The Fire Ele build actually doesn't fall off hard as you are suggesting Emmetcullen. I've run several +15's on the PTR with these builds and they work. The Single target damage is also good. One really cool thing about the next season is the Encrypted Affix, which adds the relics to every boss fight, and, once they are dead, the automa as well. This provides solid cleave targets on every boss fight, which works very well with Venthyr Ele Shaman + Fire Elemental. :)
Keep in mind that these write-ups have a very specific scope in mind also, with what Wowhead wants from the writers. While a venthyr based build does indeed exist, its just good in one extremely nieche scenario where you have 6 flame shocks ramping constantly. Then you meet a boss fight and there's not a chance yer not dead last using it. (I know you addressed the same, but the chap might join in here, and this is better for visibility.)Night Fae ele will stomp the venthyr build in about 90% of scenarios. It's also very worth mentioning that Hawk writes the current Elemental Shaman APL, so safe to say he spends countless hours looking into things. It's very disingenous to assume he hasn't entertained the possibility, but deemed it inferior:p
I'm gonna stick with Necro, I've already changed it from Venthyr in 9.0 so I assume they'd better just buff the Necro leggo
Does the Elemental mastery cause our 4p to extend by 1.5 with the extra cast of lava burst?
My opinion is that ele shaman is currently the worst range dps spec in ptr.To me, ele shaman of 9.0 and 9.2 seems to be in a similar position. If you're playing for performance, think about enh shaman now.Ele shaman's AoE dps in M+ is no longer special. Competitors have become too strong.Only too weak ST dps remain. Fundamentally, Ele shaman has a problem that the conduit is too useless. And the stat to be invested is too divided. Fundamentally, there is no stat that can solve both ST and AoE dps, and if you choose halfway, the spec is too weak.So the better the gear, the less competitive it is compared to other specifications.Ele shaman currently has many weaknesses on the raid incounter, which cannot be overcome. It is recommended to do another spec in 9.2 without additional concuit buffs or modifications.
im putting my venthyr shaman to bed for the rest of the expansion

One of my bigger points here is that I'd like to see evidence... I'm glad the person who wrote up this guide is well respected and claims to have done the research, so show your work. I've run +15 dungeons and higher on the PTR with both Deeply Rooted Elements and Skybreakers. On aoe packs of 9-10+ I'm pulling 20-23k sustained aoe. On packs of 4-6 I'm pulling around 14-15k sustained aoe. There is no big burst window like the Storm Ele build, but there is consistency from pack to pack. Chain Harvest with Skybreakers is an incredibly low cooldown. In one +15 I cast it 60 times in a 32 minute run, meaning it's cd is around 30 seconds. It provides an additional layer of aoe that helps supplement the whole package with no Storm Ele aoe to use.Single target bosses I was getting 8-10k damage. Now, maybe you all think those numbers are garbage, and that's fine, but I'd love for the writers and evaluators of all of these tier sets to actually present their evidence and reasons for why they think a build is bad/unplayable. Simply telling the community that a build is trash without explaining why is a bad look and, imo, undermines the opinion. 9.2 is opening up the doors to soo many possibilities and exciting! It's just sad to see everyone defaulting to whatever build is perceived to be best without any evidence showing that is the case.
First, I was wondering whether Venthyr restoration shaman with Skybreakers as a second legendary would be viable alternative for Kyrian in m+?The 50% extra crit on flame shock will decrease the cooldown of chain harvest significantly, resulting in more riptides and not to mention a lot more damage.Secondly, there is synergy between Jonat legendary and resto tier set bonus (chain heal). will this not make it a viable alternative for Primal Tide Core?
