Tamed Bombyx after finding "heavily chewed silkweed" which is a smaller version of the herb. When mousing over, if it turns into the icon Herbalists have, it is NOT what you are looking for.

These flowers do not give indication of which direction he is going and will also vary between a lone flower or a group in a small area depending on if he is going in a straight line or bouncing back and forth.

I found him at 31 , 43 in Krasarang Wilds, where he paused before carrying on between two trees located at 31 , 42 and 32 , 48. I knew he was there because some of the flowers were disappearing, but others stayed for a while.

He is known to turn without warning, and even worse, stand still for undetermined periods of time. So throwing your flair out randomly is not a bad idea.

He is a hostile mob, but did not attack me, even while taming, but this could be that it was the same day as the patch release, and a glitch. He is a tank pet, but of course you can change this as all pets are able to learn other specs. He is level 90, though he hangs around mobs that are level 86.

Edited to add:

As I said, I never got aggro, he continued walking as if I wasn't there. Make sure you put the Hunter's Mark on him so you can see him. Also, it seems ice trapping does not keep him from roaming out of the flare zone.

Tamed Bombyx today! I thought I had lost him at first, but I stayed in one spot and sure enough he came back around. Love the color!

When I tamed Bombyx it was 10:30 P.M. Akama Server time, he was at the base of a tree in Krasarang Wilds located between Dawnchaser Retreat and Temple of the Red Crane nibbling on some Heavily Chewed Silkweed after I put a flare on him. He did not attack and was easy to tame. He is absolutely adorable :) Good Luck to all!

Just tamed Bombyx at 31, 47 on Stormreaver at 2235 Server Time. he was patting back and forth and wouldnt leave the whole time taming.

I confirm 32,48 is a good spot; I found it and tamed it here.
The day after, I returned to this point and found it again; it was moving between this point and the river for about 10mn (See my screenshots).
He will not attack you, it just ignores you during taming^^
Found it a third time at this point, return trips between 32,48 and 35,50 and between 32,48 and 30,43; lot of heavily chewed silkweed on this path.

He was walking the small path along the Krasarang River (between two trees; crossing the river path to the other tree). I found him by the two trees - but the damned mobs made me lose him ( I did not have a pet out and since I am BM I had to run away since my feign death was on cooldown) however I had remembered seeing a lot of his tracks by the tree on the other side of the river; indicating he spent a lot of time there a few minutes ago; so I made my way to the other side of the river before waiting a few seconds and popping a flare - hunters marked - and tamed him!

The tracks are VERY confusing. A good idea is to keep a mental note of where the tracks are most abundant; so you know where he spends most of his time and will give you a better chance of getting him.

As I was taming him he stayed still; loafing around a bit before beginning to move just as the tame ended.

I tamed him by camping 31,43 and just throwing out chain flares, since chewed silkweed were present I knew he was in the area; the first time I tried to hunter mark him it said "Invalid Target" but that was because he was going back into stealth, but the second time my hunter's mark worked and he stayed unstealthed. One issue is that he does not stop walking when you start taming him, so get very close before you begin the tame so he doesn't go out of range and cause it to cancel out.

Had a strange experience today with Bombyx. Threw down a flare and there he was by the tree. I froze him and started Tame Beast. Cast finished and... he despawned. No pet. Hard to believe that my Freezing Trap was the problem.
Any ideas?

Tamed this guy today on Staghelm. I avoided the mobs by staying in Camo while Flaring, and FDing (and staying down until Camo came off CD) the couple of times I aggroed the stupid lizards. Finally saw one of the little plants appear, Flared, saw Bombyx and Marked, aggroed stupid lizard, Tamed and killed stupid lizard with my new pet! ^.^

I tamed him after I literally gave up. I kept looking for the tracks, but instead kept finding regular silkweed. When I was heading to an inn, I found some tracks, then more, and more! I decided not to give up and follow them!
Tip:
Since by the tracks you can't tell which way he's going, just follow them whatever way you want. If you're going the wrong way, you'll be able to tell because the tracks will start to fade, from the oldest to the newest. That's how I did it. And he does repeat the path a couple of times. If you see no more tracks, he's probably just standing still, like he does a couple of times.

I'm sure this comment is redundant, but I camped out at 32, 48 for about an hour when heavily chewed silkweed finally showed up. I spammed flare all along the silkweed near the area, but apparently he was in a fast-moving mood today and had already started going back to the tree, where he wiggled around a bit, then started southward when I finished taming it.

Be sure you hunter's mark him, because he doesn't aggro you at all even when you start taming, and you will lose the tame if he phases out of your flare. So either hunter's mark him or get AHEAD of him before you start to tame.

