Would've been cool to have fought Sylvanas's loyalists instead of Scarlet Crusaders. Aw well what a shame.
Horrible finish to a epic storyline. I agree, that Sylvanas's loyalists would have made 100% more sense. They are keying Scarlet Crusade up as a major villain in the future expansions /sigh
Reading this post takes longer than the complete take over plot ingame
I enjoyed it. I think my only harp on it would be how using the helper ability with Lilian was probably more necessary than it should've been when you're told 'if you need it' and, you don't -explicitly- need it but the elites have such chunky health bars even in decent gear, you really want to use the ability and while I get the whole 'forsaken/worgen' working together flavor, it felt more like a crutch than it should've been.
I've been waiting for this since BFA when the Scarlets started talking about Genn Greymane as a monstrocity abomination towards the Light and how Anduin is secretly having a love affair with Sylvanas, etc.I wondered why they would randomly have that in the game then do nothing with it.
Ah, another Alliance-run vacation destination for this old warcriminal!Bel'ameth was nice I suppose, but constantly being glared at made my barbeque party really difficult. It was also very drafty, but I suppose it was just a recently built construction, so maybe in time they can build some actual homes I can rent and/or squat in. Its been about 5 calamities or so since I've visited Gilneas, though that huge wave totally ruined my relaxation / oppression dynamic I was going for when I first visited. I had to doggy-paddle to Hillsbrad, past that godawful Purgation Isle (0 Stars, do not recommend) to get back to civilization. All in all, I look forward to making a nuisance of myself while this peace lasts, I invite others on the Red Team to do the same whilst the getting is indeed good. Shame these nothing similar to bonfire jokes in Bel'ameth to rile up some ire. I would go camping in a certain graveyard but that spots just not very comfortable, and the joke is so obvious it kills the joke entirely.7.5/10 stars, would recommend. Dog-friendly.
You look at the cool art people have made for the worgen and then the dumb heritage armor they have given worgen twice now ( I think this new one is even more horribly ugly) and I just am sad for a missed opportunity to get cool, gritty, vampire slayer like armor instead of weird fancy aristocrat clothes.
Once more nothing for the Horde.
So Tess found her one beautiful thing that day and put it on her brothers grave. Then we stole it. I feel kinda guilty about that.
Also 3 NPCs in Hayward Fishery (Hayward family, 2 dead).
i knew it was going to be the scarlets crusade as soon as it was announced gilneas was being taken it made complete sense they were using gilneas why? lets look at the previous time we saw the scarlett crusade which was in the forsaken heritage story you saw an army of scarlet's attacking lorderon and if i am not mistaken it was mentioned at where this army could of come from no one saw them marching thru hilsbrad foothills etc so where could they launch this attack from... well... how about an abandoned city that was seemingly empty and thanks to the worgan/forsaken hatred for each other the undead might not even be in gilneas to see the build up... privacy is key for the scarlets to comeback from northrend and begin there build up while everyone is distracted by the 4th war etc.... those saying sylvanas loyalists would of been the better choice... no just no.... whats the end game there? lets say it was sylvanas loyalist with her stuck in the maw there is no way she is coming back just yet plus people are bored of her lets leave her in the maw.... now that being said i could see her coming back in midnight as i suspect we will see some windrunner sisters lore or if not then maybe the last titan when we are back in northrend now all that being said... the actual taking back of gilneas WAS BAD so so bad even as a horde player i was like WTF thats it?it could of been so much better then it was we could of had quests to build up our forces in silverpine forest to push thru the wall fighting the scarletts front line down to the docks to give the alliance a beachhead to allow them to sail in we could of had a siege of gilneas city with world quests or dailys to gather supplies or capture outside city areas eventually ending with what we got instead it just seemed rushed to give the worgan/alliance player base a city back and a easy community W but because of how rushed it was it was a major meh... i could understand if there was other things to do if there was a raid or other content but we are in the dryspell between xpacs it could of been something for us to do over time...
It makes no sense for Sylvanas loyalists to be the enemy here because most if not all forsaken are citizens of Lordaeron and it is very possible there was bad blood between the nations once Gilneas walled out the world. SO when Sylvanas decided to push into Gilneas, I'm sure they were all for it. Not some "small group" but most. THAT being said before bfa, the forsaken didn't follow the banshee queen blindly and Sylvanas' role was more of that of a steward. Yes Forsaken pledged their loyalty to her and despite her title of banshee "queen" she was not recognized as such. Everyone forgets Sylvanas was the freaking general of the High Elves and pushing into Gilneas was strategic and the story even made mention as such. Sylvanas "Loyalists" were pretty much everyone at that time and continue to be. Again the Forsaken viewed Sylvanas as a steward and protector. It is established that being raised into undeath does something to a person especially when raised by the plague. All of your fears and hatreds are magnified. All your worst traits get pushed forward while all your best get shoved to the back. The Forsaken had bigger fish to fry in their lives than to blindly follow and obey the words of an ELF let alone a dead one.It makes more sense that the Scarlet Crusade would move into an empty city and build up so that they may push back into Lordaeron. They do this thing all the time. I understand people really want to surf on this Sylvanas loyalist thing because of shadowlands and bfa, but those expansions really tore up the established lore up to that point. The Scarlet Crusade has always been around and they always take advantage of situations like this. They hate everyone who doesn't embrace the light or is horde and they are fanatical and driven by hate. That is why it was so easy for a dread lord to sneak in and totally run the show. By wotlk it was kind of a running joke that some where within the ranks of the Scarlets there is a dread lord. Hell that could have been the real twist here and at least been interesting. "And to utterly no one's surprise Fairbell transformed into a dread lord." If anything else it would have been hilarious.
I enjoyed the story, though it definitely was a bit short, and things were... a bit messy with so many players in it at once.Really hope this means Gilneas will be a full Alliance city in the next xpac.
They've been hinting at the Scarlet Crusade for years now. Ask Bellular, and search his YouTube for it. There's a video speculating who "the real heir" is and all that mess. The Scarlet Propaganda is there, and they have been fanatical since Classic. With the Forsaken Heritage quest starts kicking them out of the area, now this with Genn seems right imo.
This post was longer than the questchain to retake the city, that we still can't use as a hub
One item not mentioned here, within Greymane Manor, if you speak to and ask one of the NPC's to leave, then they will all leave.
I think they should have made it a bigger prepatch event for whenever they plan to use Gilneas. The tutorials to Azeroth Archives is longer and more nuanced than retaking Gilneas…
