teleport everyone to his feet and throw them up into the air. Everyone should then "swim" out and spread out in all three dimensions. Nobody should be close to him during the gravity lapse for he has clouds around him that decreases the maximum hp of anyone in them (so the tank should stay away too). If you touch the ground during the gravity lapse, you'll just be thrown back up, so stay near the ground but don't touch it (when the gravity lapse ends, you fall, so keep close to the ground). During gravity lapse he'll also shoot beams at random targets. The beams jump to other targets if you're too close, so spread out. Nobody should bother dps'ing Kael during the gravity lapse, for he'll most likely have a shock barrier up, and since the tank isn't near him to hold aggro, all kinds of bad things happen. There'll still be phoenixes up, but you just have to kill the eggs when the lapse ends for the phoenixes kind of freeze during the gravity lapse. Take note that for a few seconds after the gravity lapse ends, he still has clouds around him and he still shoots the beams, so have your tank and raid watch out for that.
Do not pull aggro, keep the tank up, and you're done. You're officially Hyjal attuned, and have joined the ranks of the better guilds world wide :).

Kael'thas Sunstrider is the fourth, and final, boss of Tempest Keep: Eye (20 man raid). He also has four council members that you have to fight
ON AGGRO: Kael'thas will say "Energy. Power. My people are addicted to it. Their dependence made manifest after the Sunwell was destroyed. Welcome to the future...a pity you're too late to stop it. No one can stop me now. Selama ashal'anore. (which translated means "Justice to our people") You will then have to fight his first advisor, Thaladred the Darkener. Kael'thas will say "Let us see how your nerves hold up against the Darkener, Thaladred."
NOTE: You CANNOT target Kael'thas until the last stage of the fight.
Thaladred has two main attacks. Gaze, which turns his attention to another member of the raid. Mainly a healer, and start attacking. You will know who to help as there will be event text that says "Thaladred sets his gaze on *name*"
There is also Knockback, which, as the name states, knocks the targeted person back, dealing usually 4k-5k damage.
After defeating Thaladred, you will face advisor number two, Lord Sanguinar. Kael'thas will say "You have persevered against some of my best advisors. But none can withstand the might of the hammer. Behold, Lord Sanguinar." The only main attack Sanguinar has is a 30 yard Fear attack. Not much, fairly easy to defeat.
Following Thaladred, you will fight Grand Astromancer Capernian. She makes up for the cloth armor in having the most attacks of any advisor. Kael'thas will again say "Capernian will see to it that your stay here is a short one." Capernian has three attacks. Fireball, which does 6k-7k damage on the targeted player. Arcane Explosion, which not only does 4.5k damage, but also knocks all players back within melee range. And conflagration, which targets a random raid player within 30 yards of her, again a healer, and casts Conflagrate, which is an AoE debuff. Every player within a 5 yard radius wanders disoriented and dealing 600-900 damage to themselves and all nearby players for 10 seconds. If you can avoid these attacks, she will be very easy to defeat.
The final advisor, and certainly the hardest, is Master Engineer Telonicus. Kael'thas will say "Well done. You have proven worthy to test your skills against my Master Engineer, Telonicus." Telonicus has no main attacks, but has two main items at his disposal. A that deals 7k-9k damage, thrown at the target holding aggro, and a Remote Toy, which places the Remote Toy debuff on a random raid member. The debuff lasts 60 seconds, and will periodically stun the affected player for 4 seconds. Other than that, Telonicus is just a DPS boss.
After all the advisors have been defeated, you're only just starting. Moving on to stage two is going to get you the legendary items. Kael'thas will say "As you can see, I have many weapons in my arsenal." These weapons have around 200k-300k health, and are lootable for 60 seconds after . Supposedly, every player can loot every weapon, and get every legendary item, but you really only need one. You fight the actual weapons in this. This stage will last for roughly two minutes, then stage three will automatically start.
Kael'thas will resurrect all of his advisors, saying "Perhaps I underestimated you. It would be unfair to make you fight all four Advisors at once, but...fair treatment was never shown to my people. I'm just returning the favor." and you will have to face all of them at the same time. You only have two minutes to do this, so make sure you know what you're doing. This stage is the main whiping stage, since there are so many enemies to face.
Thaladred is the biggest threat, and must be killed first. Leave any remaining weapon enemies and have all ranged DPS players attack Thaladred. Thaladred, as before, will change his aggro target. However, it's much more sensitive this time, so only have 1 or 2 melee DPS on him. The rest of the raid should focus on Lord Sanguinar. Once Thaladred is killed off, have every player focus on Sanguinar. Once he's , have all melee DPS on Telonicus and all casters on Capernian. A good sign is when you only have Telonicus alive when stage four begins. If he isn't you're going to have a really tough boss fight