After Chibee's size nerf, Bombyx is the best-looking Silkworm in the game. Bombyx is adorable. I absolutely love him!

Tamed Bombyx at about 1:30 server time, Silverhand, around 31.0, 42.0. Followed the path a little south, thinking that's where he was headed, and sure enough he was. Read some previous comment about him walking away as you tame him, but I got lucky, and he caught himself on a tree as I tamed him. He got wedged between some roots, and made the tame easier! No trap needed.

Just tamed this nice worm 12:20AM EST Lothar-US. I'm not sure of the exact location, but it was in line with the path others have marked here. Very easy tame, didn't aggro on me after I flared and started taming. It was "tagged" gray to me, so I was worried it might not tame, but in the end my worry was for naught - after the tame it became my pet without any issues.

The only shame about taming him is that he shrinks by a huge amount. The pictures make him look big after being tamed and he isn't.

After reading the posts here and seeing first hand for myself, I decided not to even try to follow the path of heavily-chewed silkweed. I saw the chewed silkweed scattered all over his pat area but there seemed to be a distinct path that he traveled more than others because there was an abundance of HCSW concentrated in front of a tree and in the river. So I laid down my flare and spammed it until he wandered into it. Thankfully he doesn't go clear across the map like Patrannache or Portent so I didn't have to wait long.

I tamed him today but I had a few problems, for one thing I never saw any of the herbs he was supposed to be chewing on, I looked all throughout the area and never saw a single one. I did see a few of the herbs for herbalist to farm.
Eventually I just waited for him by his tree and kept throwing out a flare every once in awhile and he popped up, but even then with him right in front of me there were no munched on herbs.
My next problem was taming him, he doesn't attack or anything but you need to wait until he stops or get ahead of him, because while he does kind of mosey along, he's still fast enough to get away from you before your taming channel is complete. I tried to put an ice trap down, but I either missed or he was immune, I assume he was immune because he walked right over it.

Anyway, he's real cute and cuddle so I named him George, but he's kind of squishy (he is a grub after all)

For what it's worth, Bombyx is the generic name of the true silkmoths...Bombyx mori is the specific name of the domesticated silkmoth.

Tamed, Twisting Nether EU 02:25 server time.

When it walks around, you can easily see lots of chewed herbs are spawning. I just shooted flares randomly across theese herbs and it got spotted.

-You can't shoot it for auto marking.
When you ice-trap it, watch out for your flame. If it runs out, it goes stealth. Flare it again at same location to reveal your ice-trapped pet again. If you fail to trap, it vanishes or runs like hell because it showed up again while moving behind me in 1 minute. It is impossible to patrol whole spawn point in that time. Just spam flare between herbs and keep your finger on your ice trap.

Great camping place is at 31 , 45. Just keep Flare and Freezing Trap on the ground and he will appear soon since he moves pretty fast and has a small patrol area. Good luck!

Hi! Baileybaby here, just caught bombyx at 31.61.

Fairly easy just set flares right in the middle arena of that tiny section mostly by the lanterns and he passed twice in about 15min.

The half eaten silk weed is a big key! The larger the group of half eaten plants, the better your chance!

I found him at 31, 42 at 6 PM server time on the Blackrock server and was able to tame him with no problem. Though the process of finding him can be quite the pain in the butt but at least you get a cute little worm out of it...

I found him today, but he was tagged as grey and wouldn't let me tame him :( The tame would just fail without any error message whatsoever. Pretty bummed about it. Will have to try again another time

It's worth noting that no one yet has mentioned (for this one of the rare hunter pets specifically, at least, it's been mentioned on some of the others, such as Patrannache's page) that Bombyx WILL NOT aggro you even if you attack him - this cannot be used as a method to get him to stop patrolling so you can more easily tame him, without him moving out of range of your flare before the tame pet spell finishes channeling.

After reading all the comments on this page and heading out to try and find and tame this guy for myself, I was thinking "well it seems the obviously overlooked way to easily tame him is to simply shoot at him and get him to stop and attack you", even though I had read that casting tame or ice trapping him to slow him down doesn't aggro him, I thought he just didn't aggro like most creatures would when doing these things to him. But it doesn't matter what you do, he won't aggro you.

Hope that's helpful info before heading out to find and tame him. Would have definitely been helpful to me because it was quite a surprise when I finally found him and fired at him and he disappeared out of my flare range without stopping.

Something that wasn't really clear, is that he is stealthed, regardless of how close you are to him. Spent about 3 hours around flying around in circles wondering what was going on. Find his trail, and start spamming flares. Took about 20 minutes once I knew what I was doing.

