The data for this article was taken from the
Castle Nathria Statistics Page on Warcraft Logs
under the Shadowlands Season 1 partition at the 95th percentile for Mythic difficulty in the window.
The idea of this article is to give a perspective of the state of class balance for Castle Nathria in Shadowlands Season 1 after the recent
buffs to 10 under performing specs
.
We say perspective, as there are inherent biases in looking at the data this way.
Specs that are considered underpowered are generally played less and tend to appear weaker than they actually are.
This happens as many performance-oriented players will tend to play the strongest spec or class, increasing even further the gap between top and bottom specs.
The balance between specs is very delicate and will likely change throughout Season 1, as player acquire more gear, different classes and specs tend to perform better with more secondaries.

Spec Analysis for February 2nd Week
With tuning happening for
many specs
, we've had a lot of movement rankings. We've asked our writers to share their opinions on some of the specs with most changes compared to the previous week.
Feral Druid
While Feral continues to remain in the upper quartile for overall castle nathria bosses, keen eyes may have noticed that it did drop a solid chunk of rankings. Now with no feral changes having occurred this might prompt people to wonder what might have caused this, especially with high feral ranks beginning to show towards the top of overall on some bosses (Maystine holding a respectable position on shriekwing, and hungering destroyer, while 索尔迦雷欧 currently holds number one on artificer). Looking through the earlier bosses in the instance (much as we did last time) Feral does appear to be broadly in the same position as it was before, it excels on single target bosses while falling behind on those bosses where AOE can inflate things, namely Council of blood, and Sun King's salvation. So what could have prompted such a drop?
Using warcraftlogs statistics tool and reviewing data across the whole tier we can see that the drop occurred exactly on the 4th of February. So what happened on that day? there weren't any hotfixes? Looking further at what occured on that day we see that the first public logged Feral kill on Stone Legion Generals happened! (Congratulations to Cvert of Country Club on that) and that almost solely is what has dragged the average down! This is not the first time this has happened this tier as Discipline suffered much the same when the first Discipline priest killed Sun King.
Now there are two things to take from this, firstly it is likely that feral will climb up a few more ranks as more ferals kill the boss, secondly is Stone Legion Generals such a bad fight for feral? Much the same as earlier bosses where feral has looked weaker stone legion has a solid amount of AOE, in particular burst AOE, and priority target damage. AOE as we have seen in earlier fights is where feral falls a little flatter compared to other specs. In my opinion this is certainly not one of Feral's best fights.
Destruction Warlock
With the 5% aura buff to Destruction this reset, more people have tried it out in both dungeons and in raids, and Destruction has seen much more play now then before. As forseen, it's still behind Affliction in more or less every scenario for raiding, but it's able to compete more now than in the past. Cleave has always been the strong point of Destruction and this is still the case. Many of the encounters in Castle Nathria offer good Havoc windows and it's likely we'll see more people try out Destruction on specifically these encounters.
Arcane Mage
Nothing has actually changed for Arcane to effect its popularity - rather, the game has changed around it, in the form of overall Mythic raid progress.
You'd expect the number of Arcane parses to increase as more guilds enter Mythic Castle Nathria, and they have - but nowhere near as much as the other two specs. Since its recent number tuning, Frost is putting in a respectable showing for a middle-of-the-pack spec, while Fire - with all of its tools like mobility, short cooldowns, great cleave, execute and a cheat death - is THE meta spec. Arcane's niche used to be frequent burst, but with Kindling and Shifting Power taking Combustion to a one-minute cooldown, the spec brings nothing that Fire can't do more easily.
Arcane does reasonably well on Shriekwing and Huntsman Altimor, but later bosses accenuate the spec's weak points. It revolves around damage during cooldowns and, unlike Fire and Frost, has to stand and cast rather than using instant procs. Encounters like Hungering Destroyer, Stone Legion Generals and especially Artificer Xy'mox really don't allow that rooted style of play. Unless something changes in either Blizzard's design philosophy or the spec at a base level, Arcane will be lucky to get a single competitive fight in a tier.
