Imagine if they'd seeded this 12 years ago when it allegedly happened instead of after everything is over. What point is there to it now?
I know they're trying to write new stuff but can they NOT just trample the old stuff.Like sargeras and the titans and everything up to this point is kinda thrown in the trash with this 3d printer land.Makes me sad.
Absolute drivel. Even more retcons and more flawed logic, why would anyone pay money for this.
Anyone else notice that the Jailer talks far more in this book than anything he’s said in the actual game?
Once again, the fact that we need a book to explain all of this instead of being in game is abismal, and is even more terrible that some people defend by stating the same old thing like, "wow always did this" or " the story never was a big deal". Seriously, there is no excuse whatsever, this had to be in game, period. Is also terrible how a lot seem to be defending Danuser. Sorry to burst your bubbles guys, but Afrasabi doesnt have all the blame here, Danuser did an awfull job in tring to fix it. But please tell me how this apply to all his PR lies? How this solves 20 years of development since WC3, how this is closing a book on the chapter of warcraft? With someone that was this incompenent, I cannot trust how he is going to handle 10.0 now that he will free of "Afrasiabi"'s influence.
This is all super interesting, but still leaves me wondering when Blizzard actually had the idea of the Maw and Zovaal, whether it has been there for a long time or basically retconned as many people believe. This references stories published as old as 2011 (Edge of Night) and 2014 (War Crimes) though neither of which seem to mention Zovaal/Jailer/Maw directly. The latest novel could just as easily have been written to fit known events into this new context.
To all people saying the book's events should've been in game, WoW is an MMO, we players have to be involved in it in some fashion or another. So what part do we players have in Sylvanas' book? Just stay a while and listen to Syl's sob stories?Like with the Windrunner Sisters story, if it were ingame, what are we to do? Just awkwardly watch them reunite? And the War Crimes book, what are we to do there? Watch the trial unfold? Sit there and do nothing? It be boring content. And people hate boring content.
Many of these facts should of been told in game, because if you dont get the novel your utterly clueless to alot of this and I utterly, hate the whole 5 prophies of the jailer plot point I think that is beyond stupidSo what would of happened if Sarageas won? And not stab the world thats 2 made false. What if Voljin didnt get stabbed, thats another one, What if the burning legion never returned what if Bolvar, won his 1 v1 This plot point is so strupid and Realises so much on Chance.Im sorry but if your "Big major mastermind big Villian" Realises on Random chances for his grand sceheme it doesnt make him a good villian it makes him a joke
It's just so frustrating because while I don't think this redeems the glaring holes in Shadowlands' plot, it at least makes it passable. Even a 2 minute cinematic of the major beats in a Death-of-Jailor-like flashback of this in-game would have made the story so much more compelling. Even better than a short cinematic, I was so hoping for a 9.2 storyline where Sylvanas explained some of these things, not to give the player sympathy, but just make sense of her abrupt 180 and find some semblance of narrative. I think it would have easily fit in as a parallel to the questline where you enter Uther's memories/past and relive major moments that shaped his trauma. A missed opportunity, perhaps.
How many retcons are we at now? This is making me dizzy.
"Watch for these five signs, and know my words are true. A fiery darkness will return. You must step out of the shadows and lead. A blade will pierce the heart of the world, and you shall hold the blood from that wound and sense its power. And finally... you shall topple a king, and shatter the sky itself."Yeah, I mean, this is all well and good but you're literally writing the foundations and justifications for the story after the story is over. This isn't good storytelling, Blizzard. In fact it is extremely frustrating and does not make me more invested in the game at all, it is a huge, huge negative. The last book I bought was Before the Storm to understand where we were going in BFA. I refuse to buy any more until we stop getting lore justified and foundations written after the fact. Put it in the game. FFXIV tells their story in game competently and it is well done. If Square-Enix can do it, you can too. It doesn't have to be cutscene after cutscene like FFXIV, but you can at least put the important plot points in the actual game so we can begin to make sense of what's happening, not this vague nonsense that even after the ending cinematic, we STILL don't know what's really going on.
The only way the Jailer could have predicted those 5 things and have seen the future is if he was the Primus, who was established to have that power.
What the hell? “We’ve strung you along on this absolute dumpster fire of an expansion, lost millions of players to dozens of different reasons, and now, to find out what the story actually is…BUY OUR BOOK!”The unconscionable and continued cash grabs from this company, combined with their complete “we won’t put a cent of money into this game…here’s more repeatable and old re-washed content to do!” mentality is OBSCENE. Can you imagine Final Fantasy XIV saying “you want to know what happens to Emit-Selk? Buy our book!”This is horse s^^t of the highest order. How about “I am not subbed, have not been since November. You want me to even CONSIDER re-subbing? You want my $15 a month back? GIVE ME THE BOOK or put the damn story line INTO THE GAME like it SHOULD BE.My God, why is ANYONE putting up with this. Why does Bliz even have a single subscriber? Who wants to be treated like some mega-corp’s B**CH?
I'm just glad to see the end of one of the most naive, puerile, and narcissistic storylines I've seen in 50 years of consuming fiction. "Waaaah, the universe doesn't work the way I think it should." Yeah, welcome to the club, here's your name tag. Far as I'm concerned, Sylvie pitched a fit, yeeted herself to hell, and life can get back to whatever passes for normal. And I don't need any overpriced fiction to get my mental space there, nor to try to induce any sympathy for the devil.
Yeah, this is definitely not bad, Christie Golden did a good job with the source material she was given. In-game Sylvanas writing over the years was so full of contradictions, so even if something was retconned here, it's not even a loss, since the new story is more consistent and makes more sense. The Jailer is still a 5D-chess master ex machina, but the book isn't about him, and hopefully we won't even see him again.
