This is a horribly buggy quest. Half of the mobs despawn before you can even kill them, and the drop rate is atrocious. How it made it to live this way is beyond me.

I noticed that mobs seem to despawn if they are damaged in any way by a friendly NPC. The one I had the most difficulty with was the Ghastly Willbreaker, which kept running into the friendly NPCs against the wall within the highlighted area of the quest. However, you can find more of them sitting outside the quest boundary that are easy to kill and from what I can tell so far, none of those have despawned for me.

It's only the shades that are inside the tremaculum that will yield quest count. The ones that are on the outside of the gates rushing towards the defences will not give count.

So this may not work for everyone, but here is what helped me do this pretty quick:

1. Avoid the mobs on that tower/rampart where the quest givers are and the ones either inside or outside of the quest area that seem to spawn just to rush the friendly NPCs. They all despawn even if you kill them 100% and no NPC touches them (or at least they did for me for a long time every time).

2. Go to the mobs just hanging out and tag them in bulk then drag them to the NPCs. Some won't chase that far but many will, making collection of quest loot faster.

3. The Ghastly Willbreakers that aren't pre-programmed fodder are furthest from friendly NPCs and hardest to get to chase you all the way to your allies. Sometimes they will, but those are largely slower to get drops from because of the lack of bulk slaughter.

Truly horrendous drop rates. Been doing this quest for a couple of hours. Died about 20 times. Collected the other things but still only 1 Ghastly Crown. Very, very difficult and frustrating. You're probably better doing something else, like overtime at work, than this PITA.

The crowns have an atrociously low drop rate (maybe 1 in 3/4) when taking into consideration that you need 6 of them and that there are only about 15-16 spawns in the area.

I hate this quest with a passion. No matter how many times you do it it will always be the Crowns that give you a problem.

The idiots gave them a long rng drop rate for some reason. Every time I've done this assault (when this quest is up) I've spent the majority of my time grinding for Crowns. And of course, so is everyone else.

Tip: Don't kill the mobs near the ramparts (or anywhere near friendly NPCs) because once a friendly NPC tags the mob, they'll despawn on death and won't let you loot them for the quest items!

There are about 3 mobs that regularly spawn at 27,14 near the stairs that are outside the quest area but still drop crowns.

Horrible drop rates. Specifically of the "Ghastly Crown" part.
As another said, 27,14. Mobs spawn on the stairs DO drop crowns. This was more successful for me.

Because of the unparalleled level of incredible programming skills and expertise by Blizz, the Ghastly Willbreakers will vanish when you defeat them rather than dying and dropping loot, making this quest a grueling chore. Only about 3 or 4 Willbreakers appear that actually drop loot, and I'm sure you won't be shocked to hear the drop rate is not guaranteed. They spawn only in a tiny area and most vanish when killed. With dozens of players going after them at a time, you're in for some truly epic, memorable WoW fun!

The least painful way to finish this quest is to stand at the base of stairs at 27,5 14,5 (Prince Renathal is behnd them). There are few spawns around that spot that will actually drop loot upon kill. And every now and then Nascent Shade walks by, so everything should be done in a fairly short time.

Hmmm... So not only do enemies disappear before you can loot them if tagged by AI, but you do not actually exit combat. I'm glad they didn't forget to include my favourite, least frustrating bug.
