I came across one of these inside a building at Firewing Point in Terokkar Forest and bravely used it "Right clicked it", it comes up with a bar saying "Translocate" as if you're casting a spell. Funnily enough it teleported me to another building inside the same camp. I'm not sure what quest they're for but they are safe to use :)

Hehe, it's a orb which teleports you to another place (often the same building at a higher floor, which you can't reach in any other way).. The orb itself isn't used for any specific quest, but there is a quest that you are to kill a "leader" in the top of that tower.. That's what it's for, mainly.. Also you can find many of these in the game. Eg. the Translocation orb from Silvermoon to Undercity =)

The orb of translocation is at Sunfury Spire (49,14) in Silvermoon City. It will take you to the Undercity.

The other orb of transloction is at the Ruins of Lordaeron in the Undercity (54,11).
It will take you back to Sunfury Spire in Silvermoon City.

Note also that the Alliance cannot use the Orb inside of Undercity/Silvermoon. So if you're countering their raid and they run into that room, you have them cornered.

The orb in Undercity is OUTSIDE - in the east courtyard if you are facing the entrance. The common coordinates of 54,11 give you the location if you are in the undercity, which you shouldn't be. Use Tristfall glades map and go to 59,67 .

If you play mostly alliance like me, but also have a horde character, this is a handy macro to get to Jiliane the dragonhawk vendor:

The location of the Orb of Translocation is:
Undercity, Ruins of Lordaeron, x = 54.856 y = 11.266
It casts the spell Translocate, that moves you to:
Silvermoon City, Inner Sanctum, x = 50.621 Y = 16.449

Contrary to what other comments say, this is NOT the Undercity/Silvermoon orb. This orb in particular is the one located at Hellfire Peninsula, at the horde base, Falcon Watch. It's the top/upper orb, which teleports you to the bottom/ground of Falcon Watch's tower.

Which means both the screenshot and video that was uploaded in this page is not adequate, since they are about Undercity's/Silvermoon's orbs and not Falcon Watch's orbs.
