Positive:- I like the new font style - makes everything look very spread out- Love the shadowing on the header-text in guides - so much more noticeableNegative:- Font could be at least one size smaller- I really don't like that Tab titles are very faded out - they're almost impossible to notice unless you're specifically looking for it- The upvote/downvote arrows look freaking HUGE! I'm not fond of the new colours on them, but I could accept the colouring if the arrows were at least 50% the size they are now. With the previous colouring - despite being roughly the same size - they were not distracting and garish; but now that they are brightly multi-coloured, there's just no excuse for them to still be so ridiculously large. I understand that the site is trying to make things more "noticeable", but there's a difference between sleek and user-friendly vs. gaudy and childish.
The first couple of times I loaded this forum today, I got it in a blank, white, CSS-free standard version with the Arial font and all. This looks a lot more familiar, now that it actually works. It is a lot clearer, it feels cleaner, but also simpler and modern. It isn't what I associate with the world of fantasy RPGs, but it is easier to read with sleepy eyes.
I love it. Thank you, for the site, for the dedication and for the amount of times you have saved my sanity. I salute you all. <3
Its nice! More home like! :)
We're taking a look at the up/downvote buttons, tab styling, and padding now. Thanks again for the constructive feedback!
I agree with Rumbuddy that the splash screen should be 100% functional. I know the management may be trying to move the site more towards the news & content side of things, but consider that many people use Wowhead instead of competing site BECAUSE of Wowhead's focus on functionality.
The whole site looks just terrible now. It's not just the front page. It's everywhere. I hate this mobile movement messing up so many sites I used to love. How does no borders and giant squares seem like a good idea to anyone? It's all to cater to mobile users, and for what?I just want it to be a good, functional database like it always was. It looks like change for the sake of change only.
I like it and I hope those who don't can provide constructive feedback instead of just saying: I don't like it. The best advice I can give you is to have the option to have a classic layout for people who only care about the database.
By items info do you mean quick facts or the related section that has tabs or something else? We're looking at the Related section now.
Should have kept the homepage the way it was (or at least similar) with the search bar at the center of the page. I don't think most people come to wowhead to read a bunch of blog posts, they come here to search for info on quests, items, creatures and dungeons.I think the main use of wowhead should be represented as the main focus on the homepage, and not some secondary functionality thrown in on the upper right corner of the page. Imagine if google.com did the same thing, having a bunch of blog posts and news articles as the main focus of the page, and have the search bar somewhere to the side, thats pretty much how I feel about that change. The layout however is really nice and pleasant to look at. And other than a few kinks I really like it and it shouldnt take long for everyone to get used to.
love it.Congrats
this whole new forum looks seems/feels so wrong.i liked the old style and i suspose i could get used too the new one over time.except for the way icons look, it just rubs me the wrong way. all the extra color they now bring just seem unnecessary
To be frank, one of the great things (I liked) about wowhead's main page was the simplicity. The search bar displayed prominently and everything else elsewhere. Perhaps it has do to with my usage of wowhead, but for me it's always been rather awesome and clean.I understand wanting to give the blog, forums and what-not more limelight, but I'd rather have seen a way to easily jump to a page like what is now the homepage (or perhaps more split out sections). And even with the changes there is too much clutter. In my opinion it's better to have less information density on the homepage, but rather to make it a crossroads of sorts to get to more information easily. Kinda reminds me of the Gametrailers website which is.. well.. not high praise, I'm sorry to say (although I'm sure the rest of the website is much better than that mess). It is very well possible that I'll get used to it, but one would hope that it's actually more enjoyable to use rather than a hurdle to get over to enjoy the very same content. Time will tell what is the better concept, I suppose. It's not as if wowhead has that many competitors anyway. Does Thottbot still exist? Allakhazam? At any rate, not my favourite change. But I hope that most people do enjoy it.
generally good work BUT i agree the people that like the old one more.the "new look" is overkill for news that a database-site not is making for. i liked it as it was - a small fast site with good overview.maybe theres a chance to make it possible to choose the look at the user settings. this way is maybe good for everyone.
I'm sure I will eventually like it, but right now I can't stand the redesign. It's not that it's badly done or anything, I just always have Wowhead open on my second monitor because it's simply and dark. I like it dark, and it's just become a lot brighter with the redesign.
