Overwolf is like that Mitchell and Webb skit where they are Nazis and wondering “are we the baddies” lol. It’s like every 80s overblown Jocks vs. Nerds movie. You can see Ogre with his Overwolf logo shirt and raging… NERDS! NERDS! No. No way this ends badly. And no way does “Überwolfe” ever get installed on my system. XD
Well gosh, as long as they're benevolent enough to possibly throw a few crumbs at the add-on authors, they have absolute moral authority to do whatever they want with our information. The ones who refuse to install Overwolf's software are clearly the immoral and greedy ones. We'd be real scumbags not to install their software, right? /s
PPL seem pretty fired up about this. I dont really understand what is going on even after reading a lot here. I just want something to run my add ons in game
In other words, they just want the monopoly on addon management, so they make all money off free software developed by the commumity. I dont think addon developers will support this kind of behaviour. They shouldnt.
Do they think they get users with this kind of behaivour I will never use their #$%^ty software
Mods on Github would be sweet. The problem then would be to find anything new as there is no way to browse Github by category.Using the Github search with "Warcraft" I just found 6159 repositories.Combing thru that for Addons is no fun and there are a lot of shady repositories up on Github as well.
This a total BS cash grab takeover that has ZERO benefits for the users. I usually hate negative behavior, but I hope the hacker community nukes them to Hell.
they can !@#$ off we are going to find a other way for sure
It's funny how they say that
thanks for convincing me to install WoWup :)
This entire thing has huge 'trying to copyright the word REACT' energy. Anyone remember that drama? Companies thinking they can just take and alter things existing in a community just because they threw money at it without consequence.I would rather manually update all of my addons than install their client, and looking at this page's comments, it seems like I won't be the only one.Legit, I was gonna give it a try before I read this and if it was weird go for a 3rd party tool. Now? Not even gonna bother trying. They say there is no such thing as bad publicity but... yea. there is.
If Wowhead would make a mod manager site and addon creators would agree, it would resolve the problem, wouldn't mind to pay a contribution to them ,something within that site for there hard work they do could be also working.Wowhead is a beloved and trusted website throughout years of flawless reputation.Creators should think about Overwolf bulling people so they might take also all freedom from Creators.Wowhead is the best solution in my opinion. As of overwolf they are not to be trusted and if they want to show us that they are ,bulling is not the way, I rather manually download my addons then get blackmailed and feared into a bad reputation website.
Maybe, just MAYBE , instead of trying to put the blame on third parties / the players, try to improve your own image / software by not selling data ?

I really hope Wowup doesn't go under because of this. Total skitmove from an already shady af Overwolf. Seems they want monopoly on scraping?
I mean no one really likes you Overwolf so g f yourself actually when I think about it.
Maybe it's time to change Curseforge for Wowinterface for example? I hate ad's. Always blocking them everywhere.
So this is the company that overwolf is... They have updated their medium article and have removed ALL comments on it. Rather than stand up and say "hey we know we have a bad rap, let's find a solution the community can trust." they went full nuclear to remove any and all negative press that they are getting. If you needed any more proof that they don't give a damn about the players or the community there it is.They. Are. Not. A. Good. Company.
This is a big opportunity for Wowhead to completely win the addon "market", by making their own addon database and provide an API for 3rd party launchers.
