Spellstrike Hood + Pants make a great addition to the Specialist Tailoring Patterns (spellfire/frozen shadoweave/etc) since those 3 schools allow you to make BoP Vest, Belt and Gloves.
This or battlecast garb would rock da' house!

This set requires a total of
20 Spellcloth
10 Primal Might
2 Primal Nether
Harsh for those planning on buying the Might, which is about 100-150g/piece depending on server so you're probably better off farming them on your own. If you're really lucky and have a transmute master for a friend, it might take half the time or considerably less...

Edit (13 Feb 08): Now that I've replaced my Battlecast (and replaced that gear too, and also that gear), i'll say I wish I had crafted spellstrike for my affliction lock. Hit rating remains precious for a long time. With the advent of grindable S1 arena gear, crafting Battlecast for pvp seems silly too. RIP Battlecast =( Original post follows.
I'd like to see more thought put into comparing Spellstrike Infusion to Battlecast Garb (
https://www.cuckhead.com/tbc/itemset=572#z0z
). Compared the Battlecast, this set has (including socket bonuses):
44 more spell crit rating (+1.99%)
38 more spell hit rating (+3.02%; remember there's a max hit rating)
3 more spell damage
2 more yellow sockets
49 less stamina (-490 hp)
35 less intellect (-525 mana, about -.43% crit)
The extra yellow gems could recover 16 int or add 16 spell crit rating (to mitigate the crit loss versus Battlecast due to the Int difference) if you use rare gems. The effect appears to be that Spellstrike Infusion makes "glass cannons" without as much staying power. This difference probably makes Spellstrike more viable for raiding than for PVP, since casters will be one- or two-shotted by trash in Karazhan, no matter how much health they stack.
As for class comparisons, Affliction or Demonology Warlocks may benefit less from the crit rating and may instead prefer additonal health and mana. On the other hand, Magi get extra bonuses for crits, and can talent their frost spells to crit for 250% damage.
So by my analysis, there are two clear-cut cases. Affliction/Demonology Warlocks who PVP should choose Battlecast, whereas raiding Magi should choose Spellstrike.
The set bonuses appear to reinforce the PVP vs. raiding idea, since casters in raids can't be hit in the first place: Battlecast's bonus loses value in a raiding context since any caster suffering from spell pushback probably just got critted for 15k by a skeletal usher who ice tombed the tank. Then again, events requiring AoE can go wrong when casters get hit... During the Terestian Illhoof encounter, the imps can get out of control and effectively silence the Warlock with a constant stream of fireballs. The value of a 5% chance to resist pushback in this case still seems dubious. When you're desperately trying to get that polymorph off in a 2v2 arena though, resisting an interrupt or a couple pushbacks could spell a win. Additionally, note that the maximum beneficial +spellhit% in pvp is smaller than in raids, since most chance to "miss" with spells is level-based. Of course there are exceptions... when targeting a rogue with cloak of shadows, +90% hit rating would be nice.
Also note that materials for Battlecast are significantly cheaper, so players may decide on a benefit-per-cost basis, which favors Battlecast. Of course, benefit-per-cost decisions would probably advise that one not raid at all, since most upgrades from rare to epic since BC are marginal at best.
Does this mean that Spellstrike is "higher end" than Battlecast, despite the lack of stats?

People always talk about mage vs warlock, forgetting that every guild nowadays wants their priests to be shadow. They're in the same boat as affliction warlocks, only getting marginal benefits from crit rating, so I would assume they would go for spellstrike unless they specifically want a balls-out PvP set.
Of course, you could always get both >.>. I don't recomend doing that unless you're a really lucky transmute-speced alchemist.

All good points. So from my understanding for raiding affliction warlocks it becomes a trade-off for personal preference:
Do you want that extra damage output and/or are a bit gimped on the +hit that you need a big boost from Spellstrike...
...Or do you want that larger mana pool from the extra Int and Life-Tapped Stam from Battlecast to assist in sustaining your existing damage output?
Stam for survivability is rather insignificant, since it has been said previously that you generally won't last long if you're being pounded on no matter how many health you have, and the stun resist set bonus seems more tuned to PvP. While on the other hand Spellstrike does put emphasis on +crit which is wasted on our DoTs. There are add-ons out there that allow you to see what % of your overall damage output is coming from certain spells, which could help you decide your +crit viability.
Although planning ahead and thinking of the big picture can easily change this; you could make up for the deficiencies in one by socketing/enchanting both it and other armor.

imo, spell crit is still an important part of an affliction lock's set, if your items have it, then there's no point in whining. Well I'm speaking as if every raiding affliction lock has improved shadowbolt, but you should if you don't already.

