There is a frame at the very end of the video, that had some text on it. That text was:
Interesting. When I'm a bit more awake I'll look at this.
Wonder if blizz have plans to take this system outside games on the desktop or if it's gonna stay inside?( not like i care so much about that, just fun to know :D )
He makes good points in this :)Personally I'm just using realid for people I know in the real world.
I only have one girl as a real ID friend now. Our experiences with it so far have been very nice. The name thing, i dont know. Everyone who is my facebook friend knows my full real name. Everyone who works with me knows my full real name. When i create something official and post it on the net, i have to sign it with my full real name. Whats the fuss about someone knowing my real name? Sure it could be a problem in certain rare scenarios, like when Lore or Justin Timberlake would play WoW, they will now start to get a lot of requests because they are famous... but for a normal guy like me, well, i think the feature is okay.Something that really surprised me about the RealID... if you think about it, it is natural that it works that way, cause it would be weird if it didnt, but just the thought seems kinda blasphemous for me... you can actually chat ingame with someone who is in the opposing faction. Its a fully Alliance/Horde independent chat. I am on a PvP realm, so i see it as quite a thing. Sure its only a 1:1 chat, but still... it has a lot of possibilities.
This post was from a user who has deleted their account.
I'd really like to see an app that can be downloaded outside of the game that lets you log in and talk to everyone on wow without actually needing to have the game installed. Would be great for when I'm at friends' houses who don't play. This real-id would work perfect with that.
The ones who don't like the Real-ID system are the really really old fat males who are playing as hot blood/night elves and have a online boyfriend. Will the boiyfriend still love them after they find out their real name is Bruce King?
My real objection is that Blizzard clearly states that this is for forming new friendships, but then says it's only for people you're already friends with. I can deal with the service being crippled by the facebook deal or whatever; I'm much less happy about them lying about it.As to "real" names:There is a widespread myth that there is a single set of words which is your "legal name" and that this set of words has magical powers. It is not so. I have two birth certificates in different names. I almost never do anything using the name that's on my passport and state ID; I do everything under a slightly different name that's easier to spell, and which I have an easier time getting automated systems to accept. That's fine. It's not illegal to do things under a name other than the one on your government ID, as long as you're not doing so to defraud people. But neither of those names is, IMHO, my "real" name. My real name is seebs. That's what everyone calls me. Real ID won't let me show up to my friends by the name they know me by. That's stupid.
If you don't want people to know your real name, why would you want to give them your email address? The people that are complaining about their name being given out to people that they are giving their EMAIL ADDRESS to; then they need to be slapped upside the head many many many many times.
