Just want to say to everyone, take note as to what Blizzard has been doing this entire time throughout the artifact weapon storylines. I do have a warlock and mage (not up to level yet), but my main has been a priest since Cataclysm. I'm very familiar with Xal'Atath's whispers and lore. Pay a lot of attention to how the Old Gods, and other void entities corrupt and whisper to those in the World of Warcraft. Then, look at us shadow priests that wield Xal'Atath. The weapon is actually corrupting us, as players, and characters in the game. We're being whispered to constantly, and we're learning more about the void, where Xal'Atath came from, and we're being pushed into wanting to learn more, and do more malicious things in the name of the void. Perhaps our characters can ignore the whispers completely and harness the power she offers, but what if much of what's transpiring, is our doing, and in turn, feeding her hunger and transferring it to N'Zoth? She does have an appearance called "Claw of N'Zoth". I'm not entirely sure when and what Aluneth and Skull of the Man'Ari go on about, but Xal'Atath? Something is getting very fishy, and has been since the beginning. And while we want to constantly learn more about what's going on, it's only powering her and her masters. That knowledge we seek about her cryptic whispers is what's making us players mad, which is just what she wants.
I am with Xal'atath - where do I sign up to become an evil overlord?
The Varimathras quote is likely also a reference to his old on-click greeting, "I'm always on the winning side".
whispers: Oh no, not again.
You are forgetting about the Maw of the Damned. It is sentient - it's not a rational thinking being, but it is - AND it was MADE to eat demonic power. It's been made to absorb KJ's power, I'd look upon people wanting to use it to suck the power off Sargeras' sword with alarm, because it would most probably NOT be destroyed, but become even more empowered.
This post was from a user who has deleted their account.
Strictly speaking Maw of the Damned is also sentient, being a former Eredar blacksmith built into his own creation, although he doesn't do much speaking probably due to him being in a constant state of agony. Ulthalesh, the Deadwind Harvester also contains living souls, notably that of the dreadlord from which the scythe takes it name. Interestingly Ulthalesh was said to be a leader of a massive group of demons before the founding of the burning legion. It would be interesting to see if there's any development on that now that said legion is dissolved. Assuming of course Ulthalesh doesn't die with our artifacts come BfA.
I'm gonna miss my baeblade...
I had always hoped Xal'atath would ultimately find a way to absorb the power out of all the other artifacts and form herself a new Old God body to lead into the next expansion.
I think people are discounting Aluneth too easily. Aluneth loves arcane power. A being of it. Imagine the chance to soak up the Arcane-lifeblood of a Titan? The last and most powerful? Could spell trouble indeed. Also keep in mind the feat it was that Aluneth was bound and how Aluneth freaked out over the Echo of Agewynn saying they wouldn't bind them again in The Tomb of Sargeras. I imagine Aluneth would love a chance to absorb enough power to break free of it's prison.
"As we now know, we will ultimately use our Artifact weapons to hold the corruption from Sargeras' sword in the Wound of the World. Which is ok for 33 of the 36 artifact weapons, however Aluneth, Skull of the Man'ari, and Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire have sentience and could be dangerous to be entrusted with such power, specially the latter two. Maybe those three Artifacts will have different endings to their tales?"What about Hati (Titanstrike)? Don't tell me Hati isn't sentient. There are four total sentient artifacts.
I'm glad to see so many of us very wary of how our artifacts will be retired. Most of them seem to be hungry for power, corrupted slightly already or sentient. Thus... It seems a bad idea to suck up MORE corruption to 'disable' them.Honestly, Blizz took the concept of these weapons from a lot of other games that have you keep your weapon forever. That's kinda the point of these 'incredibly powerful legendary weapons' in most games. I think we could've easily done BfA with them, just stat squishing and starting from a new baseline of power/abilities. But I guess I've just grown very attached to them and like this system... Will suck wielding weapons that don't feel connected to me anymore heh...
I think Thal'kiel is much better voice and script- wise, but I might just be biased.
I will miss Matt Mercer judging me every time I made Mana Buns.
I believe the line said during Argus is more us destroying the Legion and thus the one thing that the Void truly saw as standing in their way, and doesn't see us as any sort of threat (even though we've taken down two Old Gods and the remains of a third).Cause a titan and an army of immortal demons does seem like a bigger threat to their plans to corrupt the planet/sleeping titan they've been after since the beginning than a handful of mortals that lets be honest history has shown through the many other mortals of the Twilights Hammer can be easily corrupted. But the Void is nothing if not over confident.
Note: The Blood DK weapon is actually somewhat sentient too. Killing KJ prompts a piece of RP.
