Nice, I saw this post just loged in and got Great Greytusk !
The only thing I'd probably add. Just because they CAN be soloed, doesn't mean you should. In fact you're kind of a *!@# if you do. Find any of the long respawn ones. Announce it, hell even list yourself in group finder with name and that it's up. Be the good person that gets 39 others a tag and mount too. Also, for poundfist, all data supports a 48 hour minimum on respawn and at least a 48 hour spawn window so 48-96hr after any kill or restart. Phases make it a bit more difficult to track though since a heavily populated zone can spawn additional instances of same zone and EACH INSTANCE can get it's own spawn and spawn timer. The results being some higher population servers often seeing 2-3 spawns in a given spawn window. The rare spawn poundfist most resembles is poseidus, which had an even worse spawn CD of 72 hours and same 48 hour spawn window. The best way to get ANY of these is blizzards group finder tool. You never want to really hunt these alone as the large groups can cover all spots thoroughly and also help keep you company and entertained. most of these to really get them without dumb luck involve long camps, often many hours of time investment, each. Although it's not as bad as it sounds. You can literally get 2-3 in a single night by hopping from group to group in group finder after each kill and getting involved. I got all 7 in less than a week of time. Far easier than getting even ONE of cataclysms or Wraths rare spawn mounts thanks to shared tapping and everyone who participates getting rewarded.
Well said!
There's a huge rumor going around stating that the Garn Nighthowl mount drop rate is going to change to 2% and to obtain it will be along the same lines as the other rare creatures. As far as I can tell, I haven't been able to really find a source or a blue post regarding the above information. Do we have any information about this? I think a better clarification would be great so we can put a stop to the rumors. I have yet to get Garn into my mount collection and if this is the case, then dang, I better get to it!From the past experience with Garn, a lot of people use the Master Loot with the List system. For me it worked out pretty well except for the fact that it got so late that I had to bail because of work. I was 3rd in line to get him, so yeah it was a bit disappointing lol! But anyway, a little clarification on this would be excellent! :D
If you're Horde, you'll be able to use your Call to Arms ability against Nok-Karosh as well - it's a really valuable asset in the fight and makes it far easier than when going for him as a group of Alliance. Not that everyone has a Horde toon at Draenor level, I realise that, but if you do happen to have one then using him/her to farm the mount with is something definitely worth considering.
I really need to find the time to use the Group Finder for these ;)Thanks for the post.
"Silthide is a level 97 rare elite and is easily killed at level 100." This sort of implies it can be easily solo'd, which it isn't given his 2.3m hp. Sure it's possible, but only by a few classes.
Nok can be 4maned, the only class need it are hunter(trap-tame-dismiss adds) and rogue(runner tank), then as many dps doing 5k+ dps
I'll probably refer to this when I get bored enough to farm mounts. Until then I guess I could try to find some while leveling. I found one already so... :P
Great Article. Thank youWant Poundfist so badly :X
I had good luck with a Garn group doing list loot. My advice is to look for groups that have been active for longer. The one I joined was being operated by a guy that had gotten it hours before I got there, he had stuck around to keep it honest. Was 22 in line, and stuck around for the player after me.
Nok-Karosh can be two-manned by using the combat-capable talbuks from the garrison Stables quests. Talbuks allow you to cast while moving, but only have a five minute duration and cannot be re-summoned during combat, so you'll need two players to trade threat back and forth. Having a hunter with Aspect of the Cheetah helps; the speed bonus stacks with the talbuk, and if you get hit, you die anyway. There may be a bug with hunters on talbuks that they cannot dismount until the mount timer runs out.Threat cannot be properly held while fighting on a talbuk, so any interference by a player on foot will result in them getting immediate aggro and dying. If you want proof of this before you go through the effort of getting a talbuk of your own, here's a video of it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Utculj5RMPALucidric and I(Marameko, Sentinels server) do this regularly to help people who got shafted with raid groups get their mount. If you still need yours, drop me a line.
For Nok'Karosh is best to use your Garrison ability (archers and melees) to do some more dmg !
When i was running arround to explore Nagrand i accidently got in fight with Luk'Hok, afther a few minutes we where killing it with 5 people and got gifted the Mottled Meadowstomper . Whas feeling lucky that day :)
I found Gorok while doing my pet daily the other day. Instead of killing him alone and getting the mount, I started a group in the group finder, and invited other 39 people to join and get him. No one tagged him before everyone was there, it was a sight to behold, courtesy in WoW!
I am fine with these rares dropping for everyone that killed them, but I can't deny it takes away some of the magic that the other rares like the Time-Lost Proto Drake or Aeonaxx had. I play WOW for these types of mounts, the first thing I did in WOTLK was to camp the TLPD for 15 days until I got him, I then camped Aeonaxx for 56 days(during this time I saw 3 low levels accidently come by Aeonaxx) during Cataclysm's launch and proceeded to do the same for Poseidus (1 week) and the Grey Camel. In MOP I farmed Alani's mount for 1 straight week and the excitment you felt when you finally got one of these mounts is indiscribable. Sure, there was a lot of tension and you would feel down whenever low level players casually found them, but it made everything more rewarding in the end. Now, I tried making things harder for myself by solo camping these rares and in total it took me 9 days to get them all. But other than Poundfist (which involved some sleepless nights), every other rare was a piece of cake to get and I just didn't feel that instant gratification when I looted them. I wish Blizzard could have made at least one of them harder to get, Aeonaxx style, for more hardcore campers (no personal loot and shared spawn with another mob). The way things are now, I am pretty sure someone jumping from group to group can easily get them all in 2-3 days.
Notice there are no flying mounts on the list. I seriously doubt we see any flying allowed in WoD.
