This explanation of the reasons why Sylvanas did this would make sense if, at the end of Shadowlands, the entire universe will actually reshapes to make it fairer. It could also open the way for us to reset the whole story and take us back in time and go through the World of Warcraft again, only in a different coat, with a different system, story, quests, but with the same characters. Something like WoW 2. Then justifying Sylvanas would make sense for us to understand why she did all this. We will see, after 2 weeks, what next will happen.
It seems this novel is retconning all Sylvanas did to not being evil. Somehow makes me sad, changing her character like that after 20 years of vengeful banshee and liar that made her a great villain.
i knew it! she was innocent in the first place.
If i win its acceptable losses, if i lose he interpreted my order incorrectly. Fuuuuuck offfff. Why are they constantly trying to frame pre-jailor slyvanas as the plucky hero, when shes simply a revenge driven, petty villain.
I never really thought of his comments as a retcon. I'll give him more of a benefit of the doubt than he deserves, but I chalk his statement up to misspeaking . She did not order the attack on the Wrathgate. She ordered a blight attack that would kill Arthas. That was entirely Putress' call to attack when he did. While I don't agree that soldiers should be accepted as collateral, Jaina was prepared to kill innocent civilians as collateral in Orgrimmar without even knowing if she'd kill Garrosh/those responsible for the Theramore bombs. At least with Sylvanas she mentioned that the soldiers who died all prepared to die as long as it meant killing the Lich King. Which is true. As Ranger-General she knew soldiers had to be willing to lay down their lives. What bothers me is the inconsistency. She clearly cared about mitigating losses when it meant pulling back Horde forces from the Broken Shore. Was Gul'dan not big enough of a threat to risk annihilation to take out? Where was this safeguarding mentality when giving that order to Putress? You'd think she'd be more likely to be cold and uncaring AFTER meeting Zovaal.
Really enjoyed reading this, I may get the book now :)Small typo in text - Sylvanas knew that, had Putress indeed been successful in killing Arthas, she would ahve counted the lives lost at the Wrathgate worth it. Sacrifices must be made if Arthas was to be stopped. She allowed herself to believe that those who died this day would have deemed it worthy, too. Every single soldier in both armies were ready to die to stop the Lich King.