Stage four will begin with Kael'thas saying "Alas, sometimes one must take matters into one's own hands. Balamore shanal!"(Which translates into Kael'thas) Kael'thas has obviously many attacks. Here is a list I found, courtesy of Wowwiki.
Fireball – ~12.5k fire damage after Infernal Protection mitigation. Can (and should) be interrupted.
Mind Control – Mind controls a few people in the raid.
Arcane Disruption – 1750-2250 Arcane damage and a 10 second disorient.
Flamestrike – (115625-134375 initial damage, ~3k per second ) – set Spell Detail level to High in order to see these. Similar to Void Zones, they do damage per second if you stand in them. Will give a few seconds to run out of the Flame Strike. Does not spawn a phoenix.
Summon Phoenix – The graphic to this summon is identical to the Flamestrike, however, in less than a second, the Phoenix is born and causes a small knockback to anyone in the area of effect. Will turn into a Phoenix Egg when they die, and this egg will resurrect the phoenix if not killed within roughly 15 seconds.
Shock Barrier - Absorbs 80,000 damage, immunity to interupts, lasts 10 seconds. He casts this immediately before the 3 consectutive Pyroblasts, and also when he casts gravity lapse (a couple of times during gravity lapse actually).
Pyroblast – Base spell damage is 45k-55k fire damage, interruptible (he casts Shock Barrier immediately before casting 3 of these). Immediately after the 3rd pyroblast (whether he gets it off or not), he will cast Arcane Disruption.
Gravity Lapse – All members of raid are teleported to him and shot into the air, everyone can “Swim” and needs to get away from each other. At the end of this ability the raid will fall to the ground and take fall damage. Note: If you go too near to the ground during Gravity Lapse, you will get punted high up, potentially increasing the chance you'll die from fall damage.
Nether Beam – 1850-2150 arcane damage, jumps to nearby players. Randomly targeted while players are under the effects of Gravity Lapse. Damage doubles as it chains (similar to C'Thun eye beam attack).
Nether Vapor – Appear as small black clouds floating around in the air with you. If touched they add a stacking debuff that reduces your max health by 10% each time, reducing your health by up to 90%. (Thanks to Wowwiki)
Kael'thas will say either "Obey me." or "Bow to my will." upon casting Mind Control. This is a very annoying attack and he will cast this alot. After 30-40 seconds in stage four, Kael'thas will summon a Phoenix, while saying either "Anara'nel belore!"(Which translated means Kael'thas), or "By the power of the sun!". The summoning will look like the Mages Flamestrike ability, and any players in the flamestrike range will be knocked back, but will lose no damage. The Phoenix should be targeted by the ranged DPS groups until he dies. The phoenix will cast a hellfire ability that hits itself for about 5%, and anybody else around it for about 2.5k-3.5k damage. It will cast this every second, so it will have a life span of about 20 seconds. Of course, it has a suicidal attack. This one will explode and knock back any players in range, and turn into an egg. The egg itself has about 70k health, and it MUST BE KILLED. Otherwise it will respawn and just be a trouble.
About 60 seconds into stage four, Kael'thas will cast Shock Barrier immediately followed by 3 successive Pyroblasts. If you have some dumb players right next to Kael'thas, they WILL get killed by this. It has about a 40k-50k damage base. This can be dodged, but you might lose a few people.
This entire sequence will cycle again and again until Kael'thas is at 50% health, at which he will become invulnerable, and there will be a little cutscene. Kael'thas will say "I have not come this far to be stopped! The future I have planned will not be jeopardized! Now, you will taste true power!" During this time, take care of any phoenix enemies that may be around.
NOTE: While it is very rare, sometimes stage 4 and 5 will begin at the same time, which is an absolute nightmare. He will become invulnerable and will probably kill off half the raid. While it might not happen to you, just make sure that your tanks and DPS's are forewarned.
Once stage five begins, Kael'thas loses Mind control and Pyroblast. Imstead, he gets Gravity Lapse, a 30 second raid-wide debuff that makes everyone float and swim in the air. Kael'thas will say either "Having trouble staying grounded?" or "Let us see how you fare when your world is turned upside down." upon casting. This is insanely annoying, as he will still be casting flamestrikes and summoning Phoenixs, so make sure you're prepared for it.
When Gravity lapse is cast, all aggro will be reset, so just be ready. Try not to be too high up in the air, otherwise it's a long way down when the debuff is gone. Kael'thas will also cast Shock Barrier while casting Gravity lapse, so attacking him is useless.
Now it's just trying to attack Kael'thas for the rest of stage five. However, it may get tougher, as the legendary weapons will disappear around 25%, or 15 minutes after loot. You can still do it, but the fight itself will just drag out for a bit longer. Kael'thas will be finished with the quote "For...Quel...thalas!" and will Die.

Strategy my guild came up with. No one dropped below 50% health..

