Not a Monk main, but I appreciate the depths you went into for all those BM Monks out there. Even made me think about dusting off my old BM Monk! Really nice write up.
A different (in a good way), nice and fun written guide is not rant. Get out of here!
This guide is already outdated. A short while ago Let go of the past was nerfed.Let go of the past had its duration severely nerfed from 10s to 4s. And the versatility bonus only stacks to 4% now, down from 5%.
This is a brillant article but ... This is exactly why covenant abilities and soulbinds and conduits and legendaries suck. This isn't an "article", it's a freaking university thesis. With variables that can be changed, unannounced, with every passing week and hotfix.Covenant abilities and legendaries alone would have been perfect, soulbinds and conduits are just overkill. It's getting ridiculously complicated to understand your class.

It's bizarre to me that after nerf to Blackout Kick and complete change of the brews, the already underwhelming talent(but most interesting ) Blackout Combo wasn't updated, currently if you use it on celestial brew, it would not consume the buff. Also if it gets an update that it works on enhancing SCK as well as tiger palm, and gets more CDR on Breath of Fire, it would be great, and probably will push Charred Passion further, and generally be interesting to play rather than the boring High Tolerance for the 3rd expansion.
Thank you so much for the detailed explanations! There is a long time before the final soulbind level is unlocked, would you consider other choices, even covenant in that period? As someone new to tanking, soulbinds like Draven's service in stone, and Dreamweaver's Chrysalis looks appealing. If the numbers where different, for example a strong Fae Line, would they be good options?
The guide is comprehensive and the writer knows his stuff, I have no doubt. BUT, the big BUT comes.....there is a reason why Brewmasters are the best tanks out there and have been the kings of tanking since MoP or WoD (didn't played in MoP, so I don't know the state of it back then) and that's because of their defensive capabilities. It has the best defensive capabilities and with Ironskin brew being replaced by Shuffle, it makes it better, IMO.It also became even self-sustainable with the adition of Expel Harm, making Brewmaster less healer dependent. Shadowlands also adds baseline Niuzao and makes Zen Meditation less pathetic so increase in defensive cooldowns department. The biggest issues which plagued Brewmaster was damage and self-reliance. With legendaries we can improve that and while other tanks will have to go for defensive conduits/spellbinds/legos/etc etc we can go for improving our damage. For me Brewmaster looks even better than in BfA, but we will have to wait for Shadowlands to oficially launch.
I almost never comment, but this is an amazing guide, both in scope and in detail. Also, love the style, the quips... Monks rock!
What were the nerfs that they gave Marileth that makes us prefer Emeni over her as Necrolords?
nice guide shaman it went out of date quite so quickly
With Let Go of the Past now nerfed to 3%, does that change the decision-making for Kyrian?Right now I'm very torn between going Kyrian or Necrolord.
I'm struggling to understand the author's obsession with everything that increases a brew monk's DPS. Clearly I'm not a hardcore mythic raid world first player, but is my goal as a tank really to maximize my DPS?
Low dps equals less aggro, specially in AOE situations...it is not fun doing everything you can do just to lose aggro on a mob because your dmg is super low and you are AOE capped.
