A guy from the guild manage to do the MT on his main character shadow priest. It took him few days of progression and 28 min in a single pull to do it! I dont think this is ok and should be in this way. Some of the challenges are overtuned, others are bad because back in Legion your character work in a different way and had legendary powers. Simple example is the mail legendary that heals you when you are not moving. Blizzard need to work more on the MT and make it similar to end Legion MT. Its just timewalking event and its time limited, no need to be that hard.
I really don't like the scaling legacy gear stuff. I'd rather have Blizz put up an NPC at the entrance that sells Gear that you HAVE to use and tune the MT to that Gear.I like the Tower and it's Difficulty tho. I managed to do some with just SL unsocketed Gear and am currently getting close to finishing the Guardian Druid one. It seems impossible at first but i'm making some % progress every other try. It feels nice to work for something for a little while to get it done
Why take away current gear buffs? If players have worked up legendaries and domination gear like Blizzard wants then it should be of use and would encourage play of current content and reward those who have stayed relatively current. I also don’t think Guardian Druid is that true to “tank” skills since you play as Boomkin to cheese the aura. Remove the drain life aspect of the challenge in phase 1 to give some more flexibility and Stop the nethers from casting as they move and more players would have a chance.
Blizz completely bungled the mage tower experience. It's just cosmetic and shouldn't be something that average players should have to do for hundreds of tries just to make it in to phase 2 for bears. The nerfs weren't really nerfs either for tanks, making the horrors stop moving while casting? That wasn't the issue, it's the high HP bosses and low damage that bears do that is the issue that comes down to the tightest margins for whether or not someone will beat Kruul.... Once again, all for simple cosmetics. Blizz never fails to show its contempt for the playerbase.
1) All Character Stats based on a Template2) No item/consumable/enchant neededThen, we can start talking buff and nerf....
If they'd brought in a *new* mage tower challenge, using Shadowlands assets, new encounters, then this level of difficulty would have been fine. However, this is recycling old content and while that content was very challenging when it first came out, it became much more accessible by the end of Legion due to being able to out gear it. Either Blizzard aim for the early difficulty and exclude a large proportion of players or they aim for accessibility and make the challenge feel like a joke for the top players. As someone that completed the original mage tower on a main in the first rotation back in Legion, I really wish they'd just made it easy for all as while the challenge for my main was fun back then, I had a lot more fun getting all of the mage tower appearances done for other classes and specs that I hadn't played. That was the content I was looking forward to, not reprogression on my main. I know way more people that spent time levelling up alts at the end of Legion for the mage tower challenge than I know that completed the challenge early on, when it was 'hard'.At the end of the day, Blizzard's messaging on this has been very confusing. On the one hand, they scale it (and apply last minute buffs) to make it a very hard challenge to do on on your main but on the other hand, they lock a brand new unique mount behind a challenge that requires that you have mastery of 7 different specs spread across 3-4 characters minimum. That was a mount that a lot of people voted for back when the player choice mount was chosen so it's clearly a popular and desirable mount. If they had locked the mount behind completing just *one* mage tower challenge, then the difficulty would have been fine. Locking it behind an achievement that requires complete mastery of 7 different specs in the game is just wrong, in my opinion.Maybe Blizzard thinks they're dangling a tasty carrot but while I'll gladly jump through a hoop or two for a shiny reward, I'm not going to subject myself to days of misery bashing my head against the wall, playing a class, role and spec I don't hate just for that reward.
The mage tower is the most interesting and fun content they made in years. It forces you to become better, to push your knowledge and mastery of your class to an extend no other content will ever reach. At first I didn't tought I could do it, I tought obviously it was overtuned but through try and try I improved, I adapted and I pushed to success. It took me around 40-50 tries to beat it and I was proud and happy when I did. So obviously it has to be nerfed for Billy who can't do it after 10 tries.
Someone on reddit dug up Sco's video of when he did his MAge Tower back on release, in Nighthold Gear, and pretty much demonstrated that the bosses have almost double the health and the player deals far less damage in comparison. It took like double the time to do the same encounter in the TW version than the release version.
