Cool read, thank you for writing this up! Nice to hear a little about how old blizz approached the design and changes over time.
Nice walk down memory lane.
Wow started for me when wotlk came, as i love classes like DKs, once wotlk ended, cata ruined the class and made is less fun, so i played as a casual until legion then quit for private servers.
Good
Great article Mag, Always good to read your wise thoughts. <3
Great post - lots of fun memories and information!
As soon cata came DK was not fun anymore cant remember did blizzard removed aura effect or was it turn passive skill?
I hated the changes to Death Knight's after Wrath, they got less fun, more restrictive, lost abilities and the greatest insult was not getting Frostmourne in Legion.
The best version of frost was cata-WoD, especially WoD. That was the peek of 2 hand frost in terms of it's rotation.
Been playing since the start and can definitely say that Wrath DK's are so much better than retail DK's. It's been so long and so many changes to the class that I completely forgot about all the abilities the class had and how fun they were to play (I don't care about being overpowered or not or topping meters).I'm talking straight spells and abilities. I loved the whole theme/fantasy of frost but playing it on retail felt so boring for years now and couldn't figure out why I didn't like it as much as I used to... I wondered if maybe I was just bored of the class in general. Then I got on the Wrath PTR, made a DK and remembered everything. The class, especially frost spec is insanely gutted to barebones whack-a-mole with three attacks while blowing CD's every time you fight something. It's mind numbing. It's really bad.Hopefully the success of WotLK Classic will inspire some changes to the modern game's class, among other things.