This set was one of the best decisions I've made to upgrade my Warlock's gear. I got this set yesterday and went 2 heroics (UB and SP) and Karazhan after that. The followings are my experience:
One thing I've realized, since at least half of our spells are instant cast so proc rate is more often then castable spells. So at least in the 25% of the fights I had the buff which is really nice boost especially when using it with trinket buffs. So it really increases your damage done.
Another and more important thing, if I'm not mistaken, in AoE groups both in heroics and in Kara when Seed of Corruption explodes it triggered the buff as well. So not only when it "lands" on the target but also when it explodes and damages the whole group you're getting a chance of triggering it. If you're spamming SoC like i do in AoE groups probably in every group you're gonna get the buff more than once. So in a sense I wish this effect would stack up to 5 times for example =)
I haven't tried Rain of Fire since my Shadow Damage is much more than Fire maybe the consequences will be different.

you guys make it sound like it all that bad! yeah doing all the crap andgetting everything for it is a total pain in the ass but in the time it takes you to farm for the patteren/or have some one make it for you, you can make 3 different cloths! you can trade or sell for more spell/mights/cloth/w/e it is that you need. you dont spend that much glod if you farm the primals you make a good chunk of money doing it. and farming cloth you get money + rep plus in all this farming you get a lot of greens!
i have farmed many of mats for both my alch and talioring and have spent a %^&* TONE of gold but i stay about even in my wallet.

I'm a destruction lock and I'm having these made (I don't have the pattern). I'm a transmute-specializing alchemist, so I can make my own Primal Mights. I dropped herbalism several weeks ago and took up tailoring. It took 3-4 weeks to get to 375 tailoring, but it was worth it (I'm specialized in Shadowcloth). I made 4 Shadowcloth and traded them for 4 Spellcloth and bought the remainder I needed. In any case, I would say, if you are a destruction lock, these are the pants for you. The crit is beyond insane (my dream is 33% crit). If you're an affliction lock, I'd go with the Battlecast set (because of the higher long-term damage).

battlecast or spellstrike is only a matter of what you are doing. if you pvp get battle if you raid id go with spellstrike since the +stamina giving you another 500hp isnt really going to help when the boss hits you for 8k.
Raid = spellstrike
PVP = battlecast

just to mention... I'm a lock (currently affliction) and I use neither of the sets. They're both awesome, agreed, but I am an engineer (the lost and forgotten profession, i used to think^^) and wear the goggles from there; right when I was thinking about having the battlecast pants made, I got the trial fire trousers from the opera event
https://www.cuckhead.com/tbc/item=28594/
试炼火焰长裤. I like this equipment very much, and here are the advantages I see:
the pants are available, also to a player who may have none of the crafted pants, as the opera event imo is reachable also by groups only starting to go into karazhan (we were mostly blueish equipped), and I think they're better than battlecast. some players might miss the hit&crit; if compared with spellstrike, but the stats make up for that, also in PvE. at least for me.
and the goggles
https://www.cuckhead.com/tbc/item=32494/
毁灭全视护目镜 - they're so cheap to make (i guess because they're bop), I have made myself a pve and a pvp version^^ (that is, 12spelldmg/speed + 5sdmg/6sta gems in one, 18sta/5%stunresist + 12 sta gems in the other).
I didn't write this to piss on the tailors' feet, just to prevent some poor enigneers from wasting their time changing professions.
thanks for reading ;)

Currently the socket bonus of both items of this set is bugged.
It says the socket bonus is 6 Stanima on both, but it's not true.
When you socket all gems in the right color it looks like this:
"here is your blue gem)
(here is your yellow gem)
(here is your red gem)
+4 Stamina (wroten in green color)
Socket Bonus: +6 Stamina"
So you might think it adds 10 stamina, but it's only 4 when you count your hp difference with and without the item.
So the true bonus is only 4 stamina.

From my experience, the set bonus effect can proc from any individual missle from Arcane Missles. I began to notice this when the effect procced sometimes during the start of the cast, middle, end, or refreshing. If this is true and from all signs so far it is, Arcane Missle specced is the best way to fully utilize the effect of this set bonus as a mage.