"STAY TOGETHER, don't fly around willy-nilly. That's right... the normal survival thought of spreading out to keep the enemy guessing is thrown right out the window! The best strategy here is to cluster together and stay together at all times. As soon as you have control, swim away to the door you entered from, and hover a few inches off the floor. If you try to touch the floor, you will be thrown back up in the air and have to come back down. So hover there for a while and let your healer crap their pants trying to keep up with your health. When the orbs start getting close, everyone shoots straight up into the air and flies straight to the back of the room behind Kael. At this point, everyone still needs to stay near each other so that the healer doesn't have an aneurysm but now you can continue beating on the a**hat. Just before the spheres come back to you, the anti-grav ends, and Kael goes down on one knee. At this point, for a short time (maybe 10 seconds) Kael takes 50% more damage from your attacks, so go all out! After this, he gets up and throws you back up into the air, and you repeat the same strategy. We downed him when the second wave of anti-grav ended, and nobody died that encounter."

for all the warrior tanks for read this, there is a way to mitigate the pyroblast damage.
as a prot warrior with 14.7k hp (16.8k group buffed) i tanked this with ease. pyro hit me for 44.8k normal.
teh trick is the pop "Last Stand" and "Shield Wall" when you see him casting it, but make sure you have aggro, otehr wise its a waste.
i had 22.3k hp with last stand up, and with shield wall up it mitigated the 44k pyro blast to only 11.4k pyroblast. which was only half my hp

Things that tend to go wrong in my groups:
When dps is low, or the bird and egg is not killed fast, in the worst case we end up with 2 birds at the same time, so killing the bird slow is not an option.
I'd say it seems they are on a timer, so we preferably nuke the bird down and then the egg as fast as possible, then go full out on kael to get him to 50% before he spawns an other.
What goes wrong in gravity lapse is people desperately trying to dps the boss, or landing on the floor etc. Instead of just relaxing and staying safe in the air, to then nuke when they land.
There is no excuse for dying during gravity lapse, healers dont need to heal much, and kael from 50% wont target anyone, so dont worry about aggro, just stay safe in the air, and nuke him down when you land, if you have trouble looking in all directions while dpsing when up there!
Taking chanses is just a nice way of wiping your group.

It is pretty much essential, as far as i can tell, to time things so that you take out the Phoenix and then the egg JUST before he hits 50% health. Timed correctly the egg is destroyed and he goes into Phase II with no Phoenix...........if you take out he Phoenix too fast and the egg comes too early you will almost certainly face another Phoenix.
Rogues can Shadowstep down out of the gravity flux for a few seconds of DPS before getting taken back up again - so unload as much as you can ;P He is, of course, immune to mind numbing poison so you'll only kick one in 2-3 fireballs.
Pally healers have a rough time due to needing to move when in the air >> hard to heal. I'm guessing HoT heals for the win in phase II and it is even worth using regualar ranged firepower as a war/rogue when you are in the air because every bit of damage helps (and he has very few HPs).

Okay, so Kael in Magister's Terrace is a fairly simple affair, but positioning counts.
Durning phase 1, he will cast Fireball at his main target, cast a flame strike ability at a random target, and summon a phoenix.
The fireball is interruptable, but he casts it constantly so it won't help too much. The flame strike is preceeded by three oval-orb shapes orbiting the target location, anyone inside the orbs needs to move fast or get fried.
The phoenix is the biggest hassle. It has a wicked AoE fire attack that it spams constantly. Someone should aggro it and kite it (I've found a warlock works best). It has low HP, and when it dies, it spawns an egg. The Phoenix and its egg both need to be destroyed before Kael reaches 50%...but not too quickly or a new one will be summoned.
At 50%, Kael enters phase 2. If a phoenix is alive, it will begin to cast fireballs, as well as healing Kael of alot of damage (as well as itself, I believe). Either way, he casts Gravity Lapse, causing all members of the group to float in the air, while dealing 300 or so Arcane damage to each person every few seconds. There will be bluish orbs floating around that deal around 2k damage per tick, and you must fly/swim through the air to avoid them. DO NOT touch the ground during this time or you will explode for more damage. DPS when you can while avoiding the orbs (tanks or melee DPS probably want to remain near the door while avoiding them, they are little use now). After a bit, Gravity is restored, and Kael stops to rest. This is when you will hit him the hardest.
Once you master the manuevering and timing on this fight, its quite simple.
I haven't had the chance to run it Heroic yet, but the only difference I know of is that he casts Pyroblast, which must be interrupted or is will apparently 1-shot anyone. I don't know if this can be reflected by warriors, but I imagine the boost to the groups DPS would be worth a try if it is.
Please, someone update anything I missed, or further information about the Heroic fight.

KT has about 30 seconds of RP to go through before the fight starts. You can skip this if you engage him while in combat with the previous pack. He will instantly start fighting you if you head towards him with one mob still up.
