Ok, I get it. Late to the game players are so jealous of us who toiled through that long reputation gain in Pandaria to finally obtain our Water Strider. You want to be able to fast forward to your own water walking mounts. Go for it! However, I do not understand why our Water Striders must lose their natural abilities. It is a slap in the face to us! Leave our Water Striders alone. We earned them, and their innate abilities to walk on water. Yes, this is upsetting. Do whatever you want to the other mounts.
I thought water walking being removed and added as an item meant it would be like goblin glider kit. Glad it works like normal water walking and doesn't need to be popped.
Look at that water walking controversy.*laughs in Death Knight*
I don't understand this storm in a glass of water at all.I grinded the Anglers on FIFTEEN toons, because I wanted the water-walker AND the fishing raft before it became a toy usable to all.I grinded on Draenor in WoD to get an alternatively ugly AF red bug mount merely to have alternative to the original ugly AF blue bug mount.I'm fed up of seeing every player everywhere EXCLUSIVELY on a Golem (if they are herbing) or on a Strider (if they are doing anything else). I deeply resented the disappearance of the warlock glyph which allowed me to waterwalk on warlock class mount, in addition to DK's path of frost and Shaman's waterwalking.40 gold per character (specific to ww equipment) is so little it barely registers in a game where a single pull in progression raiding costs me well in excess of 4000 gold due to repairs, cost of flasks, pots, augment runes, food, missing-class-buff consumables, consumable repairbots etc. - even if some of that is shouldered jointly by raid (feasts, scrolls, repairbots, cauldrons - still need to make contribution to guild for those, in gold or in kind, so the cost remains).Removing WW is a great move - it FORCES people to make choice. Once. Sure, if all you want is WW, just get a piece per toon, plug it in and you're back to how it was, except now every mount you got can water-walk, so you're still ahead. Then, forget it happened. The true benefits start for everyone who wants something different, or something more. Where there was no option, now there's choice. To be honest, I'm only surprised that they haven't actually extended this to cover the golem, by giving engineers that can make the golem access to a recipe to craft "golem herb scoop", a mount equipment that lets you herb off any mount. I strongly suspect they left this alone simply because Golem is not only unique, but also a crafted mount which requires 30 daily cooldowns, and due to that commands hefty price on the AH. But I do suspect that such equipment is at least planned. And when we are on irreplaceable items... to the best of my knowledge, the fully upgraded gruntling/squire from the Argent Tournament, which lets you access your bank, mailbox or a vendor - on a 4 hour cooldown, remains the unique ingame way to access your bank remotely other than the Goblin racial (shorter access, bank only and on a half-hour cooldown iirc). And we're talking something added in WotLK, that requires a 30-day grind on every character you want to have that utility on!
do we need to attach equipment to every single mount? ;0
Blizzard, the solution to this outcry is simple. Let the original water walking mounts like all the Striders keep their innate ability, but lose the "convenience" of using mount equipment. People keep their hard earned mounts with the benefits specifically tied to earning them, less people are upset in general, and you can implement your system with relatively little hitch.
How about a completely cosmetic mount equipment. Once I get pathfinder 2, I don't think I'll be walking around anyway. Especially since they've said that we'll be able to fly in najatar. How about effects like firey feet, leaving flaming footprints as horsey runs? Mist/cloud effect like the red cloud surfboard from panda. Catnip toes - critters start to follow you around while mounted.Sloppy feet - while standing still puddles of (flowers/ gold coins/ leaves) spill on the ground. Rocket boots - ground mounts can now fly. goblin technology, so they may fail sometimes.
So our wonderful Water Striders will become Water Sinkers. Guess we could make fishing bait out of them... NOT.

I am livid over the WATER STRIDER losing its inherent ability to, well, water stride. This is a punk move Blizz. I know how this plays out. You remove the ability saying it's no big deal because 'equipment slots'...until you remove equipment slots in 2 years and goodbye water walking for the water strider forever. You aren't fooling anyone Blizz.
The update no one asked for and that no one wants. Blizzard - listening as always.
If we're going to be perfectly honest, the fishing raft is quicker than the water strider anyway. Just gotta hit that space bar a lot. I also wonder if this will affect water strider pets, I play a hunter mostly and never used the strider pet but wondering if this will give me an opportunity to OR will they just remove it too because screw hunters..
