This boss is in the graveyard wing. At the very end there is a tunnel going underground. He should be att the end of it.

This boss is not difficult at all, and even easier with patch 2.1. He goes down really fast and all you have to do is watch for his flame spike aoe attack, very simple really.

this one is very easy doable with three 31-32 hunters (at least one of them must be BM) a priest (about 28 is enough) and another dps, preferably mage (32-34), but rogue's fine as well.
with this setup, the graveyard can be cleared in 45 minutes (includes killing every single mob in there)

Sm grave is the most boring instance in the whole game: short and only like 1boss.

Tried to solo him at level 34. I am a fire spec'd mage, I got him to about half health and made him run out of mana before I died :(.
I reccomend 2-manning this instance for good experience at level 33-34.

Very easy after patch 2.3, i soloed it as a lvl 34 (resto) druid. Nice way to make some money if you are also an enchanter. Just stealth to the last boss, kill him, loot him, and have fun :D.

This is the only boss in SM that doesn't appear in durn(not including the rares in gy), he has a very small backround story.

Since I'm not receiving any response I will babble a bit about the subject. I quote WoWWiki:

Although he lacks any distinguishing mortal features, judging from his title it is assumed that Thalnos was once a blood elf mage prior to his undeath.

I would first of all like to note that I don't know of any member of the Scarlet Crusade/Onslaught that isn't a human (save two dreadlords). Of course the WoWWiki quote is just speculation, but if you've played Warcraft 3 you'll recognize the Blood Mage. And then there's the more obvious Blood Elf. The talk about vengeance can also be related to this.

However, quests such as Mythology of the Titans mention that "there was a bastion of knowledge tucked away in the Tirisfal Glades" and that "The Monastery was a seminary for Paladins-in-training. Once a stronghold of the Light, it fell into the hands of the crazed zealots of the Scarlet Crusade."

Therefore, it may not be a complete miss to guess that someone like this Thalnos had been there as a guest (since it sounds like it had once been a more hospitable place), reading a book, when he suddenly decided to die. This is however wild speculation and certainly isn't reason enough to claim that he was once "a powerful mage of the Monastery" (why even call him powerful?).

It's of course also possible he was part of the Scarlet Monastery without being part of the Scarlet Crusade/Onslaught - in other words, the organization that held the monastery before the fanatics took over. Realistically this would be the Order of the Silver Hand, which, again, I've never heard of as having blood elven members... and a mage to boot?

Now let's examine the second part of the claim, that he would be a member of the Scourge. It is not beyond reasonable doubt that every undead on Azeroth serves the Lich King or has once done so. The Scourge serve him now, the Forsaken have broken free. Still, NPC's such as Blind Mary are undead but not necessarily raised by Ner'zhul's (or his lackeys') hand. In the same zone we have Abercrombie who creates Stitches. Mor'Ladim rises without anyone's help.

And now to top it off, Morbent Fel who is described by Sven Yorgen as "a necromancer, and an ally to the dark riders" in this quest. I know of no connection between the dark riders and Ner'zhul. It may be a reasonable guess that Morbent Fel raised the majority of the undead in Duskwood.

While Ner'zhul has been to Draenor he can't be responsible for all the Time-Lost Arakkoa (disregard the drake) - another type of undead. Why? When he was on Draenor, he was an orc. When he fled - and the planet exploded, creating Outland - he became the Lich King, and not until then did he gain necromantic powers.

I play Alliance so perhaps some Horde quest has some information to indicate, confirm or deny whether or not the undead found in the SM graveyard serve the Scourge or once did so. But there are, as shown above, many examples of undead that aren't related to the Scourge.

Asked a GM if this guy once was in the scarlet crusade and he answered:

Yes Blasksalle he was once a blood elf mage prior to his undeath.

then he said:

Yes he was born in the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down when he fell out of his cot.

Blood elves didn't exist before the Silver Hand was disbanded by Arthas, they came into being after the fall of Silvermoon. It did however have high elf members including Mehlar Dawnblade who is now a blood elf in the Bulwark in Tirisfal Glades.

Though it seems unlikely that a mage of any race would part of a paladin order. Though if GY was always a tomb, who knows how long he was in there as a corpse before returning to unlife.

To me, this person was most likely a blood elf mage- slaughtered in Silvermoon and brought by the Lich King to try to get to the "bastions of knowledge" that were in the monastery. ( Or destroy it )

Not to say every undead in there WAS in service of the Lich King, but this waypoint makes perfect sense.

I really know little about lore so please forgive me if this sounds stupid=)

1. He might of been a High elf mage from the Scarlet crusade or Knights of the silver hand that got buried here and got raised by necromatic powers (i.e. Onslaught Death Knight) and got the title "Bloodmage" (high elfs are not naturally Bloodmages) from leaching blood from people at night

2. Not all Bloodmages are blood elfs(i think=) but they usually are, this might of been a human.

Tell me if this might be wrong and i'll delete it=)

I am very disapointed, I wanted so bad to get the achievement for the scarlet monastary in dungeons...but I didnt realize that that they lowered the level for the graveyard (Bloodmage Thalnos) I have all the rest...does anyone know how I can get this achievement? Or is it not possible anymore? Thanks

Just an interesting little thing:

During the Hallow's End event I logged out inside the instance and when I logged back in I was in the old Scarlet Monestary Graveyard in 5.0.5..I was able to Kill this guy, listed as no longer in game, and able to look the items, no longer available to players...

weird.

Fun story.

During Hallow's End, when you fight the Headless Horseman, it still puts you in the OLD version of the instance- but it's empty. No mobs other than the horseman.

HOWEVER- If you log out while you're still in there, all of the mobs will have spawned when you log back in. Including this guy.

I don't know if this information is actually USEFUL to anyone- he doesn't drop anything especially interesting.

He's not a Blood Elf. There are two big reaosns why the chances that he could be are slim to nil.

REASON ONE: The timeline, hosey as it now is because Blizzard cannot keep it straight, makes that impossible. Any Elves within the Crusade's ranks when it still admitted non-human races would have been QUEL'DOREI, as in HIGH ELVES kthx. And High Elves as a rule did not use fire magic! They did not HAVE Blood Mages! High Elves considered fire magics too close to fel for comfort . Also, when the Crusade was getting really well established as cray-cray the Blood Elves were either (a) in Outland having a hootenanny with Kael or (b) fixing their smashed city and kicking zombies off the porch. The ones in Azshara and other places like that were oddballs. And remember, they either hated everyone or were busy with things that didn't involve crazy screaming humans.

By the time the Blood Elves were a Thing the Crusade was ejecting non-humans.

This brings me to...

REASON TWO: The Scarlets are crazy racist d0uches; after a certain point they refused to allow non-human members. Thus they CERTAINLY would not bury a non-human on their ~holy ground~! I'd wager that whatever non-human remains were in the graveyard were exhumed and reburied off the monastery grounds. :/

Balnazzar made goddamn sure to cultivate their bigotry because humans for all our tenacity are not the brightest bulbs on the tree. Elves have been slapping the Legion with herrings for a WHILE now and would have sniffed him out. It was in his best interests to keep the elves teh heck away.

Chances are, Thalnos is human and he just thought 'bloodmage' sounded cool.

I think he was a high elf blood mage. 'Blood Mage' doesn't indicate a 'blood elf mage', it indicates that the mage chose to focus on fire and summoning spells (like summoning a phoenix or an elemental) and those mages were high elves back in days. I don't know any human blood mages, the most known example is Kael'thas Sunstrider.