Word of warning: don't just start taming him cause he's in your flare, HUNTER'S MARK him, or you stop taming when he walks out of the flare...still haven't found him again :(

Edit: Found him :D Find the Heavily-Chewed Silkweed and wander around where it's heaviest (it does despawn at some places and respawn at others), I know most have said that it doesn't work like footprints, but it worked for me to just camp an area where they were densest and flare totally at random. Hunter's Mark and Tame Beast ftw :) Good luck!

I have had the worst luck trying to find this ONE pet, I've been sitting here for days and haven't seen any heavily chewed silkweed... could it be that turning down Ground Clutter is making them go away too? I haven't seen any other hunters around so unless they're nabbing him as SOON as I log off, each time... I must be missing something

Took me forever before I figured out how to actually do this correctly. Pretty dumb of me but I forget to change my speck to BM, so I lost him the first time I found him due to that. Just find some heavy chewed weeds and drop your flare constantly and he will appear. Trap with ice and tame :) Check my photo for cords.

I have been sitting on Bombyx's spawn area for about 6 hours now without seeing hide or hair of my purple squishy. Not only have I been unable to locate him with random flares here and there around his patrol area, I have not seen a single track (heavily-chewed silkweed) since I began wandering his small spawn area 6 hours ago.

Has his spawn timer changed? Is he affected by phasing? Is there some graphical setting that prevents people from viewing tracks? Am I glitched?

Just tamed him at 32,48.

I flew around quite a large area and saw nothing for a while, happened to fly back and noticed my first Heavily-Chewed Silkweed. Like others have said, the silkweed is a miniature version of normal Silkweed, and will display a tooltip upon mouseover.

After about 5 minutes of dropping flares, the Heavily-Chewed Silkweed I had been staring at despawned, but I noticed another nearby. More were spawning fairly rapidly which allowed me to track him down with ease.

Upon discovering him, I was a split second too slow to mark him, and he disappeared. No fear though, a few more flares brought him back out and I was able to properly mark him.

He was tagged, so I poked him and used Feign Death. Though that did not seem to reset the tag visually, it did allow me to tame him successfully.

Found him today (first time looking for him, got lucky!) at 32:47 on Moonrunner server, 10:42am server time. Saw some heavily chewed silkweed, dropped a flare, and boom... he was literally on top of me. Marked him, dismissed my pet, and tamed. No aggro at all, easiest pet to tame yet.

He doesn't do nothing but ignore you while taming ...kinda like the ex haha

I was able to find the cutie at 30, 43.

Like the others have all said, keep using your flare and when you do spot him, apply Hunter's Mark ASAP!
I made the mistake and forgot to put it on so my flare ran out and I lost him for a minute or so.

Such a pretty color, was a fun little tame too!

Found him and got him at 32,45.

For me it was like he was following the heavily-cheved Silkweed path. I actually lost him twice due to my low IQ, but i kept throwing flares along the path and got him again.

Took 30 mins totally.

tamed him just now after a short wait. it's better to wait for him at a pinch point between his paths, don't bother trying to follow the flowers. find a spot where a bunch of them are grouped up and drop an occasional flare. probably won't get as lucky as i did, but it's less frustrating and will likely take less time this way.

Tamed Bombyx at 32,47 on 4/20 @ 10:40pm on The Venture Co. He was crossing from the water toward the tree (traveling South). I used my flare to spot him and then cast hunter's mark before running right up to him and casting tame beast.

well that was frustrating! lol i saw the "heavily-chewed silkweed" pop up and cluster then fade away twice, but no sign of Bombyx in my flares. finally I saw a trail of them leading into the lake. Caught him hanging out right at the mouth of the stream just past where it gets too deep to stand, about where the Fallstriders are. So, if you can't find him on the path, check there. (edit: about 33, 39)

Patch 6.0 removed hunters mark. How do I tame bombyx now? Tried traps,glyphs and haste increases with no luck. 20 second flare with 20 second cd leaves me frustrated and lacking a certain purple worm pet.

With the removal of Hunter's Mark, this was a new challenge to tame. What I did however, was setup a flare and my Freezing Trap. Freezing trap was on the ground ready for him to step into. Even if you do not have your flare up, he will still trigger the trap. Watch for it to trigger then flare where the trap was. I did this and was able to tame him while he stayed in one spot. Hope this helps!

He hangs out around 32,48 for sure. I think he's actually triggered by someone looking for him. go to this spot and you'll find the "heavily-chewed silkweed" - it's very small and doesn't "glow" like a regular herb - mouse over it and star throwing up flares - within a few minutes you should start to see a trail of "heavily-chewed silkweed" - follow that trail while you keep throwing up flares and eventually he will come.