Yeah this was always going to be a bad rushed project, because the people who made the mage tower have long since left the company.. so they're just shoving it in and its never going to be like the first time around.Loved the first time around, i did all bar the healer challenges only did it on a resto druid.. just ugh.
The problem is devs should've disabled sockets together with borrowed power, that way nobody would've bothered grinding socket gear. There are videos that show socketed gear can save even 30s of the fight. No matter what they do with it or not, a lot of people that are gonna be pissed. Also there should be slight tweaks for certain specs. For example all mage challenges are easy compared to other specs, because mage is a wellmade class without borrowed power in the first place. Arcane is a piece of cake compared to demo thanks to it's insta slow, root, speed and polymorph. And also they should remove for guardian that ads don't move during casting Nether Storm. It only created more problems that others specs don't have to deal with. I think the difficulty is fine, but not when other classes have it much easier than others. Just make some minor nerfs and tweaks for certain specs. Also not everybody who asks for nerfs wants it to be 7.3.5 difficulty.
Definitely think it should be tuned more for the final patch of Legion more than the original release. That's when most people were able to complete their mage tower challenges, and thus that's when most people's fond memories of the mage tower stem from. Not to mention the fact we get far fewer chances per year with the mage tower this time around.
I'm fine with the challenges being... challenging. I've gotten my book mount and 5 out 12 sets. My problem with some of the challenges, in this case Sigryn vs. Assa rogues. Why is there a 6:30 hard enrage on that fight, when back in Legion, there wasn't? Whats the cause for this change? The challenge itself isn't super difficult, but the fact that the game just gives you the finger for being good at surviving doesn't sit right with me.
Usually when it comes to balancing, the community is of one opinion about something. Same with stuff like less grinding. Sure, there always are a few people who either don't mind or think the current state of things is fine, but they're in the minority. But the timewalking mage tower is the first time in a while that there is a considerate amount of people on both side of the argument. Some say it's impossible to complete as it is right now, and yet some others are clearly able to pull it off, even on some seemingly impossible specs like shadow priest. In a way, the mage tower shows what the community can do best: Find ways to beat a seemingly impossible challenge. The amount of old expansion items that are suddenly useful in the challenge, but really really shouldn't, yet they are because of the two stat squishes and one itemlevel squish we had, is staggering. Is it the result of the devs not being thorough with them updating old items, as well as making the linear scaling each expansion should have moot (Legion items should be BiS, not MoP or Chromie time TBC items)? Absolutely. Do some players love doing the research in order to figure out the best possible option (not to mention all the goblins that are making bank with all of this)? They sure do.In a way, I'm glad that they didn't give us the artifact skins as reward after all, otherwise a whole lot more people would be upset about this. But this way, you can forgive the balancing and accept that it's all about the insane challenge.... but seriously Blizzard, give us some template gear already, at least for the next time Legion timewalking is up.
I think the challenges are good (maybe not all of them). They are hard but you can do it, if you really try to progress and if you use all your abilities. I was very angry at the beginning because i died all the time xD but because it was this hard, i was sooo happy when i finshed it. it was very special to achiev this so, i like it. (I did it on my Resto Druid).
Mage tower should just give you a gear template IMO.
If Blizzard wants to just turn a nob on content like this and still have it be "hard" they need to create character and gear templates that everyone is given before entering. What happens if they choose to give us more spells and tools to deal with varying situations in the next expansion? What will happen is the devs will then turn the nob in an attempt to re scale it. If they want to add more interest single player challanges they should make NEW scenarios and challanges or re structure old ones. Don't just fiddle with numbers. Actually improve the content and re build it to fit and reflect the changes made to all classes since Legion.
Of course it's ridiculous in its current state. It's the worst form of elitist content right now. A real embarrassment for the game.I'm working under the assumption that they're letting the .1%ers earn their big $%^&*s right now, and they'll nerf it down to reasonableness in the future... but if that doesn't eventually happen, well I guess it's just one more nail in the coffin of this game.
