Most of the time I tend to pick a ranged archer type.

Always a thief / rogue. I've been hooked on playing that class since Thief: The Dark Project.
In MMOs, I enjoy added complexity, so I'm always the healer and crowd control character. In single player RPGs such as Skyrim, I usually play a Warrior type character to keep things simple and basic.
I am always melee cos I like to be in the action :)
I generally prefer to play either a caster, or a rogue. Two opposite ends of the spectrum, it seems like, but really, not all that different! Both require forethought before launching an attack (or a meatsheild for company, in multiplayer games!) due to their squishy nature. However, their high damage output and the fun of blowing up stuff really makes a game for me :D
I usually play as a mage or some other caster type class.
I usually play a rogue in RPGs as the stealth aspect of it seems so awesome, especially when you get that sneak attack off. However in WoW I seem to play my priest heals the most often.
================== I used to play any kind of stealth class, to be invisible. Afterwards I shifted towards being a distance fighter ========================================like hunters and balance druids. Went to heals for quite a bit, but then in the end. I went off to being any =============================================tanking class that can self heal and hold his ground against the masses of other creatures. Its enjoyable================================================ now and easy to say any class that have elements of being "Righteous" or good, and the ============================ =====================================ability to tank, I will love and play them as long as possible.=================================================================================== In short, I <3 tanking, and I'm sticking with it,===============================================
I frequently play rogues, because I love to sneak around and get the drop on things... I also like to play paladins when I don't have to RP the whole lawful good thing too much -- I love their frontline melee capability, and even though warriors/fighters might be more powerful, the paladins' holy powers are a great complement to their physical strength.
I love playing a healer, healing people of their wounds, and prevent people of dieing, or resurrecting after it!That's why I love my shaman, and use the elements to help me in this. Also, I love playing casters, while using elements from all over the world to do just that little thing to help me kill that monster!
I love playing assassin based melee chars, popping out of the shadows doing massive burst damage and then dissapearing again. :D I play a rogue in WoW obviously. I also enjoy playing warrior type characters, but defiantly not casters, casters are cowards!
WoW was my first 'real' RPG, with Paladin as my first real main. It's inspired me to be a Paladin, or try to be, in every other one I've played since. I'm not big on the religious aspects, but I freaking love the thought of a holy warrior powered by some flying spaghetti monster using that power to smite his foes.
Interestingly enough, while my main in World of Warcraft is a squishy mage, I usually find myself playing a heavily-armored warrior in RPGs, charging in and crushing anything that dares look at me wrong. All that armor doesn't stop me from running, screaming like a girl, away from higher level enemies after just starting a new character. I'm looking at you and your damn saber cats and bears, Skyrim.