It really did appear to me as though I was triggering him with this action.

When he does finally appear he will go again if the flare runs out so just try and target him and start the tame asap. It took me about 10 mins and 3 attempts before I got him to stick around long enough to tame. Once you get him on tame channeling he shouldn't go away.

He's technically a worm so he has the same special AoE ability as other worm "burrow" and a buff "strength of the earth" which is quite nice for raids as it gives 5% to Strength, Intelect and Agility and a further 3% to Versatility.

So I was running around trying to find him for about 10 minutes, and I kept going by a spot near the river where I couldn't figure out where he went because there was no more plants... So I went and camped at 32, 48. Nothing happened so I flew around again. I went back to the river to discover the plant that was by the river a few minutes ago was still there and no other plants. So for the heck of it I threw down a flare. Bombyx was just chillin there. I sighed and tamed him realizing how stupid I am lol. 36, 51.

In my case he didnt stop but was moving with a decent speed between two points at 32.0 / 47.0 for more than 10 min.

Once he reached one of two end points i marked on the picture he would just turn for 180 degree and start walking back. It was driving me crazy until i realize what is he doing. To be even "funnier" there was only few "heavily chewed silkweed" between two points (and many more all over the place) but nothing what would suggest he spent 10 min (or more) walking over same (short) path.

This is unfairly difficult without Hunter's Mark.

It took me about an hour, but I finally got lucky enough to put a Flare on him while he stayed still long enough to be tamed. The dozen other times, he just wandered out of my flare before the Tame could finish.

He is immune to CC. He cannot be slowed or stopped, and can only be brought out of Stealth by the Flare.

Used to be, you'd spot him, put on Hunter's Mark and then tame. The challenge was in the hunt. Now, once you find him, it's down to luck: having the little worm happen to stay still long enough to be caught.

Saw this little guy in the data-base and was surprised that I hadn't seen him sooner! He is adorable! Although I was lucky enough to have the tracks up and waiting for me as soon as I arrived in Karasang, I wasn't able to immediately tell which tracks were fresh. I ended up standing around 31.8, 46.0 where he popped up in my flare. I was so excited and called my hubby over to let him get a look at the beauty I was about to tame. In my excitement however, he disappeared again and I wasn't able to track him down for over an HOUR. I tried everything from marking clusters with raid banners to dropping random flares all over the tracks. I was unfortunate in the fact that his patrol was very drawn out and not very many clusters had formed. I was just about to give up when I dropped a freezing trap on the ground and desperately flared for the last time. By some sheer luck he appeared right on top of my trap and froze, so I can confirm that he does trigger the trap. My hubby had to snap me out of my small moment of victory dancing and I got the tame! Be prepared for a good amount of frustration with this little bugger. But he is definitely the cutest edition to my stables.

I was playing around with my pets deciding what to capture next. My friend whispers me, "Go find Bombyx. He's at 32.6, 48.46. Stay there and cast flare. You'll find him adorable!" So of course, I went there. I stood there waiting, I was looking for his trails when I found the Silk Weed. I followed it and got lost so I went back to 32.6, 48.46. It took roughly 10-15 before I found him at 6:29PM Stormrage Realm time. I caught him in my flare and he was just making his way down town, walking with some serious attitude and sass. He walked out of my flare so I followed where he was going until the CD was refreshed. Flare, Ice Trap! I caught him, it wasn't like Portent where he would move out of your flare in the Ice Trap. He was perfectly sitting there. I tamed him, my heart was pounding after the excitement. I hoped he'd be a bit bigger seeing his actual size but I'm okay with the small one.
As I'm hearthstoning back to the inn he dies randomly, I shrug it off and just rez him at the inn.

Did that happen to anyone else? It happened with Gara too.

I was wandering around following his silkweed and eventually managed to work out that he had just turned around near the trees tossed a freezing trap down blind and bam it landed right on him, flared and tamed.

I just stayed on one place as those silkweeds were everywhere and I had no idea where Bombyx went...So I stayed and spammed Flare, took me 2 minutes to tame him. =)

If you're having trouble spotting or following the Heavily Chewed Silkweed plants... turn your Ground Clutter setting (under Graphics) down to nothing. Makes the ground smooth as a greased pig and I found it much easier (but still took some squinting!) to spot the little plants.

Surprisingly quick find/tame. Took a second to find the silkweed but there was a dense trail of it on a small "island" in the river at 30.32, 42.69 but I wasn't having any luck spotting Bombyx with a flare at either end where there wasn't any silkweed yet. I finally dropped a flare on the silkweed itself at one end and he waddled into view. Bam, tame. Happy Hunting!
