Old WoW: Baine Bloodhoof learns of the Maruuk Centaur. He sends emissaries of the Horde to investigate their movements and culture, secretly tasking a Mulgore coalition of Forsaken infiltration experts to discern if these Centaur are related to or possess any knowledge of the Kalimdor Centaur.Meanwhile, the Alliance catches wind of Baine's operation via notes seized from the coat of a dead spy in the Plains. The new and fragile peace between the Horde and the Alliance demands subtlety, but they cannot help but follow this thread. Whatever aims Mulgore has, the balance of power must be maintained. Turalyon asks agents of the Alliance to confer with SI:7 what neutral mercenary spies would be best for this operation, fearing his own involvement may lead to diplomatic strain should their plot be discovered. Baine Bloodhoof finds himself in a best possible scenario. The Maruuk centaur are both unrelated to and unaware of the Kalimdor centaur. He may now have a web to weave for the horse-people. Using the most strategic minds of the horde, and his understanding of honor-bound warrior cultures, Baine crafts a plan to influence the Maruuk to fear the Kalimdor centaur as a corrupted evil, one that would threaten the Maruuk's new pact with the Green Dragonflight. Baine's disdain for the Kalimdor centaur is not unfounded, neither to the Tauren or the Green Dragons who have both seen the malefic influence of Theradras over central Kalimdor, and who have lost many of their kin to the savagery of the horsefolk. They threaten passageways and trade routes. During this time of fragile peace, the Tauren must consolidate their power over the central reaches of Kalimdor so as not to find themselves helpless at the table of Horde power as they were during the 4th War.The "neutral" Alliance intelligence coalition is struck with dread. From what they can observe, the Tauren are engaging in a cold war with their new allies which may lead to a disturbance in central Kalimdor. A disturbance which can certainly increase the possibility of their trade routes in Kalimdor becoming war zones, but also threatens the peace between Night Elves and Tauren. If a Centaur War erupts in the reaches of Feralas, for example, Alliance shipments may be threatened. Worse yet, a people so affected and displaced by war may feel encroached upon and be forced to act. Stormwind's control over Alliance levies may be threatened if the Night Elves march to the thick woods to fight a race war without Alliance sanction. Could the Alliance afford to aid their pained Nigh Elf allies in yet another conflict? It must never occur. Or something.
"Old Hatreds" was also the name of the mission in W3 which involves freeing Baine and killing Centaur.Bovan Windtotem who was also in that mission got added in-game Bovan Windtotem, so this will likely be a nice callback to that.
Proceeds to sit on the ground next to the centaur camp for the upcoming 1,5 years.
For the Shadowlands!
