The whole faction pride just feels like an old and useless concept in retail, hopefully all the the toxic war lovers will stop playing once the alliance and horde are no more.
As someone who loves world PVP, I dearly hope the ally/horde dynamic doesn't go away.
The game is called Warcraft after all. You can't get rid of the the most foundational part of this franchise, which is faction conflict.
So where is the "Controversial" part?
I can't imagine the level some people had to stoop to believe her statement was anything about losing faction identity. There is no more room for animosity towards the factions short of competitive contexts. The war between the factions is well over.
I miss faction pride. The Mountain Dew's, Mount competitions, etc. But just the times we live in. No winners, no losers. We're all equal and can't be different.
I wonder how many death threats the Horde players sent the devs over the original line.I mean, if all it took to send a writer death threats on Twitter was her having Alliance characters in her profile, that original line surely would have sent them over the deep end.
If that's what the character thinks, that's exactly what she should say.
It’d be nice if they had explained exactly what was so controversial. I don’t get it.
To the people getting mad because they seem to be phasing out the Alliance and Horde faction war, I got news for you. There are other things you can have wars against besides each other. Let's go over the other wars we have seen, shall we? Old gods, the Burning Legion, an undead army that has the potential to swarm the land like locust, dragons, despots, alternate timelines, Insane death gods. In fact, it's safe to say MOST of WoW's lore has not been Alliance vs. Horde. And when it has been part of the lore, something has come along that is a bigger problem. The fact of the matter is, with things trying to constantly kill, maim, or corrupt the planet our character's live on, there are bigger problems then territorial skirmishes over things that honestly don't need to be a thing anyway.
The faction war is kind of a dated thing. Purists will always want WoW to be what "it used to be" but, ultimately, the game has to evolve or it just gets stale and boring.
Its funny some of these people who want to keep the factions separate. You do realize its just for role play right? most of the players play horde and alliance. And for PvP both factions fight each others since I can remember. World PvP hasnt been a thing since Halaa.
Never, never, never remove the factions. We don't need to be combined.Even if some heroes choose to team up (x-faction runs and x-faction guilds) we will always be two factions. The only way to combine factions would be to keep the factions separate for all expansions until we get the expansion that let's us combine factions to face off against another one. And that other faction would need to be close to or equal to what we would have with combined Horde/Alliance.I do not see that happening. Would be cool after World Soul Saga to unlock the other side of Azeroth and there be another 1-2 big factions on that side to fight against. It's a huge undertaking. Image 24 races in one faction vs 24 races in another faction.I doubt the devs have been creating a whole other faction in the shadows, but you never know. The devs have planned decades worth of content and have contingencies for everything, so I can't say for sure. But it would be awesome. Like the first 12 expansions we are Horde v alliance. Then the factions combine starting with xpac 13 where we get to play as a whole other faction on the other side of azeroth. And then that continues for 11 more expansions. Then 25th xpac is when things become maintenance mode with all zones having dailies and events to keep content fresh forever! That's the dream lol
