I've been having a bit of difficulty keeping up with all these new mechanics and terms, but is renown the new form of "artifact power" or something?
Hah, remember when Ion said that your covenant shouldn't have any effect on your ability to get into pugs? How can he believe that if your covenant will directly impact player power from one dungeon to another?
It sounds like they have a really good handle on tuning things that will give weaker covenants better opportunities if they’re too weak for progression type stuff. That’s good that they have it on their radar! Definitely appealing for all the folks who have been worried that they’d have to choose a covenant solely on the abilities they offer, let’s hope that remains the case.
I could care less about soul binds and conduits and all that. I want Class skins! I want the temporary/zone only abomination mounts to be permanent!I want armor Dyes!I want Armor restrictions removed for transmog as they are pointless with how heritage armor work and with how many npcs are obviously wearing multiple armor classes at once. Transmog armor restrictions should die in the shadowlands, let us mog how we want.
i like these. really like them but they shouldn't be as impactful as rogues in tol-dagor, but not abilities tho .please make ABILITIES interchangable.btw catch up will not be enough for being alt friendly. because you want to have alts from day 1. there is nothing to catch up but if you wanna do the same grind for multiple chars is exhausting.
This sounds sort of like the various Profession intractables in Court of Stars. It was never a reason to bring someone with profession over another. It was just a different way to do the dungeon based upon what you had in your party.
Will people learn not to farm AP/renown whatever, now that they've been through the massive catch-up mechanics of Legion, BfA, and now promised in SL? I have alts that are blowing through months of AP on live right now, and I just find it so hilarious. I know it's the end of the expansion, but still. Am I the only one who thinks it's kinda pointless to have these systems if there's such strong catch-ups involved? Either have them or don't. More importantly, I think SL will be the last of their borrowed power systems ideas for a long while. These convoluted systems are going to end up in a giant train wreck. I think they already know it but they are too committed to it in the core design of SL, just like they were too commited to Azerite during the BfA beta. They'll end up undoing the covenant ability/conduit requirements, creating a band-aid on top of them later, etc. Remember when we just leveled, then did the content we found fun, got gear/points for it, and went on with life? It's fine to expand on ideas, but not these borrowed/remaking-the-game systems every two years that just end up getting dumped in the trash can. Again, what's the point?
This gets worse and worse.
I don't think creating systems with strengths and weaknesses in a game that is all about min/maxing is good idea... It will cause nothing but frustration...And Blizzard historically was never good at tuning, so no reason to hope they do it right this time around...
The dungeon thing sounds neat. It will probably play out like the profession/class buffs in Court of Stars or the archaeology buffs in Cata dungeons.
The title of this article made me think of something that might quell people angry about covenants. Maybe OUTSIDE of group content, your Covenant ability is the one you chose. But INSIDE of group content, you can just choose between the 4. Maybe there's even an NPC at the start of the instance or something so if everyone keeps wiping, you can change them on the fly. Just an idea, not sure if this is workable at all.
